Tread Perilously's fantasy month concludes with an episode of Grimm called "Silence of the Slams." In this episode, I spend time with New Perspectives on Henry Corbin, edited by Hadi Fakhoury, and reflect on why Corbin still feels so strangely alive right now.Corbin is difficult to place. He moves through Islamic philosophy, Suhrawardi, Shi'ism, Heidegger, Neoplatonism, angelology, psychoanalysis, esotericism, and the imaginal world, but what keeps pulling me in is his refusal to reduce spiritual reality to dogma, psychology, politics, or fantasy. He gives us a way to think about imagination not as escape, but as a form of perception.I also reflect on some of the chapters I'm most excited by, including Charles Stang on Corbin and Neoplatonism, Joan Copjec on Corbin, Lacan, and Kiarostami, Matthew Dillon on James Hillman's democratization of Corbin's imaginal thinking, and Wouter Hanegraaff's haunting portrait of Corbin's Freemasonry, neo-Templar spirituality, and personal longing for a hidden community of the spirit.This is less a summary of the whole book and more an invitation into Corbin as a provocation: What kind of world do we think we are living in? What kind of knowing have we allowed ourselves to trust? And does the soul still have access to images strong enough to guide it?

Evan explains Yuma's role as the institutional gateway to Bittensor through its validator, accelerator, and asset management products, and they explore why the concentration of AI in OpenAI and Anthropic is a systemic risk, and whether Bittensor's future extends beyond AI into a broader coordination engine for decentralised work. NOTABLE DISCUSSION POINTS: Bittensor has crossed from experimentation into shipping benchmark-competitive work at a fraction of centralized cost. Three recent proof points: Templar (subnet 3) completed the largest decentralized pre-training run of a 72B parameter model using only the network's token incentives. Ridges, an AI agent platform, is hitting 88–90% on software engineering benchmarks, on par with Claude-class agents at ~5x cheaper, built by a 3-to-5-person team under $10M of token emissions. Subnet owners, miners, and validators earn fees in the respective subnet token. Distribution has settled into a power law: the top ten subnets hold ~80% of market cap. This is the move that turned Bittensor from “decentralized AI protocol” into a financial hyperstructure with hundreds of tokenized work markets layered on top. The economics for subnet owners are genuinely unusual — hundreds of millions in annual incentives, fully subsidized labor, no fundraising. A subnet owner gets access to up to ~256 miners globally competing to satisfy their problem statement, with miner compensation paid by protocol emissions rather than the subnet owner. At current TAO prices, annual incentives across the network run into hundreds of millions; at higher prices, this approaches $1B/year up for grabs. No hiring, no benefits, no recruiting, the network runs as a continuous adversarial competition where validators rank miner outputs. This is the mechanical answer to “why would an AI researcher choose Bittensor over Silicon Valley”, and explains why researchers at Meta and Google reportedly mine Bittensor on nights and weekends, with top miners on subnets like Ridges earning ~$30,000/day. Over the years, Dr. Ward has conducted numerous investigations of ancient Egyptian architecture and symbolism, while also carrying out research into the many mysteries surrounding medieval Templarism. In 2006, Ward was recruited by the Knights Templar of Britannia, which is a modern Templar order affiliated with and has been acknowledged by the Vatican. With the help of his partner, Dr. Maria Nilsson, John has managed to track the use of particular symbols through the various dynasties and the geography of ancient Egypt leading all the way into the present, with similar threads even extending into parts of Western Europe. The symbols that John and Maria have come to recognize play a very important and integral role, based from their studies, regarding ancient Egyptian life. It is through these symbols that they are driven with the passion to continue their work, which has enabled them not only to develop a greater understanding of the various cultures they study, but also to utilize and acknowledge the importance and sanctity of the symbols. He is an accomplished writer, public speaker, illustrator, historian, designer, theologian and stand up philosopher. Of Scot/Welsh descent, he was raised in an agnostic Christian home, with a communistic Jewish grandfather and a Ukrainian Orthodox stepfather and was mentored by an old stonemason throughout his early teen years. He attended Bible College and entered his Masters of Divinity program in theological seminary in a very conservative, fundamentalist, evangelical Christian academic setting. He joined the United States Marine Corp and eventually entered the ministry as a youth pastor. All of this was to prep him for the next thirty years, which he spent in advertising and publishing. Scotty's first pieces of published artwork appeared on a plethora of dust jacket and cover designs for a small, Minneapolis‐based theological book publisher in the late 1970s and early 1980s.Scotty is the author and illustrator of The Rollicking Adventures of Tam O'Hare (2007), an illustrated novel originally intended for 8‐14‐year‐old readers, but which found its greater readership with the college‐aged audience and older. He has also authored for New Page Books, The Rise and Fall of the Nephilm (2012) and The Secret History of the Reptilians (2013).Scotty has written articles for TAPS ParaMagazine (the official publication of SyFy's Ghost Hunters) and went on to become their Editor‐In‐Chief during 2009 and 2010.He is a talented public speaker, and has been a featured lecturer with TAPS and Beyond Reality Events, as well as various other paranormal events between 2007 and 2012.He is father to five children, and lives with his wife and family in rural Wisconsin. This movie has everything—and we mean everything.The crew dives deep into what makes Ice Pirates such a hidden gem of '80s cinema. Despite its slashed budget (down from $20 million to $8 million, forcing a rewrite as a comedy), the film delivers genuine laughs, impressive practical effects, and surprisingly likeable characters. Robert Urich charms as the roguish lead, while Anjelica Huston and Ron Perlman steal scenes as memorable supporting pirates. The group marvels at the film's commitment to its bits—from adorable space prairie dogs to baby donkeys that pay off brilliantly in the finale. They also grapple with the movie's confusing villain structure (or lack thereof), casual '80s-era problematic moments, and a sex scene set to a slideshow called "Passion Storm" that somehow involves wasting precious water during coitus.What emerges is a consensus: Ice Pirates rates around five or six robots-shitting-themselves when watched alone, but jumps to a solid eight when experienced with friends.
