WhenJesus left the Pharisee's house, great crowds followed Him, but He was notimpressed by the size of the crowd or their enthusiasm. In this passage, Jesusspeaks to a large crowd following Him, saying, “If anyone comes to Me anddoes not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters,yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bearhis cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” He uses parables aboutbuilding a tower and a king preparing for war to emphasize counting the cost offollowing Him, concluding that disciples must forsake all and be like salt thatretains its flavor. Imaginea massive crowd buzzing with excitement, trailing Jesus as He walks away from aPharisee's house. They're drawn to His miracles, His teachings, maybe evenhopes of a political revolution. But Jesus stops, turns, and delivers asobering message: discipleship isn't a casual fan club. It's a costly, all-incommitment. First,Jesus demands supreme love. He says we must “hate” our family and even our ownlives. This isn't about despising people but loving Jesus so fiercely thatevery other affection pales in comparison. Think of a parent who sacrificespersonal dreams to follow God's call or a believer who risks family ties tostand for Christ. Our love for Jesus must eclipse all else, making us willingto surrender even what's dearest. I love how Oswald Chambers puts it: “The onlyright we have is the right to give up the right to ourselves”. Second,Jesus calls us to bear our cross. This isn't just enduring life'sannoyances—it's a daily choice to embrace shame, suffering, and God's will,just as Jesus did on His way to Calvary. It's saying no to selfish ambitionsand yes to serving Christ, even when it's unpopular or painful. Picture earlyChristians facing persecution or missionaries leaving comfort for danger.That's the cross we're called to carry. Then,Jesus uses two parables to drive home the need to count the cost. A buildermust ensure he has enough to finish a tower, or he'll face mockery for ahalf-built ruin. A king must assess if his army can defeat a stronger foe, orhe'll need to seek peace. These stories challenge us to consider: Are we readyto follow Jesus fully, knowing it may cost our reputation, possessions, or evenour lives? Half-hearted commitment won't do. Jesus wants disciples who'llfinish the race, not quit when the glamour fades. Finally,Jesus compares disciples to salt. Salt preserves, purifies, and adds flavor,making people thirsty for God. But if salt loses its savor, it's useless, fitonly to be thrown out. A disciple who compromises their faith becomesineffective, unable to impact the world for Christ. We're called to stayvibrant, devoted, and true, reflecting Jesus in our character and actions. Discipleshipis serious business. Jesus doesn't coerce us, He invites us to choose Himdeliberately, knowing the cost. He's looking for quality, not quantity, fordisciples who'll be stones in His church, soldiers in His battle, and salt inHis world. As He spoke these words, Jesus was heading toward His own cross. Heasks nothing of us that He hasn't already given. ChallengeThis week, reflect on what discipleship costs you personally. Ask yourself: Isthere something—family, comfort, ambition—I'm holding back from Jesus? Take onepractical step to deepen your commitment. Maybe it's prioritizing prayer overdistractions, serving someone despite inconvenience, or boldly sharing yourfaith. Count the cost, then choose to follow Jesus fully. Be salt that flavorsthe world around you. PrayerFather, thank You for Jesus' call to true discipleship. Give us courage to loveYou above all, bear our cross, and count the cost. Help us be salt thatglorifies You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

He showed Himself alive with some mighty "infallible proofs." They touched Him and watched Him eat a piece of broiled fish and a honeycomb. They were overjoyed.When Thomas heard about it, his response was disbelief. To hear their Lord was alive and showed Himself to all ten men was not enough for him to accept. I can almost feel a kind of violent emotional reaction to something so unheard of. Even though Jesus did tell themm He would rise again. I sense a bit of hurt as well. There is powerful ownership in his demand, "Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe!" Eight days later Jesus appeared among them, but this visit was an answer to Thomas' gut wrenching line drawn in the sand statement. Jesus came for that kind of violent love demand.This was a powerful demonstration of not believing just because everybody else did. But there being only one among them, in a fierce pasion insisted on his own encounter and settled for nothing less.This is a mark of growing Christian maturity. Thomas was called "Doubting Thomas," but I ask the question, "Is it such a bad thing to doubt?" Oswald Chambers said, "Doubt is not always a sign that a man is wrong; it may be a sign that he is thinking." There is something the Lord stands up and takes notice of when a person goes up the mountain alone to pray and seek the Lord with a made up mind. Jesus is a rewarder of this kind of determination. “If Christ is not all to you He is nothing to you. He will never go into partnership as a part Saviour of men. If He be something He must be everything, and if He be not everything He is nothing to you.”― Charles Spurgeon

