This is the nineteenth episode of The Podgoblin's Hat, with Nina and Dave. You can find it on it's own feed wherever you get your podcasts. This story's title promises so much in terms of dragon content! In actuality there is hardly any dragon in this story, but what there is, is very good. Nina likes this story a lot anyway, Dave's more on the fence. How understandable to want a small pet of your own, who would be attached just to you! How impossible to guarantee this outcome in any way, especially when said small pet is actually a wild thing and an endangered species to boot! We revisit some familiar themes: love triangles, the impossibility of having a secret, and the unswerving aim of a Little My throwing a pointed jab. Our question for What Would Snufkin do was adapted from an AITA post on reddit Our Spirits of the Moomins are Everything Is Alive and The Mab. Our Spirit of the Podgoblin's Hat is The Shrieking Shack.
It's Christian Rock Summer! This is the beginning of a month long exploration of the fringes of Christian music with Josh Christianson joining Josiah as co-host. We're talking "not a Christian band, just Christians in a band." We're talking Christianity being more of a relationship than a religion. On today's episode, James (@cigarette_liker) joins Josh and Josiah to discuss the hardcore/metalcore/mathcore band, The Chariot, and its charismatic front man, Josh Scogin. They discuss the band's discography, their notorious live shows, what made them unique at the time, and whether or not there is a political or religious philosophy behind it all.NOTE: I recorded the Patreon shout outs for this episode in June, so I missed a new person. It's the end of another year so we're picking our favorite albums of 2023. It's been an amazing year for music, so narrowing down our lists was an absolute nightmare. How do we move ourselves – individually and collectively – from the broken Trauma Culture of our times, to the Initiation Culture that will allow us to step forward, healed and whole?Alnoor Ladha and Lynn Murphy have co-authored a book: Post-Capitalist Philanthropy: Healing Wealth in the Time of Collapse.Vandana Shiva says of it, “Ladha and Murphy walk us through the deep logics of neoliberalism, the foundations of globalisation and the ideology of corporate free trade … the authors dissect philanthrocapitalism. And they indicate the possibilities of reclaiming the true economies of the gift, of solidarity, of caring and sharing. For now, I invite you to please read on as if Life depends on it.”On every level, this is a remarkable work, grounded in the understanding that we hold our realities in our bodies, that we have been born into a trauma culture, even as we yearn for the our birthright and our legacy as inheritors of initiation cultures. This is one of several genuinely transformative concepts that Lynn and Alnoor bring to the table: the intellectual capacity to explore the crisis of the moment – coupled with absolute grounded, experiential knowing that we are spiritual beings first, that we are mystical beings, and that if we can find the humility and the willingness to change, if we can bring ourselves to the web of life full open, asking for help, the Animate Earth responds.Biographies: Lynn Murphy is a strategic advisor for foundations and NGOs working in the geopolitical South. She was a senior fellow and program officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation where she focused on international education and global development. She resigned as a”‘conscientious objector” to neocolonial philanthropy. She holds an MA and PhD in international comparative education from Stanford University. She is also a certified Laban/Bartenieff movement analyst.Alnoor Ladha is an activist, journalist, political strategist and community organiser. From 2012 to 2019 he was the co-founder and executive director of the global activist collective The Rules. He is currently the Council Chair for Culture Hack Labs. He holds an MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics. Part of the UK's holy trinity of Shoegaze, along with RIDE and MBV, all of whom made strong comebacks after twenty-years absences, with new albums and tours. Sadly this second comeback album is nowhere near the perfection of the self-titled 2017 effort and is sadly too slight in almost every direction.

