Maya Jade Frank joins the podcast to share the fascinating journey of a career that began with a serendipitous audition for her sister's project and led her to the Broadway stages of Evita and Mary Poppins. She opens up about the unique experience of growing up on the road with the 25th Anniversary National Tour of Les Misérables, where she balanced three hours of daily schooling with visits to historical monuments and backstage "Docu-drama" marathons. Maya discusses the transition from being a child actor in New York to a Disney Channel star in Los Angeles, reflecting on how her supportive, non-theatre parents helped her stay grounded while she pursued a "normal" college experience at USC. The conversation dives deep into Maya's impressive ability to merge her creative passions with a sharp business mind. Beyond her current starring role as Zoe Murphy in the South Florida premiere of Dear Evan Hansen, she reveals the inner workings of her digital media company, Mangoes and Bubblegum, and her work as a global Pilates instructor. From her "morning jump around" ritual to early 2000s pop punk to her dreams of performing Shakespeare at the Globe, Maya exemplifies a modern multi-hyphenate artist who prioritizes physical health and analytical data just as much as her vocal warm-ups. Maya Jade Frank is a New York City native whose extensive credits include the Broadway revival of Evita, the final Broadway cast of Mary Poppins, and the 25th Anniversary National Tour of Les Misérables. She received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her work on Nickelodeon's History and Heritage and appeared on Disney Channel's Bizaardvark. A graduate of the University of Southern California and the Royal Academy of Music in London, her recent stage work includes Next to Normal and the UK revival of Be More Chill. She is currently appearing in Dear Evan Hansen at the Actors' Playhouse in Coral Gables. The tenth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan resamples a single varietal from Asturias, Collaos, from Treasury Cider. Treasury Cider Collaos STYLE: Cider – Asturias Dry (single varietal)INGREDIENTS: Collaos applesABV: 7.4%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottles (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Medium yellow in hue and clear, with very small, tight-bubbled carbonation. Aroma A distinct acid note that hits first, with some woody/oaky notes along with some earthy and fresh herb nuances. Taste Starts off with the tartness before transitioning to an oak tannin note, with the expressive fruit coming together with the earthy elements and hint of funk. Mouthfeel Fairly dry, with the a medium body and slight carbonation. Overall I love cider from Asturias, and would have loved to enjoy this from a porrón. Pairing-wise, I want rustic dishes or tapas, with fresh spices/herbs a plenty. Cheers and remember: Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry. The ninth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan has another Kingston Black from Eve’s Cidery’s North Orchard. Eve’s Cidery North Orchard Kingston Black STYLE: Cider – Dry (single varietal)INGREDIENTS: Kingston Black apples from their North OrchardABV: 8.0%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottles (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Gorgeous, medium yellow/gold and very effervescent with small-bubble carbonation. Aroma Sweet and floral notes hit first with a hint of salinity and burst of fruit, which is similar but a little different from the previous Kingston Black ciders I’ve tasted. Taste Like other Kingston Black single varietals, there is some tartness mixed with earthy and herbal notes and a bready quality underlaying the sweet fruit on the mid-palate. Mouthfeel Pretty dry but delicate, with the small-bubble carbonation and a light-to medium body and mouthfeel. Overall I really love getting to taste different single varietals made of the same apple, as it really digs into the terroir where each one was grown as well as the cidermaker’s approach. Soft cheeses, salads, flatbreads would all be great, though it’s probably also so on its own. Cheers and remember: Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry. In this week's Grow Guides, episode 78, we continue our journey through the most iconic strains of all time, focusing on the genetics that helped shape modern growing, breeding, and cannabis culture. This time we're diving into legendary names like Girl Scout Cookies, Granddaddy Purple, Jack Herer, and Amnesia Haze, along with heavy hitters such as Trainwreck, Pineapple Express, Cinderella 99, and Bubblegum. We also cover classics including Super Silver Haze, Purple Haze, Cheese, and the timeless Acapulco Gold. We talk about where these strains came from, what made them stand out, and why their influence is still seen in today's hybrids. From flavour and effects to stability and breeding impact, this episode is all about understanding why these cultivars earned their legendary status. Whether you've grown them, smoked them, or just heard the names for years, this episode gives proper context to some of the most important genetics ever created, and why their legacy still matters today.
