A podcast hosted by two professional introverts discussing the fast-talking, pop culture-obsessed phenomenon that is Gilmore Girls.
Eleni Philippopoulos and Jeffrey Davies
We're back for Season 5! Could you imagine waiting a whole summer to watch see what happens after the biggest cliffhanger in Gilmore Girls history? Rory and Dean did something bad. Lorelai and Luke did something good. And Emily is channelling her inner prostitute. You can now subscribe to our Patreon to receive exclusive content. patreon.com/gilmoregirlspodcast.
We're not quite ready to embark on our season 5 journey so here's a bonus episode to tide you over. We're talking about queer characters, Dave Rygalski, wordle, diverse and lazy writers' rooms, and future Gilmore considerations.
We're joined by Insider's Samantha Grindell (@sam_grindell) to recap all things season 4!
We're joined by Insider's Samantha Grindell (@sam_grindell) to recap all things season 4!
It's been a long season but we made it! The will-they-won't-they storyline between Lorelai and Luke is finally here - but it did it live up to your expectations? Rory and Dean are doing something naughty, in more ways than one - but is Rory really to blame? Emily and Richard finally spill their secret - but do we really care?
Family dynamics are on full display in the penultimate episode of the season! Everyone just wants to brush everything under the rug and never talk about it again. Well, tough! Lorelai and Luke are getting their very special moment and it is perfection. Rory and Jess are having a less perfect moment, but the tears are rolling freely. Excuse us while we go scream into a pillow! Why, Amy!?
We hate (not really) to keep coming back to Jess, but it's kinda hard when ASP makes him such a big part of the episode. Lorelai's feeling down about her relationship's demise, while Luke is on the hunt for a relationship of his own. When Paris finally realizes that she's not about that Geezer Life, said geezer pulls her back in with his tricks and schemes. And who would have thought that two married kids with no income or plan to speak of would be having marital problems! Certainly not I!
We're confronting everyone this week! Jason is left stranded when Richard tries to protect his family, and Lorelai is put in a tough spot. Paris is slowly unraveling when it comes to Asher and we get to the bottom of their relationship and the power imbalance between them. Lane yells at New Lane and feels left behind.
A Friday Night Dinner scene with the most pointless conversation reveals something much deeper about the show and its relationships. A second dinner with old friends turns sour when Floyd decides to sue Richard and Jason. Carole, you're a shady bitch! You knew all along! What happens when an 18-year-old gets married right out of high school and you're still pining for your ex? Dean happens! Jeffrey's also teaching you about what soap operas and Amy Sherman-Palladino have in common.
It's Paris' trip and we're all just along for the ride! We're talking about all things Spring Break and how it's portrayed in American media. We are once again pleading with you to reconsider your Jason opinions because he really is the best boyfriend Lorelai has every had up until this point. And you asked us to talk about the latest episode of Scott Patterson's podcast and, against our better judgment, we're doing it.
The Original Lorelai Gilmore dies leaving behind her a path of destruction that has only been matched by a category 5 hurricane. How much does Emily Gilmore have to take!?
The brilliance of season 4 strikes again! This week's episode is all about Emily Gilmore and her obvious (to us) depression and feelings of inadequacy. That final scene in the episode is *chef's kiss!*. We're also taking a closer look at Dean, since the writers insist on shoving him down our throats, and Jeffrey makes a somewhat accurate analogy. Were you afforded sick days as a child? No? Neither were we! We're also sharing childhood stories that involve surgery.
Three Lorelais, three breakdowns - one more enjoyable than the other two. Gran is back and she's causing problems, like usual. You know who else is back? We don't even wanna say his name! We hate him! Sookie's showing us exactly why we have so many issues with her, the girls are missing each other and running to the men in their lives for comfort.
This is the best episode of the entire season - fight me! The writing, the character development, the plot, the dialogue... We can go on and on. Jess is causing turmoil all over - from the townspeople to his family members to Rory, who, according to Lorelai, is completely over the situation. If you look very closely, you can see the rift forming between Richard and Emily. In the final moments of the episode, we learn another interesting fact: Rory can't run.
Are you familiar with the films of Demi Moore? You're about to be! When that conversation is over, we're talking about all the storylines in this episode, and it's chaotic. Lane and Mrs. Kim are still at odds, as are Paris and Jamie. Luke's sister, Liz, is in town and we're learning more about her relationships with the men in her life. Trauma? Abuse? So much of it where Jess is concerned! He's clearly having some issues that we're going to discuss.
There are three story lines in this episode, but let's be honest, we only care about one of them. The Lane vs. Mrs. Kim battle 4 years in the making is finally gracing our screens and we have so many feelings! Because we also have to talk about those pesky Gilmore Girls, we're exploring Luke and Lorelai's friendship/communication issues and why people think that Rory believes she's the center of the universe.
