For 8 years, you've led where we've followed, and we've loved every minute—well, almost every minute! Before we kick off our final discussion of a Gilmore Girls pop culture reference, we take a look back at our favorite references and guests, as well as a few that surprised us and few we're happy we won't ever need to revisit. Then we dig into His Girl Friday, the classic screwball romantic comedy that served as an inspiration for our favorite series. How many versions of the story have been made? How did its dialogue inspire Amy Sherman-Palladino? And most importantly...can Kyla finally name all of the Beatles? More pop culture we ref: Broadcast News; Valley of the Dolls; Funny Girl; Grey Gardens; Gilligan's Island; That Girl; Xanadu; Swept Away; A Star Is Born; How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days; Bringing Up Baby; The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; Electra Woman and Dyna Girl; Pippi Longstocking; Gaslight

With Kornflake away on special assignment, Kevin and the Mayor of Chickentown are free to obsess over The Krofft Supershow, a wild 1970s Saturday morning TV anthology series from Sid and Marty Krofft. Specifically we're looking at the career of musician and actress Debra Clinger, who played Superchick in The Krofft Supershow's house band, Kaptain Kool and the Kongs. Pre-Superchick, Debra and her sisters formed the Clingers, one of the very first all-girl rock bands! She was also in the Rock Flowers, a music group created to tie in with a line of Mattel fashion dolls! So it was quite a path to becoming a Kong, and along the way our conversation covers the Osmonds, the Smothers Brothers, Dick Clark, Casey Kasem, Hanna Barbera's Catanooga Cats, and much more. We also run through the Krofft Supershow first season segments: Wonderbug, Dr. Shrinker, Lost Saucer, and (our favorite) Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. And we look at the other members of Kaptain Kool and the Kongs too. (One member became a sitcom star, one was in Three Dog Night, and one performed at Woodstock!) And we're only halfway through this Superchick deep dive; part two is coming soon. So take a trip with us today, and we will lead you through a land of dreams. Weird Krofft dreams. Last show of the year! So it's a quick one, as we look back on another goofy year of Flopcasting, including our 2022 Flopcast guests (all four of them), our strict cupcake and lobster roll diet program, and our ongoing obsession with Canadian PSAs. Plus: Happy Birthday to Ted Danson! Part 2 of our holiday podcast crossover with But First, Let's Talk Nerdy! (Warning: May contain Sponge Awareness music.) One last Electra Woman and Dyna Girl review on The Batcave Podcast! (Yes, it's the bizarre Markie Post pilot.) And A Very Pac-Man Christmas with the DragonCon American Sci-Fi Classics Track! (Also A Very Manimal Christmas and A Very Turbo Teen Christmas. Someone probably should have stopped us.) And finally... our New Year's Resolutions. Sort of. See you in 2023, nerds. 2001 PILOT NO AIRDATE In 2001, the Krofft Brothers attempted to bring back Electra Woman and Dyna Girl for a more modern audience with, what appears they thought were modern sensibilities. Electra Woman has fallen on hard times as she lives in a trailer park and Dyna Girl has run off with her husband. A young college student whose Electra Woman had saved as a child makes it a point to return the favor, but she may wind up regretting that decision. This time around, John and Kevin Eldridge of The Flopcast discuss the ever youthful Markie Post, the use of suggestive situations and language, and should this be looked upon as a sacrilege or as a possible contender for something worthwhile. Take a listen and let us know what you think by writing us here or at thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.
