The Celtics blow the doors of the Grizzlies 131-95 and we finally got to see 48 minutes of great basketball. Granted, it came against a bad Grizzlies team that was also decimated with injuries but you have to love seeing good basketball regardless. Pritchard led the way in this one with 24pts alongside 6reb and 9ast and was making some insane passes out there getting everyone involved. This was also the first time this season where Derrick White truly looked like his old self which is great to see! This was another game where Queta and Luka Garza really played well contributing 13pts 8reb and 14pts 7reb respectively. Because of their strong play, the Celtics did out rebound Memphis 58-41 in this game! Overall, there are a lot of strong performances and not a lot of negative to talk about which isn't how a lot of these early season games have gone lol. The Celtics move to 6-7 on the year and have a very winnable stretch of basketball ahead of them! This podcast is brought to you by me, Guy DePlacido. The Celtics blew the doors off of the Wizards 136-107 behind monster performances from JB and Minott! JB led the way with 35pts 5reb and 5ast and started this game red hot scoring on 16 of the teams first 20pts and never seemed to slow down! Minott scored a career high 21pts tonight and was a menace defensively in his most aggressive game of the year. Pritchard scored 16 of his 18 points during their huge 2nd quarter run and Queta added a beautiful 15pt 12reb 5ast game. This is by far the best a big has played for the Celtics all season long. It was certainly an ugly first quarter but the Celtics cleaned up all of their mistakes and played a near flawless 3 quarters after it. MTP Boston returns with Rayshawn Buchanan and Mike Marcangelo breaking down everything happening in Boston sports as the Celtics fight for rhythm and the Patriots keep finding ways to win. The Boston Celtics are off to a 3-4 start, and while their defense ranks third in the NBA, the offense remains inconsistent. Mike points to improved perimeter coverage and effort, while Rayshawn calls out what’s holding them back — rebounding and half-court execution. They break down Jalen Brown’s streaky scoring, Derrick White’s struggles from deep, and how Neemias Queta has quietly become one of Boston’s most reliable players. Queta’s toughness, rebounding, and shot-blocking have earned him a larger role, while Xavier Tillman’s versatility continues to give the rotation some flexibility against bigger lineups. The hosts debate whether Anfernee Simons should take on a larger offensive role to boost second-unit scoring. Rayshawn argues that Simons adds the tempo and shot creation Boston’s offense needs, while Mike warns that defensive lapses could cost them against playoff-caliber teams. Both agree that Boston’s offense often stalls late in games, especially when transition opportunities disappear. They discuss the team’s identity post-Porzingis and Horford, emphasizing how this younger, more athletic roster is built to play faster but still needs consistency on the boards. Rayshawn believes the Celtics can string together wins if they recommit to rebounding and off-ball movement. Mike sees potential but says the margin for error in the East is thin. Then it’s on to Foxborough. The New England Patriots, led by Mike Vrabel, have won five straight and now sit at 7-2, looking like a real AFC contender. Drake Maye continues to impress with his poise, mobility, and control. Stefon Diggshas transformed the passing game, and Trevion Henderson’s emergence adds explosiveness to the run game. The hosts debate how Rhamondre Stevenson’s return could change the backfield balance and how Vrabel’s leadership has restored accountability across the roster. Rayshawn praises the Patriots’ undefeated road record, while Mike highlights how Vrabel has reignited a winning culture built on toughness and smart football. They close with NFL Week 10 predictions, including matchups like Patriots vs Buccaneers, Vikings vs Ravens, Rams vs 49ers, and Eagles vs Packers. The Celtics got down by as many as 17 points in the first half but battled back to earn a 113-107 road win over the Bucks. The defense was incredible after the break, allowing just 38 second-half points (after 40 in the 1st quarter). Tatum led the way with 31/12/6 and Jaylen returned to action, looking no worse for the wear. Giannis' 43/15 wasn't enough as the Bucks fell to 2-8 on the season. Neemias Queta playing well to begin the year, the team is feeling the absence of Jaylen Brown
The Celtics won the first game of their miniseries in Charlotte 124-109 over the Hornets. It was a hard-fought battle against old friend Charles Lee's new team, but the Celts prevailed on the backs of the Jays. Brad Stevens continues to GOAT himself by locking up the entire core for next season highlighted by Jayson Tatum signing his Super Max Extension and Derrick White's 4 year $126Mill hometown discount contract! White opted to sign an extension now instead of testing free agency this year where he could've signed a 5year deal worth up to $237Mill. We now have our top 9 guys all locked up and even got Queta back on a 2 year minimum deal giving a little more depth at the big man position. All eyes are on Xavier Tillman's potential return OR the potential return of another beloved Celtic. The only downside to today's amazing news is that Celtics ownership group and Wyc Grousbeck are planning to sell the franchise. It has been amazing having fans of the Celtics backing the Celtics because they were willing to do what was needed to win. I'm definitely scared of what is to come with whoever decides to buy the franchise. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support

