In the M&A world, corporate spin-offs are a well-used tactic at board level. For corporate treasurers, this can mean creating a fresh treasury framework for the new entity in a relatively short period of time. But by becoming involved in such a project from the outset, and being open to collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, they can steer their department – and business at large – towards a successful implementation.
To support a successful business carve-out, the treasury team at Daimler Truck had to understand which functions were essential from the outset and what could be refined once the new business had shifted into top gear.
When Solvay announced it was splitting off its specialty chemicals business into the new firm Syensqo, its treasury hatched an ambitious plan to duplicate the function and have two independent treasury frameworks operating at full steam under one roof well before the go-live date.
In light of Guy Fawkes Day last week, the NZ First Party has launched a member's bill that aims to ban the public sale and use of fireworks in the country. Party Leader, Winston Peters, in announcing the member's bill, says the reason for this proposed move stems from its possibility to cause fires, and its harm to pets. News and Editorial Director and Monday Wire Host Joel spoke to Marcelo Rodriguez Ferrere, an Associate Law Professor at the University of Auckland, about the member's bill, and the impact fireworks season has on animals, both companion and non-companion. They also touched on why we have seen so many member's bills come from the party, in light of an opinion piece by Spinoff journalist Joel MacManus.
I learned a lot in this conversation with Alison Mau about her life and journey and what has led to the setting up of Tika. Curiousity guided the questions and we talk about a lot of things starting with her childhood, growing up in Melbourne, experiences at primary school that shaped her and led to a resilient attitude, the special bond she feels with horses and why that is so, becoming a journalist back in the analogue days before lots of computers or dictaphons, and her presenting on TV and how she ended up in New Zealand. Then we focus in on the setting up of Tika which is a charity that empowers people to come forward to report past sexual harm and how it works, what it means and the future potential. And an encouragment for us all: "Happiness for me is not in money, possessions or anything like that - it is, how can I be useful..." The Spinoff editor-at-large Toby Manhire joins Duncan Greive this week to discuss a very unfortunate case of journalistic mistaken identity. Former Herald reporter Bevan Hurley had an explosive exclusive with former Bill de Blasio, in which the former New York mayor critiqued Zohran Mamdani, the current mayoral candidate he had previously strongly endorsed. Or so Hurley thought – he had in fact been talking to a wine importer by the name of Bill DeBlasio, who holds very different views to his near-namesake. It blew up into an international media storm, which the pair break down, along with a confession from Toby's past at the Guardian. Also, the succession situations at Morning Report and TVNZ's 6pm bulletin – what are the risks and opportunities for those two big dogs of our news media? And finally, a word on Juggernaut II – the sequel to our hit 2024 podcast which launches next week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Liam Rātana, editor of The Spinoff Ātea, joins Duncan Greive on The Fold to discuss a piece he wrote last week, about some seismic changes to the Māori media landscape. Two iconic shows, Te Karere and The Hui, one of which has been on the air for more than 40 years, were turned down for funding in the most recent Te Māngai Pāho round. The decision was in part financially driven – there's a fiscal cliff coming – but also a recognition that these shows, which have their origins in linear and still feel built around that medium's preferences, are not necessarily where the majority of Māori find their news. Rātana explains the background, and where Māori media is going – potentially presaging moves mainstream news funders will have to make in years to come. Learn more about your ad choices. Join Erik and Tage this week as they are joined by Sean and Olivia as they discuss the times that cast members have sprinkled some pixie dust for them or another guest, the themed resort hotels they would make based on IP, the Disney sidekicks they believe deserve their own spinoff, and which animatronics they would like see become characters who walk around the parks. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Question 1: If you've been to a Disney theme park you've probably seen some Disney “Magic.” Tell us of a time a cast member has” Sprinkled some pixie dust”, for you, or another guest. Question 2: If Disney gave you unlimited budget to create a new themed resort hotel, what would be your concept and which IP would you base it on? Question 3: Which Disney sidekick deserves their own spinoff movie? Question 4: Which animatronic should be able to become a real boy? As in, which animatronic in any park would you most like to become an actual character we can see in the parks walking around? Bonus Question: James is coming after Disneyland and DCA with his bulldozer. What is ONE attraction at each park that he would find you chained to in protest?
The similarity between a gel diffusion system to create crystals for semiconductors and the way crystals form in teeth and bones led to the development of a spinoff toothpaste that restores teeth.
