When Luke Bentham of The Dirty Nil thinks about lyrics that might sum up his mindset while writing the album, "Fuck Art," he thinks back to the song "One More and the Bill." There is a lyric in the song that reads: "Gonna smash my TV, and smash my phone. Leave politics alone. Go outside for a while."  That lyric is where his mind instantly wanders. It's because our society often gets so caught up in technology that we forget to appreciate some of the little things that are happening around us. Our phones and social media can take control of our lives. Basically Luke came to appreciate his life more since Covid happened. After being on a consistent grind for several years as the band began to grow more-and-more, and get places on even bigger shows, Luke finally had the opportunity to write songs without a true deadline. He also had the opportunity to play the guitar more and paint, a hobby that he is extremely passionate about. "Fuck Art" came out on New Years Day of 2021. It received just as much recognition as "Master Volume" did, if not more. The name of the record comes from a community painting class that Luke attended with his mother and sister. An older gentleman was struggling with a painting and asked for assistance. The teacher told him to circle back once he was close to finishing. That is when the gentleman said "fuck art" in front of the whole class. The album pulls from various different forms of music. Some of the genres that can appear on it ranges from jazz, to thrash, to pop, to heavy metal. Luke listens to it all. It helps him put together songs that he says are different from what the listeners have ever listened to. "Fuck Art" also has a fun story about the cover. It's a fictional dog by Max Loffler. The concept of the album art started with dark sketches but eventually led to Loffler calling Luke in the middle of the night saying it should be a smiling golden retriever with a blue sky.  This episode is loaded with cool stories. You can find a discussion about playing halftime for the Hamilton Tiger Cats. There is also a story about playing the AC/DC song "Riff Raff" at a skate park. As summer ends and the holiday season closes, a call comes to each of us. "Linger With Me, One More day."  Before we return to our business, (busyness), become absorbed in schedules, routines, plans and  responsibilities, we are being asked to take one more day and set it aside. We have so many claims upon our attention day after day. So many events and people appear, bearing all kinds of reports. It is difficult to sort out what's real and what isn't. What's important and what is not. But, now, Dedicate the Day. Make space in it for something new to be seen and heard. Make space in your life. Stop running around blindly.  We are being asked to listen to the call of the divine. For the touch of warmth, love, clarity. To connect with the One Within Who Knows the Way, who sees what truly Is. This call comes to each of in different ways, but ultimately it is always arising from deep within ourselves. So, let's all linger today with that which can and will always guide us well.

In this episode, I talk to Emily from the Little Eaters Club about how to bump up the number of foods that her son Elliot eats. He's always been a little bit of a picky eater, but recently it's gotten worse and he's now only eating about 4 foods! Don't worry though, even though he's only eating a few bites at each meal, his growth has been normal and he weighs about the same as his twin brother.  Listen in while I go through a mini assessment of what foods Elliot likes, and his eating habits. I find out that his favourite foods seem to be softer, sweeter, carbohydrates. So, we walk through a couple examples of food chaining to try with foods Emily knows that Elliot will eat. Rosi & Nate at DIF HQ in August 2019 Rosie Grace and Nate Hapke have been collaborating on film productions for a few years now.  Before their work together truly took off I had interviewed Nate about his film "One More" (SOFF 2017) but get this list... after that film came three Rosie & Nate collaborations; "She & Her" (FILA 2019) "To The Moon and Back" (FILA 2020) and "Ride Share" (SOFF 2020). We recorded this interview in August 2019, not long after "She & Her" played at FILA 2019.  Since Nate had told me his filmmaking story wayback in episode 69 of this podcast it was clearly time to hear Rosie's story. Meet Benjamin Watson. A first-round draft pick out of the University of Georgia in 2004, and a Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots in that rookie NFL season, Watson was a star tight end until retiring in 2020.   He had 44 touchdowns on the field but may be best known off the field for his courageous pro-life stance. He starred in Divided Hearts of America, a moving pro-life film he produced with Housing and Urban Development secretary Ben Carson, former Georgia state representative Alveda King and activist Abby Johnson. Watson and his wife, Kirsten, devote time and money to assist pregnancy resource centers and he spoke at the 2017 March for Life in Washington, D.C. The Watsons also formed the One More non-profit organization, a source of educational and enrichment opportunities through charitable initiatives and partnerships. Watson also works with the International Justice Mission to combat sex trafficking.   Abortion isn’t the only hot-button topic this former football player tackles. In 2015, his thoughts on racial tension in America made him an internet sensation, reaching more than 44 million people. That opened a door to his first book, Under Our Skin, which earned critical acclaim, and a second literary work, The New Dad's Playbook. “So many of the ills we see — whether it’s teen pregnancy, incarceration, poverty or self-esteem [issues] — so many of those things are tied to the lack of, or presence of, a male figure, and more importantly, a father in the home,” Watson says. “There is an imperative call for men. When men are involved, all those things I talked about before are flipped on their heads.” His positions often put him in a tug of war politically, but Watson welcomes the tension as long as he stands for truth. “The truth should rise above the tribe, rise above the trends,” he says. “That truth also, as we discover it, it may change our stances and we have to be OK with that.”
