Throughout his storied career, the legendary Steven Soderbergh has directed a wide array of highly acclaimed films and/or hits (Out of Sight, Ocean's 11, Magic Mike, Black Bag, Logan Lucky, Contagion, Sex, Lies, & Videotape) and THIS is the film which earned him his only Oscar for Best Director in 2000. This was actually one of two films (the other being Erin Brockovich) which he was nominated for in 2000 which turned out to be a TRULY stellar year for him! It's a sprawling story about the American "War on Drugs" during the late '90's, focusing on several different characters on different sides of the law and various levels of the drug trade including two DEA agents (Don Cheadle, Luis Guzman), a judge who has just been appointed the National Drug Czar (Michael Douglas), the wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) of a suspected drug dealer (Steven Bauer), that couple's conniving attorney (Dennis Quaid), a teenager (Erika Christiansen) who becomes addicted to crack, and one conflicted Mexican cop (Benicio Del Toro who won an Oscar for his performance). It's a complex story delving into a lot of moral grey areas and it's a testament to all of the talent involved (including Oscar-winning writer Stephen Gaghan) that this film was not only highly acclaimed but also a word-of-mouth blockbuster with audiences at the time of release. However twenty-five years later, it is not often mentioned by many as among Soderbergh's best....so how does this ambitious ensemble hold up? Let's find out if any one gets away clean.....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

I'm truly thrilled and honored—to be speaking with someone whose presence on screen has shaped decades of storytelling: the timeless and deeply talented Andie MacDowell. For more than forty years, Andie has been captivating audiences with her unmistakable grace, authenticity, and that quiet Southern strength that seems to live at the center of everything she does. Many of us first met Andie as Jane Porter in 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan' back in 1984. Since then, she's become part of cinematic history—shining in films like 'Sex, Lies, and Videotape', 'Green Card', 'Groundhog Day', and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. These aren't just movies; they're cultural touchstones, and Andie is woven into each one. Her versatility has always been her signature—whether she's bringing heart to a romantic comedy or grounding a dramatic role with sincerity and depth. And today, Andie continues to redefine herself in the award-winning Hallmark series 'The Way Home', where she plays Del Landry, an unshakeable matriarch navigating the complexities of family, memory, love, and yes—time travel. It's a role that feels almost tailor-made for her: warm, wise, layered, and fiercely human. Off-screen, Andie is devoted to the role she holds most dearly: mother of three—Justin, Rainey, and Margaret Qualley—and now a proud grandmother. As one biographer beautifully put it, “Andie MacDowell stands out as a shining example of individuality and tenacity in a world where success often overshadows sincerity.” And today, we get to explore that sincerity up close. Please join me in welcoming the extraordinary Andie MacDowell. ——

