In my twenty years of teaching, I've come across numerous pedagogical techniques designed to boost student learning, but few have been as transformative as interleaving. This technique, backed by cognitive science, has the power to enhance long-term retention and application of knowledge: yet it remains underutilised in many secondary school classrooms. Today, I want to explore generalisable rules for interleaving (a structured approach that any secondary school teacher can apply) and one that, to my knowledge, has never been formally outlined before. Sean likes the Penguins getting a second-round pick for Anthony Beauvillier after Beauvillier was traded for a 5th last year. Sean would trade Erik Karlsson and it's currently a MAJOR sellers market. He would deal Rickard Rakell for a big return and the Penguins are in a good spot to attain assets.
Rakell stays in Pittsburgh. Mullys is not a fan upon further reflection. Calls on the deadline. Can the Pens still contend with Crosby/Malkin? Do the fans believe in Dubas to make the right moves? Hexall was a trojan horse
In this episode, Rickard dives into the CrossFit Open and its deeper impact beyond just competition. Responding to a heartfelt email from a former member, he discusses the challenges, emotions, and questions surrounding the Open, especially when workouts feel “too hard” or beyond our abilities.Topics covered:• The CrossFit Games vs. The CrossFit Open – Are they really the same thing?• Why stepping out of your comfort zone leads to the biggest breakthroughs.• The importance of community and why the Open is more than just a leaderboard.• How approaching the Open with the right mindset can set you up for long-term success.• The balance between safety, challenge, and progress in fitness. The Open isn't just about testing fitness, it's a celebration of personal growth, overcoming obstacles, and embracing the support of a community that wants you to win.Listen in, reflect on your own approach to challenges, and get inspired to push your limits!
Jeff believes the Penguins need to do whatever is best for the team to improve the roster. Draft experts like Jaxson Dart as a riser in the draft, but we still have questions. Jeff could pick Tyler Warren if he's available but would not take Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty. Jeff compares Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka to Hines Ward and would be happy if the Steelers take him. Jeff thinks the Penguins need to be blown away to deal Rickard Rakell.
Rickard Rakell scored his 29th goal and Joe wants the Penguins to trade him before Friday's deadline. There is no guarantee Rakell will stay healthy this year or next for a trade. People are making the argument the Pens can't take away a linemate of Sidney Crosby.
Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Rickard Rakell scored his 29th goal and Joe wants the Penguins to trade him before Friday's deadline. There is no guarantee Rakell will stay healthy this year or next for a trade. George Michalowski describes Pitt's issues. Jeff Patton of Baseball Card Castle has a Cooper Flagg card for Starkey's Card of the Week.
The threat by the Trump Administration to levy significant tariffs against three of the biggest trading partners of the U.S. became reality March 4, 2025, and the impact on the meeting and events industry is still unfolding.Meetings Today's Tyler Davidson engaged Voices in Advocacy's Roger Rickard, the leading expert on political advocacy in the meetings industry and beyond, to gauge how the 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, and now 20% on China—and reciprocal actions by those nations—may touch the industry. Will meeting and event costs skyrocket? Will international attendance plummet? Will organizations from those countries take a pass on bringing their events to the U.S.?At the time of recording the impact was far from clear, but Rickard outlines some very real scenarios as well as provides resources for how those in the meetings and events industry can reach out to their political representatives to make sure their voices are heard.
Would it be better for the Steelers to take a step back? Some fans think so in order to reload in 2026 with a quarterback in the draft. Joe would scratch Rickard Rakell tonight and thinks the Penguins NEED to trade him even though a lot of people think he needs to stay to help keep Sidney Crosby's point-per-game streak.
Hour 3 with Joe Starkey: Is there a team that will guarantee Justin Fields pull position to start? Will we be reminiscing on past memories for the next five years with our teams? Jeff Capel discussed how the ACC is down in basketball. Joe would scratch Rickard Rakell tonight and thinks the Penguins NEED to trade him even though a lot of people think he needs to stay to help keep Sidney Crosby's point-per-game streak.
