The wonderful Major Jud Bahadur Gurung bada joins me on this weeks Ek Chin with… podcast! He shares about his family, their military background, growing up in Singapore and recruitment in the Gurkhas as a boy soldier. Major Jud has also played a key role in the Gurkha campaigns in the recent past. He will be representing the collective Gurkha groups in the Government to Government talk between Nepal and Britain on the grievances raised following the Gurkha Satyagraha hunger strike campaign led by Gyan Raj Rai, Dhan Gurung and Pushpa Rana Ghale in 2021. The talks were expected to start in late 2021, however the Gurkha groups are still waiting for a date of the meeting. (The podcast was recorded in early April, 2022). Director Pradeep Shahi joins Lex to talk about his first debut film Gurkha: Beneath the Bravery. The crowdfunded film which premiered in England in late 2021 is scheduled for a New York premiere on 16th April followed by a Nepal release later in the year. Director Shahi speaks about the challenges of pursuing the arts and his feelings towards the Gurkhas discourse. The up and coming director has won several short film awards and his resume includes working on the production for Hollyoaks, a well-known British television drama.
