TCB Podcast - Episode #744: On this sacrilegiously scattered episode of The Commercial Break, Bryan and Krissy pull back the incense-scented curtain on one of the most secretive events in the world: the Papal Conclave. From shadowy millionaire clubs in the U.S. to Italian paparazzi tracking celibate cardinals like they're on “The Real Housewives of Rome,” no holy stone is left unturned. What's the cost of influencing a pope? Apparently, about a billion bucks and a whisper in the right holy ear. Also: habeas pump-em, fake Latin phrases, and biting the Pope's ear (not literally, calm down). Then, Flau'Jae is left hung out to soak at the Met Gala. Thanks E! Dead on arrival. They roast family Christmases—forced bonding, random lunch guests, and Persian-ified traditions (right after Ollie accidentally calls Rojan Serbian—he's lucky to still be alive). Originally uploaded May 23rd, re-edited November 15th. Jeffrey Mosher welcomes Dotty Wilinski with First Impressions Boutique THEME: Dotty discusses First Impressions Boutique, a boutique that provides people with professional attire. Question: What is the First Impressions Boutique? ● The First Impressions Boutique is a public, professional closet for individuals in the Lansing Area in need of professional attire located at CAMW!'s Lansing American Job Center. ○ All clothing items are gently used and available free of charge. ● The boutique includes BOTH men's and women's clothing items, such as: ○ Suits. ○ Dresses. ○ Skirts. ○ Blouses. ○ Dress shirts. ○ Heels & dress shoes. ○ Jewelry. ● Clothing items in the boutique are generally used for: ○ Interviews. ○ Job & career fairs. ○ Networking events. ○ Other professional events. ● Question: What are the guidelines for individuals interested in donating items? ● As community members switch out their wardrobes for spring/summer, we encourage them to donate their interview-worthy clothing to the boutique. ● All clothing items must be business AND season-appropriate, clean and neatly folded or on a hanger. ● We encourage items to be five years old or less. ○ Individuals with vintage clothing items (10 years or older) should take them to a local vintage clothing store for resale. ● For those utilizing clothing from the boutique, a maximum of 3 outfits and 1 pair of shoes can be taken out once per month. ○ This allows for other individuals to have a wide selection of options when picking items. Question: Why is it important for career seekers to dress professionally during the interview process? And what are some tips for dressing for success? ● According to Pittsburg State University, “before the interview starts, you have already made an impression based on how you're dressed.” ○ Dressing professionally during an interview shows respect to the company and the interviewer. ○ If possible, research the company's dress code to understand better how they want to be represented. ○ Regardless of what you wear, feeling confident is most important so wear something that makes you feel your best. ● Tips for professional attire: ○ The night before the interview, lay out your outfit to ensure it isn't wrinkled or has any stains. ○ Make sure the clothes are clean. Question: How can community members donate items? ● First Impressions Boutique accepts donations and is always open to accepting them. ○ Donations are accepted at Capital Area Michigan Works! Monday and Thursday during business hours by appointment only. ● Individuals interested in donating items may contact the following to make an appointment: ○ Dotty Wilinski at: dwilinki@camw.net. ○ Brandi Pettway at: bpettway@camw.net. ● For additional resources, please contact Dotty Wilinski at: 517-492-5519. Question: What other steps can people take to prepare for a job interview? ● Begin by reviewing interview techniques and most importantly, practice! ● Before the interview: ○ Review the job description and specifications. ○ Review your resume and be prepared to discuss your relevant skills and experience. ○ Determine who your references are. ■ Current or past employers. ■ Coworker. ■ Teacher/professor. ● During the interview: ○ Take a breath and try to relax! ■ Think of the interview as a conversation, not an interrogation. ○ Listen to the questions carefully and give clear, concise, and thoughtful answers that include examples of your skills and/or short stories that demonstrate your qualifications. ○ Ask relevant questions about the job or the department. ○ End the interview by thanking the panel for their time and consideration.

