Susan Hensley discovered a powerful alternative when she picked up some crayons during the pandemic and let her "inner five-year-old get loose." This simple act of creative play opened a doorway to profound healing and self-discovery that changed the trajectory of her life.Susan joins us to share how art journaling became her pathway from corporate executive to transformational coach and author. With warmth and wisdom, she explains why this practice works especially well for people who don't consider themselves creative or artistic. "I have yet to meet an adult who takes themselves seriously while holding a crayon," she laughs, revealing how this simple tool helps silence our inner critic and access deeper wisdom. What makes Susan's approach so refreshing is its accessibility. Her three-minute scribbling exercise requires nothing more than two colors and a small piece of paper. Yet this brief creative play can provide what she calls a "turbo boost" for emotional processing—helping us move through rage, fear, and uncertainty with greater ease. She shares fascinating examples of how the images and symbols that emerged in her journals revealed truths her conscious mind hadn't yet recognized, from winding paths that predicted her career transition to an open door with a yellow lab that appeared just as she was publishing her book. For anyone navigating life's "messy middle" between endings and new beginnings, Susan offers both practical tools and compassionate perspective. Whether you're facing career changes, relationship shifts, or simply seeking more joy in your daily life, her insights on creative resilience provide a refreshing alternative to traditional self-help approaches. Is trying to understand spiritual truth a futile task? Is it all beyond words and beyond the logical understanding of the human mind? In this Q&A episode of Wisdom of the Sages, Kaustubha Das, with guest host Kishori Gopi, takes on one of the deepest questions of spiritual life—whether the ultimate reality can be known, described, or even spoken of. Drawing from the ancient dialectic between Advaita Vedanta and Bhakti Vedanta, they explore how the Absolute is perceived across different schools of Indian philosophy, and whether Krishna's teachings are meant to be understood—or simply surrendered to. Then, things get bold and existential: If we're not the body or the mind… why not just commit suicide? This intense question opens the door to a profound discussion on karma, the soul's journey, and why trying to “opt out” is ill advised. Morgan Freeman shows up. So does Groundhog Day. Somehow it all makes sense. Key Highlights * The Bhakti perspective: Krishna can be understood—and described—in rich detail * How Shankara's “neti neti” approach led to the idea of the indescribable Absolute * Karma as a cosmic reformatory system * Why suicide doesn't break the cycle—just moves it like a whack-a-mole * What Newton might say about karma (and why we're not totally convinced) * “They muddy the waters to make them seem deep.” — Nietzsche, and also Kaustubha

(The God Who Sees) Jesus submitted himself to the ultimate test. An enormous stone shut him away from the land of the living, but he burst out of the tomb in everlasting victory over sin and the grave, our purchase complete, to the praise and glory of his Father. And what was his supreme agenda after his early Sunday morning return from the grave? To reestablish connection with his closest followers, re-affirming his continuing love, having proven it as a brother who has laid down his life for his friends, and to quiet all remaining doubts about who he was and what he had done for his disciples, for us, for his Church. John 20:1-18, Jer. 29:13, Genesis 16:14,15,19-21,24-29, Genesis 21:1-17 1. John 20:1-18 – Jesus saw ______________________________________________ 2. There are other mysteries that do not conceal a truth to think your way through, but whose truth is itself the mystery. The more you try to fathom it, the more fathomless it is revealed to be. To say that God is a mystery is to say that you can never nail him down. Even on Christ the nails proved ultimately ineffective. ~Beyond Words, 2004, page 267, Frederick Buechner.