In this week's episode of Jams & Tea NOW, we break down a new album from legacy punk veteran Jeff Rosenstock, HELLMODE, as well as the challenge of the aging punk rocker in the 2020s, and the fallout of his decision to reveal just how much of a cut major venues take out of his merch earnings. We also talk the pretty but understated new record from Slowdive, EVERYTHING IS ALIVE, as well as the new Rolling Stones single ANGRY and a number of albums we love celebrating momentous anniversaries this month. To cap it all off, we veer away from the music world to talk about the heavily hyped new games Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3, and resident gaming expert Morgan delivers the verdict on whether they live up to expectation. As broadcast September 4, 2023 with plenty of new vibes for your Monday growl. Well folks, we're back at it with a new season and we have a lot of catchup with our lost seasons, but for now it's time to start a new era of consistency. We went straight into the new joints, with an incredible new joint from Mannequin Pussy to fire off the rousing opening salvo, and we also had a new album from Slowdive to highlight along with albums announced from Helena Deland and Beirut. Big pop vibes in part 3 from Nicki Minaj, Maneskin, and Imagine Dragons, and of course, we are always serving it local with new Korean tunes in part 4.Tracklist (st:rt)Part I (00:00)Mannequin Pussy – I Got HeavenBliss Samsa – Higher FrequencyBenet – No AlarmBriston Maroney – Sunshine Slowdive – alifeSlowdive – skin in the gamePart II (30:03)Helena Deland – Bright Green Vibrant GrayBeirut – So Many Plans Lauren Mayberry – Are You Awake?Andrew Wyatt – Maybe You Know Me NowLAUNDRY DAY feat Matilda Marigolds – My LifeFKJ & Masego – Tadow (Ext vers) Part III (62:29)Griff – Vertigo Nicki Minaj – Last Time I Saw YouRoyal Blood – Shiner In The DarkManeskin – HONEY (ARE YOU COMING?)Jorja Smith – Falling or flyingWilderado – In Between Imagine Dragons – Children of the Sky Part IV (92:32)Joyce Yoo – Memories YeonJeong – About TimeHojean – 9 to 5Bosudongcooler – Betty Wedance – Can You Feel Around YouTroye Sivan feat Pink Pantheress & Hyunjin – RushGINJO feat SOLE – Different Hearts
«everything is alive» ist unser neues Sounds! This week Im diving head first into The Chariot's debut album Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is dead, and Nothing is bleeding. In the spirit of the way that album was recorded and mixed, I decided to perform the episode in one single take, mess ups and all, let me know how I did as I dig into the history of my fandom of The Chariot and what I think of Josh Scogins abstract style of lyric composition.Follow DFT'S DungeonPatreon: https://bit.ly/3UlV4puFacebook: https://bit.ly/3LnPleQTwitter: https://bit.ly/3DDa50fInstagram: https://bit.ly/3UioAwoYoutube: https://bit.ly/3LmRqYmSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3RVbOCnLast.FM: https://bit.ly/3qKGVVmEmail: dftdungeon@gmail.comJoin the DFT Dungeon Discord Server!https://discord.gg/ADVqFYpT6qhttps://www.dftdungeon.com
Life is not a script. It is a conversation. Life is going to life. How are you connected to it? Cultural anthropologist and culture keeper Dr. Erika Powell shares when she learned to pray from a Lakota elder. In a meadow in South Dakota, the elder shared: everything is alive and everything is listening to you. Before this moment, she asked whose inbox was getting my prayers. When she connected to the life all around her, everything changed. She says, your purpose is to be human and to have this human experience. To connect to our shared humanity, the light and dark. The artist Arlene Kim Suda shares this theme of prayer through both her drawing of the rhododendron juxtaposed with three triangles. She also read a piece from the poem Ash Wednesday by T.S. Eliot, which includes the beautiful paradox: "Teach us to care and not to care / Teach us to sit still." How do we build compassion and be non-attached? All of this is an invitation to be less judgemental. We all want to feel connected to something bigger than ourselves. We appreciate your support and help so we can bloom! Please take a moment to give us 5-stars and share a review. You can always email us at hello@gratitudeblooming.com. What does your pillow do all day when you're not sleeping on it? How does it keep itself busy? Does it like its pillowcase outfit? Hi. This week we sat down and did what we always do, got high, and asked each other stupid questions. This time we played a new game and realized pretty quickly that we were too dumb and may have made a mistake. Oh well, try not to kill us too hard. Anyway, see y'all next week for more TTL!
Special Announcement Before I get to the episode, we/I want to take a moment to address the June 24th Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe versus Wade. This decision stripped away the legal right to have a safe and legal abortion. Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health and independence of all Americans. This decision could also lead to the loss of other rights. To learn more about what you can do to help, go to podvoices.help. In this episode, I am reviewing a guilty pleasure and that podcast is Everything Is Alive. Once again, I am not sure how I landed on this podcast, but I am so glad I did. I really need to track that and do an episode on that topic. On today's episode of Saints Preserve Us, we are joined by Ian Chillag, host and producer of the incredible podcast Everything is Alive, to ponder the mysteries of the Holy Rosary. We learn the history and religious significance of these inanimate objects and ask Ian who he would cast to play a Rosary if one were ever to appear as a guest on his show. We also learn about Ian's brief time in a Catholic middle school and how there he learned first and foremost about the worst possible ways to die. We also wrap up the month of October by checking in on some Saints we may have missed earlier in the month including Pelagia the Harlot, the brothers Crispin and Crispian (who were name-checked in Shakespeare's Henry V), patron of lost causes Saint Jude Thaddeus, and the possible foot fetishist Saint Hedwig of Silesia. Guest Alexander Williams, creator of Aura Rainwater, shares with us the inspiration of Dr. Masaru Emoto and his work with Water as a Living Consciousness in the the scientific world. The energy of water is capable of more than we ever imagined. The power human thoughts, sounds and intentions has to strengthen and disempower is one of the greatest discoveries of our time.
This week we're diving into the debut album from the band Pomegranates, Everything Is Alive! Other topics include when the drums sound GOOD, when the lyrics are NOT online, and how to record video on zoom. We basically just vibed out to this record while recording this ep and for that? We're sorry lol.

