God has inspired thousands with the testimonies of martyrs' widows who publicly forgave their husband's killers, like Anita Smith and Pauline Ayyad. Hannelie Groenewald shares how she learned that her husband and teen-aged children had been killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan. I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1The one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6Feb 21 (Reuters) - Republican U.S. presidential candidate Nikki Haley said on Wednesday she believed frozen embryos created through in-vitro fertilization were babies, in comments seen as backing a controversial ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court.Late last Friday, the Alabama Supreme Court struck a devastating blow against Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. In LePage v. The Center for Reproductive Medicine P.C., the Court ruled that “an unborn child is a genetically unique human being whose life begins at fertilization and ends at death.”The Court continued that “an unborn child” qualifies as a “human life,” “human being,” or “person” ... “throughout all stages of an unborn child's development, regardless of viability.” (emphasis added)The case involves a wrongful death lawsuit by three couples regarding the death of their frozen embryos at an IVF clinic. The deaths were caused by a clinic patient who wandered into the cryogenic nursery and tampered with an unsecured freezer resulting in the embryos being dropped on the floor.Chief Justice Tom Parker said, “The People of Alabama have declared the public policy of this State to be that unborn human life is sacred. We believe that each human being, from the moment of conception, is made in the image of God, created by Him to reflect His likeness. It is as if the People of Alabama took what was spoken of [by] the prophet Jeremiah and applied it to every unborn person in this state: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, Before you were born I sanctified you” (Jer. 1:5).The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is a missionary organization that serves persecuted Christians in the world's most difficult and dangerous places to be a Christian. Imagine worshipping the Lord while the walls of your church building are being torn down. It can be hard to fathom what our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ go through in restricted and hostile nations. How do Christians in free nations understand the Bible's promise that “all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim. 3:12)? Floyd Brobbel, CEO of VOM Canada and author of Trouble on the Way: Persecution in the Christian Life, explains that persecution is not about the amount of pain inflicted, but about the goal of silencing the church. For many in free nations, the threat of ridicule is enough to prevent Christians from evangelizing their neighbors. Yet, the church continues to grow in places where Christians are kicked out of their families, beaten, imprisoned and even killed. Recently, Floyd was able to sit down with a pastor from Burma who started a ministry and was part of leading many Buddhists to faith Christ. He was arrested seven times and tortured in ways he didn't want to talk about. The pastor's wife was also arrested. Both were sustained by God's Word in the midst of their suffering. Floyd shares how this couple reminded him of a modern-day Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, the founders of The Voice of the Martyrs. Listen for an update on Christian persecution in India, where pressure against the church has increased dramatically during the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“As we commit daily to being Christ's witnesses to a lost world, we must understand that we will be opposed. In fact, the more faithful we are, the more serious the opposition.” Cole Richards, President of The Voice of the Martyrs, joins VOM Radio this week to talk about helping Christians in free nations, like the United States, discover what it means to follow Christ when it's unpopular or even costly—something Christians living in restricted nations and hostile areas deal with every day. We'll also introduce a new resource from The Voice of the Martyrs to inspire believers to learn about and develop a faith worth suffering for. Cole recently wrote a series of editorials in The Voice of the Martyrs free monthly magazine on the topic, “Prepared for Persecution.” The Bible promises opposition (John 16:33) and persecution (II Tim. 3:12) when we live out our faith as biblical disciples of Christ. If Christians in free nations don't learn these scriptural truths, we will be unprepared to face persecution when it comes. Cole and Todd will also discuss The Sabina Group Study, a new resource from The Voice of the Martyrs offering inspiring examples of Christians who have taken up their crosses and followed Christ in spite of opposition, persecution, suffering and pain. Examples in the study come from the lives of VOM's founders, Pastor Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, and also from seven “modern-day Sabinas,” women who endured intense persecution as faithful witnesses for Christ in our day. A FREE copy of this brand-new video resource, including the full-length Sabina feature film and six video study sessions, is available right now to anyone who makes a donation to The Voice of the Martyrs. The anxious mother in India had tried everything. Her son was very sick, and it seemed he would soon die. She'd been to the Hindu temples and made offerings to many Hindu gods. Nothing had worked. Her son only became sicker. Then, a travelling salesman suggested that she pray to Jesus. She did — and her son was healed! Amazed and awe-struck, the mother and son hunted down the salesman to find out more about this Jesus who answers prayers. Today, her son is a pastor and evangelist who's travelled more than 40,000 miles sharing the gospel. God is at work in hostile and restricted nations! That's just one of the stories you'll hear this week from David Witt, CEO of Spirit of Martyrdom and a former staff member at Voice of the Martyrs. David will share stories from his encounters with Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, VOM's founders, and the “holy experience” of visiting one of the prison cells where Richard was held in communist Romania. David will also tell us how he became aware of and involved in ministry to persecuted Christians, and how God used the attacks of 9-11 to draw the attention of American Christians to radical Islam and the scriptural call to love our enemies. Today, the ministry David leads is training up church planters and leaders in multiple countries — with an eye on training that's easily reproducible to other potential leaders. Keith Getty is a Northern Irish singer/songwriter of modern hymns. Together with his wife Krystin, he's using his music as a platform to draw attention to those suffering persecution for their faith in Jesus. Closer to the Fire host Greg Musselman speaks with Keith about the upcoming theatrical release of the movie, Sabina: Tortured for Christ, The Nazi Years. Sabina Wurmbrand co-founded The Voice of the Martyrs international with her husband Richard. The founding couple lived exemplary Christian lives despite suffering at the hands of Nazis and Communists in their homeland of Romania. The film, which premieres in November, will feature the Gettys' music on the soundtrack. Greg also shares an update on a Nigerian pastor who was recently killed for his faith, providing you with an opportunity to join him in prayer on behalf of our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria. Length: 16 minutes Show NotesView the trailer for Sabina: Tortured for Christ, The Nazi Years:www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y_rgUdlAP0 For information about global Christian persecution, visitwww.vomcanada.com/global-persecution.htm To subscribe to The Voice of the Martyrs Canada's weekly Persecution & Prayer Alert or monthly magazine, go to www.vomcanada.com/manage-subscription.htm