Today, Emily Kircher-Morris and Meredith Polsky look into the complexities of selective mutism, exploring its definitions, the importance of language in understanding it, and the personal experiences that led Meredith to specialize in this area. They discuss the myths surrounding selective mutism, and its manifestation as an anxiety disorder rather than a choice or a form of shyness. Meredith shares her journey as a parent of children with selective mutism and the challenges she faced in finding appropriate treatment, ultimately leading her to become a clinician herself. They explore the challenges of diagnosis, and provide effective therapeutic techniques. This is a must-listen for adults supporting children with selective mutism. TAKEAWAYS Selective mutism is often misunderstood as a choice. Language matters in discussing selective mutism. The term 'situational mutism' is gaining popularity. Parents play a crucial role in treatment. Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder, not shyness. Pushing children to speak can increase anxiety. There is a lack of awareness among clinicians about selective mutism. Selective mutism can complicate the diagnosis of autism. Children with selective mutism may not exhibit typical anxiety responses. Effective communication strategies are crucial for children with selective mutism. Send us a textCraig Parks transforms our understanding of connection with autistic children through the profound language of music. Drawing from his dual expertise as both a professional musician and father to an autistic son, Craig reveals how music became the bridge that helped his non-verbal toddler communicate and eventually thrive as a drummer with perfect pitch. The conversation takes us through Craig's personal journey of receiving his son's autism diagnosis at just 16 months old, facing the uncertainty of whether he'd ever hear his child say "Daddy," and discovering how melody and rhythm created pathways of connection where words couldn't reach. "When he is playing music with other musicians," Craig shares, "in that moment there is no neurotypical, there is no autistic—there's just humans creating energy together."This revelation led Craig to develop his groundbreaking "Parenting A to E" course, teaching parents to master their "affect"—the physical manifestations of emotions through facial expressions, body positioning, and vocal tone—to better connect with children across neurological differences. Through specially crafted songs that transform daily routines like bedtime and hand-washing into meaningful moments of connection, Craig demonstrates how parents can create lasting memories and stronger bonds with their children.Beyond parenting techniques, our conversation explores the creation of truly inclusive spaces where neurodivergent children can be celebrated for exactly who they are. Drawing from his 27 years directing summer camps, Craig shares how compassionate communities can be built where differences aren't just accommodated but embraced. Whether you're a parent, educator, or someone who values human connection across differences, this episode offers practical wisdom for using music to bridge neurological divides and foster relationships built on acceptance and joy.Ready to transform your connection with the children in your life? This leads us to the practical question of how to understand the role the "woahs" and "ohs" in contemporary worship more broadly. Is it good and right to have these kinds of phrases in our praise songs? Is worship better the more theologically precise it is? Read the full article here: https://www.mdpi.com/2077-1444/15/12/1454

In 2 Chronicles 20:12, Jehoshaphat prays, “For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” I wonder if some in the crowd weren’t thinking to themselves, “You call that leadership? No power. We don’t know what to do.” Most of the time we are looking for people who will say, “I am very powerful and I know exactly what to do.” That is what our culture most often identifies as true leadership. The Scripture, however, speaks something very different into our lives. We are frail. We are not that smart, and when we come to the understanding of our weakness and frailty, then we are comforted with the knowledge that the Spirit of God helps us in our weakness. As Paul would say in 2 Corinthians 12, “His power is perfected in our weakness.” If you have it all figured out, you know everything, and you have all the strength you need to meet the circumstances of your life, you can probably skip this weekend’s message. But if, by chance, you are at a place where you don’t really know what to do, or if you have come to a place where the circumstances seem overwhelming and you feel powerless, I pray you will join us the weekend. In our passage this week, Paul will reinforce a powerful truth that is so critical for the effective Christian life: “the Spirit helps us in our weakness.” — Pastor Chad McDonald

Do you find yourself using words like "trust" and "enjoy" when describing your horse training goals, but struggle to translate these concepts into action? You're not alone. Many riders grapple with the gap between their aspirations and day-to-day training decisions. In this episode, Stacy Westfall explores how to transform abstract horse training concepts into physical, observable actions. Key takeaways: Dreams remain intangible until we define what they look like in real-world situations Common phrases in horse training often mask deeper, more specific intentions The path from aspiration to action requires questioning your own assumptions Through real examples from her work with her horse Ember, Stacy demonstrates a questioning process that helps riders move beyond vague terminology to create meaningful, actionable training plans. This episode is essential for both goal-resistant and goal-oriented riders who want to bring their horse training dreams into physical reality.