An introspective can of soda.A pillow with aspirations.A ten-dollar bill who questions its worth. If you thought everyday objects were inanimate, Ian Chillag wants you to think again. The host and creator of Everything is Alive, sits and chats with everyday objects that you otherwise might never have thought much about. His interviews are funny, intimate and surprisingly, well, human.
"Everything is Alive" ist ein Podcast voller Kreativität und Humor. Zugleich rührend, aber auch etwas irrsinnig - eine doch sehr ungewöhnliche Kombination. Vielleicht sind Felix und Konstanze genau deshalb so begeistern davon, aber hört selbst!

“Everything is alive, and we are all relatives.” Native Hawaiian philosopher Manulani Aluli Meyer says this is what Indigenous peoples around the world all know, though each understands it in their own way. In today’s episode we explore “aloha ‘āina,” the Native Hawaiian tradition of “loving land”—where we both love and care for the land and the land loves us back. When everything is alive and we’re all relatives, it’s not about what belongs to us but rather about where we belong. When we know we’re related to all who live nearby, the heart opens. We feel moved to care for this community so it can continue to nourish all who come after. Included: a thought experiment in opening your heart to the land-community where you live.
It’s September 6th. On this day Star Trek debuted. We are discussing Star Trek because of a convoluted theory that if the actress Jeri Ryan had never been cast on the series Star Trek: Voyager, Barack Obama would never have become president. Jody and Niki are joined by Ian Chillag, host of Everything Is Alive, and fan of this convoluted theory. Ian walks us through it and we discuss how much luck plays in political trajectories. I'm thrilled to share the teaser for the upcoming season of Raw Material from SFMOMA, which I have the privilege of guest hosting. The season is a curated "mixtape" of art and art-adjacence podcasts (including episodes from 99% Invisible, Everything Is Alive, Recording Artists, and others, including a bonus new episode of The Lonely Palette), all of which explore the idea of The Beholder's Share: why an audience is so necessary for an artwork to become its most fully-realized self. This is an urgent-enough question on its own, but during a pandemic, when museums are closed, it becomes vital. So let's bring these objects to life together - not in person, but through our headphones. The series drops August 4th. Subscribe to Raw Material wherever you get your podcasts. Have you ever stopped to think about what a balloon, a bar of soap, a subway seat, or a can of cola would have to say? On this podcast, they each have a voice and they're ready to spill their truths. From PRX and Radiotopia, Everything is Alive is an unscripted interview series in which each guest is an inanimate object. No two items' experiences are the same as they each have a life story and their own unique perspective on the world at large. With company like this, it's no wonder the show won the 2019 Webby Award for Best Interview/Talk Show. This week, we're sharing one of our fave episodes from last spring. Joining us is Ian Chillag – producer, writer and host of Everything Is Alive. As our guest curator, he brings us his favourite outside-the-box podcasts. "There's a flavour that is McDonald's, and I feel like that sometimes when I'm listening to podcasts. There's a flavour that is 'podcasts' ." - Ian Chillag
This is an exciting and intriguing interview with the highly hated plastic straw.
You may not realize it, but when you send a spit-filled tube off to a lab that’s going to analyze your DNA, you’re linking the most unique identifier possible (your gene sequence) to other sensitive personal information, like your name, home address, and credit card number. How can you know that the DNA lab will properly decouple your genetic data from your personal information? Well, you just have to trust them. Obviously, that arrangement isn’t ideal, which is why a new startup called Nebula is using robust digital privacy protocols—encrypted email, VPNs, and blockchain technology—to guard its customers’ information. WIRED reporter Megan Molteni joins us this week to talk about genetic sequencing, how personal data is handled, and what this startup is doing to change the best practices within the industry. Also, there’s a new Facebook Portal in the world, Amazon is cracking down on shady shopping apps, and we’ll tell you why you should wait to upgrade to iOS 13. Show Notes: Read Megan’s story about Nebula’s use of blockchain technology here. Tom Simonite tells us about the new Facebook Portal. Lauren Goode on iOS 13’s many bugs. Louise Matsakis on Amazon’s app crackdown. Recommendations: Lauren recommends the new Netflix series Unbelievable. Megan recommends the true-crime podcast In the Dark. Mike recommends the meta-interview show Everything Is Alive. Arielle recommends the book, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. Follow Megan Molteni on Twitter @meganmolteni. We checked in the with early 2000s cringe-comedy Napoleon Dynamite. We had mixed feelings about it the first time around but did it hold up well or not at all? Mentioned in this episode This episode is sponsored by the new book The Devil's Guide to Managing Difficult People by Robyn Bennis. It's a funny novel about the devil, who is just as I always expected, an old lady. Check it out now! I mentioned angrily that not everything can be alive, but Leigh Ann disagrees. She recommends the podcast Everything Is Alive from Radiotopia. I also asked if you could beat The Price Is Right and Steve emailed to say yes, yes you can. This episode features three hilarious spin offs of "Everything Is Alive," a podcast featuring interviews with inanimate objects. This episode tells the story of an under-appreciated football stadium, a police car that's seen too much, and a lonely shovel. The student composers are: Alec Connell, Robbie Christensen, and Michael Jordan.

