ForestCrow Guild Member Nekos Banned A video posted by streamer of Nekos running away at ridiculous speeds with a trade pack on resulted in a permaban. Archum tree removed from Mirage isle Bots were abusing Gold Farming, Scamming and RMT In any game where virtual currency can be used to buy stuff, there will always be people willing to bend or break the rules to get it.  Some will even pay others in real money to obtain virtual goods. Even in games where RMT is not built-in, there’s going to be RMT. EVE allows the purchase of characters via ISK, which in turn can be purchased with real money via plex.  They’re really good about finding and nuking illegal RMT. Archeage does not allow transfer of characters from one account to another, but does allow purchase of gold using real money via APEX.  So far we don’t know how well they are able to clean up illegal RMT, although we know they can track the gold. The White Order and Why Do People Hate Them People on our server, Kyrios, seem to really hate The White Order.  And Gank Bus.  And anyone big enough to be a problem. Sorcerer has always been a big RMT’er, but at least in ArcheAge, thats not against the rules if done using APEX. There’s a 9 page post on the forums where people are speculating Sorcerer’s morality.  People are actually saying that he infiltrated their guild to break it up from the inside, thus increasing his numbers.  There are also claims in this thread that he was banned from Lineage 2 for e-raping a character.  Sorcerer denies this.  It’s as if he’s a Mini-Mittani. I dug around a little bit and it looks like SharifTheWhite, clan leader of TheWhiteOrder in Lineage 2 was in fact banned for some reason. Some alleged that SharifTheWhite used bots, as did many in his clan.  In any case he seemed to be quite hated by a number of people.   There is a video on youtube from alpha of a character in The White Order guild named SharifTheWhite being kidnapped.  Does this mean that SharifTheWhite and Sorcerer are the same guy?  In the video Sharif was AFK fishing and someone on the video commented that AFK fishing is “…considered botting by most of the community”.  Is it really? We recently joined White Order on a fleet to kill Death Law (easterners) who were trying to kill the Kraken.  It was great fun.  Later that day we went with TWO to try to kill the Kraken, but the raid was derailed by Gank Bus and associates (our own faction). Sorcerer called out Gank Bus saying: “When you are able to kill the kraken, then come stop us. But to stop us, then not try yourselves serves no purpose. Then you just give it to the enemy faction. How can you not understand that lol” SpecialK of Gank Bus has this to say of White Order: “The fact that your claim to fame, and idea of a challenge is killing the Kraken makes me chuckle. You do realize that the extent of that fight is your GM rolling face left to right while you and the rest of the paraplegic lemmings pelt it with your tiny balls? Right?”  he continues to comment on how White Order members might proceed to remove parts of themselves from other parts of Sorcerer, but we won’t repeat that. Noah of Death Law expressed a different sentiment: “TWO - It was fun, every time we focus on the same thing, we have huge battle. I hope you guys enjoyed the battle as much as we did.  Thanks for the fun and hope to do this again sometime.” Porska, TWO Ambassador responded: “Very fun indeed Death Law. See you guys in 48 hours.” Interesting screenshot of discussion between Sorcerer and a Gank Bus member, Nisel. Sorcerer says: “Stealing packs benefits Gank Bus. Gank Bus does not wish to allow greens to turn in their packs. Gank Bus is essentially red.” At first it seems lame that our own faction would come to kill us, but I wonder if this would all make more sense from an EVE perspective of no real factions except player-based ones… Farm Carts and Turbos Go Psst Choo Choo Choo Turbo just got his farm cart… now we all have one! In the couple hours ive had it ive made 21 trade packs and delivered them to my intermediary farm. Buying Loot Off the AH   Lame sauce in WoW… who does that?  Just run heroics and go get your tokens! Standard in EVE… really, where else would you get it?  Keep doing sites until the right module drops?  Nah, just get that ISK and upgrade your stuff! Archeage… Apparently we’re buying the gear.. or at least the mats.   The way crafting works, you just keep upgrading the pieces, but at some point it gets random. Might want to start out buying a blue quality item on the AH. News The Rapture is Upon Us The rapture has occurred.  We got a system-wide message from a GM last night saying: “If you just saw someone get raptured, they had been using illicit 3rd part programs that we’ve been tracking.  They’ve received an email and we’re cleaning up their gains.  