If you grew up in the 70s, you likely spent your Saturday mornings getting your mind blown by the endless list of shows brought to you by Sid and Marty Krofft!H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, Sigmund & The Sea Monsters, Banana Splits, Lidsville, the Bugloos and SO many more!!! We first got to meet got to meet a listen to a real piece of television history, when Sid Krofft came to town for ComiCon....and this morning we got to catch up with him again and it was ANOTHER amazing conversation!!
Let's wrap up our review of The Krofft Supershow, a super-silly Saturday morning TV show from mad geniuses Sid and Marty Krofft. The second season brought us two weird new segments: Magic Mongo (in which a goofy genie crashes a bikini beach party) and Bigfoot and Wildboy (in which a Sasquatch and a kid with no pants battle aliens and Peter Brady). The show was still hosted by wacky rock band Kaptain Kool and the Kongs, and we also review their appearances on American Bandstand, Donny and Marie, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, and a Saturday Morning preview special with the Bay City Rollers. Of course our favorite Kaptain Kool and the Kongs member is Superchick, played by Debra Clinger, and we conclude our look at Debra's career beyond the Krofft world. Debra appeared on classic 70s/80s TV series like Barnaby Jones, The Hardy Boys, The Love Boat, and Hart to Hart. She starred in her own short-lived series The American Girls, alongside a future Three's Company star. She starred in the silly cult classic movie Midnight Madness, alongside a very young Michael J. Fox. And she even worked on a couple of our beloved Rankin/Bass Christmas specials. Also: 70s Hollywood power couple Lee and Farrah! Yogi Bear in space! Teen runaways and women in prison! The secret of the Dorse! A love connection on the set of Airwolf! Superchick meets the Snow Miser! Superchick meets Colonel Sanders! Krofft Supershow comic books! And the upcoming Super Megafest convention in Massachusetts, with some very special Krofft guests. So join us for more fun Krofft talk here on the Flopcast, where anything goes down, where most of what appears isn't true. The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! The Flopcast on Facebook! Jovial Jay revisited the 1981 Ray Harryhausen classic Clash of the Titans. It was a groundbreaking movie in a lot of ways and a fun watch today. Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay looks back at the 2000 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger called The 6th Day. Arnold is faced with a clone of himself and all the discomfort that would present. Though it was very en Vogue to feature our nearest planetary neighbor back then, this one may not have entirely hit the mark. The story is a little spoon-fed, but entertaining nonetheless. Check out his article to see why. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including the Loki series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Hawkeye series and more. Enjoy Toys! It's the time of year when the National Toy Museum picks their Hall of Fame finalists. Once again, some iconic toys have made it into the mix. They even picked one from the Forgotten Five; a group of toys that never seem to quite make it. But here at Enjoy Stuff we believe there are some toys that are no longer around, but also deserve their moment in the spotlight. So we have set up a Discontinued Toy Hall of Fame in our town of EnjoyStufftopia. JovialJay and Shua pick some of their favorite toys from their youth that they would love to see on display. http://www.UnderThePuppet.com - Sid Krofft is the grandfather of puppetry. He picked up his puppet at a young age and was soon a sensation booking shows across the United States and then around the world. He would go on to create shows such as H.R. Pufnstuff, Land of the Lost and Sigmund & The Sea Monsters to name a few, but his love of puppetry was always at the heart of all he did. I chatted with Sid Krofft about his career in this special episode of Under The Puppet produced for the National Puppetry Festival in conjunction with the Puppeteers of America. Stock up on those rations and race to that bomb shelter, because it's Global Thermonuclear War! Or is it? Jay and Shua look back on 40 years of the classic movie WarGames with Matthew Broderick. WarGames not only kept us on the edge of our seat wondering if WW3 was about to start, but it also helped to shape policies and events in our nation's government. Come with us as we revisit a dramatic 80s cold war movie. But this one has a twist. They begin to realize it. Audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton. Jay finally returned to Pandora and watched the visually rich Avatar: The Way of Water. He agreed that it was a sight to behold. Enjoy Movies! 1983 was a scary time in our country. We seemed to constantly be on pins and needles wondering if the Soviets were going to start an all-out nuclear war. But it was an exciting time too. The personal computer was making its way into our homes and giving us access to the outside world. That is a brilliant recipe for a dramatic movie. Wargames became that movie, where a young computer hacker named David Lightman, played by a very young Matthew Broderick, who only had two acting credits to his name before this movie, unknowingly breaks into the military's computer system and nearly starts World War 3. It was very well executed and made us question the possibilities of the future. It even made President Reagan a little nervous. After watching it, he requested an investigation to research the dangers of hacking and how we could take precautions against it. And of course, it give Wade Watts an interesting challenge to accomplish in the Ready Player One novel by Earnest Cline. Have you experienced WarGames? Did you like experimenting with computers? Who, exactly, are you going to Paris with? