Literary Bitchcraft is a literary analysis podcast where we bitch about books and book adjacent topics. It’s a study of friendship and the written word. We all come from a bookselling background, which is how we met and formed a book club which transpired into the podcast we know today. Though not all of us are booksellers anymore, we still share a love of reading and one single brain cell. New episode every Friday! Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hey guys! This episode is a literary deep dive into "She Who Became the Sun" by Shelley Parker-Chan! Sorry for being MIA for a month, Alexis does the edits and had the flu back to back with covid! She saw Nicole during her very brief days of health, and somehow gave her: FLURONA! Didn't know that was a thing, but Nicole DOES have mutant superpowers now. Please enjoy a longer ep and we'll see you guys next week!
We're the villains because we take like half an hour to get to the book. If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio is one of our faves, and we think it'll be one of yours too!
Heyyyyyyy bitches! First half of this episode is dedicated to breaking down First Kill, it's wrongful cancellation, and the wonderful short story it's based on by V.E. Schwab. The second half of this episode is a slow, paralyzing descent into madness that includes Nicole's teeth, dead Catholic grandmas and Laura getting the local plague. So a very normal episode. Enjoy!
Hey bitches and witches, tis the season for zombies, ghouls, and three girls! It's spooky season but it's also season three release day. This recording is from March, post Nicole getting covid and pre Laura getting covid (Alexis is till the pinnacle of health if you ignore her watery bowels, as Sarah J Maas would say.) This episode is all about catching up on what we've read in our nine month absence (no babies were made, except for season three.) We discuss a lot in this one, but I somehow still had to edit out over thirty minutes of getting yelled at for missing brunch. We missed you guys!
Hey bitches! In this episode of Literary Bitchcraft we discuss fanfiction. Laura and Alexis dive into the history, it's current impacts, and the future possibilities of the internet's favorite literary device. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
We're back!!!! And we're discussing Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern! Nicole and Laura (Laura murdered Alexis, RIP) discuss their favorite parts of the book, the definition of magical realism and the books they've read in the genre, Disneyland and how NFTs are indeed like kohls cash. Alexis' ghost only regrets not being there to defend New Girl as it's slandered (Schmidt stans rise up! :( but sit down for this episode :( but rise up later when Alexis comes back!) Also this episode is a bit quiet, because Alexis is tech and she was dead :( so, to quote Trace Adkins, Honkey Tonk Badonkadonk: Turn it up some. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi bitches! This is a wrap up covering what we read in September and October, but it gets VERY unwrapped. Somehow, we discuss monster fucking, the mythos surrounding the female gaze, superiority of female authors, the different ways that authors handle female pain, and yeah, I guess what we read a little bit. It's our most analytical episode yet, while somehow being our most off track. Hope you enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi everyone! Happy late Halloween! To dedicate an episode to our favorite spooky season, we discuss the history of vampires and how they've grown culturally! We talk Catholic guilt, the Cullen's Mormonism, and how window climbing lesbian's set the tone for it all. Enjoy and we'll see you next week! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
In this episode Laura and Alexis discuss "Red, White and Royal Blue" by Casey McQuiston! They compare it a little to "One Last Stop" but we promise, this is much less hectic episode and we actually discuss the book and not just Alexis' doo doo ass. We hope you enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi everyone! In this episode Laura and Alexis finally get to talk about writing! We have recorded this episode three times with an unfortunate smelting accident that kills it at the end every single time. Yet this one survived! We talk about our journey through becoming writers and where we're at now with it (not very far, but we're having fun!) Enjoy and talk to you soon! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi everyone! This week we (being Laura and Alexis ONLY) finally get to talk about Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat!! There will be a trigger warning listed at the bottom of the info box, please read before listening! We get to discuss C.S. Pacat and the wonderful princes they wrote about that so wholeheartedly ended up capturing US (ONLY LAURA AND ALEXIS.) Also, Nicole is missing (she is safe don't worry.) Somehow this is our longest episode at an hour and forty five minutes even though we've mentioned this book at least a dozen times in season one. We hope you enjoy and we'll see you guys next week! Trigger Warning: this episode heavily covers topics such as rape, molestation, child prostitution and death. We have an entire full ten minute discussion regarding the way that rape is viewed through the lens of Captive Prince vs other media and if you feel like any of these would make you uncomfortable please skip this episode, or stop listening by the one hour mark if you don't want to hear the detailed discussion. You guys being comfortable is always what's most important to us, as well as having these conversations that don't always feel easy and we try to balance that when creating these. Thanks for listening! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi everyone! In this quick little episode we introduce ourselves, give some fun facts, and talk a little bit about our reading preferences. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Well damn, it looks like the groom's bride really is a whore. Today, we discuss Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. We're all a little in love with Darlington, Hellie, Pam and Alex, but who isn't? This story inspired us to read, write, weep, and once again talk about how much we love the (bitch)craft of literature as a whole! Let us know what you think about hearing from us on Mondays and we'll see you next week! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hi all! Sorry this episode is late, but we get to talk Twilight in it! Laura and Alexis as the local degree holders on all things Twilight (By Stephanie Meyer) answer all of Nicole's venom-induced burning questions surrounding the saga. This is one of the few times we stay insanely on track, and we're only mildly ashamed of that. See ya'll on Friday! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
In this episode we talk about all the books we purchased this summer with a summer bookhaul! We also discuss a little bit about the comic book knowledge we've gained since our episode about them earlier in the season, how good Of Blood and Ash is so far and Nicole picking some romances (whether on accident or on purpose!) Love ya'll and happy Friday! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Happy Friday! In this episode we discuss what graphic novels and comics we've read and plan on reading. We also talk about how intimidating it is to get into traditional comics, Canadian 2000s hit kid TV shows, and V.E. Schwabs abilities to write such a vast variety of characters. Oh, and Saga, Saga, Saga. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hiiii!!! In this week's episode we talk about One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston! Who's name (and book name) we struggle so desparately to pronounce. This episode is a little all over the place, and we also discuss shittin, fartin, and type a personality types. Nicole also opens us up with a smooth asthmatic episode. So a normal lit bitch week! We hope you enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/literarybitchcraft/support
Hiiii!!! We're back! We talk a little bit about what we read while we were gone and what we plan on reading in the upcoming month.
