We talk about the creative process, the evolution of their sound, and what ultimately led to the band stepping away from the spotlight. I'm incredibly excited about today's episode. I had the privilege to interview one of my favorite producers/artists, Mr. Aaron Sprinkle. Aaron is a singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer. He's done dozens of records that have been put out by Tooth & Nail Records (Anberlin, The Almost, Emery, Ivoryline, Dead Poetic, Copeland, MxPx, Hyland, etc.) as well as other classic albums (Acceptance, Every Avenue, New Found Glory, Pedro The Lion, Story of the Year, etc.) The list really does go on and on. Aaron shared some of his experiences making some of these records. He talks about the early days of Tooth & Nail and how he became acquainted with them as one of their most prolific producers. We talk about making the record "Phantoms" by Acceptance and how unique that time period was. We discuss the song-writing and creative prowess associated with the band Anberlin, and we even talk about social media. Aaron plans to release a new solo record in the near future, and we talk about how the landscape of the music industry has changed and how this will affect the new release. It was an honor being able to speak with Aaron, he really is one of my favorite producers and has been for two decades now. I've spent countless hours listening to his solo work as well as all of the bands he's worked with over the years. I really hope you enjoy this conversation as we peak behind the hood of what it's like to be a producer behind the scenes as well as in the spotlight. Enjoy! Chapter 21 Dead Poetic is one of the bands that was discovered at cornerstone, and due to their hard work and dedication as kids, stepped into just the right place at just the right time. The groundwork had been laid by the pioneers of the scene, the infrastructure was in place, and Tooth & Nail, partnered with EMI was at the top of the mountain. Killer production, promotion, and exposure were no problem at all, and the specific sound that Dead Poetic had been developing was about to explode. The band would achieve success, sales, and opportunities that would dwarf most of the artists that preceded them. And yet, front man Brandon Rike gave it all up. Wolves at the Gate is band that very much continues the tradition and follows in the sonic footsteps of Solid State Records and the era of Underoath, Beloved, Dead Poetic, and As Cities Burn; none of whom are currently making this particular style of music. The approach is being deep, heavy, brutal singing and screaming with a strong spiritual component that gives weight to the music. Steve Cobucci is the guitarist, writer, singer, and lyricist for the band along with screamer Ben Summers. Steve is a terrific musician and person whose ministry-driven approach to his art makes him fit nicely in the Tooth & Nail/Solid State world. https://labeledpodcast.com/ Support Labeled on Patreon Join Labeled on Facebook SONGS YOU HEARD ON THIS EPISODE: The Blood Brothers "Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon" mewithoutYou "January 1979" Dead Poetic "New Medicines" As Cities Burn "Thus from My Lips, By Yours, My Sin is Purged" Wolves at the Gate "A Voice in the Violence" Wolves at the Gate "Evil are the Kings" Wolves at the Gate "Eclipse" MORE FROM TOOTH & NAIL: * Labeled: Music From The Podcast: smarturl.it/labeledplaylist * DISCOVER IT: New Tracks from T&N Records: smarturl.it/TNNDiscover * This Is Solid State: New Tracks from Solid State Records: https://spoti.fi/2CUCsaH * Tooth & Nail Store (LABELED Patreon members get 20% off everything): tnn.lnk.to/store

Greetings Jabronis! This week Jay has an existential meltdown, decides he doesn't know what life is anymore, and moves to Tibet. Some of that is true. Then Jed fills us in on the deplorable conditions in Alabama, as well as Switzerland's policy on Guinea Pigs. In the best part of the show, Jesse Sprinkle graciously gave his time to come talk about his time being a 16 year old touring the world, band-hopping, raising 5 kids, and then getting connected to the Ugandan Water Project, and then starting his own cause in Africa. Jesse Sprinkle (Poor Old Lu, Demon Hunter, Dead Poetic, Morella's Forest) is stuck in my mind as a 13-year-old drummer for Bell Bang Villa, a Seattle area band who had recently changed their name to Poor Old Lu. I am still having a hard time accepting that he's now a 40-something husband and father of five who has been to Africa eight times and runs a recording studio (Bluebrick Recordings) in upstate New York for a living. Greetings! Well, this week we have former Dead Poetic lead singer and current t-shirt design maven Brandon Rike! We talk about the things that mean the most to any band that ever was: love, peace, the people who mean the most and ... the Evolution of Band. Tune in for what might be the most perfect hard take on where it all leads (here's a hint: Elvis knew. Very, very briefly.) Enjoy!