FAITH #2 (Everyone needs a FAITH-Lift.) We trust God that with His Sword He will cut and do surgery on us – to give us a faith-lift – to remove that which is old and not so pretty anymore. Our key scripture Hebrews 11:6 - “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:3 (NIV) – By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what is visible. 1 Peter 1:3-8 - 3“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, Oswald Chambers wrote in “My utmost for His Highest”: Before I can say “I saw the Lord” there must be something in my character that conforms to the likeness of God. What we need is God's surgical procedure – His use of external circumstance to bring about internal purification. Our Faith can re-write our future (allow Him to give you a Faith-lift) Regret looks back – past possessed. Worry looks around – seed among the thorns, Chokes your Faith. FAITH looks UP. Here's the promise – plus side of: Hebrews 11:6a – with faith we can please God (WHY) Hebrews 11:6b – He is a rewarder of those who *earnestly and *diligently seek Him. * Earnestly = showing intense feeling *Diligently = hard-working, showing effort Prophetic word God is calling for “Order in my house Hebrews 6:11-12 (Amp). The Challenge “But we do [strongly and earnestly] desire for each of you to show the same diligence and sincerity [all the way through] in realizing and enjoying the full assurance and development of [your] hope until the end, 12 In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith ([b]by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. You must first be a believer if you want to be an achiever. Without a “Faith”- driven life you will become disinterested, and a spiritual *sluggard. *sluggard = lazy person “Faith” is action – never a “passive” [not active] attitude. “Faith” is not a pill you take, but a muscle you use. You see – faith is when your hands, your heart and feet keep on working, when your head and others say it can't be done, that the situation has become too BIG for me to handle. The ones who get anything significant of eternal value done for God are: Faith-filled, Faith-focused, Real faith will refuse to see anything that is contrary (opposite) to the Bible. It doesn't look at circumstances or conditions, but it looks at the promises. We must be moved by the “Word of God” not our feelings. 2 Corinthians 5:7 – We walk by faith and NOT by feelings Smith Wigglesworth said: “I'm not moved by what I feel. I'm not moved by what I see. I am only moved by what I believe.” You must remember, when Adam and Eve fell, their emotions fell too. Romans 14:23b – whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Ever since that day, man kinds' of emotions have been: Inconsistent, Misleading, and Often plain WRONG Do you know what I'm talking about? One minute you'll feel happy. The next minute sad. One minute calm. The next you're steaming angry. One minute radically saved – the next not sure if you are a Christian. Imagine a world in which all of our decisions were based on our feelings. Life run on emotions would be chaos!! That's why we don't feel the Holy Spirit – we sense Him. The difference between a born-again child of God and an unsaved person is - the One lives by faith, while the world runs on emotion. That's what they should be seeing in US - active faith. The good news is the more we walk in faith, the more our feelings start lining up with faith. Ralph Wald Emerson said: “All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen.” Here's a stern warning: Hebrews 3:9 – Where your fathers tried (My patience) and tested (My forbearance) (tolerance) and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for 40 years. Their faith-less life caused them to be “skape met bokneigings”. Sheep with Goat attitudes Many times, we know and believe God has come through for us and still we chose to be “faithless”, negative, ungodly and disobedient and long to go back to the Egypt ways. The real reason why Israel missed the promised land and God's best for them. Only a faith-filled Joshua generation went in. Romans 11:19-21 - 19They were pruned (broken) off so that we might be grafted in. 20That is true. But they were broken (pruned) off because of their unbelief (their lack of real faith), and you are established through Faith (because you believe). So do not become proud and conceited but rather stand in awe and be reverently afraid. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches (because of unbelief), neither will He spare you (if you are guilty of the same offense). James 2:14 (Msg) -Dear friends, do you think you'll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really, has it? (No!) In closing: How is your faith walk? Is your “Faith” showing itself through your daily actions? - o O o -