Ahhhh swingers and posting pictures. Have you ever joined a swinging site and recoiled in horror at some of the pictures posted? Perhaps you feel like you could never compete? Or maybe you constantly share pictures and videos every three and a half minutes? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are prob'ly human! Congratulations! We talk about all things posting pics and vids. We cover what we like, what doesn't work for us and how things have changed. Mrs H accepts a challenge and we share our thoughts on why we do what we do when it comes to spicy images. Hopefully there's plenty of food for thought! Thanks for hopping into our bed. PS - Mrs H chose the music on this one. So if you like it, let us know. And if it's not working for you, let us know that too!
Over the span of a single decade, VHS technology changed the relationship between privacy and entertainment, pried open the closed societies behind the Iron Curtain, and then sank back into oblivion. Its meteoric rise and fall encapsulated the dynamics of the '80s and foreshadowed the seismic cultural shifts to come after the Cold War.In the West, its advent deepened the trends of the age: individualism, consumerism, the fragmentation of society, and the consolidation of corporate power in the entertainment industry and its victory over the regulatory powers of the state. In the East, it encouraged new forms of socialization and economic exchanges, while announcing the gradual crumbling of government control over the imagination of the people.By the mid-1990s, the VHS format was displaced by the DVD. The DVD would eventually give way to streaming. As explored in Videotape (Bloomsbury, 2025), by Dr. Oana Godeanu-Kenworthy in the Object Lessons series, the cultural legacy of the videotape continues to inform our relationship to technology, privacy, and to entertainment. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. In May of 2002, a St. Louis reporter received a letter with a map marked with an X and a chilling message: "To prove I'm real, here's directions to number seventeen." The map leads police to a body. And one digital mistake exposed a killer's darkest secrets. Between 2000 and 2002, at least twelve women vanished from the streets of St. Louis, their deaths barely noticed by a society that had already dismissed them. What investigators found in a suburban basement would out one of the most disturbing serial killers in American history.Sources:https://www.stltoday.com/ (Main site - archival articles from 2002)https://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/11/us/internet-used-to-find-man-who-is-charged-in-2-of-10-killings.htmlhttps://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2002-jun-17-na-serial17-story.htmlhttps://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=132005&page=1 (Serial Killer's Home Movies)https://abcnews.go.com/US/woman-found-serial-killer-lived-home-watching-tv/story?id=24467447https://www.bnd.com/news/local/crime/article311186715.htmlhttps://fox2now.com/news/true-crime/serial-killer-maury-travis-the-street-walker-strangler/https://www.semissourian.com/story/77256.htmlForensic Files: "X Marks the Spot" (Season 7, Episode 35) - Available on streaming platformsCold Case Files: "A Map to Murder" (Season 2, Episode 19) - Originally aired on A&EEvil, I: "Hell's Basement" episodeUnknown Serial Killers of America (2025)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maury_Travishttps://web.archive.org/web/20120509185024/http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/criminal_mind/forensics/vernon_geberth/12.htmlhttps://www.fbi.gov/https://isp.illinois.gov/https://www.slmpd.org/https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/forensics/digital-evidencehttps://dnadoeproject.org/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/reverie-true-crime--4442888/support.Keep In Touch:Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/reveriecrimepodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/reverietruecrimeTumblr: https://reverietruecrimepodcast.tumblr.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/reverietruecrimeContact: ReverieTrueCrime@gmail.com Intro & Outro by Jahred Gomes: https://www.instagram.com/jahredgomes_official

Religious scholar and recurring guest Gavin joins Dan and Brian to discuss the long-running Brazilian series of horror films directed by, written by, and starring José Mojica Marins as "Coffin Joe" -- the monstrous, atheist, libertine undertaker. Join as they discuss Coffin Joe's persona, the religious and political context of the film, the shifting tone in the series, Marins' three-pronged approach to horror, the role of transgressive ickiness in telling a horror story, and the censorship forces on Marins. One of the defining stories of the 2000 Oscar year was the one-two punch of Steven Soderbergh delivering both Traffic and Erin Brockovich, making good on the past decade's worth of promise kicked off by Sex Lies and Videotape. In 2001, the victory lap was Ocean's Eleven, a Vegas heist remake that cast some of … Continue reading "361 – Ocean's Eleven"
Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we have a first! Our guest today is a sibling of a prior guest from just a few weeks back. Our guest today is Karen Crane, the sister of Robert Crane and the daughter of Hogan's Heroes star actor Bob Crane. While you may have thought we hit all the high notes on being the child of Bob Crane in our prior episode, well, guess again. Karen has her own, very unique story to tell. Born a decade after brother Robert, Karen spoke to us about her story from her own perspective including the details of her parents' divorce, her father's ‘wandering eye' as she puts it, as well as his obsession with photography and cameras that ultimately led to his murder in 1978 when she was just 17 years old. We also spoke to Karen about what it was like dealing with her father's second family and the difficulties that entailed both while he was living and well after his death. What's more, Karen spoke to us about a book she is writing on her own life. She's one chapter away from finishing her autobiography, some ten years in the making. What once was a nice story about family life and the best things about being Bob Crane's daughter has gone to a much darker place. What started out as one thing became entirely something else once she started to examine her own emotions and the events surrounding her father's murder. Along the way we did manage to squeak in some light moments including what kind of car her dad drove, his favorite ice cream and the one thing that she and her father did together that made her feel closest to him. We also learned quite a bit about things in her life that were difficult fifty years ago and are still difficult to this day. Karen held very little back in this episode and we appreciated her honesty and trust in sharing some truly difficult moments so we could share them with all of you. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and everyone has a story. However, none are like this one you are about to hear. Take a listen.