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Greetings Professor Falken” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. For this very special episode five people have gathered to discuss an influential part of their childhood – H. R. Pufnstuf! In particular we examine the movie that grew out of the children television show's immense popularity – PUFNSTUF (1970). So, grab your magic flute and come to Living Island for an adventure you'll never forget – no matter how hard you try. Wild, man! I am joined by Beth, Troy Guinn, John Hudson and Steph to talk about the biggest hit of Sid & Marty Krofft's many Saturday morning TV programs. Each of us relate our history with the various shows and what we thought of them as kids before diving into the specifics of the big screen version. We dig into the Krofft brothers' background as puppet performers, their early successes on the stage and the genesis of Pufnstuf as a character. We take note of a fun Universal Horror related song from their early 1960's adult puppet show and then turn things toward the amazing songs created for the film. We talk about the cast with Jack Wild's place in the hearts of young girls becoming a subject of some amusement while Billie Hayes' immortal Witchiepoo is lauded as the best reason to watch either the film or the television show. Favorite lines of dialog are quoted and we wonder aloud if some of the best bits were adlibbed by Miss Hayes or not. We also talk about Mama Cass Elliot's excellent performance as Witch Hazel and single out her song as a highlight. This really is a delightful movie! If you want to share your own memories of the old Sid & Marty Krofft shows thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. We hope you enjoy this slightly chaotic trip into Saturday mornings past. Thank you for listening!

Adam is joined once again by writer and comedian Dana Gould who shares stories of his father only bringing shorts to wear for his recent wedding and assuming he was gay for not wanting to go hunting. They take a look at Huell Howser's only music video and revisit the murder of Bob Crane from ‘Hogan's Heroes'. Sid Krofft returns to the studio and reunites with Dana- whom he worked with on the scrapped adaptation of ‘Sigmund and the Sea Monsters'. Sid Krofft and Adam Carolla finally sit down to talk about the elephant in the room, namely Adam's constant criticism. They get into how much of Sid's work impacted Adam‘s childhood and talk about ‘Pryor's Place', ‘Pink Lady and Jeff', ‘Donnie and Marie', and more. Sid tells stories about touring with Judy Garland and Liberace, designing costumes for ‘The Banana Splits Adventure Hour', seeing Frank Sinatra knocked out by a bullfighter in a bar fight, and the Beatles demanding episodes of ‘H.R. H.R. Pufinstuf. We grew up just accepting that it was a show. But honestly, why was it a show!? A British song and dance boy with a flute shipwrecks on an island full of puppets!? Why not? Expect music, color, magic and plenty of puppets in the world of Sid and Marty Krofft! The iconic Marty Krofft joins us for an inside peek into that world. Let's wrap up our look at the Saturday morning TV landscape of 1971! ABC's lineup was probably the strongest of the three networks, but it's still quite weird. There were classics like Road Runner and Jonny Quest, alongside oddities like Filmation's Jerry Lewis cartoon, the Rankin/Bass animated version of the Jackson 5, and more psychedelic Krofft craziness with the living hats of Lidsville. Hanna Barbera recycled its Scooby Doo "traveling teen" format with Funky Phantom, starring a ghost who sounded just like Snagglepuss. We're very curious about Curiosity Shop, of which little video evidence survives. But all we really need are live action secret agent apes... and we'll always have Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp. Among familiar old favorites like Woody Woodpecker, Pink Panther, and Deputy Dawg, we encounter psychedelic Krofft reruns, a two-headed llama, a comeback from Mr. Wizard, an odd live action import from Australia, and not one but TWO rock bands of hippie insects. Pour yourself a giant bowl of Lucky Charms and join us. If you were a 70s/80s kid who wanted to know what was really going on, you ordered Dynamite magazine through your school book club. Today we're flipping through the December 1979 issue of Dynamite, with Steve Martin on the cover. And hey, Steve's first (and come on, best) movie The Jerk premiered that same month! Which 70s celebrity did Steve enjoy playing horseshoes with? The answer will shock you. Also in this issue of Dynamite: world record grape-catching; disgusting popcorn beverages; Hollywood gossip about Superman, Miss Piggy, Kiss, and Erik Estrada; disco vs. rock; how to levitate with Magic Wanda; an especially lame batch of Dynamite Bummers; and lots more late 70s silliness. Also: The ESO Network's Doctor Geek has a new vaccination PSA, Kevin AND Kornflake are talking science fiction dogs with the American Sci-Fi Classics Track, rare video from the Sid and Marty Krofft theme park has resurfaced, Baby Yoda is a Chia Pet, and Happy Birthday to Paul Bettany (aka Vision in a turkey suit). VHS Rewind! Season 5 Episode 12 Wonderbug (1976) Made in the waning days of the Krofft empire, Wonderbug still stands out as a quite entertaining little diversion. With each episode running at around 10+ minutes, and functioning as basically a Human cartoon, Wonderbug is the story of thee teenagers in their late 20's who discover a magic horn that they attach to a rotted out old dune buggy, which, when honked, turns it into the magical, red, sometimes full size, sometimes plastic toy, sometimes hand puppet, Schlepcar! As stated before, the episodes are short, so they rarely outstay their welcome, despite the general silliness of the premise. So, join Mark and David as they get nostalgic about all things Krofft, and delve deep into the lost (as in Land of the) classic from the 70's, Wonderbug!

