Key verse Romans 1:4 - '...And (Jesus was)  declared to be the Son of GOD with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.'The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is just as crucial to our salvation as His death on the cross for our sins. For if Jesus didn't rise from the dead it means His sacrifice was not sufficient payment for the sins of the human race. It means there would be no atonement for our sin.But rest assured... Jesus did rise from the dead on the 3rd day after He died. This fact was witnessed by many people who saw Him afterward, and numerous peole with whom Jesus interacted. But how do we know for sure? Let me ask you - what changed the disciples from cowards to lions?Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

Jesus was only taken down off the cross after a Roman soldier ensured Jesus was dead by thrusting a spear into His heart. It is crucial that Jesus was dead because without Him dead there could be no resurrection from death.Without a ressurection the Christian system of belief is empty, as in fake. The Apostle Paul said that those of us who believe Jesus was raised from the dead if in fact He did not rise, we are the most pitiful of all people. Why would he say that? Because our hope for eternal life would be in vain. But take heart - the dicisples, the very ones who abandoned Jesus, were changed by something to the point they turned the world upsidedown with a message coming out of an event they witnessed. And most of them died telling what they saw.Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

When Pilate, the Roman governor, asked the religious leaders clamoring to have Jesus put to to death  , he asked them, "Why, what evil has He done?" But the mob didn't answer him except to cry out all the more, "Let Him be crucified!"John 19:7 gives more information as to the reason the leaders in Jerusalem wanted Jesus dead. They said because Jesus "made himself the Son of GOD."This was an excuse they used because the real reason was Jesus told them earlier in His ministry their religion would not gain them favor with GOD, and that they were the "children of the devil."Yes, that will get religious people riled up. Now, on the cross Jesus had something to say to those witnessing His death. He asked GOD His Father to forgive those men standing there as they mocked Him. And then, just before He died He declared, "It is finished!"This meant HIs death completely atoned, or paid the penalty, for the sins of the human race. All sin, for all time. Why would He do this? Because of His love for us and His desire to see the human race survive. At least for those who chose to believe in Him and show it by taking Him as their Savior. You know, like what it takes to become married. It takes more than intellectual  assent. It takes an action on our part to become married. Now transfer that to salvation and you will have eternal life according to John 3:16 - "For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not preish but have everlasting life."Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

Did you know it can be hazardous as a follower of Jesus? In what way? Here are the words of Jesus concerning the hazard: John 15:18 - "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you." In civilized nations, the hazard is likely to come from standing for truth and being honest in business and work situations. Problems may come from standing firm with your integrity intact, refusing to give a false report of sales, or profit in the business world. For teachers, it may be difficult to report what a student's score actually is, not what the parents or school administrators would rather that teacher put down. It may be a law enforcement officer faced with being truthful, but it allows a guilty perpetrator to go free. Or a real estate agent being pressured to misrepresent the value of a piece of property. In countries where the dominant religion is other than Christianity and is hostile to any beliefs other than those held by the majority of people, Christians and others of different beliefs have lost their lives for no other reason than holding different values and beliefs concerning GOD. This hazard has faced GOD's people throughout Bible history, from the time of the prophets to New Testament times when Christians were killed for sport. Then came the dark ages around 1500-1600 AD in which Christians were killed by the thousands for simply possessing a Bible. And now in our day and age to avoid hazards at all costs, will we sit silent in the face of evil? Or, take our stand for the Son of GOD and His Word?Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

E82 - What Happened at the Cross? 2 of 2

In the song In Christ Alone  a lyric reads 'When on the cross as Jesus died, the wrath of GOD was satisfied.' Why did GOD have wrath and why would His wrath be satisfied with the death of His Son?This episode tries to answer those questions. The reason the answer is so important is that fully understanding GOD's hatred for sin helps us with being thankful for the forgiveness GOD offers and also gives peace to our souls knowing He has no anger against us as His spiritual child. On the cross just before He died Jesus cried out, "It is finished." Meaning the payment for sin, all sins, for all time, and for all who will ask forgiveness from GOD, was completed. Nothing more needs to be done other than receiving this forgiveness by believing in Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection. John 3:16 - "For GOD so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

'"It is finished." That is the last word in the Redemption of the human race.' (Oswald Chambers in Utmost For His Highest- paraphrased.)The Cross where Jesus died. This is a common statement of belief among Christians, but have you ever thought about what actually happened? As Christians, we know Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin, the sin of the whole human race. But what happened on that Cross to the extent the course of human history was altered? This episode takes a look at the legal transaction of Jesus's death and the benefit, if we will understand it, of the freedom we gain. This freedom is from bondage to sin and more. The Apostle Paul lamented his struggle with his old nature, the one corrupted by sin within him, and in despair cried out in Romans 7:24 - 'O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?'  In this episode, E81, and the next, E82, we'll find the answer to Paul's question.Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

This episode, one in a series, takes a look at several issues when host David Bradley and his wife, Kris, discuss their experiences with re-marriage and the challenges they faced. The ultimate relationship is that between a man or woman and GOD. With that in mind, why does the Bible liken marriage to our relationship with Jesus, Son of GOD?GOD created marriage and intended it for companionship between a man and a woman. He said in Genesis it was not good for man to be alone and created woman as a helpmate. This points us to the companionship GOD desires with us, a close union lost when Adam and Eve chose a different way to live... without GOD.Their choice brought in every conceivable problem within relationships.Show notes not available at this time -

Wearing a helmet is an act of protection. When I rode a motorcycle I knew the danger of serious head injury possible if I went down, especially at speed. So I wore a helmet, even though it can be hot in summer. In a spiritual sense the helmet of salvation mentioned in Ephesians 6:17 (Ephesians 6:17a - 'And take the helmet of salvation...' implies the need for protection. Protecting the mind is crucial if we are to enter into spiritual warfare through prayer. Literally, lives are at stake and our prayers will make a difference.Believe me, when I say this, our enemy, Satan, will aim his fiery darts by lying to us, trying to deceive us, discourage us, you name it, he will attack your mind, and distort your thoughts.I recently went through just such a time while creating these last few episodes. The attack was subtle I didn't recognize it for what it was. This episode on the Helmet of Salvation explains how to protect our minds.Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

In Ephesians 6:15:  'and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace,' Paul informs us we are expected to walk or live, in light (in the reality) of the Gospel of peace. This Gospel means a good message, one of peace. And peace in this verse means quietness and rest. Who of us doesn't want quietness? And it doesn't mean the kind of quiet that is unsettling. It means a respite from the clamor and manic noise coming at us from nearly every side. This episode explores how the good message of the Gospel brings a measure of peace to our minds even with demands swirling all around us.Show notes at HopesHarbor.net

This episode examines how right behavior on our part protects us from evil. It gives us the Breastplate of Righteousness - Ephesians 6:14bWhat is meant by a breastplate of righteousness? Christians know for the most part that Jesus gives us His right standing with GOD when we trust Him as Savior from sin. This means when GOD sees us, He sees the goodness of His Son covering us. There is nothing to condemn us.This is not the breastplate of righteousness Paul is describing in Ephesians 6: 14b. The breastplate consists of our good work in how we worship and how we treat and interact with those around us.By always doing what is right we protect ourselves from the evil influences coming at us from every angle. These influences will have us lie and mistreat others, especially those for whom we have no affinity.Show notes at HopesHarbor.net