For September's episode, Mandy welcomes back Sects, Lies, and Videotape maven Gavin McDowell, who decided to take a very different approach from his last visit and assign Mandy a movie he was pretty sure (but not positive) she'd like: David Lean's 222-minute epic and perennial greatest-film-ever candidate Lawrence of Arabia. Tune in to hear the struggles of a parent trying to find three hours and forty-two minutes for a movie night, many musings on camel sartoriality, and whether Mandy did, in fact, enjoy watching two unbelievably gorgeous men make goo-goo eyes at each other for such a long time. There may also be discussion of the film.

A meticulously organized garage with labeled drawers for every type of nail and screw. A quiet family man who never raised his voice. A loyal employee of the family sprinkler business. This was the Jeffrey Gordon that everyone thought they knew – until police discovered what he'd been hiding between his mattress and box spring. When DNA technology finally connected Gordon to the brutal murders of Margaret Eby and Nancy Ludwig, investigators expected to find evidence of his crimes. What they discovered instead was a trophy collection so vast it would take weeks to catalog: approximately 1,200 pieces of women's underwear, many labeled with names, dates, and locations, hidden throughout his home, garage, and even behind his chimney. The man who appeared to be a model husband and father had been living a double life for decades as a voyeur and predator. The search revealed not just physical trophies but homemade videos filmed from hidden cameras in bathrooms, spliced together with movie scenes depicting sexual assault. Gordon had compiled his disturbing obsessions while maintaining his public persona as a quiet chess champion who helped his children with homework and attended church regularly. His own family seemed blind to the red flags – though his brothers privately referred to him as "the panty sniffer," they never reported his concerning behavior. Most troubling were the accounts from neighbors and acquaintances who had encountered Gordon's darker side years earlier. Multiple women reported finding him peeping in windows or discovering him in their homes, but when they informed his family, they were asked not to involve police. Despite previous imprisonment in Florida for similar offenses, Gordon had been protected by a wall of silence that allowed his behavior to escalate to murder. The Jeffrey Gordon case exposes how predators hide in plain sight, and how communities can enable their behavior through denial and silence. Listen as we unravel the investigation that finally brought him to justice and the shocking discoveries that revealed the true extent of his crimes. What other secrets might still be hidden in those meticulously labeled containers?Send us a text Support the show