yes that means they’re banned, have a great day!” Today we saw that the GM’s were tracking the gold and reverting it: see screenshot. http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?96753-Gold-Being-Removed-A-Tale-of-Illicit-Gains-Coming-to-an-End http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?97048-Over-17-000-Botting-Hacking-or-Spamming-Accounts-Banned Cheaters Have Feelings Too Cheaters are getting banned and they’re not happy. Some are not being banned, even though they do hack… this is mostly Z-axis hacks where they just add 1000+ meters in altitude when gliding aka glide hack. We’re already seeing reports of land becoming available as accounts are nuked. Patron Status Interruptions The new patch disrupted Patron Status for a number of unlucky players.  Trion/XL in the process of fixing their Patron system, which has been plagued by problems since launch, managed to drop Patron patron status on thousands of accounts.  Some even reported that their credit cards were charged for an additional month of Patron, although Trion has stated this is not the case, and that any emails sent to players from Trion stating there was a charge for Patron are erroneous. From what we can tell, most or all of these players have had their status restored. Hartsman Responds to Allegations of Regrade Hacking See reddit post here. A Reddit user posted with snippets of screenshots alleging a player had used regrade hacks to accomplish two celestial regrades in a matter of minutes. Scott Hartsman, CEO of Trion, responded to the thread: 1) We pulled that gentleman’s logs immediately. What resulted in those messages were saved up after a ridiculous amount of prep work. What doesn’t get broadcast is the hundreds and hundreds of regrade attempts over previous days/weeks, and items being destroyed along the way. (and other set items being destroyed during that attempt..and also, after.) 2) The dude in the forum clip: We checked logs there. What he describes has not happened on any server. Much like a lot else on the internet, just true-sounding enough to where people treat it as fact. That said, we always like to assume there’s something to deal with until we can prove positively there isn’t, which is why we’ve also been pulling all regrades for everything since the beginning of time to check for anomalies as one full set of data. See your local auctioneer for a daily quest to get gift boxes What We’ve Been Doing Stalking and Killing Bots Over the weekend, me and Feagun the Spud Pirate went to go kill some bots in Cinderstone.  We had trouble killing them because right before they die, they would teleport hack to the respawn, heal up and then start botting again. We overcame this with saving all the burst DPS for the last 20% of life. We also found that once the bots had been reported, they would immediately start running away… Turns out they were making a beeline for Marianople to talk to the Judge and have the debuff removed! We watched a line of these jokers walking out of Cinderstone into Marionople, it was disgusting. Early this week, I spent an hour or so just killing bots over and over in Cinderstone.  It was especially useful to kill their mounts so they had to walk everywhere. Unfortunately I got a few hundred crime points and ended up in prison for a few of hours.  Shoutout to my cellmates Yasuna and Valkillmore (awesome name)! So there were a lot of bots out in Cinderstone before… what about after the Rapture? Well, after the Rapture, I went to Cinderstone to do some more bot killing, but there were no bots! Went to the Nuian starting point, watched new bots spawn in at a rate of a few every couple minutes.   Went a little further into the zone and found a bot questing.  With the help of a guildie, Xcamr, we tracked him as he leveled.   This bot was what I’d call an “optionally piloted vehicle”.  Sometimes he was obviously on auto-pilot walking from one place to another, while other times it appeared he was actively making decisions. He would actually teleport from one mob to another, then autopilot back to the questgiver.  While we saw him use his horse to get to a new area, we also saw him teleport to a new area as well.   Eventually he lost his connection or was kicked because the bot stopped moving and was killed by a mob. Thoughts on False-Positive Bannings In a post on the official forums we’re seeing a lot of people claiming to be victims of false positive bannings….  Not surprising, there are a lot of people claiming “I didn’t do anything…and still go banned” I guess we’ll see where that all comes out. I feel like the amount of people saying it, makes me think they might have a false positive issue… Hacking is broad Stu I’m betting they don’t have that many falses everyone on the Internet says they are innocent They were doing it off reports and data they were tracking because I think they know a lot if they are able to track gold several accounts down to find gold that was procured in a less than scrupulous manner they know people using outside programs to do stuff I’ve gotta side with Turbo on this one… I was just reading a guy defending his friend who was banned… The guy said all his friend did was use a macro to AFK in his house by jumping over and over in place running against a wall… well guess what dude, thats not allowed.  