Sometimes we Christians act like Philistines. We relegate the True God to just another option in our temple of idols. This sermon challenges us not to make the same mistakes as the Philistines.
One for Our Sins1 Corinthians 15:3-4For us men and for our salvation,he came down from heaven;by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried.Why? Why did Christ come? What was the goal of the incarnation? telos (τέλος)- usually translated as goal/end, whole, perfecttelos (τέλος)- a final purpose, God's intended design, the fulfillment of divine purposeMatthew 5:48"Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.""Be the fulfillment of God's purpose, therefore, as your heavenly Father is fulfilling THE divine purpose."Why? Why did Christ come? What was the telos of the incarnation? 1 Corinthians 15:3-43 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,Humanity is the telos of the incarnation.God's divine purpose in the incarnation is humanity.For us men and for our salvation,he came down from heaven;by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried.The incarnation has a saving purpose: our rescue from sin.What do we mean by 'sin'?What do we learn about the nature of God?What do we mean by 'sin'?• In the Bible, sin is both a failure and a power.• God created us with a calling—to reflect His image in the world. We were made to live as His representatives, like priests who bring His presence into everyday life, and like trusted rulers who care for His creation on His behalf.What do we mean by 'sin'?1. Sin is a failure of vocation (humanity's telos).2. Sin, as the Bible describes it, is also a power we are under.To sum it all up: The death of Jesus on the cross achieved our salvation by dealing with sin (our failure) and Sin (the power we were under). That is not a temporary deliverance or a fictional salvation. It is a total and full healing of the fractures and the breaks in our lives and in our world caused by sin/Sin. If sin is the breaking apart of God's good world, then salvation is God putting it all back together again—beginning with us.Packiam, Glenn. What's a Christian, Anyway?: Finding Our Way in an Age of Confusion and Corruption (pp. 92-93). (Function). Kindle Edition. What do we learn about the nature of God?1. The Son of God, True God from True God, became incarnate for us.2. God is not distant or indifferent.3. God is profoundly invested in humanity, stepping directly into our story for our salvation.

In this sermon, part of the series "The Living and True God," Psalm 145 is explored as a earnest call to worship God for his divine attributes and mighty works. The Psalm, with its rich vocabulary of praise, emphasizes God as the worthy recipient of adoration. It reveals God's God's greatness, seen in his everlasting kingdom and reminds us of God's goodness in his love for his people and all creation. This psalm calls us to overcome ignorance and pride, deepen our knowledge of God, and declare his truth to the next generation, upholding worship as the church's primary mission.

By Ken Loucks - Some today claim that Jesus Christ had a beginning—that He was created. But what does the Bible actually say? In this message, we open the scriptures to explore the true nature of Jesus Christ, His role in creation, and why His eternal existence is essential to the plan of salvation. If Christ was

The greatest problem facing society, families, and the church today is a lack of knowledge of God. This sermon, like the Bible, presupposes God's existence and focuses on revealing who he is, particularly through his personal name, YHWH, translated as "I AM" in Exodus 3:14. This name signifies God as the self-existent, sovereign, unchanging, and covenant-keeping Lord, fully revealed in Jesus Christ, who is the "I AM" incarnate. There is transformative power in knowing God, which brings eternal life, holiness, and privilege to the redeemed.
By Ken Loucks - Who is the true God? Millions today do not know who He is—or what His ultimate plan for humanity really is. Is God a solitary being, or has more than one divine person existed from the beginning? What changed when Christ was born, and why does that matter? This message answers these vital questions