Jason Mackey from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette comes on The Fan Hotline to talk to Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson about the latest surrounding the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

In this episode, we are joined by Rickard Fritjofsson. He's the founder and CEO of a successful multi-brand recruitment company, Worldwiders, that has placed over 5,000 people in 40 countries. Rickard discussed key elements of their company culture, influenced by sports principles, including clear career paths and collaborative goal-setting. As a recruitment business owner, it will also resonate with you how he addressed challenges such as downsizing due to market fluctuations which is a great business case of how being resilient will allow you to turn around unfavorable situations into learnings and advantages. Episode Outline and Highlights [03:48] How Rickard got into recruitment and how his role as the coach of Norway's national Bandy team influences his leadership. [08:11] Why Rickard focuses on international jobs as his niche. [13:34] Growing from 0 to $5m in six years - discussion of Nordic Jobs Worldwide's early days. [21:56] Trigger to decide on when to make the next hire in your recruitment firm. [23:35] Discussion about the business model and the management of portfolios. [26:46] Key success factors when rapidly growing their team. [36:42] Prioritizing career development of team members via progression and support projects. [45:30] Learnings that forced them to downsize and restructure. Targeting International Jobs as a Niche A unique selling proposition of Rickard and his team is their focus on international jobs as a niche. “So I did some research and figured out that no company in the world, even if the recruitment industry is big, is doing the niche of language recruitment of Nordics… So we were the first to step into that niche in 2016. So Norwegian, Swedish Danish, and Finnish were the specialization, and the business developed there. And we decided also to build it organically, like stone by stone.” Being observant of industry needs, Rickard came up with an impactful solution and built their business from there. He shared their three main objectives when launching their recruitment business: build a company organically, scale the business, and be the best in what they do. So far, Rickard and his team are on track to achieving these three main goals since starting their business in 2016. Key Success Factors Contributing to Rapid Growth An astonishing feat that Rickard and his team have accomplished is the rapid sustainable growth of their company since its inception. He grew the company from 0 to $5m in just six years. They have placed over 5000 people in 40 countries and they have 400+ clients worldwide. What would Rickard consider as a success factor contributing to this growth? Here are some takeaways: Core Values-Driven Culture – Embedding Courage, Trust, and Results into daily operations and decision-making. Clear Career Progression – Offering fast internal growth opportunities, and motivating employees to excel. Decisive Expansion Strategy – Rapidly opening offices in Barcelona and Lisbon, executing growth plans with confidence. Market-Aligned Scaling – Capitalizing on post-2022 industry demand to scale efficiently. Performance-Driven Mindset – Fostering a "best in the world" mentality, akin to elite sports teams (due to his background in Bandy) Client Partnership Approach – Positioning as strategic advisors rather than just service providers. Culture of Celebration – Recognizing achievements through company-wide events, awards, and gatherings. Rickard said, “From day one, when we started the business, we also put up core values and they are still active in the company. We also have three keywords: courage, trust, and result. So it's like having the courage to climb Mount Everest and call it taking strategic risks, putting the trust in the people we are hiring, and from that getting the results” Overcoming Challenges - From Scaling to Downsizing Rickard has also been very generous in sharing their resilience mindset when overcoming challenges. The last two years have been challenging: from scaling from 0-90 employees to downsizing to 60 again and cutting costs to meet the market situation is a scenario that Rickard is not used to. However, you will hear in our conversation his resilient recruiter mindset and how getting out of his comfort zone makes him a strong CEO who can turn around unfavorable situations. He was specific in action points that they are doing differently such as implementation of stricter financial controls and a return to foundational recruitment practices, with plans to scale responsibly with improved processes. If you are a recruitment entrepreneur and leader, you will surely be able to relate to what he shared in his experience. Have you navigated a similar scenario as a leader before? They had no coach or external accountability.Tune in to learn: • Why most people fail to follow through on their goals • The power of accountability and why having a coach (or the right partner) changes everything • Why going at it alone often leads to repeated failure • How to find the right accountability system for your goalsIf you've ever struggled with consistency, this episode will give you the tools to finally break the cycle.

We're familiar with the idea that history shapes contemporary politics, but what about the reverse? How do today's political dynamics influence the way we remember the past? In this episode, we explore a compelling study that examines this question in the context of Ukraine—a country caught between conflicting historical narratives from Russia and the West. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the nation has endured not only a devastating war but also an intense battle over history, identity, and legitimacy. Yet, these struggles are deeply rooted in Ukraine's complex past. The study we discuss was conducted in 2019, offering a snapshot from before the war. It investigates how Ukrainians recall their families' experiences of victimisation during the Second World War and whether these memories are shaped by their present-day political beliefs. Joining us to discuss these findings is Kristin Bakke, Professor of Political Science and International Relations at UCL and co-author of the study. Mentioned in this episode: Bakke, K. Have you ever had a life changing moment? A tragedy, unexpected diagnosis or sudden loss that left you feeling alone, confused or in despair, wondering what to do next? When Wendy Rickard's husband fell into a utility area, dropping twenty feet on his head, she began to question God. He survived, but his brain injury meant her family lost the father and husband they depended on for everything. Their family of four imploded. Wendy wondered what God's purpose was in this heartache, if He would take care of their future and if their lives would ever be the same again. God's answers were not immediate, and quite frankly, rather slow. But He did answer her questions in His own way and in His own timing. Today Wendy can tell the story of both her husband and their family's healing and she's sharing that story in this episode. If you've been through a life-altering experience, Wendy wants you to know that no matter what you are facing, God can bring hope and healing to you as well. In his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey ponders the Penguins' power play unit as it looks to improve on an ugly 2023-24 NHL season. How will new assistant David Quinn shake things up, both in terms of personnel and scheme? How do pieces including Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell fit within that dynamic? And how can they help the Penguins get more out of stars Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? Jason tackles those topics ahead of the preseason home opener Tuesday night, then weighs in on the Pirates' final MLB homestand over at PNC Park. Can they match their win total from 2023? What consequences should follow for manager Derek Shelton and GM Ben Cherington if they don't? And what is Ke'Bryan Hayes future after being shut down for the season yet again with back issues?