Deal with it. ONE MORE THING…. Tips and Tricks How Not to get Banned Keyboard have a macro utility?  Don’t use it.   Want to avoid AFK?  Don’t. In a guild with a bunch of cheaters? Leave. Intro The stuff of nightmares… Yep. News Bots Listen, and understand. Those bots are out there. They can’t be bargained with. They can’t be reasoned with. They don’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until they have your gold. So… The bots are getting bad.  Really Bad. How do you stop these bots?  Reddit user “hasbotted” on the Archeage subreddit, who admits to botting previously, has some ideas: 1) Make it harder to create accounts. Double captcha or something similar. 2) Make a quest to allow players to chat in global chats. The quest mob should be under water and move around periodically. Tie it into a “swimming” tutorial. (Most bots can not navigate water at all). 3) Since most of this is out of Trions control, hire GM’s after step 1 has been completed. The GM’s should teleport the bots to a Bot jail instead of banning them. As it is really easy to determine if your bot is DC’d from the game rather than running around off the mesh in jail somewhere. 4) Change up the mesh periodically. It only takes a small area for a bot to get stuck and jump up and down (depending on how its coded). They also generally struggle with stairs, especially stairs that circle around. Bot can almost never navigate water that has depth as well and will always stay on the top of it. Trade Pack Hackers   Early this week, news broke that groups of players using a teleport exploit had been un-banned.  The hackers had used an exploit to turn in hundreds of trade packs for vast sums of gold and were subsequently banned.  However, within days they had been unbanned by GM’s.  A large outrcy from the community prompted the following response from Trion: “What’s factual is that our policy with regards to hacking was miscommunicated earlier this week.” said community manager Scapes. He continued, “It is not our policy to apply an initial temporary ban for hacking. A permanent ban for hacking is our policy…”  In response, Trion is re-implementing bans on the relevant accounts and freezing their assets. Known Issues Roundup Trion is working on a few ‘known issues’: Intermittent latency Trion says they’ve tracked down the cause of intermittent latency spikes to the network interface card (NIC) that each server uses.  They’ve replaced the NIC’s and hope this fixes the problem. UI changes not saving Trion admits that some players are having trouble saving their UI, and they’re trying to get XL to fix it. Loyalty points can’t be spent without a credit balance Trion says that if you don’t have any credits, you can’t spend LP.  I never noticed since I always had a credit balance. What about you guys? Server Instability Experiencing a DDoS… Why does this keep happening to you, ArcheAge?  Are you being targeted specifically, or are other MMO’s just better prepared to handle the load? What is a DDoS and how does it cause these problems? DoS seeks to make a target use up so many resources servicing nonsensical requests that no resources are left to serve legitimate requests. Can target any part of the network or servers used in the game to cause denial of service… Login servers, world servers, routers, etc. Used to be a DoS required a smart attack that would utilize vastly more resources for the target than the attacker since a target’s resources would generally be much larger than an attacker. Enter the DDoS, where the asymmetry of the resource utilization doesn’t really matter, since the attacker now has vast resources.  These resources usually are a botnet.  These are computers infected with some worm or trojan that are now a part of network of zombies/bots controlled by a group seeking to attack various targets.  These botnets are usually used for spam, but more often are being used in distributed denial of service attacks. In addition to botnets, groups of attackers can combine each of their individually small sets of resources to form an adhoc attack force to put a lot of strain on a specific target. Protecting against DDoS attacks relies on keeping servers and infrastructure up-to-date and providing timely responses to attacks, usually in the form of automated defenses, giving a human time to develop a more targeted defense. Stormcaster Build Doomlord Build and Build Daggerspell is complicated.  So many combos.  Good news is I can kill one thing every 30 seconds and it can’t even use an ability. EXCEPT! I can’t chat on my alt! Bots are everywhere.  Reporting them is easy, but costs 25 labor.  