In this episode of God Talk, we delve into a question that has sparked curiosity and theological debate for centuries: Is Jesus God? Continuing our message series on the most Googled questions about God, we explore biblical passages and interpretations to unravel this profound mystery. Host discusses the fear that often prevents individuals from following God's commands and highlights how fear was addressed historically by leaders like FDR. The implications of world events related to Israel are also touched upon, addressing fears surrounding possible global conflict. The podcast delves into the concept of the Trinity, examining how Jesus is perceived across different denominations and religions, including Christianity, Jehovah Witnesses, and Mormonism. Various scriptural references from the Gospel of John, Philippians, and more are explored to support the belief in Jesus's divinity. Join us as we navigate these complex theological discussions, encourage you to explore your faith, and ultimately reflect on worshipping Jesus with acknowledgment of His divine nature, as expressed through Thomas's declaration of "My Lord and my God."
Psalm 115 reminds us that worship is not just a religious act but a radical statement of allegiance. In a world filled with idols made by human hands, powerless and speechless and lifeless gods, we gather to exalt the one true and living God who reigns from heaven and does whatever He pleases. This sermon explores the glory of God, the shame of false gods, and the call for undivided allegiance to Christ. As we examine the contrast between divine power and human made vanity, we are reminded that worship sanctifies us and prepares us for the eternal praise we will render in glory. From Israel's call to trust to the sobering reminder that the dead do not praise the Lord, Psalm 115 compels us to give all glory to God alone because of His mercy and His truth. In today's message, “The Living and True God,” Pastor Jack Morris takes us to 1 Thessalonians 1:4–10, where the Apostle Paul describes how the Thessalonian believers turned from idols to serve the living and true God. Their faith became an example for others, not just because of what they believed, but because of how they lived. This message is a call to examine our own hearts—are we fully surrendered to the God who is alive, faithful, and at work in our lives today? Let's open our hearts to His truth and His power. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven.” (Luke 24:50-51)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Think about those hands. Hands that were knit together in the womb of St. Mary. Hands that pressed up against that womb as they grew. Hands that grasped His mother's finger as she cradled Him in her arms. Hands that held St. Joseph's fingers as He learned to walk. Hands that did chores around the house. Hands that reached out to touch the lepers, the blind, the deaf, and the mute. Hands that reached out to grab Peter as he sank into the water. Hands that stopped a funeral procession in its tracks, touching the coffin of a young man and then taking that young man and giving him back to His mother. Hands that blessed the little children.Hands that overturned the tables in the Temple. Hands that dipped a towel in the water and washed the feet of His disciples that would run away, or, even worse, deny Him that night. Hands that broke bread and said, “Take and eat.” Hands that raised the cup and said, “Take and drink.”Hands that were pierced with nails. Hands that went limp in death. Hands that were laid in a grave. Hands that were shown to the Disciples on Easter Evening and to Thomas the next week.Now, as Jesus ascends into heaven, those nail-scarred hands are raised and lifted in blessing. Those hands were taken into heaven and seated at the Right Hand of the Father. Those hands, hands of the One who is True God and True Man, have a place in heaven.Those same hands now come to you in blessing. They work through the hands of your pastor who baptized you, who forgives, who delivers the Body and Blood of Jesus to you each week, and who raises His hands in blessing and says, “The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord makes His face shine upon you be gracious unto you, the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”In the Name + of Jesus. The hymn we study this weekend was written by Timothy Dwight, a Reformed pastor and teacher at the time of the founding of our country. He was the grandson of revivalist, Jonathan Edwards, and a scholar by his own right. He was known by George Washington, and the President of Yale University. This is the only hymn that we have by Dwight in our hymnal, and sadly, some of the greater verses have been dropped out of other hymnals to make in more palatable to modern sensitivities (notably verses 3 and 6). It is found in the "Communion of Saints" section of our hymnal and is full of Biblical imagery for the church. The church, or the communion of saints, all believers, is referred to as "her" based on the picture of the church as the Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5). The hymn is a reminder that every Christian is a part of the whole of God's church. We are connected, not only to God, but also to one another. Because of this we join together in prayer and praise and encourage and support one another with our prayers as well as support. It is also through the visible church that the LORD imparts His gifts to His people through the "blest communion" and the Word by which God make rich promises to us of forgiveness and life, and in response we make promises to Him to be faithful to Him and in our use of His gifts. We dare not abuse His altar either by neglect or by aggression against Him or His people. The hymn points us to Jesus as our Redeemer, as True God, our Savior and the victory He has secured for us over our enemies. So we declare His word of Truth in confidence of His return on the Last Day and our joyful reunion with Him and all His people for eternity! Isaiah says “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). As sure as we are that God's Word of Truth will last, we can also be certain that the church will finally inherit the eternal life Jesus came to win. Join us this weekend as join together with our fellow believers to rejoice in God's gift of the CHURCH, both the fellowship that we have with Him through His Word and Sacraments, and the fellowship that He had created between believers united in faith and confession. What great blessings are ours! May the LORD bless your hymns of praise and thanksgiving to the True God this weekend!

