Gut, das Saxofon ist seinem güldenen Äußeren zum Trotz streng genommen ein Holzblasinstrument. Aber zum einen versteht es sich mit seinen metallenen Kolleginnen klanglich meist hervorragend, und zum anderen wäre "Woodwind Riot" ein nicht annähernd so cooler Bandname gewesen wie es Brass Riot nun ist. Und zumindest der "Riot"-Teil trifft zu, denn das einst in Lüneburg gegründete Trio macht ganz schön Krawall – im positiven Sinne. Dabei nutzen Constantin von Estorff, Simon Sasse und Carl Weiß die nicht ganz alltägliche Instrumentierung aus zwei Saxofonen und einem Schlagzeug, der sie an den richtigen Stellen mit einem sogenannten elektronischem Blaswandler Synthie-Impulse verpassen, um ihre ebenfalls ungewöhnliche Mischung aus Jazz, Punk, Ska, Pop und elektronischer Musik zu erzeugen. Mit dieser verleihen sie als routinierte Straßenmusiker nicht nur ihren umweltschutzpolitischen Anliegen mit Auftritten bei Demos und Kundgebungen Nachdruck – immerhin hat das Wort "Brass" neben der eingangs erwähnten auch noch eine weitere Bedeutung im Deutschen, nämlich "Wut" –, sondern wissen auch bei ganz "normalen" Club-Shows eine schweißtreibende Tanzsause mit politischer Botschaft abzuliefern. Ganz ohne Texte! Zuletzt haben sie ihren mitreißenden Sound 2023 auf dem Album "The Never Acting Story" dokumentiert, live kann das Spektakel am morgigen Dienstag im Club Gretchen erlebt werden. Bereits heute Abend geben uns Brass Riot einen kleinen Vorgeschmack, wenn sie nach dem Interview die kleine Bühne im studioeins entern.