I have to be honest with you, because it's been a little while since I sat in the home economics class in Tuakau College - so there is a fair chance that my experience is a little out of date by about 20 years and I might just make a fool of myself with what I'm about to say next. But I do not understand the angst about Erica Stanford dropping home economics from the NCEA curriculum. There is an opinion piece in The Spinoff today, and it's arguing against Erica Stanford removing this 'vital' subject from our school subject list because it's a 'moral decision,' - because, quote, 'everyone deserves to know what's in their food, how it affects their health, and how to make choices that support their overall well-being.' Now, I tend to agree with that. You should know what's going on in your food. But from what I understand, home ec is still being taught and will still be taught to years 9 and 10 in some form or another, that's not going to change. And if you cannot learn in the space of 2 years that you need to eat your fruit and your vegetables and your meat and maybe avoid the processed stuff and the sugar, then I don't have much hope that you're ever gonna learn this stuff. And what's more, we are already one of the most obese nations on this planet. So home economics hasn't done very much for us in helping us to keep ourselves healthy in the last 114 years that it's been around, has it? But also, and I think this is the most important thing, come on - did you actually learn anything in home ec? Libby, who works with us, reckons that in one class, she spent the entire class just learning how to make a sandwich. I remember setting a pot of oil on fire and and then running around with it and being taught how to put the fire out. So I suppose that's semi-helpful, but I also learned how to cut carrots, which, frankly, I should have known anyway. All of this stuff, you can learn at home. Now, home economics strikes me as one of those subjects that the country would be better off dropping altogether and replacing with another session on maths. Don't you agree? Welcome back to Gen V Season 2 — the gritty, high-stakes spinoff of The Boys universe that follows the next generation of Supes at Godolkin University. As our heroes juggle alliances, secrets, and moral compromises, “Hell Week” marks the penultimate turning point before the season finale. In Episode 7, “Hell Week,” tensions reach a boiling point. Hazing rules are invoked as the Office of Student Conduct warns, “students should never be called demeaning names, forced to wear humiliating clothes, or treated like any animal.” Meanwhile, major revelations unravel: Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater — known for The New Adventures of Old Christine, Succession) is revealed to be just a puppet; the real power lies with Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater — Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber, The SpongeBob Movie), burning through Cipher's body to exert control. This twist recontextualizes his manipulations across the season. Follow Coy Jandreau: Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@coyjandreau?l... RHOSLC brought it once again in an episode that, if the whole season is like this, we are… sat. No offense to Lisa and Meredith who both seem to be having a hard season. Who knew Bronwyn had it in her? In RHOC news, Tamra is hurt over Emily and Heather's recent comments about her. Eddie makes a rare appearance on RHOC. Gretchen has a new FU for Tamra. Speaking of Tamra, her and Scheana blame each other for everything. Kenya Moore is called out by fans. Gia Giudice demands a spin off for Mama Tre in a move that seemly confirms Tre's RHONJ exit. Last, but certainly not least, Bravo Executives separate Teresa and Melissa in a move no one saw coming. @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

With all of Teresa's reconciliation talk over the past few weeks, one things is crystal clear, not only is she not returning to RHONJ, but she will not be getting a spin off as originally thought by many. Tamra says she is going to quit the OC, again, but this time it comes in the form of an ultimatum to producers. Mike Shouhed settles assault lawsuit with ex Paulina. Terry Dubrow saves a life and wants a free meal. Margaret and Dolores are in a prime position to become fast frenemies / enemies when RHONJ resumes filming without Teresa. Now that her book tour has wound down and her application for The Valley is still under serious consideration, Scheana has taken a moment out of her busy schedule to focus on what has probably been her ultimate goal all along, an audition for RHOC. Scheana has rage texted Teddi and Tamra over the Roofie lie claiming all roads lead back to Tamra for the origins of this she said / she said which has driven Katie off the show. Now it seems that is only the beginning of Tamra's issues. “In The City” has dropped its first official teaser confirming that Bravo has, in fact, green lit a Summer House spin off in NYC. Kyle, Amanda and many other familiar faces are