This game was bittersweet to say the least. While it won't be the final game we hear from Mike Gorman, it was his final regular season game and the Celtics sure made it memorable. They honored him throughout the entire game with pictures of him on every seat, dedicating the home broadcast booth to him and shining him with countless endorsements and Thank You's from Celtics greats. The Celtics pulled away with a 132-122 win over the Wizards and this was another game that was led by Payton Pritchard who had a near triple double with a career high 38pts along with 12ast and 9reb. Svi was also incredible with 26pts on 10-13 from the field! Queta also shined in this one with 19pts and 6blks! None of our top 6 played in this one but you never got the sense that they needed it which is incredible to say. Let's bring on the Playoffs! The Celtics beat the Hawks 125-117 and improve to 39-12 on the season and maintain a 5 game lead in first place. Besides Tatums poor shooting night, the Celtics offense was buzzing in this game. We tallied up 33ast on the night and were playing fluidly on that side of the ball. The defense did leave a lot to be desired in the first half giving up 67pts but they did buckle down and only gave up 50 in the second half. While the game was exciting, the talk of the day is Xavier Tillman. The Celtics traded Lamar Stevens and 2 second round picks for him earlier today. Tillman, a 6"7' PF is gifted defensively and can rebound well but his offense leaves a lot to be desired. Because it was a 1 for 1 player swap, the Celtics do have an open roster spot still so adding via the TPE is possible but it is also possible Brad keeps that spot open to convert Queta once he hits his 50 game limit so he can play come playoff time. The Celtics beat the Pacers 129-124 and continue to find ways to win. This was a game that we gave up 31 second chance pts that kept the Pacers in this game but the Celtics buckled down in the 4th and came up with some huge plays on both sides of the ball to pull out the win. All of our starters were huge in this game which is key when you're down Horford and Kornet. While the starters were great, we also got really timely contributions from Hauser, Pritchard and Queta in this game as well. One of the plays that stuck out the most was Queta winning a jump ball that was tipped by JB that he got his hands on and dunk to go up late in this game. Again, it wasn't a perfect game but they pulled off a huge win down the stretch! The Celtics destroy the Spurs 117-98 and improve to 20-0 at home!! This game was never really in question. They got out to an early lead and never looked back. These types of games are fun because you get to keep starters minutes low and see what some of the bench is capable of. Holiday, JB and Tatum were all really good in this one but one of the stars for me was Kornet! With Porzingis and White out tonight, Kornet got the start and really took advantage of it. He screened really well, passed the ball really well and defended at a high level. Queta was right there with him so we got very productive minutes from our backup bigs tonight. Pritchard continues to come off the bench and provide solid minutes as well. This is a solid win but a much more challenging game awaits the Celtics on Friday night. Their undefeated home record is on the line against the Nuggets! View From The Rafters: Behind the Scenes with the Boston Celtics
Neemias Queta joins Marc and Sean this week to talk about his path to the NBA and the Celtics – which is incredibly unconventional. Queta became the first Portuguese player to ever be drafted into the NBA and to ever play in an NBA game, after moving from Lisbon to Utah to play three years for Utah State. At Utah State, Queta ironically played with Danny Ainge's son, Crew, and quickly became one of the top shot blockers in the nation. Now, after two years of development in the Kings organization and being the runner up for G League MVP, Queta is playing more minutes for the Celtics than he ever has before in the NBA, all while showing his true promise as a big man – and especially as a shot-blocker. 