We brought along Sean, vocalist of Portland, ME funk metal band Trawl to share his thoughts. We dig into our early memories of the record/band, the massive influence and legacy this record has, Poison The Well being a Mount Rushmore metalcore band, the importance of Trustkill Records, and much more. This is a special one, from a time when the genre was still taking shape. Such an influential band/record. Give it a spin if you haven't before, you won't regret it.Check out Sean and his band mates in Trawl below. In episode 119, I catch up with Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller, the noise pop duo better known as Sleigh Bells. I have been a massive Sleigh Bells fan since their first few singles back in 2009 — brash, genre-defying bangers like “Crown on the Ground” and “Infinity Guitars” that sounded unlike anything else, combining elements of pop, metal, hardcore, hip-hop and punk. They've continued to blow my mind with the leaps they've made since then. The three of us are also old friends at this point, and though we've done shorter interviews in the past, it was great to finally get to ask them some of the classic LSQ podcast questions about all the shit they were into as kids. In this episode, Alexis talks about what she learned from her experience in a teen pop band, revelations she had at the punk and hardcore shows she frequented during her New Jersey youth, and learning to integrate the diverse parts of her musical voice. Derek describes falling in love with the soundtrack to La Bamba as a kid growing up in Florida, and then discovering 80s pop greats like Janet Jackson and Cyndi Lauper before venturing into alternative and hard rock (Nirvana, Silverchair) and then having his mind blown by ground-breaking artists such as Radiohead and Björk, and then eventually joining metal core band Poison The Well in his later teens. They also share the story of how they came together to form Sleigh Bells, and how their current approach builds on the foundational principles they established for the band more than fifteen years ago.Sleigh Bells' new sixth studio album, Bunky Becky Birthday Boy, comes out this week and it's stellar. We're back! After over a month away due to technical issues, the Unsung Podcast has returned with an explosive new episode on metalcore pioneers Poison the Well and their 2003 album 'You Come Before You.' Joining Chris and Mark for the first time in many months is Dave, who chose Poison the Well as his band for the episode. Hailing from Florida, Poison the Well helped define the metalcore genre in the early 2000s with their blend of hardcore punk and extreme metal. Albums like 1999's 'The Opposite of December' and 2002's 'Tear From the Red' built them a cult following. But it's their third album, 'You Come Before You,' that Dave considers their unsung classic. Recorded with producers who had previously worked with Refused, the album shows Poison the Well branching into more melodic territory even as the riffs become heavier. With nods to bands like Deftones and Cave In, it expanded the boundaries of what metalcore could be. The episode explores Poison the Well's entire career, analysing how they evolved from their raw early material into a more ambitious band on 'You Comes Before You' and subsequent releases. Though not all fans appreciated their change in direction, Dave makes the case for why their third album struck the perfect balance and deserves classic status. Tune in now to hear the full discussion and analysis of why Poison the Well's 'You Come Before You' is an unsung classic!

Their adjacency to the Christian Hardcore world gave them an exceptional opportunity to expose big audiences to their unique brand of luxuriously composed Emo-Indie crossover. Their records were backdrops for some of the finest work done by vocalists from some of the more disparate corners of Emo, and while they are very much a Bands' Band, their music is held fondly in the hearts of true heads across the scene. We run through the Trustkill Records lineup and reminisce. “They were like Every Time I Die, but horny.” We learn that Joey is a card-carrying member of both the Poison The Well and Terminator 3 street teams. Mike does his best impression of Ryan Primack to deliver an actual important message. Tyler compares Poison The Well to an interaction he once had with a pigeon while reminding us how sick 2004-2007 scenecore was. We clearly have nothing but good things to say about August Rush, especially Tyler who blesses us with one of his famous plot synopses. Mike nearly forgot that ROBERT Williams is in the movie, so please talk trash on him in our email please. Also, we got a new review. If you leave us one, we’ll do more than shout you out – listen to the end for details. Whine & Cheese: A Podcast About Whiny Records and Cheesy Movies began in Spring 2018. It is a love letter to all things whiny and cheesy from Rites of Spring to Hawthorne Heights, Varsity Blues to Fifty First Dates, and everything in between. Listen as the trio of Joey Breeding, Mike Paulshock, and Tyler Smith mix and match two of life’s great audio and visual pleasures. Twitter and Instagram. While you’re at it, email us with your pairing suggestions, questions, Weird Al parodies, and comments! As always, ratings & reviews go a long way and are appreciated. Thanks LVAC for the support! Welcome to the 24th episode of "Talkin' with Andrew and Chris"! We are back with another very special episode, today's guest is Jolie Lindholm, of Alt Rock/Emo band  "The Darling Fire"!  Spartan Records proudly welcomes The Darling Fire to its esteemed and growing roster — a veritable mosaic of indie notoriety featuring Jolie Lindholm (The Rocking Horse Winner, Dashboard Confessional) on vocals/guitar, Jeronimo Gomez on guitar (Poison The Well, The Rocking Horse Winner, As Friends Rust), Steven Kleisath on drums (Further Seems Forever, Shai Hulud, Useless Things, Strongarm), Gregg More on bass (No Fraud, Slap of Reality, Pull) and Matthew Short on guitar (Jasperwal, D_Composure, Rival Science). After years of individual success in some of the scene's most beloved bands, The Darling Fire was born of both deep struggle and deeper friendships. "Jeronimo and I had a particularly difficult end of the year in 2017," says vocalist/guitarist Jolie Lindholm. "We’d been wanting to write music together for awhile, but life kept getting in the way. The tough time we were having made us realize that life is short and there was no better time. We didn't specifically set out to start a band, per se. It just began to materialize as things started changing, once we started to share what we were working on. It almost took on a life of its own and kept pushing us to move forward, to make this into a real thing."  