Welcome back to The I-5 Corridor's Traffic Report. After a two-week break, Tyson and Justin are back for the start of fall camp, and this week they catch up on media days, early-season hype and whether the Ducks and Beavers should keep doing the weird September thing. Then, it's on to Ichiro. The Mariners' legend is officially a Hall of Famer, but where does he rank in the pantheon of best Mariners of all time? Tue (Matt) Le-Quang is a Data Reporter at VnExpress.net. He spent time with us today analysing and mapping the upgrade of Vietnam's administrative boundaries. Quoting from his publication VnExpress (Google Translate): "After the reorganization of 34 provinces and cities, the number of commune-level administrative units in Vietnam decreased by 67%, from 10,035 to 3,321 units. Of which, Hanoi merged the most units with a reduction rate of more than 77%."Tue has made a web app about this here. There has been a bit of debate over it the past half decade, such as this 2020 piece from VnExpress. Most recent English coverage I can find is this. The country used to have 63 provinces, now there will be 28 with 6 extra cities as their own areas, for a total of 34. A pertinent quote from that article speaks of large savings for the taxpayer: "This restructuring is projected to reduce the workforce by approximately 250,000 people, including 130,000 officials, civil servants, and public employees, as well as 120,000 part-time workers at the commune level. The reform is expected to save more than VND190 trillion (US$7.3 billion) in the 2026–2030 period."This brings up the work of Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson in Why Nations Fail and The Narrow Corridor.Work for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics along with Simon Johnson. These books are riveting. They describe, as the title of the first says, how destruction of, or failure to maintain, institutions causes a nation to fail. The second book, The Narrow Corridor, is intended - in Daron's words from the second video above - "…to provide a framework that is applicable across ages and across countries for thinking about what supports prosperity, what supports democracy and what supports liberty. The key idea ... is what supports robust participation from the people and we need the state to play a pro liberty, pro prosperity role. In particular to create inclusive markets which have the right legal system, provide equality of opportunity, the right regulations against the powerful actors."It is so inspiring to see their work quoted by a citizen of, and reporter from, Vietnam in the midst of state action to navigate the country into The Narrow Corridor. Thank you to Tue for giving us the privilege of this report and for all the diligence providing insight to the readers of VnExpress through geospatial apps. Clearly he is a talent, and a credit to the education system of Vietnam.

In this special episode of Florida Uncut, we're bringing you our first-ever live recording, captured this past weekend at the Wild Space Gallery in St. Pete. The conversation centers around the behind-the-scenes efforts that brought the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation's 2024 expedition film to life. Every two years, the Foundation leads a week-long journey, on foot, bike, and water, through a region of the Corridor that needs greater public awareness and protection. This year's expedition took place in Southwest Florida, tracing a route from the Western Everglades to the Caloosahatchee River, an infamously challenging crossing point for the endangered Florida Panther. Our panel features several team members (Ethan Coyle, Alex Freeze, and Joe Whalen) who helped make the expedition possible. You'll hear untold stories from the trail, hilarious moments of gear failure, and candid reflections on the logistics, challenges, and triumphs that didn't make it into the final film.If you're near St. Pete, be sure to check out the companion gallery exhibit, “Blazing the Trail: From Strand to Slough,” on display at the Wild Space Gallery through August 30. The exhibit dives deeper into the people, process, and wild beauty behind the making of this year's expedition film. I want to give an enormous thank you to Ethan, Alex, and Joe for the amazing conversation. I love working with them. I want to also especially thank Leslie Elsasser, Noel Smith, Kat Duval, and Tony Palms for opening up the Wild Space Gallery to tell these stories and for the opportunity to host our first live podcast. I am so thankful and still buzzing from the experience! Wild Space Gallery on Google Maps. Don't miss it! Be sure to come check out the exhibit by August 30th. The gallery is open Wed-Sat 2-6pm. Also, mark you calendars for the film premiere of our expedition on September 18th at the Tampa Theater.

It's the Fourth, but allow us to take you back to Halloween of 2009 on today's episode of The I-5 Corridor Traffic Report's Replayables. It's a Saturday night. After a dismal start to the Chip Kelly era in Boise, the Ducks have rattled off six straight wins to climb to No. 10 in the nation with No. 4 USC and its seven consecutive Pac-10 titles in town. It's not the strongest team of the Pete Carrol era, but it's still USC talent and the Trojans feature the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, Matt Barkley, at quarterback. An early-season shocker to Washington gave the Trojans a limp, but they've won four in a row coming into Eugene and might just be a win against these upstart Ducks away from reestablishing the status quo and rejoining the title hunt. Sure, the Ducks are averaging 38 points per game during their win streak, but there's no way that fast-paced, gimmicky offense they're running can hold up against the athletes the Trojans are bringing to town. Right? Tyson and Justin look back on today's episode, plus thoughts on Oregon's bounce-back week on the recruiting trail. We're still a little more than two months away from the start of the 2025 college football season, but we've hit the part of the offseason where folks are feeling a bit celebratory. For Oregon, that means it's Hall of Fame season. Nationally, former Oregon running back Jonathan Stewart has been selected to be on the 2025 National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Locally, Oregon has released its own list of honorees, with Marcus Mariota and Hroniss Grasu leading the class of athletes to be inducted into the Oregon Hall of Fame this fall. And while in this week's episode of The I-5 Corridor's Traffic Report, Tyson wants to focus in on which players from the last 10 years have a shot to be enshrined as an Oregon immortal, Justin wanted to focus on a coach. Mark Helfrich, to be specific. Oh yeah, it's a take. And you'll have to listen to the episode to find out just how well it's supported. Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to Attendance Bias. I am your host Brian Weinstein. We are just past the mid-point of this Attendance Bias mini-series, in which we preview each venue Phish will play during their upcoming summer 2025 tour. We are coming off our visit to the Palmetto State for the North Charleston Coliseum, and today's episode is all about a venue that feels like it's been around forever in the Phish world: the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA. I always group Philadelphia in with Merriweather Post, SPAC, and Jones Beach as part of the I-95 Corridor tour circuit, and while there is truth to that, there is a richer Phish history at The Mann than most venues. Today, I am joined by my friends Tom and Stephanie who have long-standing roots to Philadelphia and Tom especially has a long history with the Mann. While there may not be too much for northeast Phish fans to learn about Philadelphia, we do our best to offer recommendations, tips and tricks, and wallow in some good old nostalgia about past Phish shows in Philadelphia, as is our want here on Attendance Bias. So get pumped for July 15 and 16, as Tom, Stephanie, and I take a long look at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia.