It was always at home. It was in the simple getting up in the morning to pray like Jesus who, "Arising a great while before day, arose, and departed, and went out into a solitary place and there prayed." Mark 1:35.Long walks in nature and seeing His birds in flight, and looking upwards into His skies has always been when He has met me. It has been in the simple, natural places of home that I would speak to Him, and feel His reciprocated love upon me. Awaking in the middle of the night my thoughts would arise and my prayers like incense ascended, and He was ever-present. I have never felt His Presence in religious crowds and noise, but only in quiet home moments. During Jesus' life, He was always going into people's homes whenever invited. When He did lives were changed forever. There were magnificent accounts of deliverances, miracles and quiet healings right under their simple home roofs.Wherever you live, in whatever roof you live under, Jesus Christ will enter in under your roof when you ask Him. He will never turn you down. Blind Bartemeus received his sight, the Paraplegic walked, Simon Peter's mother-in-law was healed of a fever. Jairus' daughter was resurrected. On earth Jesus never had a home of His own. The dainty charm wasn't celebrated over 2000 years ago as it is today. Jesus, in Mark 8:34, invites us to deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and follow Him; what does that mean?Could a loving God call us to hug our moments or lifelong plights of suffering?In today's episode, I share a powerful devotional from Oswald Chambers which challenges the present culture's comfort-driven mindset to shift our hearts toward the truth which is that following Christ means embracing His suffering. Things from long ago that brought heart brokenness. What was surprising is that the same powerful feelings of the long ago moments of those heart breaks were still powerfully alive in me.As I was remembering those things, I had an image of something broken and shattered in pieces before me. I spoke to the Lord as I had that vision in view saying, "Lord, how can you pour into my heart, my vessel, your living waters? How can my broken heart catch and hold your rivers?"I heard Him speak quietly within me, "When a heart is unbroken it is harder for the living waters to flow into it. The waters pour over it but not into it because it is closed up, there are no entrances. But the broken heart allows the rivers of life to fully flow into it." I saw the vision change to seeing water from above flowing like rushing mighty waters in through the broken pieces. The broken pieces became the very entrances for His life flow of love.I started to think about what it meant to remember, and how it is something we all do every day all day long. But there is another kind of "remembering." It is spiritual, and it is created in us as believers to always remember Jesus Christ.God also wants us to call upon Him to remember us. Nehemiah said it many times, "Lord remember me." David, Hezekiah, Hannah, Rachel, Isaacs wife, Job, the Israelites, the thief on the cross and many others prayed the same thing and God remembered and answered them. There comes a time that you must do the same. Do not shrink back from it during hard times, weaknesses, fears and sorrows. Say those three powerful words to the Lord the same as them, "Lord, remember me!" Remember also, "His thoughts for you are innumerable" more than the sand of the seashore."And just as Jesus answered the thief on the cross, He will answer you and say, "Today...." "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19 - Jesus Christ. "But God is the God of our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them to turn the past into a ministry of spiritual growth for our future. God reminds us of the past to protect us from a very shallow security in the present." - Oswald Chambers