Let's get something straight: friends don't just casually talk to each other about culs-de-sac. The "s" is silent. We're seeing a more human side of Michel, until he rolls baby Truman under the bed, and we're getting to know Jason, his traumatized dog, and his little quirks that lead us to a bedroom straight out of a magazine. Paris' new relationship has us questioning Rory's character and asking ourselves, "why do people cheat?"
It's the podcast that keeps on giving! No, we're not talking about THIS podcast. We're talking about Scott Patterson's podcast, I Am All In. After we analyze his thoughts, we move on to Yale, where some heterosexuals are doing something with a ball - no homo! And we meet Brennan the Frog Guy. There've been a lot of frogs, man.
There's a new podcast in town and we're positive it doesn't like us. Are the Gilmore Girls fatphobic? Is ASP fatphobic? We're discussing one of the most glaring instances of fat shaming from the show and talking about our own body issues. The marriage jug storyline may not be as useless as we once thought, Lorelai thinks Luke's life is her life but her life isn't Luke's life and Emily's feeling the life she always had slipping away.
It's the only episode to win a major television award and for good reason! The costumes are gorgeous. But are the performances as amazing? Kirk is doing some light reading to prepare for the role of a lifetime and the band is auditioning new guitarists (spoiler alert: not all of them are winners). Have you ever heard of a couple wanting to get divorced and date at the same time? No? Is that not a thing? Didn't think so.
Have you ever freaked out so badly that you paid someone 20$ for a tree? Neither have we. Have you ever gone to a party and said, "Hmm, you know what I need? A broccoli tart!" Neither have we.
The claws are out! Jeffrey and Eleni get into a heated debate when talking about Rory's college dating life. Lorelai is being her usual petty self and bringing an unsuspecting interior designer down with her. Sookie and Jackson decide on a baby name and it's terrible - but so is the alternative. Looking to watch other people's drama instead of creating your own? We've got a new show for you!
Think Ginny & Georgia is a knockoff version of Gilmore Girls? Think again! We're talking about why the two shows are nothing alike and how Netflix original shows have failed us. Back in Stars Hollow, Rory's home from college and for some reason wants to go to her ex's wedding? Oh, and her ex didn't even ask his future wife if that was okay! Oh! And! The groom is still in love with his ex! So. Much. Drama.
We're continuing our discussion of cancel and celebrity culture by bringing Britney Spears into the mix. Then, we're talking about Paris settling in at school, new characters (some better than others), the beginnings of Richard and Emily's rift, and the failed attempt to give Sookie a deeper story - which has us wondering about society's treatment of overweight women.
The Gilmore Girls are heading to Yale and running into familiar faces and meeting new ones. Could this be the best episode of Gilmore Girls ever? We discuss. We're also talking about an essay by Robin Silbergleid, who notes that if Lorelai was Black or poor, she wouldn't have been such a great role model in the early 2000s.
We're kicking season 4 off with what we do best - talking about something else for the first 20 minutes of the episode. Once we do get around to talking about episode 1, we've got lots to say about Lorelai being annoying, Luke being insignificant, Sookie and Jackson being trash and Rory growing up. Unfortunately, we also have to address a certain father/sperm donor and the real-life bullshit *he* has put people through. We also touch on cancel culture and accountability and analyzing shows you've never seen. We missed you!
We sat down with Grammy Award-winning writer and comedian, Mike DiCenzo. He's not a writer for Gilmore Girls, but he definitely should be after that viral Twitter thread about the show's characters during the pandemic. We talked about all things Gilmore, the enduring resonance of the series, Rory's disappointing character arc, and lots more. (@mikedicenzo on Twitter and Instagram).
We couldn't send you off this year without one more episode! More questions, more discussions, more shouting and so much more Gilmore Girls - and gays!
Election anxiety? You're not alone! We're here for you, though. We're addressing the toxic environment that is Instagram and how it hinders mental health. There are real people behind the podcasts. We have REAL emotions. It's the final episode of season 3 and it's jam-packed with content - which is why certain scenes got deleted. The Gilmore Girls have an optimistic future ahead of them and are trying to leave their bullshit in the past. Until next time!
This episode is all about Jess - but it's not all roses and sunshine. We're still pulling back Jess' layers while also talking about what could have been with his very own show, Windward Circle. Graduation is imminent and Rory is stressed. You know what's not helping? Emily and Lorelai acting like children.
It's the first time that this show has made us sad! Rory, Jess and Lane are all going through some shit and we feel for them. Lorelai needs to rethink the way she sees the people in her life because it's starting to get on our nerves. Fran's dead and Jeffrey being happy is not even the worst thing about the way people are reacting.
