I have been mildly aggravated by CGI and 3D animation for a while, and this week, I thought I'd just dive right in and analyze why CGI and video game characters look and move differently than real (real? live? actual? I don't know...) humans. Also, I think I said General Moff Tarkin instead of Grand Moff Tarkin, I hope all of the die-hard Star Wars fans out there will forgive my slip up.The book I mentioned is called Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin. It's available on Amazon.

(Well, a mistake, but a stupid one on my part.) I should have said “near reach” and “far reach.”

Around 20ish minutes in I refer to focusing in on "one area of conversation." I should have said "one area of concentration." Sorry about that. Also, for anyone interested in how my people watching session at the football game went... well, it didn't. When my son was on the field I was too busy worrying about him getting hit to really relax and observe well, and I spent the time he was on the sidelines being grateful he didn't get hit and have a concussion. Perhaps next time I want to people watch at a football game I need to go to one my kids aren't playing in.

Spoiler Alert!!!!There is no such thing as good posture. In this episode, I'll talk about what's really involved in posture and how is informs our body language. Here are the resources I mentioned: *Please remember to consult your health care provider before starting a movement practice. For Yoga:www.glo.com is a great website for yoga classes. They are an online subscription service with a wide range of classes available. I used it several years ago when they were only offering yoga, and I believe they have branched out to other practices now, in addition to yoga. For Pilates:Pilatesology is a great online subscription service for Pilates classes. There are lots of teachers, and a range of classes from beginner to advanced. Check it out at:www.pilatesology.comAnother resources for Pilates is Andrea Maida's youtube channel, Pilates Andrea. I take classes with Andrea twice a week, she is an excellent instructor. There are a bunch of videos on her youtube channel, many of them are on Pilates equipment, but there are also lots of mat classes that can be done on a yoga mat. This is hands down, THE BEST FREE RESOURCE FOR PILATES I have ever found.
I wanted to take a little time in this episode to share with you why I get so excited about body language and how I came to realize what a big difference it can make in a relationship to understand the movement of others.
Today we're talking about how Effort Elements combine, and how those combinations help form our own personal dialect of body language. Enjoy! Take care of yourself! Please don't watch the 2016 debate , or online sermons if they will be triggering for you! It's always an option to watch them on mute, or pick a Ted Talk instead. (Just remember that the nature of a Ted Talk is different than the nature of a sermon, it makes a difference in the speakers body language!)SNL 3rd debate between Trump and Clintonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kjyltrKZSY3rd Debate between Trump and Clinton on PBShttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smkyorC5qwcWimbledon 2019https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fduc5bZx3ssSide Note: I'm sorry if I'm offending any tennis players out there by my lack of technical tennis terms.Effort Element Cheat Sheet:Time: Acceleration/DecelerationWeight: Decreasing Pressure/ Increasing PressureFlow: Bound/ FreeSpace: Direct/Flexible
In this episode, I'll talk about the four ways that emotion shows up in the intention of our movement: Time, Weight, Space and Flow.
This episode we're considering 4 ways to consider our personal space. You'll see it in the first 30 seconds of this video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ9cprPAJpgThe rond de jambe a terre (where her foot drags on the ground) is Far Reach, Low Level.