The eighth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan cracks another single varietal, Treasury Cider Brown Snout. Treasury Cider Brown Snout STYLE: Cider – Dry (single varietal)INGREDIENTS: Brown Snout applesABV: 8.3%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottles (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Effervescent with cascading, tiny bubbles, golden in color, with a fluffy, white head. Aroma Herbal notes lead followed by some earthiness, grassiness, and tart impression. Taste Earthy and herbal notes continue with some residual sweetness and tannin structure. Mouthfeel Lighter in body, super dry, with the carbonation adding a lovely “scrubbing bubbles” element. Overall If you are into rustic, English cider, this is definitely one for you. Pairing-wise, lighter cheeses a la aged goat cheeses to lighter cheddars hit me first, though some lighter meats and flatbreads would sing as well. You should open this up in the early afternoon on a weekend for sure. Cheers and remember: Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry. The Woodland morning crew ushered in Friday, February 6th, with a spirited debate over whether the weekend truly begins on Friday morning or evening. To celebrate National Bubblegum Day, the hosts took a trip down memory lane, recalling the "bane of all teachers' existence": students packing their lips with Big League Chew and the dreaded detention task of scraping old gum from under 1980s desks with spackle knives.Tomlin's news desk provided a surreal shift, reporting the closure of the iconic Cape Cod potato chip factory and the discovery of a supermassive black hole nicknamed "Jetty McJetface," which reportedly packs a trillion times the energy of the fictional Death Star. The excitement peaked during sports as the panel debated the upcoming Super Bowl. Decker offered a statistical warning against New England, noting that no quarterback with the initials "DM" or a last name shorter than five letters has ever hoisted the trophy. Between celebrating basketball wins and discussing Olympic curling, the team bid Woodland a "fine" morning, promising plenty of reasons to stay inside for the weekend's festivities

The seventh of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan dips into Grisamore Cider Works Kingston Black single varietal. Grisamore Cider Works Kingston Black STYLE: Cider – Traditional DryINGREDIENTS: Golden Russet, Roxbury Russet, Baldwin, and Jonagold apples ABV: 7.0%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottles (Limited – Batch 2022)Stats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Gold in color and brilliantly clear, with minimal carbonation. Aroma A full expression of juice and flesh from the varietal and some earthy notes. Taste Great balance of dryness and sweetness and an excellent representation of the fruit and slight tartness on the finish. Mouthfeel Moderately dry, with very little carbonation and a medium body. Overall If you are unsure of where you are on the sweet-to-dry spectrum and want to start to dip your toes into single varietal cider, this is a great one to try. Pairing-wise, this would be a great table cider for most meals as long as you’re not going to spicy or powerful in flavors, but it’s great sharing by itself as well. Send us a textHello and welcome to our show. In this episode of Just Talkin Outloud, we crack open a bottle of Mr. Bubble Bubblegum Soda and put it through our official (and very serious) taste-test process.First up: the pour. We ranked the color—because let's be honest, if a soda looks like cough syrup, we're already nervous. Then came the smell test, where childhood nostalgia battled head-on with a very real “does this smell like medicine?” moment. Finally, the big question: does it actually taste like bubblegum? We break down whether this soda delivers on its promise or if it's just carbonated disappointment. Expect honest reactions, laughs, and the kind of debate only a husband-and-wife podcast can deliver—because bubblegum soda is way more controversial than it sounds. Thanks fot listening don't forget to leave us a message or a voice mail on Speakpipe. The sixth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan revisits Little Apple Cidery Taconic Gold Dry. Little Apple Cidery Taconic Gold Dry STYLE: Cider – DryINGREDIENTS: Golden Russet, Roxbury Russet, Baldwin, and Jonagold apples ABV: 7.9%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottlesStats above taken from the