Send us a textIn this thought-provoking episode of Advice from a Call Center Geek, we dive deep into one of the most contested questions in customer service technology:Can artificial intelligence truly demonstrate empathy, and how do we meaningfully measure it? While tech companies tout their AI's emotional intelligence capabilities, we'll cut through the marketing hype to examine what empathy really means in customer interactions. We'll explore practical examples from call centers where AI handles emotionally charged situations, comparing them with human responses to similar scenarios. Through real case studies and expert insights, we'll break down the components of empathy, from emotional recognition to appropriate response selection - and assess how AI systems measure up against these criteria.Rather than accepting the binary "AI can/cannot be empathetic" debate, we'll examine the nuanced reality of how AI systems process and respond to emotional cues. We'll discuss concrete metrics used in call centers to evaluate emotional intelligence, whether applied to human agents or AI systems, and question whether these measurements truly capture the essence of empathy. This episode challenges both AI skeptics and enthusiasts to reconsider their assumptions. For call center leaders and CX professionals, we'll provide actionable frameworks to evaluate AI solutions beyond the buzzwords, helping you make informed decisions about implementing emotionally intelligent automation in your customer service operations. How much time and money is your business losing to language barriers? Even though our teams speak English, the language barrier is still considered one of the biggest challenges for global teams. It doesn't just slow communication - it can disrupt your workflow, stall innovation, and prevent your teams from meeting (or exceeding) targets. Just how many opportunities have you missed, ideas lost in translation, or misalignments across teams have you experienced? But with AI, these barriers are slowly and consistently breaking. AI is changing how we see language differences from a hurdle to a strength - and it's time for you to take advantage of it. Let's explore how multilingual AI can make your global teams more connected and inclusive. The Multilingual Advantage: AI and Breaking Down Language Barriers Have you ever nodded during a meeting without knowing what was going on? That's the reality for many global teams - simple tasks become frustrating because of the linguistic divide. But AI is here to fix that. Here's how. Clear communication, anywhere Whether Japanese or Russian, multilingual AI can translate ideas and insights to ensure global teams can communicate and collaborate effectively. Real-time solutions AI translates content - reports, websites, documents - in real-time, allowing you to focus on getting work done. One language, one team Everything makes sense to everyone, from emails to meetings and projects, and no one gets lost in translation. A voice for everyone With everyone understanding each other, they can contribute - ideas won't get stuck behind small misunderstandings. AI is integral to how global teams operate - these tools make language your advantage, not a challenge. Learning with AI-Powered Knowledge Transfers Language shouldn't decide who gets to learn or grow - and advanced AI tools are making it happen. With these tools, learning becomes a level playing field, removing the barriers that hold teams back. This seamless knowledge transfer allows you to develop your entire workforce, no matter where they are. Leveraging tools for website localisation ensures your training resources and knowledge platforms are accessible to all. They don't simply translate word-for-word; they localise the content, ensuring it's culturally relevant and easy to understand for diverse audiences. From training portals to resource hubs and even onboarding materials, AI-powered knowledge transfer makes learning accessible without confusing translations. Building Inclusive, Global Workplaces Feeling left out of a conversation with your teammates is one thing, but feeling so because of language differences is another. For global teams, these gaps in language create distance, slowing progress and keeping bright ideas in the dark. However, multilingual AI helps you build a close-knit global team. Here's how. Brings Everyone In: AI translation tools ensure team members can understand and share ideas regardless of language. Creates Real Understanding: These tools go beyond translation - they forge strong bonds across teams. Encourages Participation: When employees feel included, they're more confident to speak up and contribute. Fosters Creativity: Without language roadblocks, your teams can share and build ideas together - just like a team should. AI translation tools fix communication issues and create a workplace where everyone feels valued and understood. Collaborating on a Global Scale for Success While it promises profits and opportunities for success, expanding on a global scale may become difficult - and it may have something to do with the language. Language differences often come with the risk of misunderstandings and slow communication among teams, making collaboration inefficient. However, AI translation tools result in more seamless collaboration and communication, enabling confident connections with partners, customers, and talents worldwide. Advancements in tech, like AI PCs, enhance the speed and accuracy of your A...

