This month is Pride Month, so Perri used it as an excuse to FINALLY get on the owners of her favorite LGBTQ+, women-owned vegan spot, Lady and the Shallot! Franny and Kate cover everything with her, including being vegan, coming out, and the current political climate. Honestly, they could have talked longer, so be happy this wasn't a three hour episode. It seems like Taylor Swift is everywhere right now, and Perri wants to know what all the fuss is about! After spending the last two months deep-diving into TSwift, Perri is joined by return guests Kara Lia and Emily Rickard, self-proclaimed Swifties, to discuss the queen. This week, Perri and Jesse review the first book of the Goth Mom Book Club, I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. This tell-all book was quite upsetting, but we are now Jennette McCurdy Stans for sure. The May Goth Mom Book Club book is Carrie by Stephen King. And be sure to check out next week's episode for the much anticipated Taylor Swift episode!
Perri is apparently such a mom now she forgot it was 420 today, so forgive the missed opportunity of a 420-themed episode. Instead, she and Jesse talk about her being bi, how that affects their straight relationship (spoiler alert: it doesn't), and debate who REALLY runs this podcast.Reminder: Our Goth Mom Book Club book for April is I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
Perri and Jesse got to cross something off their list bucket last week: SEEING BIKINI KILL LIVE. They talk about Punk Mama Rebel Girl Kathleen Hanna being the most amazing and the Riot Grrrl movement, and Perri half-heartedly schools Jesse in the history of feminism and the lack of inclusivity.
This week, Perri and Jesse talk about how damn tired they are. They accidentally start talking politics (how could they not after this week?), and Perri announces her new Goth Mom Book Club! Get excited, because new things are happening for Goth Mom in the next few months.April Book Club Book: I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
This week sucked. Listen to us complain about it!
Perri recorded a great episode with her sister, Sarita...until she noticed she only recorded her own audio! So enjoy this teaser episode with Sarita and expect a full episode with her very soon! It's still a fun episode, we promise!
We're back! After taking a break last week, Jesse and Perri dive into the Oscars (mainly Brendan Fraser's epic win). Jesse discusses how he became a film snob, and they reminisce about the glorious days of the video store.
Well, Jesse's doing it. He's going alcohol-free for the month of March! So naturally, him and Perri discuss sobriety within the alt scene. Perri also talks about her new crush, Courtney LaPlante, the lead singer of Spiritbox. Y'all really should check them out.
This week, Perri welcomes comedian and fellow theater dork, Ellie Summerling to the podcast. They talk about being thespians in high school, Ellie's experience in Shakespearean theater (we love a pretentious actor), and how she started doing comedy. Jesse joins in at the end because what is the Goth Mom Podcast without a cameo from Goth Dad.Follow Ellie on her instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ellie.summerling/.
Happy Valentine's Day! Releasing this on a Tuesday for all you goth lovebugs, Perri and Jesse talk about all things love: romance, unrequited love, heartbreak. Perri recounts Jesse proposing to her, and Jesse recounts all the times he was waaaay too romantic. Also discussed are the most romantic alt subgenres (spoiler alert: it's goth and emo). If you're not romantic, are you even a goth kid?
Perri has alt-girl turned lawyer, Emily Rickard, on the podcast this week. They reminisce about high school, talk about being alt ladies in the adult world, wax poetic about their love of Philly, and address where Emily's fear of dogs stemmed from (spoiler alert: it is not quite the story Perri thought it was for the last 20 years).
Well...that got unexpectedly heavy (I am your Goth Mom after all). This week, we discuss the implications of death and divorce when you have a kid, Jesse's lack of self-esteem in high school, and past roommate situations. It's a real upper episode.
Uh oh...we have our first on-air fight (and encourage you to take sides). Perri also talks about how her life has changed since moving back to Philly from Portland (how has it been five years) and we somehow segue into the dangers of celebrity and fame. Truly unsure how we got here.
Jesse got his colonoscopy and lived to tell the tale! We also discuss being a poser vs. a snob in within a chosen music genre and how Jesse, ummm, wanted to teach someone a lesson, and Perri is now contemplating divorce.
For lucky episode 13, we discuss the most appropriate topic: death. Jesse's getting his dreaded colonoscopy today, which was giving him serious feels. Him and Perri talk about their feelings about dying, the afterlife, and the comfort of blind faith (the concept, not the band). This is, after all, the Goth Mom Podcast. Occasionally, Goth Baby chimes in with her take.