brewery’s bottle and website. Appearance Brilliant, yellow-gold, clear, with small-bubble carbonation. Aroma Reminiscent of Golden Delicious apple flesh with a nice earthiness and hint of sweetness. Taste A touch of acidity hit the mid-palate, with a bright apple juice/flesh flavor. Mouthfeel Bone dry, with that moderate carbonation and a medium body. Overall This was another really solid one. If you have a Sauvignon Blanc drinker in your life, this would be a fun one for them to sample. You can go the dessert route with compote or cheeses on a pairing perspective, but also was feeling a buffalo mozzarella or goat cheese salad/sandwich. The fifth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan enjoys South Hill Ciders’ Porters Russet, a blend of two unique varietals. South Hill Cider Porters Russet STYLE: Cider – Traditional Dry SparklingINGREDIENTS: 50/50 blend of Porters Perfection and Golden Russet apples ABV: 8.8%RS: 0.0%AVAILABILITY: 750ml bottlesStats above taken from the brewery’s bottle and website. Appearance Medium gold in color with tight, Champagne-like bubbles. Aroma Breadiness with a blend of apple fruit, earthy, and herbal notes. Taste Gentle acidity and nice tannic structure, with those earthy notes coupled with both apple juice and flesh. Mouthfeel Tight carbonation coupled with the dry nature lead to a medium body. Overall A truly well-crafted and elegant blended varietal cider. Their pairings on the bottle sounded pretty spot on, as cheddar was one of the first things that hit my mind other than rustic poultry preparations. The fourth of many from the New York State Cider Festival haul, Dan samples Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider Northern Spy single varietal. Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider Northern Spy STYLE: Cider – Traditional (single varietal)ABV: 6.5%AVAILABILITY: 12 oz bottlesStats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Brilliant, clear, and golden, with some small bubble carbonation. Aroma Brush and tree bark/leaves in front of a rustic apple quality. Taste A bit of fruity apple juice sweetness, but finishes very dry with some earthy and sharp notes on the mid-palate. Mouthfeel Medium body with minimal carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Overall I love Northern Spy-based ciders as well as getting to try single varietal ones in general. This is a treat on its own, but you can have this with a variety of lunch options (nothing too spicy), but I was feeling a grilled chicken sandwich with portobello mushrooms and roasted peppers. The third of many from the haul from the New York State Cider Festival, Dan revisits Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider Traditional Dry. Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider Traditional Dry STYLE: Cider – TraditionalABV: 7.0%AVAILABILITY: 750 ml and 12 oz bottlesStats above taken from the brewery’s bottle. Appearance Burnt orange/cider-like in a color with a huge, white, fluffy head. Aroma Blend of tart and sweet cider apples with a touch of “farmhouse” note. Taste A pleasant blend of those tart and sweet apple notes with a hint of sharpness to round out the flavor. Mouthfeel Soft carbonation with a light/medium body. Overall I really enjoyed this last year when I first tried it and was glad to be able to snag a bottle this year care of the extra VIP hour of tasting. Shoutout to their cidermaker Elizabeth Ryan, who is such a key figure in agriculture and cider here in New York and beyond. This is a great sipping cider, but would pair lovely with poultry/fowl-based meals especially for festive occasions. Cheers and remember: Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry. In this episode, the trio dives deeper into the iconic Sunscreen lyrics, exploring how our perspectives on worry, fear, and growth evolve with age. Lee reflects on how life has a way of blindsiding us when we least expect it, while Jose shares a personal transformation from chronic worrier to someone who embraces the unknown. Ryan brings a fresh perspective on turning 30 and facing the mortality of invincibility, sparking a heartfelt discussion on the mental battles we all face as we grow older. With themes of self-awareness, personal growth, and the power of doing one thing each day that scares you, this episode blends humor, honesty, and wisdom. Whether it's cleaning cat litter or confronting big life decisions, the hosts remind us that the real race is only with ourselves.