being discussed / slated to appear in this spin off which is filming…now. Last, but not least, rumors, and nastiness, arise regarding a huge RHOM reunion bombshell, Marysol plays victim, Larsa and Lisa go lower and much more as RHOM nears an end of season which has left many asking whether there will be a much needed cast change when new season mojitos are handed out later this year. @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: RELIEFBAND - reliefband.com (Use Code VELVET For 20% Off Plus Free Shipping on the Original Anti-Nausea Wristband) THEREALREAL - therealreal.com/velvetrope (Get $25 Off At the Best Place To Shop Authenticated Luxury Bags, Clothing, Watches & more) HUNGRYROOT - hungryroot.com/VELVET (Use Code VELVET For 40% Off Your First Box & a Free Item In Every Box For Life Of The Worlds Best Meal Delivery Service) INDEED - indeed.com/velvet (Seventy Five Dollar $75 Sponsored Job Credit To Get Your Jobs More Visibility) JUANES - (Check Out Juanes' New Song “Cuando Estamos Tu y Yo”) ADVERTISING INQUIRIES - Please contact David@advertising-execs.com MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Pop 3: Summer House is officially getting a spin-off, and the Bravo teaser has fans buzzing about who will make the jump from the Hamptons to city life. DWTS also kicked off its new season, and the talent is through the roof — Robert Irwin's jive was the standout of the night, while Whitney Leavitt & Mark Ballas set the bar high. Even surprising pairs like Hilaria Baldwin & Gleb proved they can cha-cha with the best of them. Meanwhile, a judge ruled Taylor Swift won't be dragged into Blake Lively's case against Justin Baldoni, keeping her out of the messy headlines he keeps trying to create. Deep Dive: We have to talk about Taylor Frankie Paul becoming the next Bachelorette. From her cryptic posts to Alex Cooper's teasing, this casting was inevitable, and exactly what the franchise needs to shake things up. She's a star with built-in drama, unapologetic authenticity, and zero fear of messy moments, which might be the breath of fresh air Bachelor Nation has been craving. Plus, with her ex Dakota already poking fun and fans theorizing he could pop up mid-season, the chaos potential is off the charts. Final Thoughts: RHOSLC is back, and the season 6 premiere wasted no time throwing the ladies in an RV for instant drama. Brittani is clawing for screen time, Lisa's absence looms over everything, and Whitney opens up about her business struggles. It was a decent start, but some women are already trying way too hard to “act like Housewives.” *Shop MPT Merch* ► https://shop.hurrdatmedia.com/collections/morgans-pop-talks *Listen to the podcast* ► https://hurrdatmedia.com/network/show/morgans-pop-talks/ *Join my Patreon* for exclusive minisodes each week! ► http://www.patreon.com/morganspoptalks for exclusive minisodes each week! *Subscribe to my weekly newsletter* for reminders, important links, and additional surprises! ► https://www.morganptalks.com/ *About Morgan's Pop Talks* Welcome to Morgan's Pop Talks – your weekly VIP pass into the world of reality TV and pop culture! Reports claim Insomniac's long-awaited Wolverine game is finally set to launch in 2026, followed by a Venom spin-off in the Spider-Man universe. Could Venom arrive as a PlayStation 6 exclusive? And after the tragic passing of Tony Todd, will Insomniac reuse his unused dialogue, recast, or risk AI? We also break down the latest rumors that a new PlayStation State of Play is scheduled for next week, with Wolverine almost certain to make an appearance. What other reveals could Sony have in store — Judas, Little Devil Inside, or even a God of War Metroidvania? On top of that, Sony has reaffirmed its mission to remain the leader in single-player storytelling, with Astro Bot, Ghost of Yotei, Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, and more showcasing the strength of PlayStation's first-party lineup. If you're excited for Wolverine, curious about the Venom spin-off, or waiting for the next big State of Play, this is an episode you won't want to miss.

On this week's show, Steve, Dana, and Julia crack open the latest edition of The Paper, a new mockumentary set in the The Office universe. They debate whether the tried and true sitcom formula still delivers and assess its portrayal of local journalism. Next, they share their feelings about two couples who are terrible at sharing theirs in Splitsville, the marriage farce created and starring Kyle Marvin and Michael Angelo Covino with Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona. Finally, the heterofatalist discourse continues in their conversation with Slate music critic Carl Wilson about Man's Best Friend, the latest release from the spritely, cheeky, and controversy-stirring Sabrina Carpenter. In an exclusive Slate Plus bonus episode, the panel takes up the business of cultural criticism in a discussion inspired by the recent New York Magazine piece “Do Media Organizations Even Want Cultural Criticism.” Email us your thoughts at culturefest@slate.com.