Andrew Gordon & John Humphrey return for a gripping Reaction & Review of Dexter Season 2, Episodes 5–8, as the tension escalates and secrets close in on Miami's favorite blood spatter analyst/vigilante killer. In these pivotal middle episodes—"The Dark Defender," "Dex, Lies, and Videotape," "That Night, a Forest Grew," and "Morning Comes"—Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall, Six Feet Under, Safe) begins to feel the noose tightening around his double life. With the Bay Harbor Butcher case gaining national attention and Doakes (Erik King, Oz, National Treasure) growing more suspicious, Dexter must outmaneuver both the authorities and his own inner demons. As Dexter investigates his past and comes face-to-face with one of his mother's murderers, his connection with Lila (Jaime Murray, Spartacus, Warehouse 13) deepens—fueling chaos and impulsive decisions that threaten his bond with Rita (Julie Benz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Desperate Housewives). Meanwhile, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Limitless) continues rebuilding her confidence after surviving the Ice Truck Killer, while Agent Lundy (Keith Carradine, Nashville, Deadwood) leads the task force hunting the Bay Harbor Butcher—unaware he's working alongside him. These episodes are packed with iconic and highly searched moments, including the “Dark Defender” comic book fantasy, Dexter's hidden camera dilemma, the explosive confrontation with Lila in Episode 8, and the increasing paranoia as Dexter's secret edges closer to exposure. Otherwise, we'll just watch Killer Klowns from Outer Space Again. Because it's a classic! Let's look into the world of VHS. What we're Enjoying Shua found a cool noir detective audio drama on Audible. The Big Fix: A Jack Bergin Mystery stars Jon Hamm as the classic style detective, trying to get a wrongly accused man out of jail and solve a murder, all surrounded by the Brooklyn Dodgers moving to LA. Totally fun, and totally free. Jay has been wanting to see what the new Apple TV+ series starring Seth Rogan called The Studio. It is an interesting look at the movie industry and the chaos that makes it. Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the 2012 kind-of-Alien prequel called Prometheus. It is a gory telling of the classic tale of aliens destroying man. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. His YouTube channel Chris Collects Stuff spotlights some of the great things he loves to collect, particularly VHS tapes. This quirky and growing hobby is not only fun, it's also a way to preserve a historical era when we were obsessed with consuming as much media as we could, in magnetic, rectangular form. We discuss the why of the hobby, some rare finds, and some that are elusive. And make sure to like and subscribe to Chris Collects Stuff on YouTube Do you still have VHS tapes? What tapes did you wear out watching them so often? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Who needs WiFi when we have HiFi?” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. We thought it was finally time to do a light-hearted film and then we scratched that idea and broke down the extremely dark, comedic, slasher horror film, American Psycho. Turns out our good buddy, Chris Chatham, has a pretty dark sense of humor and was all onboard to discuss this film. We had a great time and he still managed to keep a running joke going since his very first episode with us. Enjoy!
In this episode of Horror Hour with the Hanna's, we take a deep dive into American Psycho (2000), Mary Harron's razor-sharp adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's infamous novel. With Christian Bale delivering a career-defining performance as the impeccably groomed and deeply unhinged Patrick Bateman, this film slices into the heart of 1980s consumer culture, toxic masculinity, and moral decay—all with a wink and a blood-spattered smile. We explore the film's biting satire, stylish direction, and the ongoing debate: is Bateman a cold-blooded killer or just a delusional product of Wall Street excess? From the now-iconic business card scene to chainsaws and Huey Lewis, American Psycho continues to spark discussion 25 years later.Book Discussion: 15:30 - 26:11Follow Us on Instagram and TikTok: @horrorhourwiththehannasMusic by Aries Beats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPpnxLYrzVA

This is an encore presentation of a previous episode, originally airing in August 2023. --- The two sounds Tommy Prine says he remembers most growing up were having the AM radio on or his father (renowned singer/songwriter John Prine) workshopping tunes at the kitchen table. Journeying through adolescence, his eclecticism later manifested through acts like Outkast and System of a Down. But now, on the heels of This Far South — his debut album — Tommy has found his own unique voice that marries his mom's Irish wisdom and his dad's dry Midwestern/Southern wit. On today's show, Tommy shares why Radiohead's “Videotape” speaks to him, his experiences working with Nashville talents Ruston Kelly and Gena Johnson on This Far South, and how the artwork for this album feels like both an ending and a beginning. Visit tommyprine.com for your dates, socials and more.
On the surface, the star of one of the most popular television series of the 1960s was a squeaky-clean symbol of America's innocence. But Hogan's Heroes' Bob Crane lived a secret double life that very few people knew about. His custom-built pornographic paradises were hidden behind the closed doors of his dressing room and apartment. He was obsessed with extra-marital sexual exploits, and he documented them with cutting-edge technology. The joy he received from making people smile was matched only by his need to fulfill his darkest desires…a need that would end in murder.