The second of many from the haul from the New York State Cider Festival, Dan resamples Orchard Hill Cider Mill Heirloom Bold Complex. Orchard Hill Cider Mill Heirloom Bold Complex STYLE: Cider – DryINGREDIENTS: NY State Heirloom Apple varietiesABV: 7.0%AVAILABILITY: 16 oz. cans/Draft (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s can and website. Appearance Straw yellow/light gold in color, slightly hazy, and with a bit of large-bubble carbonation. Aroma Freshly pressed cider apple flesh and a delicate sweetness behind it. Taste Fresh cider apple all the way with a faint sweetness near the finish. Mouthfeel Bone dry, with a light body and soft carbonation. Overall Dry ciders are generally more in my flavor presence, so this one feels right at home. The fact that this has zero added sugar is nice, especially for those that are watching the sugar/carb intake. Lighter fare like flatbreads or chicken dishes is what I was feeling, though it could be fun as a lead off for brunch with apple cinnamon pancakes or other complementary dishes. The first of many from the haul from the New York State Cider Festival, Dan retastes Orchard Hill Cider Mill Rosé Pink Bubbles. Orchard Hill Cider Mill Rosé Pink Bubbles STYLE: Cider – RoséABV: 7.25%AVAILABILITY: 16 oz. cans/Draft (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s can and website. Appearance Gorgeous, dark pink hue similar to cranberry ginger ale, with a little carbonation. Aroma Blend of fresh apple and Rosé sparkling wine akin to Crémant de Bourgogne, with some residual earthy/funky notes and a hint of tartness. Taste Fruity and sweet, but not too much so, with a nice funky/slight tart note on the finish. Mouthfeel Light body with smooth mouthfeel and slight, gentle carbonation. Overall This is is mostly a sipping cider for me, but I feel it is super approachable, especially for Rosé drinkers. Pairing-wise, cream- or fruit-based desserts are an obvious play, because of the sweetness level. That being said, I would love to see a fresh salad featuring goat or a lighter cheese, apples, nuts, and raspberry vinaigrette of sorts as well. Taste Nostalgic amber feel with caramel and a hint of cherry and some residual hop notes on the finish. Mouthfeel Light to medium body with soft/foamy carbonation. Overall This is a session ale, in my opinion, and I would have no issues throwing these back at a bar or wherever I am at. I was feeling lighter barbecued meats and pizza, but nothing too over the top so you can enjoy all the nuances of the brew in hand. Cheers and remember: Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry. Dan enjoys his last Indian Ladder Farms Cidery and Brewery Cider Donut cider while recapping his experience at the NY Cider Festival. Indian Ladder Farms Cidery and Brewery Cider Donut STYLE: Cider – Herbed / Spiced / HoppedINGREDIENTS: Cinnamon, vanillaABV: 6.1%IBU: N/AAVAILABILITY: 16 oz. cans/Draft (Limited)Stats above taken from the brewery’s can and website. Appearance Straw yellow and a touch hazy with a small, white head and some lacing on the glass. Aroma Fresh apples, cinnamon, and vanilla, with a hint at acidity behind it. Taste Liquid cider donut with a hint of tart on the finish, but not too cloyingly sweet. Mouthfeel Off dry with a lighter mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Overall I know you all love cider donuts, so this is a hedonistic cider for sure. This is a great cider to have on its own, either as a snack or after a meal. I wonder if this could be gently warmed? Pairing-wise, I would go with apple-based desserts and/or some ice cream or custard equivalents. I had such a blast at the festival…I HIGHLY recommend it. Label: Verve 10245Year: 1962Condition: M-Price: $42.00Here's a particularly beautiful copy of one of my favorite Doo Wop rarities from the early 1960's... the flip is great, too. By the way, this group made no albums, so this was a 45-only, non-album single. Note: This 45 record has Mint labels and very nearly Mint vinyl and audio. Check out the mp3 "snippet"!
Label: Philles 121Year: 1964Condition: MLast Price: $45.00. Not currently available for sale. From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. One listen to this seldom-heard Ronettes tune will make clear why it ranks so highly in Dave Marsh's list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made. Pure girl group bliss! Note: These crisp copies look like they just came off the shelf in 1964! Even the audio is as close to pristine as a Philles record pressing can get.
Label: Tribe 8308Year: 1965Condition: M-Price: $20.00Here's a beautiful copy of the single that Dave Marsh ranks at #491 in his list of the 1,001 greatest 45s of Rock'n' Soul. And don't neglect the terrific B side... also essential Sir Douglas Quintet! By the way, this was a non-album single until Tribe released a "Greatest Hits" LP in 1966. Fortunately, that LP contains both of these great tracks. Note: This 45 record has very nearly Mint labels. The vinyl and audio grade close to Mint as well.
If your students stare blankly at rubrics or ignore them altogether, this episode is for you. In this episode of Two Middle School ELA Teachers, Shannon shares a fun, low-stakes, and unforgettable way to introduce students to what a rubric really is—by blowing bubbles. You'll hear how she uses a bubble-blowing challenge to teach the two essential parts of a rubric (criteria and levels) and how that experience gives students the confidence to understand and use the SC READY argumentative writing rubric. In this episode, you'll learn: How to set up the bubblegum rubric activity How to transition into the real writing rubric using student-friendly language How to run a fishbowl scoring activity that helps students internalize rubric expectations Why rubrics give students power—and how to make that message stick Grab our free bubble gum rubric here!