It's about activating your Velocity Point, walking through the fire, and fracturing the timeline that's kept you looping for lifetimes. In this episode, I break down what the Soul Corridor really is, how to know you're inside one, and why your triggers, body symptoms, and relationship dynamics aren't chaos—they're coordinates. If you've been feeling like something massive is happening beneath the surface, this is your confirmation:The Soul Corridor is open. The beauty of baseball and softball is that, when you're good, you get to enjoy it for quite a while. The Oregon baseball team played 58 regular-season games. The Oregon softball team played 64 games. The folly of those two sports is that one can be that good, for that many games, and still watch it end in the blink of an eye. For the Ducks baseball team, it was two-and-out at the Eugene Regional. For the softball team, which reached the Women's College World Series for the first time in seven years, the Ducks lasted three games in Oklahoma before coming home. On this week's Traffic Report, Tyson and Justin put the two programs' seasons into context, marvel at the year Cal Raleigh is having for the Mariners and share a surprising change of opinion on one of Oregon's most famous tourist traps. The holiday made it out the group chat… but honestly, maybe it should've stayed there!
It's Founder Friday! And this one is quite special. Nori and Tin Burmudez founded Corridor Flow in the Fall of 2019 with community and relationship as their central mission. I was lucky enough to work with them in their beginning stages and for the last almost six years, their commitment to their vision have shown itself in their deeply rooted and instantly resonant presence in their Lomita community. Nori comes from the world of healthcare and nursing, and Tin from the world of engineering and construction. Mix this together with their heart for service and passion for coffee as a vehicle to inspire gathering, and you have all the right components to build what is the perfect combination of function and hospitality in Corridor Flow. Today we explore their 6 year journey cultivating their business and growing themselves in the process. Using coffee, radical hospitality, and a steady focus on serving people, Corridor Flow has embodied so many of the things that make a coffee shop more than just a sum of its parts. Something that opens doors for many possibilities through he flow of people and coffee. Please enjoy this wonderful Founder Friday episode! Richard Wesley will not be an Oregon Duck. But don't expect his commitment video to disappear anytime soon. You may remember Wesley as the 5-star EDGE player who signaled his commitment to Oregon earlier this month by jumping into a pool with a shirtless Dan Lanning. As it turns out, Lanning taking the shirt off his back doesn't mean anything in today's college football world, as Wesley decommitted from the Ducks earlier this week. Are the Ducks left in the wake of a cannonball gone wrong? Tyson and Justin discuss this, along with postseason baseball and softball, on today's episode of The I-5 Corridor's Traffic Report. On this week's episode of The I-5 Corridor's Traffic Report, I needed a little help from Justin Myers. See, it's 2025, which means there's a lot of “Best 25 [insert noun] of the first 25 years of the century” lists going around. Notably, over at The Athletic they've put together lists of the top 25 coaches, players and college football teams of the 2000s. They have Chip Kelly at No. 24. They have Marcus Mariota at No. 15. And, well, I wanted to go a little deeper. So in the spirit of ‘25, I'm putting together The I-5 Corridor's list of the best 25 Oregon football players since 2000. While the list will come out next week, I needed Justin's help to figure out where to start. There's an area southeast of Lake Merritt that's lined with abandoned buildings, boarded up storefronts, vacant lots, and decrepit warehouses. The neighborhoods here, Clinton and San Antonio, are some of Oakland's oldest. Although there are also beautiful Victorian houses, long-established churches, and several thriving immigrant communities, including a stretch of Vietnamese establishments known as Little Saigon, this area has suffered from disinvestment and high crime rates for decades – why? Answering that question requires a trip through more than a century of Oakland history – from the Gold Rush up through the Urban Renewal era and beyond. Exploring this story illuminates not only the problems of these neighborhoods, but helps explain the rise and fall of entire cities. “The leading edge of development follows the wealthiest residents,” according to Mitchell Schwarzer, the author of “Hella Town: Oakland's History of Development and Disruption.” In this episode, Schwarzer unpacks that diagnosis, and what it means for older neighborhoods left to crumble as investors chase new frontiers. This conversation was inspired by Schwarzer's work with the San Antonio Station Alliance, a campaign advocating for the construction of a BART station and transit village.