For our last #InVinoFab interview episode of 2018, that's episode no. 26, we are thrilled to chat with a couple of brilliant ladies who are care-fronting mental illness and more in higher ed with The Committed Project. We had a candid conversation with Kristen Abell (@Kristen_Abell) & Sue Caulfield (@_SueCaulfield) about one of their biggest passion projects that is very near and dear to both of them - mental health and wellness. We talk about creativity, side projects, finding a therapists, how to be a resource, care for others and self-care, and more. I appreciate the candor, realness, and conversation... always. I think y'all will enjoy the chat we had with these two rad ladies.Back in 2015, Kristen & Sue edited the book with #suedles to illustrate a compilation of stories about mental illness in student affairs in a book called, Committed: The Stories of Mental Illness in Student Affairs. Kristen helped with narrating experiences and Sue created drawings (a.k.a. #suedles) that relate to each personal story from the higher education practitioners who shared about their mental illness. From this book project, their work with mental health awareness led to developing the blog series into The Committed Project (https://thecommittedproject.org/), an organization that advocates for and supports higher ed professionals experiencing mental illness. For the past few years, @CommittedPrjct has been sharing stories - mostly firsthand accounts - from other professionals in higher ed who experience mental illness. You are not alone in this, please read the shared stories from your peers in higher ed on The Committed Project Blog: http://thecommittedproject.org/resources/blog/ Additional Committed Project Resources to check out on the website: Twitter: https://twitter.com/CommittedPrjct Educational Toolkit http://thecommittedproject.org/toolkit/Resources http://thecommittedproject.org/resources/Podcast: http://thecommittedproject.org/resources/the-committed-podcast/ Kristen Abell is one of the two co-founders of The Committed Project and is the Executive Director of Awareness and Advocacy. She serves as the Assistant Director of Digital Services at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has been in higher ed for a looooong time, in a variety of roles. She loves to write, and has written extensively about her experiences with mental illness - both online and for the book she will one day publish (she swears!). Writer Batya Ungar-Sargon joins us to talk about her piece in The Forward, which unpacks a debates within the diverse American Jewish community about public toleration for the president following the mass shooting in Pittsburgh. Then, the “Everything is Alive” podcast interviews inanimate objects, personifying them and posing existential questions that make for a unique and smart package with an unexpectedly moving edge. To tell us more, podcast creator and host Ian Chillag joins us in the studio.

If the everyday objects that surround us could speak, then what would they say? That's the whimsical central idea of 'Everything Is Alive', a show that brings inanimate objects to life. The chatty, charming Maeve is a lamp post living in Brooklyn (and a big Singing In The Rain fan!).
On The Gist, if Trump weren’t so repulsive, would we judge his murky dealings a little more kindly? And we don’t much think about the inanimate objects in our lives, never considering the rich inner life of the lamppost, the can of Coke, or the humble pillow. But Ian Chillag knows they have stories to tell, and he gets them to speak out in his new podcast Everything Is Alive. In the Spiel, Mike talks to the guest hosts who will rule The Gist all next week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Meet Louis, a can of generic cola. For this special bonus episode of The Truth, we’re introducing you not only to an inanimate object, but a brand new Radiotopia show that features interviews with said objects. It fun and informative and fresh and smart, and we hope you love it as much as we do.

Louis is a can of generic cola. He's been on the shelf a long while, so he's had some time to think. Go2 is a store brand. "People call it a knockoff," says Louis. "I've been called the best of the worst. Bottom-shelf. We can describe it as bottom-shelf. I'm at peace with that." Everything is Alive is an unscripted interview show with host Ian Chillag in which all the subjects are inanimate objects. In each episode, a different thing tells us its life story -- and everything it says is true. Subscribe to Everything is Alive on Apple Podcasts and RadioPublic

In "Everything is Alive," I approach the intelligent, innocent idea of our youth that there is life in the inanimate, and I look at some of Wordsworth's lines from the famous poem "Tintern Abbey."