“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companionof fools will be destroyed.” Today we are in between the chapters of Luke 10 and Luke11. I felt very impressed to take the time to tie them together with a personalspiritual discipline that has really helped me to take time to “sit at the feetof Jesus” on a daily basis over the many years of our ministry. In my very first year as a follower of Jesus, I wasprivileged to attend Lynchburg Baptist College, a brand-new Christian BibleCollege in Lynchburg Virginia that was co-founded by Dr. Jerry Falwell and Dr. ElmerTowns. It was there that I was introduced to Christian Devotional Books that wouldgreatly influence my life and ministry and give me a firm foundation to standon over the years. As a young believer I committed to reading five Psalms aday and one Proverbs that would take me through both books each month. InProverbs 13:20, I saw the great truth of “walking with wise men” that wouldkeep me from being destroyed by the devil and his fools. I asked the question, “Howcan I walk with wise men when they don't have the time to spend with a collegestudent or young pastor?” Of course, in those early years at LibertyUniversity, because there was only a handful of students, I was privileged toget to know wise men like Dr. Falwell, Dr. Towns, Dr. Hindson, Dr. Wilmington,Dr. Chapman, Dr. Dobson and many other wonderful professors on a personal andfirst name basis, but that didn't mean they had time to “walk with me” everyday and impart their wisdom into my life. But it was there that I'll never forget Dr. Falwell, inthose very first days of the college in chapel services, introducing us toChristian leaders and writer from the past. The first one I remember himmentioning was Watchman Nee and his book called “The Normal Christian Life”. Hetold how much it had influenced his life. The next one was Andrew Murray andhis book, “With Christ in the School of Prayer”. Another author and great pastor from the pastthat He often mentioned was Charles Spurgeon. One of my professors actuallystarted each class session by reading the day's devotion from “My Utmost forHis Highest” by Oswald Chambers. It was then that I realized that these great Christian leadersand authors from the past left their wisdom and their lives in their writings.So I began the daily discipline, of not only reading the Psalms and Proverbs,memorizing verses that spoke to my heart, and reading systematically throughthe entire Bible, but also spending time with these “wise men” of pastcenturies. So today, I want to list some of the “wise men” and their dailydevotional books that you can easily find somewhere on sale on the internet.These are books that I really believe have imparted to me a greater love and knowledgeof our great God and Redeemer Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Watchman Nee – Book:“The Normal Christian Life”; Devotionals: “The Joyful Heart” and “Table in theWilderness”.Charles Spurgeon – Devotionals: “Morning and Evening” and “Faith'sCheck Book”Andrew Murray – Books: “With Christ in the School of Prayer”and “Absolute Surrender”; “Humility”Devotionals: “Daily Thoughts on Holiness” and “God's BestSecrets”Oswald Chambers – Devotionals: “My Utmost for His Highest”and “Daily Thoughts for Disciples”Henry Blackaby – Devotional: “Experiencing God Day by Day”E. M. Bounds – One Minute Devotional: “The Power of Prayer”Elmer Towns – Devotional: “365 Ways to Know God”A. W. Friends, I need to ask for special prayer today before we look at Luke 9. This morning, I will be driving to Roanoke to meet my daughter Kimberly and my grandson Luke. Then early Sunday morning we will be driving to Boston Massachusetts for an appointment early Monday morning with a doctor at the Boston Children's Hospital, who is a leading specialist in the world on the condition that Luke has with his brain. This appointment and the insurance approval are both wonderful miracles. The hand of God's divine providence is so obvious in every aspect of this consultation visit. Please pray for traveling mercies for us, and wisdom for the doctor and his staff as they examine Luke, look at his x-rays and medical records, and make possible recommendations for future treatment. We can't thank you enough for your prayers over the past several years for Luke. I'm convinced that it is only because of your prayers and God's grace that Luke is still with us today and making such great progress! We truly appreciate you and can't say it enough: Thank you! In Luke 9, Jesus is training and preparing His twelve disciples for the time He will be gone to heaven, and they will be left to fulfilled His Great Commission by sharing God's love and the Gospel message with the whole world! We have said it often, but it bears repeating, “We can minister to the multitudes as Jesus did, but we can only disciple a few”. To personally be a disciple is not an easy road to go down. Jesus promised us trials and tribulations (John 16:33). But our main task as a disciple of Jesus Christ, according to the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, is to disciple others. