Yes, I did recommend that tin can that David Waldman used to record today's KITM, but I did not spec out that string… David might have told you that we would have beautiful sound in "two weeks", but what he really meant to tell you is, "Don't rush" him. The Waldmans pass through beautiful Astoria, the coastal city that seems like it was plucked right out of a storybook, and like it has had a thousand movies plucked right out of it, including one of David's earlier roles in Kindergarten Cop. Donald K. Trump plans to rename everything good after himself and eliminate any bad references. That should work great, right? As long as time no longer moves forward from this point. What would accountability look like if Democrats were back in control? The ex–FBI informant who tried to Smirnov Joe Biden has been slipped out of prison. It might not be named the "Trump War", but that name will do until he gets us into something bigger. Having achieved complete victory in Iran, Trump and Pete Hegseth now are wiping out the top echelons of our armed forces. Replacements will be assigned once Donald's and Pete's visions are hashed out. The latest ousting is Navy Secretary John Phelan, who was fired after Hegseth caught him sending Donald unsolicited deck pics. Good news for anyone downwind of Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner: Donald won't be sticking around for the "dinner" part; he has something to get to after his speech.
The Ringer's Bill Simmons and Kyle Brandt just need to know one simple thing: Who is your daddy, and what does he do? The guys head to Astoria, Oregon, to revisit Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘Kindergarten Cop,' also starring Pamela Reed and Richard Tyson. Joe Concha breaks down the "plot twist" in the Minnesota ICE agent attack and shreds the media narrative that the officer was barely injured. He analyzes Donald Trump's fearless return to Butler, Pennsylvania, while questioning the security failures of July 13th. Plus, Joe roasts a Congressman who resembles Fantasy Island's Tattoo, explains why Kindergarten Cop has a better grasp on biology than the Supreme Court, and celebrates the return of whole milk to public schools. From Oprah's million-dollar check to a run-in with Hulk Hogan, Joe covers it all with a side of 90s rap nostalgia. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week on The Video Store Podcast I am recommending four films that sit in an interesting stretch of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career, when their action persona took a left turn into broad studio comedy. These are all wide release films that played constantly on cable and sat on the front wall of the video store for years. They did well in theaters, but they almost felt built to be rented, watched with other people in the room, and talked about afterward. None of them are obscure, but seeing them together makes the choices clearer and more deliberate.Twins from 1988 was the real pivot point. Ivan Reitman directed, pairing Arnold Schwarzenegger with Danny DeVito, which on paper felt like a gag and ended up working better than expected. It was one of the first times Schwarzenegger played openly against his screen image instead of reinforcing it. The film was also a financial gamble that paid off. Rather than taking a traditional salary, the main players took a share of the profits, which turned into one of the most lucrative deals of the era. It also helped normalize the idea that Schwarzenegger could carry a comedy without winking at the audience the whole time.Kindergarten Cop followed in 1990 and again teamed Schwarzenegger with Reitman. This one leans harder into contrast, placing a very rigid screen presence into a setting that refuses to bend to it. The child actors are doing a lot of the real work here, and the movie wisely lets them. It was shot largely in Oregon (Goonies country!), which gives it a look that stands apart from a lot of studio comedies of the period. Just his second comedy leading role and the formula is obvious, but it still had enough care put into it to feel earned rather than lazy.Junior arrived in 1994 and is probably the strangest entry in this group. It brings back Reitman, DeVito, and adds Emma Thompson, who plays it straight in a way that grounds the movie more than it probably deserves. This was one of the last times Schwarzenegger leaned fully into this specific style of high concept studio comedy. The visual effects were handled with restraint, and the film relies more on performance than spectacle, which makes it feel smaller and more controlled than its premise suggests.Jingle All the Way from 1996 closes things out and feels very much of its moment. Directed by Brian Levant, it leans into consumer anxiety, holiday chaos, and the late nineteen nineties obsession with must-have toys. Sinbad is a big part of why the movie works at all, pushing against Schwarzenegger in a way that keeps the energy up. It was not especially well reviewed at the time, but it has stuck around in a way many similar holiday comedies did not. It also marks the end of this particular run, before audience tastes and Schwarzenegger's career both shifted again.Taken together, these four movies show a very specific window when studios were comfortable reshaping a major star's image and audiences went along with it. They were reliable rentals, easy recommendations, and the kind of movies that people discovered out of order on VHS or on cable. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! Iconic and highly searched moments include the Slimer hotel encounter, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man rampage, Dana's possession scene, and the climactic rooftop battle with Gozer. With its instantly recognizable theme song by Ray Parker Jr., sharp writing, and perfect blend of scares and laughs, Ghostbusters became a cultural phenomenon and remains one of the most beloved films of the 1980s. Equal parts spooky and hilarious, Ghostbusters stands as a timeless reminder that when there's something strange in your neighborhood… you know who to call! Send us a textIt's not a tumor, it's Filmshake! And we're talking 1990's Kindergarten Cop. Arnie only appeared in 12 movies in the 90's, so we're trying to stay as patient as Chekhov's Ferret in covering them, but now, for the 35th anniversary, it's time to go back to elementary school with the Governator! After all, we don't want to be soft and lack discipline! Speaking of, we're also talking our punishment film, 1990's direct-to-video trash, Maniac Cop 2. This is a movie that at least knows it isn't worthy of a roman numeral. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy it! ...or...er...parts of it. This week on Totally 80s & 90s Recall, the podcast crew revisited the 1990 classic Kindergarten Cop, and it proved to be a surprisingly entertaining mix of action and comedy. Arnold Schwarzenegger stepping into a classroom full of energetic kids creates a delightfully oddball scenario, balancing tough-guy antics with heartwarming moments. The movie's humor, combined with its over-the-top premise, makes it an engaging trip back to early 90s cinema. Beyond the laughs, the film captures the quirks of the era, from its style to its tone, and manages to keep viewers invested despite its improbable story. Its charm lies in the collision of chaos and comedy, with memorable performances that have helped it endure as a nostalgic favorite. In the end, Kindergarten Cop remains a fun, feel-good snapshot of 90s entertainment that's still enjoyable to revisit today. On the 131st episode of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, a podcast that has spent more time in the ‘90s than the Clinton administration. Bryan, Dan, and Preston revisit a movie that asks the big, important questions: Can an Austrian killing machine convincingly teach preschool? Is it okay to introduce children to heroin dealers before phonics? And why, exactly, was Kindergarten Cop shown at every elementary school movie day like it was Charlotte's Web? Yes, they're talking about Kindergarten Cop (1990), the high-concept action comedy where Arnold Schwarzenegger, fresh from body-slamming aliens and blowing up jungles, trades his Uzi for juice boxes and circle time. The trio dive headfirst into the genre whiplash of Ivan Reitman's wildly successful, weirdly traumatic family action-comedy. This is a film, after all, that made over $200 million by pitching itself as “Daddy Day Care meets Scarface,” except with more feral children and less Eddie Murphy in makeup. The post Episode #131 – Kindergarten Cop (1990) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.
JT was tasked with finding a movie where a cop falls in love and JT found a movie where a cop doesn't just fall for a woman, but his heart is also stolen by a kindergarten class in Kindergarten Cop. Is Schwarzenegger the best teacher to ever live? Tune in and find out!!!

From a plumbing-free house in post-war Austria to the glamour of Hollywood and the Governor's mansion in California, Arnold Schwarzenegger's life story is one of the most remarkable in modern history. In this episode, we trace the extraordinary rise of the “Austrian Oak,” a man who didn't just chase the American Dream — he body-slammed it into reality. We begin with Arnold's tough upbringing under a strict father in rural Thal, and how cinema and bodybuilding became his escape. From going AWOL to win his first competition to becoming Mr. Universe by age 20, Arnold's relentless ambition was evident early on. But it was his leap to the United States that truly set the stage for global superstardom. Arnold's charisma and dominance reshaped bodybuilding, but his ambition didn't stop there. With Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, he broke into Hollywood, creating an iconic image of the action hero that defined a generation. We explore the peaks of his film career, including T2, Predator, and even his turn to comedy in Kindergarten Cop. Then came the ultimate plot twist: politics. Arnold's time as Governor of California was filled with both unexpected accomplishments and public controversy, culminating in a dramatic personal scandal. Yet, like all great screen icons, he refused to stay down for long. Now in his seventies, Arnold has stepped into the role of public philosopher, environmental advocate, and nostalgia icon. In this deep-dive episode, we explore how one man conquered three careers — bodybuilding, acting, and politics — and redefined what it means to be a self-made legend.