This week the boys are back in full force with a tale of a guy that believes that Lizard Men are ruling the earth. But first, we follow up our UFO talk with a tale of an unidentified flying object from our West Texas brother Tellito of something he saw flying through the sky one cold evening long ago. Find out why what Tellito saw that night scares Gustav to this very day. Ty and Heavy take a minute to thank the Fake Bailey Jay for guest hosting a few weeks back. Maybe someday we will bring Fake Bailey Jay live in our garage studio. Heavy brings up one of the folks he runs into in his professional life that has warned him about the second sun which may be hurtling towards Earth as we speak. The same man has been warning Heavy that a reptilian race of lizard men are ruling human kind. But the boys love conspiracy talk so they are up for the conversation. Travis sent in a very unfortunate story he heard about a couple in Arkansas, a white couch and the unluckiest dog around. The boys are shocked and amused at the same time. Gustav touches briefly on the weirdness of Sid and Marty Krofft and their insane children's shows which the crew grew up watching. Mr. Show did a great satire of the Krofft products years ago. Take a couple of minutes to watch the clip: Then Gustav fondly remembers his aunt's second husband who was the definition of a kick ass seventies dude. Whether it was driving a Trans-Am way too fast, accidental discharges of a .375 H&H rifle or permanently scaring Gustav from using his Hippity Hop, this Uncle was the balls. They don't make them like that anymore. So give us a listen and send us your emails at canyouhearmepod.com The post Lizard Men, a White Couch and a Kick Ass Uncle appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.
We kick off the holidays with an extra-weird show, because Kornflake was too busy to join us in the studio! But worry not -- the Mayor of Chickentown stepped in as emergency guest co-host, and we figured out how to get Kornflake on the show anyway! (Sort of.) This week: Kevin and the Mayor discuss the recent TV Guidance Counselor live show with Emmanuel Lewis (now available in convenient podcast format!), we recall the DragonCon panel in which Kevin and a bunch of other nerds talked about all the goofy Marvel Comics TV and movie projects of the 70s and 80s (also now available as a podcast!), and we present a very timely Top 4 1/2 List of our favorite turkeys! That's right -- turkeys. Angry turkeys, cartoon turkeys, hand turkeys, and maybe even a jive turkey or two. So join us for some stupid turkey talk, while we send up the Lobster Signal and try to find Kornflake.
Break out your lousy miniature Almond Joy bars -- it's Halloween in Chickentown again! But this year, instead of discussing more traditional Halloween monsters (like Count Chocula), we're talking about Bigfoot! These days Kornflake is a huge fan of Bigfoot from the Perhapanauts comic book series. Meanwhile Kevin recalls Bigfoot's glory days of the mid-70s, when he was hanging around with Isis, the Six Million Dollar Man, and Wildboy. And of course, some folks believe that Bigfoot is stomping around somewhere out there in the real world! But while that would completely rule, as skeptics we must note that there is an equal amount of evidence that "The Cat From Outer Space" is real too.
The A Wiggly Worlds of things to come. Some more quotes from Epicurus. Guess my favorite TV show. Krofft has a hit on their hands in Pryor s Place and Pink Lady, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd, Bigfoot and Wildboy. The Big Bang of Whoopi. Check out the E Network s Merch and much more. Opens with DEVO - Wiggly World, closes with a Wiggly original composed for one of those Mystery Cults.