We all do it, don't we? Smile, nod, and hope no one pries too deep. In this episode of Calm it Down, we'll unpack the art of hearing what's not being said—the sighs, the subtle shifts in tone, the “I'm fine” that's one breath away from a breakdown. Together, we'll explore how to truly listen, not just with our ears but with our whole selves. Because sometimes the most important thing you can hear is what someone doesn't say.

Ruth, Prince, and David explore theories from historical and contemporary theologians, such as penal substitution, while highlighting how these interpretations impact real-life contexts, especially among marginalized communities and the oppressed. The conversation concludes with reflections on faith, suffering, and power, emphasizing transformation through love over wrath, with a heartfelt prayer for divine guidance and liberation.   This season we are exploring the future of Christian spirituality. Based on her own experience and the lives of people she accompanies on the journey, Ruth has been naming what she is noticing and observing regarding the future of Christian spirituality– how the Spirit is moving and how we can align ourselves to participate in the future God is leading us into. Elements she is naming include respect for the role of desire; emphasis on spiritual direction; welcoming and inclusive; committed to justice; and more. This season Ruth will sit down with thoughtful Christian leaders to discuss their thoughts on one of these elements, as it has to do with the future of Christian spirituality. This season was inspired by the Beyond Words series by the same name. Check out those posts here.   PRINCE RIVERS is senior pastor of Union Baptist Church in Durham, N.C. In this episode, Ruth delves into the future of Christian spirituality as it pertains to the role of justice. Joined by her long-time friend and expert in reconciliation studies, Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil, the discussion centers on the growing movement of the Holy Spirit towards deeper justice work, specifically racial justice. Dr. McNeil discusses her new book 'Empowered to Repair', which explores the biblical figure Nehemiah as a model for reparative actions that go beyond the warm fuzziness of relational reconciliation to concrete outcomes that reflect true justice. The conversation also addresses resistance within Christian communities towards reparations and repair, exploring how faith and a scarcity mentality influence these defenses. Ruth and Brenda call for activating all believers as ministers of reconciliation, underscoring the importance of integrating justice work with spirituality for the church to remain relevant, especially among younger generations.   This season we are exploring the future of Christian spirituality. In this heartwarming episode of No Dumb Questions, I'm thrilled to welcome Jocelyn Chung, a graphic designer, creator, and newly-published children's book author, to the podcast! We instantly connected during my last visit to Taiwan, and today we're diving into her debut book, “When Love is More Than Words”, a story that beautifully captures how love transcends language, especially within Asian families—a theme that deeply resonates with me, having grown up with my grandparents and extended family. Jocelyn shares the inspiration behind her book, how her upbringing in a Taiwanese-American household influenced her storytelling, and the creative journey from designer to author. We also explore the challenges she faced as a first-time author and the cultural values she hopes to pass on through her work. What does it mean to be welcoming and inclusive from a rooted depth, and how do we see the Holy Spirit nudging us towards this concept? Ruth is joined by a special guest, Transforming Center's very own cultivator of community and connection, Tina Harris, today to discuss the many ways we are called to practice hospitality in the name of Christ. Tina shares her own transformative experiences practicing radical hospitality, what it has felt like to not be welcomed, and practical and concrete ways churches can begin to become more welcoming and inclusive of all types of people. They also discuss why they think there is a resistance to this invitation and lament the ways that beautiful words and ideas like diversity, equity, and inclusion have become politicized, hot button issues. Tina Harris is ordained in the United Methodist Church and holds a Master of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology. She has served the church in a variety of roles, including Lead Pastor and Director of Mission, Service and Justice Ministries in the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church. Tina is passionate about community engagement and has served and/or actively supported several civic organizations and ministries. As an attorney and diversity leader, a common thread in her work is to gather individuals into communities, challenge comfort zones and invite those whom society has overlooked to take their place at the table.   Mentioned in this episode: Soul Feast by Marjorie J.