Keep up to date with The Darling Fire: Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/thedarlingfire/ Twitter:  https://twitter.com/fire_darling Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/thedarlingfireofficial/?hl=en Listen to The Darling Fire: Spotify:  https://open.spotify.com/artist/280ynciDmBOnHdsAwrewis Apple Music:  https://music.apple.com/us/artist/the-darling-fire/id1455925798 YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6wvrsfNTEU Keep up to date with Andrew and Chris: Instagram: Andrew: www.instagram.com/not_awgyomai/ Chris: www.instagram.com/christianevanko/ Twitter: Andrew: twitter.com/awgyomai Chris: twitter.com/ChristianEvanko Follow Andrew and Chris's band "The Stash": smarturl.it/fgtnwr Listen to Andrew and Chris's band "The Stash": smarturl.it/fgtnwr Subscribe to "Talkin' with Andrew and Chris" Podcast: Apple | Spotify | Google Play | YouTube | SoundCloud As always, "Stay Sweet!" --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkin-with-andrew--chris/support

Chris is most known for his time spent in South Florida metalcore band Poison The Well. But while the band has been on hiatus in 2010 he has moved to California and pick up studio drumming, filled in drums for Senesfail from 2015-2018, and is currently on tour drumming for Dhani Harrison (Son of Beatles George Harrison). It has been 9 years since Poison The Well released any new music and has only got together a handful of times since then... and probably much like you, we were curious as to when we may have a full return of the band. The band have just signed a deal with Dine Alone Records for the release of the effort, as well as a new EP for their song “Exile“, which will hit stores this weekend.   HOUSECLEANING/LISTENER QUESTION First race of the season is in the books “John and Kyle, Great to hear a new episode guys! My favorite show to date for sure. A question I've had for you guys that I've been wanting to ask for a while is whether or not either of you actually listen to music when putting in miles on the bike? I definitely refrain from plugging in when riding singletrack most importantly due to just being aware of other trail users, but when it comes to gravel or road riding, are tunes a necessary component for your training? Finally, thanks for the tip on Achilles! Super sweet stuff. Take care guys. Grant”   RECORD REVIEW World Be Free – 'The AntiCircle' Released: February 5 2016 – Revelation Records World Be Free's story began in the fall of 2014, when Scott Vogel (Terror, Buried Alive), Joe Garlipp (Envy), Andrew Kline (Strife), and Sammy Siegler (Judge, CIV, Rival Schools) met monthly to write classicinfluenced, melodic and positive hardcore. All of this developed without a label, budget or any mention to the outside world. When Siegler scored some recording time at Hurley, they flew in Arthur Smilios (Gorilla Biscuits, CIV) to cover on bass and hustled into the studio. Vogel and Terror bandmate Nick Jett then tracked vocals at Jett's studio, passing the ball to Walter Schreifels (Rival Schools, Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits) for one final guest spot. With their album finished and its release fast approaching, Top 5 – Primal Reaction Records. Something about these 5 records speaks to that dark place in your soul. Pure raw aggression and power..   UNBROKEN – Life Love Regret – 1994 New Age Records Life. Love. Regret. is everything that hardcore is. It is the heart, the soul, the sound, and the attitude. The music is loud and in your face, but most importantly, passion is put at the top. This album is a monument by a monolithic band. From the crushing riff and sinister notes at the beginning of "D4" to the ending feedback in the nine minute "Curtain."   Breather Resist – Only In The Morning – March 25, 2003 Deathwish Inc Breather Resist formed in 2002 and recorded 8 songs, 4 of which were on handmade demos. These 8 songs became their first EP, "Only in the Morning", released on Deathwish, Inc.. Their first LP, Charmer, was released on Jade Tree Records in October 2004, having been produced by Kurt Ballou. In December 2005, lead singer Steve Sidoni left the group; Buried Alive – Death Of Your Perfect World – April 20, 1999 Victory Produced by Steve Evetts at Trax East Studios. It is the band's only album with Jesse Muscato on drums.   CURSED – I – February 23, 2005 Deathwish Inc Formed in 2001 a year after the breakup of The Swarm aka Knee Deep in the Dead. Known for their trademark nihilistic and dystopian lyrical themes, stark classic horror imagery and loud, abrasive live shows. Integrity – Those Who Fear Tomorrow – 1991 Overkill Records Integrity's For Those Who Fear Tomorrow is a hardcore juggernaut that has lurked in infamy for over 15 years. Recorded in 1991, For Those Who Fear Tomorrow is often credited as on of the first true metalcore" albums. While hardcore crossover bands like the Cro Mags and Corrosion of Conformity had existed before Integrity, few were prepared for the world Integrity brought to life with their debut album. FTWFT's razor sharp metallic edges, driving hardcore verses, and gloomy breakdowns set a stage for one of hardcore's most messianic and charismatic front men: Dwid Hellion. The album has been issued in close to 10 different editions and formats. It has never received proper distribution or promotion, but it has survived: a truly bastardized child of hardcore, metal, and a darkness of the soul.   BUMPER MUSIC SEGMENTS Intro: Minor Threat   ‘Out Of Step’ News: UNBROKEN ‘D4’ Housekeeping: Breather Resist ‘Just Do It’ Record Review: World Be Free ‘Shake The Ghost’ Primal Records: Cursed ‘1974’ Outro: Integrity ‘Micha those who fear tomorrow’   FIND MBR Mountain Bike Radio Facebook Page Mountain Bike Radio on Twitter Mountain Bike Radio on Instagram Mountain Bike Radio on Pinterest