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” But it can be very discouraging and disappointing when you have spent years discipling and pouring your life into some followers of Jesus, and then you find them without the power of the Holy Spirit to bear fruit, expressing jealousy and envy, arguing with one another, and generally lacking love for the people they have been called to reach and serve. That is what Jesus is experiencing in this passage. In this chapter, not only have the disciples of Jesus expressed lack of love for the hungry multitudes (“send them away” v. 12), for one another (vv. 46-48), they also showed a lack of love for believers outside their own group (Luke 9:49-50). We should be very careful not to be critical of other believers and ministries that don't believe exactly like us, or do ministry a “different way” (see Romans 14:1-13). Believers who think that their group is the only group God recognizes and blesses are in for a shock when they get to heaven. We should never forget that our zeal to fulfill the “Great Commission” is not a substitute for neglecting the “Great Commandment”, which is to both love God and our neighbor! (see Romans 13:8-10). The gifts of the Spirit without the fruit of Spirit profits nothing as far as the Lord is concerned (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). The first fruit of the Spirit is love (Galatians 5:22). We might have great faith and hope, but the greatest witness of the presence and power of Jesus in our lives, is expressing His love to others! (1 Corinthians 13:13). In John 13:35 Jesus said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." How is your love for Jesus and others today? God bless!

Thanks in advance for all your prayers and support! In Luke 9:1-11, Jesus is sending out His disciples to minister. In verses 12-17, Jesus is feeding the five thousand men with their families. Now, in verses 18-36, Jesus is teaching. He first teaches His disciples about His person (vv. 18-20). Secondly in verses 21-22, Jesus is teaching about His suffering, His sacrificial death, and His resurrection. Now in verses 23-26, Jesus is teaching them about discipleship. A “disciple” is one who has disciplined himself to follow another. Sometimes when we ask someone about their discipleship experience, they will respond that they have attended a 12-week discipleship course and memorized a few Bible verses about it. And they think that they have become a disciple of Jesus. But my friend, it is far more than that! Let me list the basic characteristics and evidence of those who are a true disciple of Jesus Christ found in Ephesians 2:8-9; and 4:11-17). 1) They have experienced a genuine salvation by being born again by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). 2) They are established in God's Word, by listening, reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating in it daily (Ephesians 4:13-14). 3) They are established in the fellowship of believers (Ephesians 4:15). Connected to and regularly attending a local church, Sunday school class, and small accountability group. 4) They are established in the structure of the local church (Ephesians 4:16). Exercising their spiritual gifts in a specific ministry. 5) They are established in the ministry of Christ (Ephesians 4:17). Leading others to Christ and discipling them. This morning as I was meditating on this passage in Luke 9, I couldn't help but think about how America does not need a “golden age” of prosperity, but that more than anything else, we need “God's blessings”. When our forefathers wrote the Declaration of Independence and said “that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, I'm convinced that they didn't intend for that to mean we have the right to pursue the feeling and emotion of being happy by having personal pleasure or things! They knew the Biblical meaning of “happiness”, which is “blessedness”. It was to be blessed by God by knowing and obeying His principles found in His Word. They knew that Jesus taught the “Beatitudes” about true “blessedness”. The first three, “Blessed are the poor in spirit”…, Blessed are they that mourn…,” and “Blessed are the meek…,” give us God's promises of heaven, comfort, and enjoyment of our time on earth. To be “meek” means that we have yielded the ownership of our life and possessions to the Lord. I believe that that Oswald Chambers has summarized true discipleship with this statement: “The only right we have, is the right to give up the right to ourselves”. Jesus made it clear! If you want to find your life, if you want to be truly blessed by God and enjoy His creation, you must give up your life for His sake and the Gospel. That is why we pray, why we sing, and why we put on our currency and coins, “God bless America”! God bless!