We're creeping into the holiday season with a concert report, because Boston rock heroes Letters to Cleo are back for their annual homecoming shows. This year they brought along super-cool Brooklyn-based band Thick to open the show, and Cleo frontwoman Kay Hanley is clearly a fan. Throw in a surprise Cleo horn section, and a festive time was had by all. We're also looking ahead at the goofiness of the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. This year's balloons include the Pillsbury Doughboy, Baby Yoda, and (thanks to recent exposure here on The Flopcast, we assume) Smokey Bear. There's also a giant acorn balloon, because why not. And if you've been secretly hoping for a bread-themed parade float, with hundreds of giant foam bread slices rising into the sky, this is your year. Also: On The Batcave Podcast, Kevin and John finally wrap up their review of the 1970s Saturday morning series Electra Woman and Dyna Girl! So there, you finally have something to be thankful for. Susan Lanier had a guest appearance on Welcome Back, Kotter where she played a flirtatious student named Bambi, who initially makes a move on Gabe. During the 1970s, she guest starred on shows such as Barnaby Jones, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Alice, Police Woman and Eight is Enough.[1]In 1976, she starred alongside John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt in the second pilot for Three's Company on ABC. Lanier, who served as the original choice by the producers to portray the newly created character Chrissy Snow, replaced Susanne Zenor in the cast when the characters, that were directly based from the original British sitcom Man About The House were done away with, but Lanier herself was then replaced by Suzanne Somers.[2] In 1977, Lanier starred in the original cult classic, The Hills Have Eyes. She also starred as Sandi Chandler on the television series Szysznyk from 1977 – 1978.She was a series regular on Tony Orlando and Dawn's Rainbow Hour for a season on CBS doing stand-up and comedy sketches with the show's guests. In the late 1970s, Lanier starred at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in a production of Tennessee Williams' (né Thomas Lanier Williams, to whom, like actress Diane Ladd, she is related) The Night of the Iguana, which starred Richard Chamberlain. In the 1980s, Lanier had her own country-blues band and performed in the LA club scene. She wrote music with her future and now late husband, legendary rock/blues artist, Delaney Bramlett, writer of "Superstar" and "Never Ending Song of Love" fame.[citation needed]She continued to act in movies of the week such as Madame X (1981), The Night the Bridge Fell Down (1983) and Her Life As A Man (1984), and had recurring roles on TV in the soap, Days of Our Lives, and the sitcom, So Little Time with the Olsen twins. She starred in 2003 in the Los Angeles stage production of Last of The Honkey Tonk Angels.[citation needed]You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/QK1-8KbFE0ELike and subscribe and follow me on instagram @wakeupwithkcWebsite: https://www.wakeupwithkc.com/Makeup provided by: https://farmasius.com/kcgingerJewelry provided by: Pretty Bling Boutiquehttps://www.facebook.com/prettyblingboutique/Media Manager: Steven Joiner : stevesjnetwork@gmail.comLogo created by: Eden Fritz AguiarProducer & Marketing Dir, Clovercrest MediaOpener created by: Zachary LaPlantCMG | Social Media Manager| Chief Video Editor

While Kevin relaxes in the background making sarcastic comments, Kornflake presents a Top 4 1/2 List of weird superheroes! Pilot Month 2022 concludes on It Was a Thing on TV as the gang looks at a pair of pilots with one common theme. They have someone who was on Night Court. First, Kung Fu originally ran for 3 seasons on ABC and made David Carradine a star. Just like any quality show, a network (in this case, CBS) wanted to reboot it. Kung Fu: The Next Generation didn't make it out of pilot stage, but did air on CBS in the summer of 1987. It did give us a glimpse of a future legend in a key role. Then, The WB (and now, The CW) like their superhero shows. In 2001, The WB piloted a reboot of a mid-70s superhero duo, but brought them to the modern day including making the main character (we're not joking) a 50-year-old divorcee who lives in a trailer and is a raging alcoholic. Needless to say, The WB said thanks but no thanks to Electra-Woman and Dyna-Girl. Follow us on social media @itwasathingontv on Instagram and Twitter and @itwasathingontvpodcast on Facebook. "Ali Baba" Aired: October 23/30, 1976 This might just be the episode that could be considered the best overall. Oscar Quintero was born In Hacienda Heights, CA a suburb outside of Los Angeles, the youngest of six children. Oscar knew in order for him to be heard, he would have to speak up. And that he did! In the sixth grade he was cast as the lead in the Glenalder Elementary School Play, “Christmas