With Kornflake away on special assignment, Kevin and the Mayor of Chickentown are free to obsess over The Krofft Supershow, a wild 1970s Saturday morning TV anthology series from Sid and Marty Krofft. Specifically we're looking at the career of musician and actress Debra Clinger, who played Superchick in The Krofft Supershow's house band, Kaptain Kool and the Kongs. Pre-Superchick, Debra and her sisters formed the Clingers, one of the very first all-girl rock bands! She was also in the Rock Flowers, a music group created to tie in with a line of Mattel fashion dolls! So it was quite a path to becoming a Kong, and along the way our conversation covers the Osmonds, the Smothers Brothers, Dick Clark, Casey Kasem, Hanna Barbera's Catanooga Cats, and much more. We also run through the Krofft Supershow first season segments: Wonderbug, Dr. Shrinker, Lost Saucer, and (our favorite) Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. And we look at the other members of Kaptain Kool and the Kongs too. (One member became a sitcom star, one was in Three Dog Night, and one performed at Woodstock!) And we're only halfway through this Superchick deep dive; part two is coming soon. So take a trip with us today, and we will lead you through a land of dreams. Weird Krofft dreams. Bubblegum songs tend to be short. And sweet. But can even Professor Bubblegum fit 40 songs into a single episode of Echo Valley? (SPOILER ALERT: yes, yes he can.) Plus a dramatic reading from a Partridge Family novel! Archie dances! Plenty of great gum from The Cattanooga Cats, Jack Wild, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, Songs from the Pogo, HR Puff'n' Stuf, Dr. Shrinker, Electrawoman & Dynagirl, Lost Saucer, Wonderbug, Far Out Space Nuts, The Bugaloos, Bigfoot and Wildboy, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Lidsville, John Kincade, The Tremeloes, Scott Stutzman, The Chicago Loop, Partridge Family, The Tokens & The Kirby Four, The Gants, Josie and the Pussycats, Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show, Christoper Knight, Colette, Brady Bunch, Cast of Return to Riverdale (1990), Kaptain Kool and the Kongs, The Muppets, The Pipkins, The Archies, Chan Clan, Saturday Morning Cartoon Show, Banana Splits, The Innocence, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, Bobby Sherman, Beach Boys and Society's Children!

After so many weeks of jocularity, your three favorite educated hillbillies wander into semi-serious topics as they discuss business owners rights, Gary Gnu, and family heirlooms with a a few detours along the way. We start this week's voyage off with Heavy trying to sing once more. If you like that sort of thing, then you are in luck. If you don't like it, wait it out because it thankfully only lasts a short while. Inspired by his own singing, he shares with us a tale of him trying to bond with one of his daughters over Michael Jackson music. That leads to some talk about seventies and eighties kids shows like the Lost Saucer and Wonderbug, which somehow leads to Gus claiming one of the actors in Wonderbug would go on to star as a non-porn role in the infamous New Wave Hookers 2. (check out his credits on IMDB!) Then Heavy tells how Mrs. Longmire tried to pronunciation shame him on the pronunciation of "GNU" but he defended the attack by citing the Gary Gnu show from The Great Space Coaster! Heavy also offers up some New Wave fun facts (the music, not the porno movie) and Gus and Heavy have stories of stupid stuff their kids have said lately. Gus then stears the ship into a serious discussion about separating the art from the artist and how society changes their views on a persons creations if that person may fall out of favor due to actions or new facts emerging about their character. Somehow that leads to a discussion about states rights, the rights of a business owner to refuse service and the legal and moral implications of private citizens excluding customers based on any number of criteria. Obviously, we needed J.J.'s legal opinion, so hopefully he will correct us via email. Speaking of email, Tellito sends in a thought provoking email about family heirlooms which leads the guys down memory lane and man is it dusty and dry. VHS Rewind! - Episode 60 - Wonderbug (1976)
VHS Rewind! Season 5 Episode 12 Wonderbug (1976) Made in the waning days of the Krofft empire, Wonderbug still stands out as a quite entertaining little diversion. With each episode running at around 10+ minutes, and functioning as basically a Human cartoon, Wonderbug is the story of thee teenagers in their late 20's who discover a magic horn that they attach to a rotted out old dune buggy, which, when honked, turns it into the magical, red, sometimes full size, sometimes plastic toy, sometimes hand puppet, Schlepcar! As stated before, the episodes are short, so they rarely outstay their welcome, despite the general silliness of the premise. So, join Mark and David as they get nostalgic about all things Krofft, and delve deep into the lost (as in Land of the) classic from the 70's, Wonderbug!