In Luke 7, Luke takes us from the “great faith” of a Gentile Roman centurion to King Herod's prison where a great prophet is having doubts about who Jesus is. We believe that this takes place about a year and a half from the time that John the Baptist baptized Jesus and presented Him to Israel as the Savior and Messiah. John had been in prison some months (Luke 3:19-20), but he knew what Jesus was doing because his own disciples kept him informed. It must have been difficult for this man, accustomed to a wilderness life, to be confined in a prison. The physical and emotional strain were no doubt great, and the long days of waiting did not make it easier. The Jewish leaders did nothing to intercede for John, and it seemed that even Jesus was doing nothing for him. If He came to set the prisoners free (Luke 4:18), then John the Baptist was a candidate! It is not unusual for great spiritual leaders to have their days of doubt and uncertainty. Moses was ready to quit on one occasion (Num. 11:10-15), and so were Elijah (1 Kings 19) and Jeremiah (Jer. 20:7-9, 14-18); and even Paul knew the meaning of despair (2 Cor. 1:8-9). There is a difference between doubt and unbelief. Doubt is a matter of the mind: we cannot understand what God is doing or why He is doing it. Unbelief is a matter of the will: we refuse to believe God's Word and obey what He tells us to do. "Doubt is not always a sign that a man is wrong," said Oswald Chambers; "it may be a sign that he is thinking." In John's case, his inquiry was not born of willful unbelief, but of doubt nourished by physical and emotional strain. The truth is that we would not have the opportunity to exercise faith if we didn't first experience doubt. You and I can look back at the ministry of Christ and understand what He was doing, but John did not have that advantage. John had announced judgment, but Jesus was doing deeds of love and mercy. John had promised that the kingdom was at hand, but there was no evidence of it so far. He had presented Jesus as "the Lamb of God" (John 1:29), so John must have understood something about Jesus' sacrifice; yet how did this sacrifice relate to the promised kingdom for Israel? He was perplexed about God's plan and his place in it. But let's not judge him harshly, for even the prophets were perplexed about some of these things (1 Peter 1:10-12). When John's disciples confronted Jesus with his question, Jesus did not give the two men a lecture on theology or prophecy. Instead, He invited them to watch as He healed many people of many different afflictions. Certainly, these were His credentials as the promised Messiah (Isa. 29:18-19; 35:4-6; 42:1-7). He had not established a political kingdom, but the kingdom of God was there in power. In verse 23, the Greek word translated "offended" gives us our English word scandalize, and it referred originally to the "bait stick" in a trap. John was in danger of being trapped because of his concern about what Jesus was not doing. He was stumbling over his Lord and His ministry. Jesus gently told him to have faith, for his Lord knew what He was doing. Jesus first came to change hearts with a spiritual internal “re-birth” (John 3:1-7). There are many people today who criticize the church for not "changing the world" and solving the economic, political, and social problems of society. What they forget is that God changes His world by changing individual people. History shows that the church has often led the way in humanitarian service and reform, but the church's main job is to bring lost sinners to the Savior. Everything else is a by-product of that. Proclaiming the Gospel must always be our first priority. Today, don't get caught in caught in the devil's trap of doubting God because He is not doing what you expected Him to do for you in the physical or material realm, but remember what Jesus has already done for you, and is continuing to do for you spiritually and internally. Catholic bishops attacked the ban that had stirred waves of anger and resentment all across Poland. Ultimately the government relented, insisting that the law remain on the books, but agreeing not to press for removal of the crucifixes, particularly in the schoolrooms. But one zealous Communist school administrator in Garwolin decided that the law was the law. So one evening he had seven large crucifixes removed from lecture halls where they had hung since the school's founding in the twenties. Days later, a group of parents entered the school and hung more crosses. The administrator promptly had these taken down as well. The next day two-thirds of the school's six hundred students staged a sit-in. When heavily armed riot police arrived, the students were forced into the streets. Then they marched, crucifixes held high, to a nearby church where they were joined by twenty-five hundred other students from nearby schools for a morning of prayer in support of the protest. Soldiers surrounded the church. But the pictures from inside of students holding crosses high above their heads flashed around the world. So did the words of the priest who delivered the message to the weeping congregation that morning. "There is no Poland without a cross." Chuck Colson, Kingdoms in Conflict, pp. 202-3. All heaven is interested in the cross of Christ, all hell is terribly afraid of it, while men are the only beings who more or less ignore its meaning. Oswald Chambers.