This week's episode is all about Jess! Kidding! But are we, though? We're diving into Jess' character development and solving the mystery of why so many people in the fandom are Team Jess. Lorelai and her insignificant romances are being especially annoying and we're talking about yet another plot hole. Honestly, these inconsistencies are driving us insane!
We're back from our brief hiatus! We're discussing the completely chaotic week that is Lorelai Gilmore's 35 - or 36th? - birthday. We're tackling gender stereotypes in real life and in pop culture and imagining what life would have been like for Jess and Rory had things gone according to our fantasies. Need something to read during the second lockdown? Goodreads has nothing on us!
Rory's got a tough decision to make even though she's already made it, right? Jess makes Employee of the Month, but at what cost? The Gilmore Girls are getting the side-eye from Lindsey and Nicole sparking the jealous woman debate all over again. The inn catches fire while the Poes are in town and can we all finally agree that The Raven is a trash poem? Nevermore!
In this very special episode of the podcast, we got to chat with the amazing Samantha Grindell, reporter for Insider and author of the article "Gilmore Girls" has a problem with Rory's sex life. We're talking about Rory's sexuality and the message the show sends to young girls and women and so much more!
Chris Evans' salacious picture starts a conversation about women and how we need to do better by them. Luke and Lorelai are involved in off-screen romances until the reappearance of Max shakes things up. Sookie finds out she's pregnant which brings out the worst in Jackson and Rory is a good friend to Paris when she has her breakdown. Sorry Paris, love Harvard.
On this week's episode, we're FINALLY spilling the tea on Scotty P. Then, we're going on a quick 1 mile run to the Stars Hollow Arena - wherever the hell that is - to discuss Rory and Jess' communication issues and Kelly Bishop's incredible skills.
We're answering more questions from the audience! Burnout, Jason, books, and Meghan McCain are just some of the topics we touch upon. We're discussing the meeting between Jess and Emily and how it really must suck to have everyone constantly judging you. Trust is a key part of this episode and Rory really needs to work on trusting Jess. Sex? Teenagers thinking about sex? Teenagers HAVING sex? For shame! Rory definitely wants it, but should Lorelai know that?
We're answering some of you questions because we missed interacting with you. Jess or Luke, Dean or Christopher, Ben Platt or Chris Evans. All will be revealed. Our discussions on the flashbacks quickly turn into speculations about the future. Is it possible for an abortion storyline to exist in the Gilmore Girls world? We both agree that if anyone can make it happen, it's Amy Sherman-Palladino. Remember kids! Your body, your choice!
Ever heard of Cousin Oliver Syndrome? It pops up (maybe) in Gilmore Girls. Emily is being sued and literally NO ONE is surprised. Rory and Lane's friendship has us looking to the future while Paris blows up her own friendship. Charlie Swan makes an appearance, becoming the show's most forgettable boyfriend.
Oh, did you come here for Gilmore Girls content? Tough! Eleni's sharing an emotional story about her late father and how Yanic Truesdale played a part in one of her happiest memories. Jeffrey's taking issue with people thinking they're the center of the universe and putting words in his mouth. We also end up talking about episode 10 of season 3 and how much we hate Gran.
The Emmy nominations have everyone freaking out about some alleged snubs. Spoiler: they're not snubs. We said what we said. The Gilmore Girls have BIG Thanksgiving plans and Lorelai's attitude leaves us wanting to give her a BIG smack. Kirk's got a cat and Little Edie makes her debut.
True to our word, Eleni is sharing the FRIENDS moment that drives her nuts and we're calling on people to do and be better because you can't erase the past. Richard tricks his granddaughter into a meeting at Yale, Lorelai's true nature comes out, and the fallout from the Dance Marathon finally brings Jess and Rory together
It's the episode we've all been waiting for! Who's ready to dance! There's so much drama among the townsfolk and we're LIVING. Special shout-out and congratulations to Pericles Philippopoulos, PhD!
Need a new workout during quarantine? Don't worry, Eleni's got you. You'll have sculpted buns in no time! Speaking of buns, we're talking about Sherri and her bun in the oven. Lorelai and Rory party with the gang and end up decorating Jess' car in what might be the best display of their iconic relationship.

Did you know that wearing a mask can save your life and the lives of others? No? Well, now, you do! We don't wanna hear any more excuses or see any more bare faces! This week we're talking about how Emily and Mrs. Kim are twinning when it comes to parenting. Lane and Rory each throw a fit, but one is more valid than the other, and Lorelai is apologizing, but for once, she doesn't have to.
This week we're diving into the minds of Kirk, Emily, Dean and Christopher. We're still mad at Christopher, but what else is new? It's also the introduction of Dave Rygalski and Lane's new musical story line. The early 2000s are a weird time for pop culture and not even Queen Amy Sherman-Palladino is immune to misogyny. The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, 70s sitcoms, college applications, tuition fees, and so much more!