Perri welcomes return guest, Kara Lia, back to the pod. This week they discuss what they did for New Years, what the heck Mummers are, random videos that are NSFW (anyone remember Two Girls, One Cup?), and how Lilith the Cat is the REAL baby of the family. They also say way too many first and last names of people they know IRL, forcing Jesse to teach Perri how to actually edit the pod. Check out Kara's official new band, The Jenks, at thejenksmusic.com.
Perri and Jesse say peace out to 2022 and talk about what they're looking forward to in 2023. They also discuss a random CD Perri bought when she was nine, and…it just might be Jesse's new favorite band. Happy New Year, goth kids!
Bah...humbug. This week, Perri and Jesse discuss holiday traditions, why Perri is somewhat of a grinch (you get one month, Christmas people), and gaming as an alt adult. Enjoy and have a happy...whatever you celebrate.
The guest you've all been waiting for: your very own Goth Grandmom! Elaine Sterling, aka Perri's mom, joins the pod this week for a very special episode! Elaine and Perri talk about Perri's childhood fears, her obsession with death growing up, and how she's turned into the alt adult she is. Although Elaine is initially stiff in the interview, she definitely gets into it as it goes on. Give it up for Goth Grandmom!
We're a day late publishing because political nerd Perri wanted to discuss the GA runoff election results from Tuesday. Perri and Jesse also talk about their Spotify Wrapped, the new Netflix series "Wednesday", and Perri transitioning from a Wednesday Goth to a Morticia Goth. Perri also forces Jesse to address his now-deleted, semi-controversial, Facebook post, while giving him a dirty look the whole time. Next week, join us for an extra special, if mildly stiff, interview with your very own Goth Grandmom, Perri's mom!
This week, Perri interviews writer and fellow podcaster, Shaun Fitzpatrick. In the spirit of the holiday season, they talk about their religious upbringing, how Catholicism and Judaism are similar to (aka stole things from) pagan religions, and their witch practice. Catch Shaun on her Harry Potter podcast “Wotcher, Harry”, and check out her awesome writing at the link.https://linktr.ee/Shaunfitz13
This week, Perri and producer/sometimes co-host Jesse basically shoot the shit. We're talking Thanksgiving, holiday traditions, and being vegan. Jesse also recounts his weird run-in with the cops. Tune in next week for a thrilling discussion with writer and fellow podcaster, Shaun Fitzpatrick, about religion and the occult. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!
Girls rule, boys drool! This week, Perri is joined by visual artist/writer and literal soulmate Paige Greco. They talk about problematic men in the alt scene, being an outcast in high school, living as a goth adult, and, most importantly, Paige's adorable new kitten, Tuesday.Paige's website: https://paigegreco.com/“Psychosocial Baby”: https://youtu.be/kspPE9E1yGM
Let's get ready for some sports ball! With Philly teams recently killing it and sports taking over their household, Perri and Jesse discuss the age-old conflict between jocks and alts, growing to embrace being a sports fan, and the weird dating politics between athletes and non-athletes. They also rank every sport EVER (not really) by how goth/weirdo-friendly they are. Apologies in advance to all the listeners we alienated by doing a sports episode. Next week we'll be back with artist Paige Greco, where we discuss misogyny in the alt world.Check out Jesse's podcast KYG Y2K, now mostly video, on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/user/MrJezzicho
Perri has her first guest: chef, musician, and best friend of the pod Kara Lia! This week we discuss Smashing Pumpkins, Panic! at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, freaking out at Warped Tour, and what Perri was really like in high school. Come for the discussion, stay for the recording mishaps because producer/husband Jesse left them to record on their own.For those of you who want 1979 forever ruined, here is the visual of Billy Corgan on a roller coaster: https://youtu.be/azhgpelu0vY
Halloween is almost here and Perri and Jesse have been cramming in horror movies in anticipation. They discuss about some of their favorites they watched this season, including The Thing, You're Next, Summer of ‘84, and more! Also discussed is the death of Leslie Jordan (RIP) and the Phillies winning the pennant! Sort of spoiler alert?
Host Perri Lerner is joined by producer/occasional co-host Jesse Draham (stand-up comedian, co-host of KYG Y2K podcast). They discuss Tom Delonge rejoining blink-182, band reunions in general, and the When We Were Young festival happening this weekend. Tune in and be prepared to feel old.
Welcome to Goth Mom, the podcast for aging goths, punks, emos, and all the alt weirdos. Did you get made fun of in high school? Is black still your favorite color? Do you unapologetically defend your love of bands whose singers still have side bangs 15 years later? If so, this is the podcast for you. Join host Perri Sterling, who talks about maintaining your edge while you navigate turning into your parents (AAAHHH!).