DOING LIFE: Daily Devotions For Finding Peace in Stressful Times

Today we are going to talk about how temptations prepare us for service and ministry. Jesus was prepared for His temptation in the wilderness. In chapter 3, He was obedient in baptism, He was praying, He was anointed by the Spirit, and now in Luke 4:1, He was filled with the Holy Spirit. There is no way that we can avoid temptation! Whenever we become a follower of Jesus Christ we become an enemy of Satan. And when we determine to serve Jesus we become a target for the devil. Satan tempts us to bring out the worst in us, but God can use these difficult experiences to put the best into us. Temptation is Satan's weapon to defeat us, but it can become God's tool to build us. We must remember that temptation itself is not sin. The solicitation by the devil for us to sin or to do evil is not sin. It is only when we yield or surrender to the temptation that it becomes sin. James tells us about this in James 1:13-16, “Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.” Mark's Gospel says that Jesus was “driven by the Spirit into the wilderness” (Mark 1:12). Luke says He was “led by the Spirit into the wilderness”. To be filled with the Holy Spirit means that we have yielded our will and our lives to the control and authority of the Holy Spirit. We recognize that, “our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in us, whom we have from God, and we are not your own? For we were bought at a price; therefore we glorify God in our body and in our spirit, which are God's” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). In other words, like Oswald Chambers puts it: “We have given up the only right we have, and that is the right to give up the right of ourselves to God”. We have determined to present our body to God as a living sacrifice like Romans 12:1-2 says: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Temptation in itself is not sin as we said. You can't help it when the bird flies over your head, but when it begins to make a nest in your hair you can do something about it. James also tells us in James 1:2-4, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” The temptation here has to do with trials and tribulations and the difficulties that we encounter in life. Trials and temptations actually are tools that the Lord uses to prepare us for ministry and a life of service! And what the devil means for evil, God can use for good (Genesis 50:20). Paul states this same truth in Romans 5:2-5, “Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” We must be prepared for the trials of life and the temptations of the devil by being filled with the Spirit and led by the Spirit, but we must also realize that temptations prepared us for more service, greater and more effective ministry. Yes, my friend, as we learn from Jesus' example, we can be an overcomer and enjoy victory every day through the power of ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives! God bless!
This is part two of the last episode. I didn't set out to write a second part, but this episode explains how it came about. This episode was written on my reflections on Oswald Chambers' devotion for August 26th. His insight really provoked my thinking. You will be tempted to approach this subject as a cliche, if you have been a follower of Christ for a length of time. Don't! Do you feel like you get stuck when it comes to making decisions? If you want to seek God first in your business but struggle to hear His voice or discern His plans, that's a normal thing. Chambers had an outlook on seeing things clearly in our minds and of course, my brain went to how we apply this in entrepreneurship. If you're ready to find clarity in your business decisions you will love this episode! I can't even say how many times I have run ahead of God and made bad decisions, but I also can't even say how many times I've sat stuck and unmoving to make a decision because I was waiting for total clarity. Like Matthew 11:25 reminds us- think like a child, rely on Him. the term “sheep” has a negative stigma as does the word “obey.” But be humble, and if you believe that God has your best interest at heart and that you cannot fail with him, why wouldn't you surrender it all and follow Him? In Florida this week, we have been experiencing a lot of thunder. This brought my attention to Psalm 29 where David assures us that the thundering we hear is the voice of our Heavenly Father. At the end of Psalm 29, David tells us that we can have Shalom in the midst of the storm. A reading from Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest assures us that the clouds are but the dust of our Heavenly Father's footsteps. Where we see clouds, we can be reassured that our Father is nearby.
