In this latest edition of the podcast, Mick The Hat continues recounting his remarkable journey with Pink Floyd, continuing from where he left off with the final Wall show on June 17th, 1981 at Earl's Court. Beginning in 1984 with The Pros & Cons Of Hitchhiking tour, Mick's recollections as a Pink Floyd enthusiast and concert taper cover the early solo careers of Roger Waters and David Gilmour, continuing into Pink Floyd's final tour in 1994. Mick talks about how the desire for more Pink Floyd related records was at a peak in the mid 1980's, when many outside artists collaborated with members of the band before the “Dry Floyd” formed. Most notable is how a tape of David Gilmour playing Cliff Richard almost made it onto a bootleg vinyl, and currently has yet to be released. From accidentally flushing his contacts in a hotel room outside of Sweden, to running a Taxi Driver's toll fare up in New Jersey, finding himself in the sea of empty faces in Berlin, and witnessing after-gig road crew jams in Paris, Mick's stored and well-travelled recollections of this period is a story not to be missed.

In this episode, I sit down with Don Bies – former Lucasfilm archivist and special effects artist at ILM – for a deep dive into his career and his time inside the Star Wars archive. Don takes me right back to his childhood in Chicago, where a viewing of the 1931 Frankenstein sparked a lifelong fascination with makeup effects and filmmaking . From experimenting with homemade prosthetics to building a full-size R2-D2, his early passion eventually led him to California. We talk about his first major break working on The Fly, where he contributed to several effects – many of which ended up on the cutting room floor, but gave him invaluable experience. From there, Don's path into Lucasfilm begins, starting with operating R2-D2 on commercials alongside Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and even George Lucas. That connection ultimately led to him working on the Lucasfilm archives. This is where things get really interesting. Don describes what it was like stepping into a warehouse full of original Star Wars props, models and documents – much of it undocumented and at risk of being lost or discarded . He shares stories of discovering key items like Darth Vader's helmet hidden in a crate, uncovering original manuscripts and audio recordings, and building one of the first digital catalogues of the collection. We also get into:His role in early Lucasfilm exhibitions and the growth of the archiveWorking at Skywalker Ranch and the unique creative environment thereThe transition period between Return of the Jedi and the Special EditionsWearing multiple costumes (including Boba Fett) during the Special Edition shootsThe reality of preserving film history inside a working production companyIt's a brilliant conversation that really captures a moment in time when Star Wars history could easily have been lost – and the people who helped save it.This podcast is completely independent and made possible by listener support. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) is one of the bleakest and most notorious serial killer horror films ever made, and in this episode of Cutting Deep into Horror, Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi dig into what makes John McNaughton's grim 1986 cult classic still feel so raw, disturbing, and hard to shake. Starring Michael Rooker in a chilling breakout role, Henry strips away slick movie thrills and replaces them with grime, dread, and the sickening feeling that you are watching something you should not be seeing. Inside this episode:why Henry feels more like a serial killer character study than a conventional slasherhow the film's cold, ugly realism makes the violence hit harderthe disturbing dynamic between Henry, Otis, and Beckywhy the ending lingers long after the creditshow the movie uses restraint, suggestion, and atmosphere to become even more upsetting than gorier horror filmswhether its “true story” reputation helps or hurts the movie's powerHenrique and Rachael get into the film's nasty little-world realism, its uncomfortable intimacy, Michael Rooker's unsettling screen presence, and the way Henry blurs the line between horror movie, exploitation film, and crime nightmare. They also talk through the movie's reputation, what makes Becky such an important part of the story, and why this one still feels meaner and more dangerous than a lot of modern serial killer horror.Film detailsYear: 1986Director: John McNaughtonStarring: Michael Rooker, Tom Towles, Tracy ArnoldRuntime: 83 minutes Where to watch (U.S., this week):Amazon Prime Video, and free options including Pluto TV, Fandango at Home Free, and Plex, with rental/purchase options on Apple TV
