It's no secret that I've had a love/hate/obsessional relationship with Mortification over the years, however no matter the ups and downs they have remained one of my all time favorite bands since I was in highschool. Join me on the first leg of Mortification's journey into becoming a band that would go on to change Christian Metal forever, from the band's early day's as Lightforce all the way through Post Momentary Affliction. Living Sacrifice has had one of the largest impacts on Christian Metal out of any band that I can think of. Originating in the late 1980's and early 1990's Living Sacrifice released a trilogy of albums that explored the extremity of Thrash and Death Metal and they would go on to influence countless bands as well as set the band up to transition into one of the most popular metalcore bands in the Christian music scene as well as metal at large. If the first album you've ever heard from the band is Reborn. You might be curious to hear what the band was up to before that. For more episodes of DFT'S Dungeon visithttps://www.gabbermedia.comIf you feel so compelled I do have a Patreon. I've been a fan of Christian Metal for well over 20 years, and while I would still consider myself a strong supporter of the scene, over the years there have been certain frustrations and disappointments that have come along with it. In this episode I want to boil those frustrations down into 5 main things that get on my nerves. I have tried to be as intentional as possible not to outright name names because my intention isn't to attack anyone, but just to provide an honest critique of the pitfalls of the Christian Music Industry. For more episodes of DFT'S Dungeon visithttps://www.gabbermedia.comIf you feel so compelled I do have a Patreon. I wouldn't describe myself as a religious person. However there is no denying that I have a past that is deeply rooted in Christian music culture. Its the reason I got into music in the first place. I owe a lot to the genre, so in this video I wanted to dig into why I love Christian bands so much even to this day. In 1998 the band Embodyment released an album called Embrace the Eternal that expertly combined Death Metal and early Metalcore, and then they suddenly changed their entire sound seemingly overnight. This episode explores the history of this band and tries to uncover exactly what it was that brought on such a massive change for the band after only one album. Linkin Park's debut album changed everything for Nu Metal and Hard Rock in the early 2000's. By introducing harder elements in a more digestible and family friendly package, Linkin Park was able to establish a much larger install base of fans than their contemporaries at the time. In this video I share my memories of hearing Linkin Park for the first time, go over every song on Hybrid Theory, and discuss the impact that Linkin Park had on teenagers in the year 2000 and beyond.Follow DFT'S DungeonPatreon: https://bit.ly/3UlV4puSubstack: https://dftdungeon.substack.comFacebook: https://bit.ly/3qWDApMTwitter: https://bit.ly/3DDa50fInstagram: https://bit.ly/3UioAwoYoutube: https://bit.ly/3LmRqYmSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3RVbOCnLast.FM: https://bit.ly/3qKGVVmEmail: dftdungeon@gmail.comJoin the DFT Dungeon Discord Server!https://discord.gg/ADVqFYpT6qhttps://www.dftdungeon.com

The Crimson Corridor is a record that makes me ask myself uncomfortable questions about the meaning of existence and the nature of the universe we live in. It delves deep into topics that most people would like to avoid and yet I find myself constantly drawn to those questions due to the compelling way they are presented on this album. Some albums teach us what it means to be cool and gives us something to emulate, but there are some albums that are content with just meeting us where we are at a certain time in our lives. The Mechanical Hand by Horse the Band is a misunderstood record. You might think it's just a light hearted and fun record that evokes childhood nostalgia, and you'd be right, but there is so much under the surface of these familiar sounds that you may miss the first time you hear it. I did. However in this episode I attempt to explain the depth of this record through relating it to the same struggles I have faced in my own life. Sometimes its easy to get caught up on our own ambition. To put so much pride and time into something that ultimately will just end up breaking down and decaying in the end. No album has illustrated that concept to me more times than Wrongdoers by Norma Jean.
