In this episode we're joined by Gary Farnes, one of our original community members. Gary has been with us from the start, and we've also been there for him on the start of his journey too. From starting running by joining a Need for Speed course, Gary's marathon journey began with the London Marathon and running it virtually in the miserable wet and cold day in 2020. Gary went on to run all 6 majors, represent GB in duathlon and complete Ironman Hamnburg in the middle of this all as well. He completed his 6 star journey only last month at New York marathon and we caught up with him to chat about how he's feeling it's all over and what's next after this wonderful adventure. Also, if we didn't already mention Gary is 63 and with a marathon PB of 3:17, it goes to show that with the right people around you, the right training plan and structure and the right determination, planning and passion - anything is possible!! We have one final episode of the year coming out next week. Thank you for your continued support of the podcast and we'll see you in 2026! Send us a textThis week on the Agegroup Multisport Podcast, we're joined by the incredible Jo O'Regan—a world-class runner turned Ironman powerhouse with one of the most refreshingly honest journeys in endurance sport.Jo's story starts on the roads, where she built an elite marathon career: wins at Chester, New Forest, and Edinburgh, podium finishes at Manchester, a top-5 at London, and a blistering 2:40 PB at the 2022 London Marathon. She ran for England and earned an invite to the Kew Gardens Olympic Trials—only for injury to pull the rug out at the peak of her running form. What came next changed everything.Forced to pivot, Jo threw herself into swimming, then cycling, and by late 2021 signed up for her first ever triathlon—Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz. She didn't just finish… she came 3rd, qualified for Kona, and caught the Ironman bug hard (despite imposter syndrome, no TT bike, and zero triathlon experience). We dive into the mindset shift from pure runner to all-round triathlete, dealing with setbacks and mechanicals (including a heartbreaking DNF at Roth), and leaning into strengths while owning weaknesses. Jo also shares her unique and fearless approach to swimming, racing long-distance triathlons entirely breaststroke—clocking a 1:14 swim at Outlaw and 1:19 non-wetsuit at Kona. This episode is about resilience, reinvention, and rewriting the rules of what “doing it right” in triathlon really means. If you've ever felt like an imposter, struggled with injury, or wondered if it's too late to pivot—this one's for you.Follow Jo on Instagram - @jo_oregan_runsYou Can Follow us onYouTube - AMP GBInstagram @amp_podcastFacebook : Richard Joseph Conwayfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

In this episode of Psychologically Speaking, Leila talks with marketer, community-builder and marathon-in-training Hannah Isted, about her 2026 goals. Together, they explore how ambitious stretch goals like scaling a marketing membership and finishing the London Marathon in a faster time, require the same core ingredients: consistency, accountability, community, and strategic planning. This conversation blends the worlds of business growth, running, and mindset coaching, showing how transferable skills like contingency planning, habit building, and overcoming self-sabotage can fuel both entrepreneurial success and marathon training.Hannah shares the motivation behind her bold business goals, the momentum built over four years of consistent work, and the commitment to focusing solely on membership growth. She also talks about how a strong community, from her business audience to her running partners, keeps her accountable and inspired.Switching gears into marathon training, Leila and Hannah explore the running mindset, the role of audiobooks and podcasts in staying motivated, the importance of “time on feet,” and why you don't need to reinvent the wheel in training. They discuss everything from speed work, consistency, and progress tracking to the quiet ways self-sabotage can creep into big goals.Whether you're an entrepreneur scaling a community, a runner training for a marathon, or someone trying to build better habits in your everyday life, this episode is full of practical insights, inspiring stories, and grounded strategies.
From the winding trails of Wendover Woods to the sun-scorched switchbacks of Arizona's Black Canyon 100K, Joseph Turner runs with purpose, grit, and a story in every stride. From his early days chasing splits through the Chilterns to representing Great Britain on the international stage, Joseph brings insight, honesty, and a few trail-tested laughs.Links to friends, partners, sponsors & discount codes - https://linktr.ee/teaandtrails?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=1c86b2f1-b04b-4dab-bd2f-dddf47358fa3XMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFENIX LIGHT LTD - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/PROTEIN REBEL - Use code Tea15 for 15% off your first order - https://proteinrebel.com/PRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION - https://visit.pfandh.com/3GKxHjUPRECISION FUEL & HYDRATION PLANNER - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zHARRIER - Use code TEAS10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.avln.me/c/qXhnTgIdEMeaContent may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you. What are the perfect ingredients for a stress-free Christmas? How do you render the Arctic in song? And what does it sound like when we drink from each other's teats? … Just three of the hot topics being debated in our annual festive knees-up! Joining Olly Mann, Alix Fox and Ollie Peart this year, we welcome back family mediator Nick Coffer - who confronts the strains of a post-divorce Christmas with compassionate advice - and we enjoy extraordinary live music from cellist and poet Sarah Smout. Plus, fresh updates from some of our favourite guests of 2026: Rebecca Dowdeswell, the woman who took on L'Oreal; Armin Samii, who created distance-monitoring app UberCheats; and wildland firefighter Nathan Bell. Until our next episode on January 10th, have a fantastic Christmas, a very Happy New Year, and - if you can afford to - remember to support our independent podcast to fund another great year of the show. x Olly, Alix, Ollie and Producer Matt P.S. Send us a textA Facebook group started after a post-marathon lull