Label: Gordy 7069Year: 1968Condition: MPrice: $50.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in a rare original picture sleeve. Yes, I know this is on a Motown label, but it's still in the sweet Philly style :-) The flip, incidentally, is even better than the A side and is closer to the Motown sound (have a listen to the mp3 snippet in our "jukebox"). "Fading Away" was first recorded in 1966 by The Temptations and was pressed as the B side of their classic hit "Get Ready." Note: Aside from the drillhole, this beautiful 45 record is pristine Mint. The cool picture sleeve has a drillhole as well, but that's about it's only notable flaw. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Island 99963 djYear: 1982Condition: MLast Price: $12.50. Not currently available for sale. This is a new, unplayed promo copy, in its original Island Records factory sleeve. There were so many really, really great funk grooves laid down in the early 1980s! Where did they come from, and where have they gone? This one was from the amazing, rarely heard followup to Jones' hit "Pull Up To The Bumper," and really socks it to ya. It's another rare example of a woman basically telling her man to take a hike, and tough if he don't like it. :-) This promo has the "Short" edit of the 5:55 album track on one side (which is what appears on retail copies) and a somewhat longer "Long" edit unique to the promo on the other. Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). By the way, the audio is awesome... taking full advantage of the 45's ability to store so much more waveform information because of its faster spin and smaller diameter. (See our online book, "The Joy of 45 Collecting," for details.) The sound is very loud but crisp and clear as can be.
Label: Elektra 47006Year: 1980Condition: MLast Price: $10.00. Not currently available for sale. This was the first release of this classic... it spent 13 weeks on the chart in this incarnation and then another 10 weeks when it was re-released on Elektra 47052 with "The Beat Goes On" on the B side. Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: Mercury 74062 djYear: 1979Condition: M-Price: $10.00This terrific BTO single never saw the light of day on radio airwaves in 1979, unfortunately, but you can be sure it would have been a huge hit back in their mid-1970s heyday. This promo copy has the regular 4:06 album version on one side and a 3:55 "Edited Version" on the other... presumably cut to come just under that four-minute warning marker. This beautiful copy has pristine Mint sound.
You've heard us mention the good folks at Jackson's Wine & Spirits many times on our podcast. For this week's short, we taste and review a new RD1 Bourbon Pick called "Bubble Gum Delight" that recently hit the shelves at Jackson's. Clocking in at 6 years and 116.8 proof, this bourbon packs some flavor. However, we also experimented with this one a bit and the results were quite surprising. --------------------------SocialsIG: https://www.instagram.com/themashupkyFB: https://www.facebook.com/themashupkyYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@themashupkyJoin our community on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TheMashUpBourbonPodcastPartnership(s)Visit Bourbonoutfitter.com and enter code THEMASHUP for a special discount or visit bourbonoutfitter.com/THEMASHUPMusic: All the Fixings by Zachariah HickmanThank you so much for listening!

Season 3 of Sunday School Dropouts is here, and this time it's all about purity culture—its origins, its lasting impact, and the process of healing from it. After a summer break, the hosts return ready to unpack one of the most pervasive and misunderstood aspects of modern religion. This season features a range of guests, including therapists, coaches, and individuals from Catholic, Mormon, and evangelical backgrounds, as well as voices from the LGBTQ+ and wellness communities. Together, they explore how purity culture shapes identity, sexuality, and self-worth, and what it means to unlearn those lessons without losing one's faith entirely.Listeners are invited to be part of the conversation by sharing their stories or questions at sundayschooldropoutspod.com or via Instagram DMs—submissions can be anonymous and may even be featured in upcoming episodes. Through personal stories, the hosts and listeners reflect on purity rings, the “Virgin Lip Club,” and the lifelong effects of purity pledges. Therapists and guests discuss how purity culture can manifest as sexual pain, shame, or disconnection from one's own body, and what healing looks like through embodied awareness and reclaiming autonomy.Resources Mentioned:My Grandmother's Hands by Resmaa Menakem – Healing racialized trauma through the bodyDamaged Goods by Diana E.
