Saul and Jonathan die in battle. David mourns them, and then is chosen as Judah's king. Ishbosheth, son of Saul, is king over the rest of Israel.

Saul hears from Samuel and is brought low. David sent home to Ziklag by the Philistines only to find his town has been burned to the ground and his wives have been captured, all by Amalekites. God through David turns things around quickly.

David again spares Saul, but eventually has to run to the Philistines for protection. Saul, fearing the enemy risen against him, seeks out a medium for encouragement.

David spares Saul's life and Saul ends the chase... for now. David's encounter with Nabal, and with Nabal's wise wife.