Elijah taught the people that you either belong to God or you don't. Elijah was about to reveal His God to all the prophets of Baal. God preforms a miracle in front of all the people and reveals His Glory as the One, True God.
Scripture: Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-9, Luke 9:28-36, Psalm 104:2, John 14:8-9 Pastor's teaching on Jesus' transfiguration on a mountain top with Jesus, Peter, James, John, Elijah, Moses and the Voice of God brings this series of God's Ten Words to a conclusion. It's a surprise ending, because how could Jesus' transfiguration be remarkably connected to God's Ten Commandments, while also having a tremendous application to what we have been studying these past weeks? When Jesus was transfigured his face glowed like the sun. The three disciples Jesus brought along are in awe and amazed. Psalm 104:2 says, “The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;” The disciples knew the psalms well, did this verse come to mind as they saw Jesus shining so bright? They are witnessing the true revelation of who Jesus is. True God and true man - God-man who has come to deliver us all. Then suddenly Moses and Elijah appear with them as a cloud (the presence of God) comes over the entire group and they hear the Voice of God, “This is My Son who I love. With Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him.” Jesus is revealed as the Son of the Living God. God in the flesh who has come to earth to deliver us all. Why do Moses and Elijah appear? 1. Both were devout followers of God 2. Both had unique ends to their lives on earth 3. Both went to Mt. Sinai 4. Both heard God speak at Mt. Sinai 5. But neither of them saw God's face. But today, at Jesus' transfiguration Moses, Elijah, John, Peter and James all saw the face of God as revealed in the face of Jesus, the Living God. John 14: 8-9 tells us, “Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'?” Jesus revealed Himself to them. He is the Living God, the Deliverer and He alone saves and He is our only Hope because apart from Him we have nothing. And then suddenly it is just Jesus and the 3 disciples. Jesus tells them not to tell anyone about what they have just witnessed until after His is risen from the dead.. (but they didn't understand what He was talking about or what He meant.) In summary, The Ten Commandments are brilliant, powerful and profound instructions from God, but they can't save us - they are like a curb, a mirror and a guide but they don't save us. In Jesus, the Messiah, are revealed grace and truth and He alone can save. He willingly went to the cross to bring us righteousness as He bore our sin on Himself.. A. W. Tozer says, “The only sin Jesus ever had was ours. The only righteousness we can ever have is His.” We are encouraged to follow the Ten Commandments, but that will never save us. There's only Jesus, the Living God, The Living Word of God, The Word that became flesh who can do that! Now What? Learn about God at https://www.awakeusnow.com EVERYTHING we offer is FREE. Moses, in the description which he gives of God, certainly appears to have intended a brief comprehension of all that it was possible for men to know concerning him—"The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, and transgression, and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty;

We explore the truth that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man; he is one person with two natures, both Divine and human. Fr. Mike explains that we call Mary the Mother of God because, from the very moment of his conception, Jesus was fully God and fully human. Fr. Mike also goes over heresies in the history of the Church that have denied the humanity of Christ, rejected the divinity of Christ, or confused the fact that Jesus is the Son of God by nature. The Church has always responded by affirming that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God who became a man and our brother without ceasing to be God and Lord. 1 John 5:20 is one of the handful of grammatically ambiguous passages in the New Testament that either calls Jesus "God" (theos) or distinguishes Jesus from God. This week's episode examines the passage as neutrally and fairly as possible to determine whether Jesus is called "the true God and eternal life." 1 John 5:20 will be set in the broader context of the entire book and the context of Johannine literature as a whole before deciding on the key theological matter.