turned into a global home for older women who run—and the stories behind it will make you lace up. We sit down with Sherry, founder of Old Ladies Running, along with Erin and Diane, to explore how a simple idea grew into nearly 18,000 members who celebrate first miles, comeback races, and everything in between. The heart of it isn't PRs; it's the culture: questions welcomed, no snark, real experience shared freely, and support that feels as steady as a training plan.We dig into why this space resonates where others fall short. Many over-50 groups skew male; many women's forums skew young. This community bridges the gap with practical mentorship and warmth—gear tips that actually help, reassurance through injuries, and honest talk about pacing, recovery, and the mental game. You'll hear how “pain-free plus three” accelerates safe returns, why run-walk can be as fast as continuous running with better next-day legs, and how strength training and dynamic warmups prevent nagging setbacks. There's momentum beyond the feed: after a rain-soaked but unforgettable meetup at Flying Pig, we're organizing a West Coast gathering at Rock 'n' Roll San Diego with multiple distances and an easy-to-reach venue. Members share travel hacks, hotel blocks, and discount-hunting strategies so more people can join. Along the way we reflect on growing up pre- or early-Title IX, claiming visibility as older athletes, and the quiet power of showing up for each other—whether it's a turkey trot, a Disneyland 10K, or a London Marathon charity bib.If you're craving a kinder running space and a push to try the next distance—without the pressure—this conversation is your sign. Coming from the man who invented “charades on the radio” years ago (spoiler: it was rubbish) Primordial's very own Dewsbury now brings you ”An Audio Unboxing” to similar levels of success. There's a reason folks do this on video.https://links.primordialradio.com/listenNot to be deterred, this week Moose and Dews cover all sorts of topics, including Xmas presents, merch, and a potential Primordial event that may or may not be held in Dunky The Retired Goth's living room! (He doesn't know about this yet)They also discuss Moose's ongoing training plan for the London Marathon, but the real issue this week is with AI. The subject of AI-created music is a hot topic at present and - unbeknown to Dews - Primordial has already played several fully AI-created songs. Ruth Wilson MBE has made a habit of tackling psychologically demanding roles. You'll know her from playing a mother grieving the loss of her child in The Affair, a sociopathic research scientist in Luther or even from her acclaimed stage performances in Anna Christie and King Lear. Now, Wilson is back with Apple TV's Down Cemetery Road, based on novels by Mick Herron. She stars opposite Emma Thompson, as an art restorer swept up in a high stakes crime drama. We talk about her getting rejected from Oxford University, her failure to run the London Marathon in the way she envisaged and the power of aging naturally. Plus: how her father's Alzheimer's diagnosis has helped her live in the present. A beautiful and intelligent conversation with a phenomenally talented actor. ✨ IN THIS EPISODE: 00:00 Introduction 02:11 The Power of Art 04:07 Working with Emma Thompson 07:04 Aging Naturally 08:57 Getting Rejected From Oxford 14:04 Grandfather Being a Spy & a Bigamist 20:21 A Very Royal Scandal 23:36: The London Marathon 31:37 Failing to Trust The Creative Process 38:30 The 24-Hour Play

After a summer of discontent and rebellions around welfare reform, the government has announced how it will look into the future of Personal Independence Payments (Pip) with the Timms Review, named after the Government minister in charge. That Minister is Sir Stephen Timms and he joins Emma to reveal who will be working with him on the review and how you can get involved. He also admits delays with Access to Work are getting worse, not better. Natasha Bloor had no idea she would be making headlines when she decided to train as a hairdresser. Disabled influencer Eliza Rain, aka Disabled Eliza, also joins Emma Tracey in the studio to chat about what she does, and rolling, not running, the London Marathon. Author, writer and journalist Duncan Craig joins Rick and Ben to talk about his recent attempt to race his younger self. 24-year-old Duncan ran the London Marathon in a time of 3:23, but 25 years later, can he beat that time? Well, you'll have to listen to find out, but more importantly (as with most running challenges) the lessons learned getting to the start line was much more significant than the end result. We've heard about the placebo effect, when belief in a treatment makes us feel better, but what do you know about the nocebo effect? It's when our negative expectations of a treatment, medicine or procedure - or even mistrust of our health care services - can actually make us feel worse. And it's a growing area of scientific research.A landmark change to the Family Courts has been announced today - the court will no longer work on the presumption that having contact with both parents is in the best interest of the child. Domestic abuse campaigners have said the move will save children's lives. Claire Throssel MBE is one of the campaigners who has driven this change. In October 2014 her two sons, Jack, who was 12 and Paul, who was nine, were deliberately killed by their father. He had been awarded five hours weekly access to the boys despite Claire's warnings that he was a danger to them. Earlier this month, for the first time, every match across England's top two tiers of women's football was photographed exclusively by female photographers. So how important is it that breakthrough moments in women's sport are captured and told through the eyes of women? Eileen Langsley is a pioneering sports photographer who has captured moments from some of the world's biggest sporting events over the last five decades, and Morgan Harlow was part of the all-female photography team for the Women's Super League.Long queues for the toilets are something women are very used to, whilst often watching the men dash in and out quickly. Amber Probyn and Hazel McShane are two women who are trying to resolve this issue, having invented flat packed ‘female urinals,' which have already been deployed at Glastonbury and the London Marathon. They've just secured almost £1m investment, enabling them to take their invention around the world.