0:30 – Becoming the first Portuguese player in the NBA 3:10 – Cultural differences between Portugal and Spain, and why to visit Portugal 6:55 – Why Queta chose to attend Utah State instead of going pro in Europe 12:05 – Becoming an elite shot blocker 20:00 – Being drafted by the Kings and developing in the G League 23:30 – Looking up to Al Horford and contributing to the Celtics this season 27:55 – Joe Mazzulla joking to the media about Queta's goaltending tendenciesSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Celtics escaped with a 120-118 win over the Raptors despite having no Tatum, Porzingis and Horford!! It certainly wasn't a perfect win as the Celtics turned the ball over 14 times allowing 22pts off those turnovers BUT they pulled off a very impressive win. As good as Queta has been at times during Kornets absence, Kornet got the start tonight and he showed up big time in this game. He ended up with 20pts 8reb and 3blk including an alley oop to go up 118-116 which ended up being the game winning bucket. Outside of Kornet, we did get a lot of help. JB was right there with another very great performance. He led the team with 31pts, led the team with 10reb and was 2nd on the team with 6ast. He was doing a little bit of everything in this game and despite his high turnovers, wasn't really forcing too much which is great to see. The Celtics as a whole moved the ball really well in this one tallying up 29ast on their 43fgm and JB was a huge part of that. It's not a perfect game but it's a huge win with a short handed roster that helps continue the Celtics undefeated home streak which is always nice to see! The Boston Celtics came home from an impressive West Coast road trip and ALMOST lost back-to-back games at home to two of the worst teams in the NBA. The Celtics won both games and continued to demonstrate their new-found ability to win games that we've come to expect them to lose over recent years. Derrick White and Jaylen Brown were dominant against the Raptors, while there were different heroes in the overtime win against the Pistons. Who is better at leading their own lineup, Derrick White or Jaylen Brown? Where are we at with the Queta vs Kornet argument now? Why were these games so difficult? After dropping that embarrassing game to the Warriors, the Celtics bounced back with two blow out victories. Tonight was a 145-108 win over the Clippers!! Jayson Tatum despite being questionable for the game, did in fact play and was excellent throughout leading the team in scoring with 30pts but he was not alone. This was another game that was very well balanced with 6 players in double digits. JB, White and Holiday were all excellent on both sides of the ball while Horford was excellent defensively. We also got great bench minutes from Queta, Brissett and Pritchard. The name of the game today was pace. The Celtics shot the ball very well connecting on 25 of 53 3pt attempts in this one which certainly helps but the Clippers couldn't keep up with the pace the Celtics were playing at and you just have to love it. This was a very good win against a solid Clippers team. If you're looking to buy or sell a home in the near future meet Deb Burke, your trusted realtor at Compass Real Estate, serving MA and NH. The Celtics played this game without Porzingis, Horford and Kornet and blew out a Magic team that has given the Celtics trouble as of late. With all 3 of our big men out, we suited Queta up for the game and even started Lamar Stevens at the 5 in this one and the Celtics just took advantage of speed all night long. When you are missing 3 rotational players, you need your stars to step up but you also need end of bench guys to do so as well and that is exactly what we got tonight. Pritchard was the player of the game for me tonight adding 21pts on 6-7 from 3 but outside of him, we got really solid minutes from Hauser (per usual) but even guys like Brissett and Stevens played well. JB Tatum and White were exceptional tonight. JB continues his streak of catching bodies at the rim every night and Tatum put together an efficient 30pts while D White continues to be one of the most consistent presences on the floor each night. This is a very good undermanned win against a really solid Magic team that was sitting in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference before this loss! The Celtics beat the Hawks 113-103 and improve to 13-4 on the season. This was a game with no Holiday or Porzingis but the Celtics handled this game beautifully. The defense was the star of the show in this one. We saw the Celtics get back to that smothering defense we saw early this season and it forced Trae Young to turn the ball over 5 times and we saw the Celtics score 26pts on the Hawks 16 turnovers. As good as the defense was we saw some excellent ball movement throughout and some very good individual performances. Tatum led the way on the offensive end having an incredible 4th quarter that kept the Celtics in the lead after all of the pushes from Atlanta. Horford and Queta played exceptionally well defensively and rebounded the ball very well. Derrick White led the team in assists with 11. The part that confuses me about this game was the start for Banton but even he played solid for the majority of this game. There isn't much to complain about in this game besides another subpar shooting night. The defense and ball movement looked great and offset the shooting. The impressive part of this win was that every time the Hawks made a run and got this lead into single digits, the Celtics responded and we need to see that continue! The Celtics absolutely demolished the Hornets from start to finish in this