Skirts below the knee. No jewelry, accessories, or makeup. Stockings in bed and no relaxing your hair. Does this sound familiar?   For those raised in the church like Alechi, Dani, and their guest - religious trauma healer Pamela Merritt, this conversation is for you. Tune in as Pamela discusses church hurt versus trauma, how the Black community embodies religion, and the often confusing emotions around sex and religion. And be sure to lean in for her advice for reimagining your faith and reconnecting to the divine outside the church.   KEY POINTS: Why is church membership dramatically dropping? Is the rise in community violence correlated with the lack of connection to spirituality?  Do we need the church to teach us accountability and structure? The positive benefits of the church  What trauma looks like and how it's perpetuated from the pulpit  How to nourish your relationship with the divine outside of the church   QUOTABLES: “For black church kids, we embody the music. We embody the feel of church. We embody the culture. We embody the community that Black church gives us. So when people come to me for religious trauma, consultations, and they are transitioning, what I'm helping them with is understanding that their religious space does not determine the structure that they have to their life.” - Pamela Merritt “Once you understand who you are and what your needs are and what your beliefs are, you can reimagine your connection with the divine in a different way.” - Pamela Merritt   GUEST RESOURCES: Pamela Merritt holysmokesmovement.com thefaithcommunity.org   PRODUCTS / RESOURCES: For more info, visit their website: triggeredafpodcast.com Like what you're hearing? This month on Whine & Wine, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ashley Maria and Lea-Ann Berst. This dynamic, daughter-mother duo is behind the short film, Super Human Anxiety, which will premiere on July 28, 2024, at LA Shorts, the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles. LA Shorts is a qualifying event for the Academy Awards, BAFTA, the Canadian Screen Awards, and the Goya Awards.  In other words…LA Shorts is kind of a big deal. Super Human Anxiety's focus is on Whitney–a teenager navigating strong emotions and how a teacher is able to teach Whitney how to redirect those strong emotions into superpowers. Anxiety is rising among teens and this impact film will serve as a much-needed tool for those affected, whether personally or as someone who simply wants to help.  Super Human Anxiety comes on the heels of Ashley Maria's documentary Pioneers in Skirts which dives into the roadblocks many girls and women encounter when chasing their aspirations. For Ashley Maria, both films are very personal and true to her experiences as an award-winning female in the film industry.  To reach as many people as possible, Super Human Anxiety will be offered at no cost to those who work closely with teens navigating mental health challenges. This episode was so interesting to record (so much so that my note-taking was weak). The bonus? We'll have a continuation of our conversation in our next episode when we do a deep dive into Pioneers in Skirts. ** Interested in following Ashley Maria's work? Good, you should be. If you follow the show (and you should), you may remember our holiday gift to you: Ask a Gen Z, an episode on which Kathy and I grilled our friend, Sydney, on all things that don't translate from generation to generation. It was so enlightening that we invited that Gen Z pal back to turn the tables on us. We absolutely should have expected Sydney to show ready to...well, okay, not really ready...but to show ready to wing it. Very on-brand for Gen Z. It was another great episode in which we proved how important it is for women to keep those cross-generational lines of communication open. Listen along as we discuss: Whether anything really changes from generation to generation. How the characters are the same in every friend circle, no matter the age group. Why it is cringe when the next generation does life differently than we might have. How the updates in gender roles have given women more options...including total independence. Rot. Yes. We revisit rot and why it is so difficult for Gen X to have quiet time. Our Nonsor this month is also a sneak peek to next month's episode in which we will chat with the producer/directors of the film Pioneers in Skirts. This is a must-see feature film that showcases how women and girls identify and address the obstacles their ambition encounters, and what we ALL can do about it. *** Can't get enough of us? It's officially summertime at Walt Disney World and that means you'll want to pay special attention to what you pack for a July Disney World vacation. What you need to know to be sure you cover all the bases. What to Pack and What to Wear to Walt Disney World in July July in Orlando and Walt Disney World is hot. It's the first of the two hottest months of the year for a Walt Disney World vacation. However, we vacation at Walt Disney World every year at this time and while it's hot, it's still a good time to visit. July Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World The weather in July at Walt Disney World is usually hot, but not necessarily overly humid. For 2024, the forecast for July is looking fairly consistent over the course of the month. You can expect daytime highs in the range of 87˚F to 95˚F (30˚C to 35˚C), with nighttime lows in the range of 65˚F to 77˚F (18˚C to 25˚C). These temperatures do not include the humidity, which can make it feel hotter. Heat, Rain and More to Consider When Packing for Walt Disney World While the second half of the month may be slightly wetter, it's very hard to accurately predict rain at Walt Disney World in the summer…other than to say the best defence is a good offence. This means that you should always consider that it will probably rain at some point in your trip, when you're packing for a July Walt Disney World vacation. On top of the summer afternoon and early evening showers that can build due to the heat, there is also the potential for tropical storms and active weather to become part of the mix.  As always, we recommend that you check the weather with a local weather station in Orlando the day before you arrive at Walt Disney World. This will give you the best idea of the type of weather you may get during your stay and can help with any last-minute packing decisions. In addition to the rain, heat can also be a factor for many Walt Disney World travelers in July. While much of North America has been sweltering under a heat dome already in 2024, Disney World in July is hot. However, this is often overblown by sensationalist articles and there are plenty of ways to keep your cool and find air conditioning. So be sure to give yourself and your family a break and take the time to cool off when the heat builds (including resort hotel pool time). It's Florida. It's July. It's going to be hot. No need to overthink it or dramatize it. Just plan for it. What to Pack for Walt Disney World in July July at Walt Disney World means you should pack your coolest, lightest and most quick-dry clothing for everyone in your group. Avoid black or dark colored t-shirts as they attract the heat of the sun. You should pack white and lighter weight clothing for sure along, with a good supply of sunscreen (and Gold Bond powder if you think you may need it). T-Shirts, tank tops and loose-fitting button-up shirts are all good items for tops. Shorts (lightweight and quick dry) are a top pick as well. Skirts, sundresses and bicycle shorts are also good items to pack. For the record, don't forget to pack the swimwear (not that you likely would).Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. Wait until you hear Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida rake Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over the coals yesterday for the double standard of his MIA adventure late last year versus his treatment of those he bounced from the military over the shot. It's priceless! Then, a lecture to the Air Force from a Lt. Colonel dressed as a woman about inclusivity. Meanwhile, the Husk shuffles around Brownsville Texas pretending to be concerned about the border while Trump goes to Eagle Pass on the same day where the illegals pour over. Former Trump White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley explains the messaging in the trips, John Fetterman's increasingly reasonable public statements, and the GOP response to next week's State of the Union. But we all know who's running the show. It's Obama - and it's chronicled better in the new book "Racism, Revenge, and Ruin: It's All Obama" than anywhere else. Stigall chats with author Scott McKay.-For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
