We are excited to feature a few clips from this year's Career Summit panels and a previous alumni conversation focusing on how extracurricular activities during their student experience helped alumni in their future careers. First is a quote from the Politics and Policy Alumni Panel at the Career Summit. Tara Corrigan '08 (History) talks about her experience as the Co-chair of Dance Marathon and how much she learned from her time managing such a big endeavor! The next quote is from the Research and Education Alumni Panel at the Career Summit, where Marc Tetel '86 (Biological Sciences) talks about his greatest teaching inspiration from where else: the Northwestern Karate club. Also from the Research and Education Alumni Panel, Machel Mills-Miles '98 (Cognitive Science) continues on the topic from the previous quote and delves into an impressive list of extracurricular activities from her time at Northwestern including the Asian-American Hunger Strike! Our last quote comes from a previous alumni conversation with Jeanne Sparrow '91, '15 MSC (Psychology) who happened to be the 2022 Weinberg College Convocation Speaker. In this clip, Jeanne talks about how she gained experience in radio by joining clubs and trying out new things at Northwestern. Jeanne gives great insight on how developing skills outside of the classroom can help you explore and find your career path! Recordings of the Career Summit will be uploaded at a later date. If you are interested in hearing more from Jeanne Sparrow, you can find the whole podcast episode here: https://weinberg.northwestern.edu/after-graduation/student-alumni-connections/podcast/index.html

In 2009, after her battle with invasive breast cancer, Jenn Rako asked Stephanie Viva if she would DJ a dance marathon for breast cancer, and without hesitation, she answered, "YES." This year will be in-person after the last two years of a virtual marathon! It will be the 12th but 10th in-person, and everyone is thrilled. Cape Cod Academy has been the host for the bulk of the Marathons, and the Pink Ribbon Club has done a fantastic job fundraising and giving this event a home. Jenn started the Women's Early Detection (WED) Fund in 2017, which is now funded by more than just the CCA Dance Marathon. Here is the Impact Statement for the WED Fund (Women's Early Detection), the beneficiary of each Cape Cod Academy Dance Marathon. You can see how the fund has done since its inception and last year. It is rewarding to benefit women through Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation with potentially life-saving diagnostic procedures not covered by insurance. We are looking forward to the event on April 30th from 3-7 PM. In addition to students from Cape Cod Academy, there will be dancers, and their families and friends from Beth Walsh Dance Centre, Dance Designs, Dance Factory Plymouth, Harper Dance Center, and Open Space Studio, Inc. We are open to the public. You can save 50% on the admission charge (pay only $10) if you pre-register. This can be done at Cape Cod Academy, through one of the attending dance studios, or by Venmo at Dance_Marathon_Cape_Cod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/stephanie7502/support

Brittany Sinitch is the Founder and CEO of the Unbreakable Organization and a former educator. From a young age, Brittany was fascinated with the world of education. She always enjoyed raising funds for charities, playing the role of “teacher” to her stuffed animals, and working many summers with kids. Brittany knew that she wanted to inspire students to use their voices one day through English. When she attended Florida State University in 2013, it felt natural to major in English Education. Upon graduation, she followed her heart and went back to her alma mater, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, to teach 9th grade English and Introduction to Drama. On February 14, 2018, Brittany survived a school shooting that devastated the small town of Parkland, Florida. Brittany knew that she needed help healing, which brought her to therapy with a psychologist. When recalling the traumatic moments of that day, her therapist asked her how she felt while with her students in that moment. Brittany looked at her therapist and said “unbreakable,” without thinking twice. Since then, she has found power through the word unbreakable, and uses this word as a mantra to help in her own healing.Brittany has since vowed to help others who feel broken, hurt, or lost find what makes them unbreakable. Brittany is now running the Unbreakable Organization full time in hopes of giving back to schools, communities, and individuals. Brittany is also an advisor for a Dance Marathon program that she started at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, as well as a speaker, writer, and YouTuber. She loves eating copious amounts of guacamole, watching New Girl, taking long walks around Target, and connecting with others. https://www.theunbreakableorg.com/Follow Brittany Sinitch on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/fivefootoneteacher/Follow Unbreakable Org on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/theunbreakableorg/Like on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/theunbreakableorgFollow Host Evan Golden on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/goldentv/Like Talk Golden to Me on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/TalkGoldenToMePodcast/