one. We saw all 5 starters play 23 minutes and they were nothing short of spectacular in those 23 minutes amassing an 81-54 lead before being subbed out midway through the third quarter. This game was dictated by the defense. They ended the game with 22 steals which is a franchise record and is absurd to think of but it led to a lot of very easy buckets. Every single starter had at least 1 steal with Tatum and Holiday leading the way with 3 steals each. On top of that we saw Porzingis have a nice block at the rim and then White added another 3 blocks! The entire starting group was just so much fun to watch. As fun as they were, the bench wasn't far off. We saw a lot of impressive performances throughout the bench in this one highlighted by Pritchard and Queta. While Pritchard had a poor shooting night, he ended the night with a team high 8ast and was running the show really well. Queta was the next guy that truly shined. In just 13 minutes, he added 12pts and 7reb with 5 of those being on the offensive end. The Celtics played 16 different guys tonight and every single one of them scored which was also awesome to see. It is a preseason game so you can't read into it too much but it was certainly a fun game to watch and a great way to end the preseason! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support
The Celtics beat the Knicks in their 4th preseason game . After nearly an entire week off, the Celtics played what felt like their normal starting lineup and rotations through most of this game. They did opt for the 2 guard lineup with Derrick White and Jrue Holiday sending Horford to the bench. Al Horford was the first guy off the bench and we saw Joe stick to an 8 man rotation most of the night with Pritchard and Hauser earning most of those minutes. This game was something special to watch. Every single person in the Celtics top 8 can stretch the floor so the spacing was incredible all night long which led to a preseason record 23 made 3-pointers. Tatum looked like he was in midseason form with 28pts 8reb and 4ast on 5-8 from 3 and his running mate JB was solid for most of it as well. He did have some turnovers but he also led the team in assists with 6. The JB Porzingis pick and roll game was elite tonight and something I am looking forward to this season. Porzingis may have been the most impressive in this game though adding 20pts and 8reb. I already talked about how impressive his pick and roll offense was in this one with JB but the pick and roll defense was also incredible. One thing that bummed me out about today's game was the fact that we didn't see any Svi or Queta minutes. I'm not surprised at all that we didn't see Gabriel who has been bad this preseason but Queta has shown signs of being serviceable and Svi has looked great. In a game where most of our regulars were out there, it would've been nice to see how/if guys like Svi or Queta would fit into a role. With that said, this was a fun game to watch on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support
The Celtics beat Philly once again 112-101. As I've said several times at this point, scores don't matter in preseason but you want to see how players perform so you can start to put together rotations for the regular season. The Celtics didn't play Tatum or Brown in this one but we did see some lineups with Al and Porzingis alongside White, Jrue and Hauser and that lineup played really well. Last year, if the Celtics put out a lineup without both Tatum and Brown, it was bad news but this lineup still had 5 guys who can shoot and two guys capable of scoring 30pts on any given night. The Celtics have so much versatility in top end talent this year so Joe will have a lot of flexibility as far as rotations go. We're 3 games into preseason and it seems like an absolute no brainer that Payton Pritchard is going to step into a serious rotational role this year. After 2 monster performances in the first two games, he came out tonight and put up another 17pts. The shooting wasn't as lights out as the first two games but he still looked super solid and could be right in that 7th man position. After two duds, Hauser did step up and shoot pretty well adding in 15pts on 4-9 from 3. While Hauser did perform, his biggest competition minutes wise is probably Svi Mykhailiuk and Svi didn't disappoint once again. He also added 15pts on 5-6 from the field and he can do something that Hauser cannot and that is put the ball on the floor and create for himself which is a huge asset. Outside of those 3 guys, there aren't a lot of options for consistent rotational minutes. There is a clear lack of front court depth and when you look at that position, we saw Kornet, Queta and Gabriel play today. Kornet played 15 minutes and was pretty useless. Queta saw 8 minutes and actually played significantly better than the last 2 games and didn't foul once which is a huge bonus. Gabriel also got 8 minutes in this one but once again, put up a dud. While there isn't a ton of depth at the front court, it is undeniable that there are a lot of shooters on this team which should make for a very fun season. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support