Fever” where he caught the acting bug. From then on, he looked for ways to be in front of a crowd, like joining the drama club in high school and taking a few acting classes in College. It was in 1999 that Oscar got his break as he met his alter ego, Kay Sedia, when he auditioned for a drag pageant fundraiser called “Quest for the Crown”. It was at that event that things really began to take shape. Being named the runner-up was the best outcome that could've happened for Oscar. As he became a crowd favorite, many club owners and promoters began to ask for Kay Sedia to make appearances at various local clubs and events. That is where Oscar met Mr. Dan, the owner of Dragstripp 66 and The Plush Life. They began to collaborate and perform together for the next seven years. It was performing in the Plush Life, a weekly drag improv soap opera that Oscar realized and developed his sense of comedic timing. It was thru this show that Oscar met Kurt Koehler and thus began another great collaborating relationship. While writing Superfag, a short film about a gay Superman, Kurt added a part for Kay Sedia as her alter ego, Taco Chick, and created side kick, Salsa Girl, as a spoof of the Sid & Marty Croft kids morning show, “Electra Woman and Dyna Girl”. One year later, in the summer of 2003, the two began to collaborate on what was to become a big underground hit in Silverlake, CA ; “Chico’s Angels”, a Latin drag queen version of the popular 70’s T.V. show Charlie’s Angels. Over the next five years, four original stage shows, “Pretty Chicas All In A Row”, “Love Boat Chicas”, “Chicas In Chains” and “Chicas Are 4Ever”played to sold out audiences starring the three Angels; Kay Sedia, Chita Parole, and Frieda Laye. Seeing the popularity of Chico’s Angels, they decided to give “Taco Chick and Salsa Girl” their own short film. It has traveled festivals around the world and has won many awards. More recently, Kurt and Oscar helped create and produce, “Cooking With Kay”, a T.V. pilot presentation about a bitter cooking show diva who’s forced to work with a former Tijuana beauty queen, Kay Sedia. The show is currently being shopped around; a short trailer can be seen at www.cookingwithkay.com Oscar has also been in three feature films, ALIEN GAME, GETTING LUCKY and AU PAIR, KANSAS starring Traci Lords, as well as in the short films SPEAK ENGLISH AMIGOS, HEIRLOOM, and ALMOST MARRIED. "The Sorcerer's Golden Trick" Aired: September 11/18, 1976 As part of the Krofft Supershow, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl ran for 16 weeks in two part installments. John and co-host Kevin Eldridge of The Flopcast take on these episodes, discussing them scene and scene and exploring what the "Voltage Vixens" have in common with the "Caped Crusaders". In the opening episode, The Sorcerer escapes from a maximum security prison with a scheme to steal all the gold from Fort Knox. But there is something wrong with the scheme as it involves the use of mirrors. John and Kevin discuss the episode, the guest cast, and try to determine how the Electra Comps work and the extent of their powers. Electra-awesome! Put on your spandex and tie on your cape for our look at Gilmore Girls episode 203. Who are Electra Woman and Dyna Girl? A lot of other people would say they’re the starring roles in a 1976 children’s sci-fi TV series, but we’d call them the pop culture ref that’s made us the angriest we’ve ever been by the end of an episode. You’re the Best/You’re the West: Who would be the best and worst superheroes in Stars Hollow? Other pop culture we ref: ZOOM, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Dragon Tales, The Mamas and the Papas, Star Wars, Cyndi Lauper

Our excruciating all-summer-long review of High Feather continues! In High Feather episode 4, the kids publish the camp newspaper (using incredible technology like mimeograph machines and typewriters), and we learn a goofy apple-picking song too. (How did this show not sweep the Emmy Awards?) It's also National Gummy Worm Day, which makes us ponder the existence of gummy skinks (because creepy lizards just make everything better). And we review the list of celebrity contestants on the new Battle of the Network Stars, a revival of the classic (and ridiculous) Howard Cosell-hosted show from the 70s and 80s. The new show promises to be ridiculous too, but the players include Greg Brady, Danny Partridge, Daisy Duke, the Incredible Hulk, Isaac the Bartender, Electra Woman, and a couple of Facts of Life girls. So yeah, they have our attention, even if this is seriously cutting into our High Feather time. Next week: We'll be back from CONvergence! Hopefully!
**Green Lanterns Should Be 5 Years-Old** On this week’s show, we discuss the new superhero comedy movie Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, the Wynonna Earp TV series, the possibility of an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover movie and more.