If a GM gets them, you’ll get that labor back plus a 25 labor bonus. Accounts are being compromised by gold sellers to circumvent the draconian level 15 requirement, so be careful out there, and use an authenticator! Trion says XL is working on an automated system to block the spam so prevalent in “western games” New Cash Shop Items Summer has arrived..? I thought it was more of a Halloween season, but ok… Bikini’s and swimming trunks for everyone! Only $8.62 a set! How much does this stuff cost really, anyway? Vocation Tonic & Worker’s Compensation are both = $1.85 Mounts = $8.28 for land mount or $13.79 for a spiffy glider Pets = Loyalty Tokens or chance to drop from $2 chest Salon Certificate = $4.62 Gender Swap Certificate = $8.28 Virtual flip-flops cost almost as much as real ones. How does this compare to WoW? Pets = $10 Mounts = $25 Salon = Free Gender Swap = $15 Level 90 character boost = $60  OMGP2WWTFBBQ If you chug worker’s comp potions on two characters twice every day, you or someone else is paying Trion/XL over $7 a day, or $222 a month. Market The value of APEX is rising, now at 50g on AH1.  How does this compare to the buying power of a PLEX?  Is this just due to the bots? Stu? Hackshield Controversy -Players are upset, because Hackshield is rootkit like, and CEO Scott Hartsman has replied.  This is how you crash a market  Two-million Accounts Registered Trion has released that there are now over 2 million accounts registered. What does this mean?  2 million accounts… how many people? There are 21 servers… 95k accounts on each if equally distributed… which they aren’t of course. Road Blockades Trion says cart blockades are “emergent gameplay”.   One player says: “Is this just something Trion can’t fix or are too lazy to fix? This only happens in a zone you can’t attack said trolls…” Another player responds: “There are plenty of ways around it.  BTW we are totally srs RP guild, we are now RP'ing as a bridge gate.” Test alliance.  What’re those guys doing anyway? MP3 Download On this episode, we introduce ourselves, give a bit of background about Archeage, and talk about how headstart and launch have been, so far. Turbo Im the king of the iron!!!! because i dont know what to do with it so i have nearly 5 iron packs. Creepin on all the land, I think I know when everyone in the zone has their taxes due because I have a large farm and house to drop but I work a lot so all the land was gone way before i could get time to secure land in headstart.  Senile Crafted my clipper on the first day thanks to everyone’s illicit lumberjacking. Should have probably focused on getting land, because there is NO LAND. I teleported an AFKer to a PvP zone and killed him. Delivering packs from one spot to another very quickly for little reward, except for all the immense trolling by Terror. Decided to play Daggerspell at launch, got to 35, decided to go back melee because I like to move and the armor looks cool, went to Hasla and said “yeah, screw that”.  But Hasla was super cool.  Hundreds of players fighting in the open world, forming battle lines.  StupidGenius From Eve online, to Eve on Land. I was a Primeval (Archery/Shadowplay/Arrowmancy), but have moved to Ebonsong, so I could take Quickstep! Delivering lots of trade packs Crafted my Clipper for extra fun times on the open water! Also helped Turbo build his, which he then piloted over to the Eastern continent to get our Large Scarecrow farms, unfortunately, I haven’t found anywhere to place it! Senile and I also went and explored the Eastern Continent, started a few fights before getting destroyed by a roaming gang of 50s. We secured a number of memory tombs and had a blast checking out all the Eastern architecture. And saw that Hasla is craziness! This week I learned… (Tips and more, section): When using the auction house, you can shift left click to add the name of the item to the auction listing search. Making music in Archeage Leveling via crafting is freaking awesome. What’s the deal with all these currencies? APEX - is an in-game item that grants 1250 Credits when opened. Unlike regular Credit purchases, you can trade APEX to other players in ArcheAge, or sell them on the Auction House for in-game gold! Costs $10 RL cash.  Credits - Is the CASH Shop currency, it can be bought directly as credits, 750 - $5.00, 3250(3000+250 bonus) - $20, 8500(7500+1000 bonus) - $50.00, and 18500(15000+3500 bonus) for $100.  Gilda Stars - In game currency, NOT purchased using any RL currency. Must be earned by doing quests or intercontinental trade pack runs.  Loyalty points – As a Patron, get 5 per day you login. Can a few different things like tonics and other useful things that are also available on the market for Credits.  Gold/Silver/Copper - In game currency, similar to other MMOs. This is the one you will use the most for everything from Auction house purchases to buying crafting materials, etc. (No way to legally buy gold directly, see APEX above) News Holy gold spammers batman!
