"It's a weird combination that makes a great picture. It's a complete mystery to me." -- Alec Soth "A portrait isn't a fact but an opinion—an occasion rather than a truth." -- Richard Avedon In this episode, Antonio and Ward reflect on the recent passing of Martin Parr, talking through what they've long admired about his work, his move from black-and-white to color, his time at Magnum, and the way he photographed everyday life without smoothing out its edges. The conversation also drifts into a new idea Antonio picked up by accident at a Christmas market in Nebraska, where he connected with a nonprofit that helps formerly incarcerated people train for work in professional kitchens. He talks about why that idea stuck with him and how he's imagining photographing the space—both behind the scenes and through more formal portraits made in the kitchen itself. Speed skating becomes another thread, with Ward unpacking his weekend shooting a World Cup event in Calgary. Autofocus frustrations, missed shots, and the value of reviewing a rough first day all lead to a shift toward slower shutter speeds and motion-based images that felt more honest than frozen action frames. The episode also circles back to their previous conversation with motorsports photographer Jamey Price, offering a clearer recap of some of the racing terms and technical references that came up, grounding the discussion for listeners who may not live in that world. Is this a gym, or a dance studio? Thanksgiving and the whipped cream embargo. I'm not into this new AFI album, but everybody else apparently is. Landman Season 2 is upon us, and I finally caught that "American Primeval" series on Netflix. If you really want to get into the spirit of these new modern western series, you should flagellate yourself while you watch them. I went to see The Thing and pissed 115x. I shot a .357 Magnum and fell in love, and I went to see Roger Deakins speak at a screening of a gorgeous movie he shot, and then promptly made an ass of myself in front of one of my favorite directors. Quentin Tarantino shit talks Paul Dano, and Mel Gibson has an ugly black British wife for no conceivable reason in "Fat Man." (Yep, you guessed it – Netflix!)
Listen in on Dan's conversation with a woman who learned that her husband had an affair early in their relationship. It turns out she's been chatting with the other woman for a year without knowing it was her! She lives up the street! Dan advises her on whether to broach the subject with her husband's ex-lover. A woman loves receiving anal sex so much, that she comes immediately and then needs her husband to get outta there. How can she prolong both of their pleasure? On the Magnum, Mpox cases are on the rise worldwide. Dan brings on queer sexual health teacher Dr. Carleton Thomas to give us the scoop. He was a clear and steady source of information during the first Mpox outbreak, and he's here guide us today. Finally, a middle-aged straight man who "broad"casts his feminist allyship on social media has a gaggle of younger women he's collected from his comments section who all expressed interest in him. He *may* want to try to commit to one of them, but doesn't want to make mistakes from his past. If he chooses just one, how can he "not get bored and fuck it all up?" 206-302-2064 Q@Savage.Love This episode is brought to you by Helix Sleep. Right now, Helix is offering 27% off site wide. She dated her neighbor for a while, until it became clear that she couldn't enjoy sex with him because his giant, massive, gargantuan penis was too big for her. Now that she is starting to date other men, should she tell them the history of her friendly neighbor 5 doors down? A woman has enjoyed friends-with-benefits relationship with a man where all they do is cuddle and have sex. No outings with friends. No movies. No hikes. Now that he is beginning to get serious with another woman, can they maintain this friendship *without* the benefits? On the Magnum, a very miserable woman considers doing sex work after applying for hundreds of jobs with no results. Dan brings on Ashley Bloomberg- a sex researcher who recently published a paper on the reasons sex workers in Las Vegas pursued their careers. The difference between doing sex work under duress vs. doing sex work out of genuine desire is stark. And, it's the nightmare scenario: A queer, polyamorous woman dating a trans woman has a 14 year-old son who has gone full conservative Christian on her. The lad thinks that sex outside of marriage is an unforgivable sin. What is going on with him, and how can the caller bring him to a more kind and reasonable mindset? Parecia dia. Segundo ele, “essas senhoras me ensinaram que a vida segue.
Ivana Mulatero"Jean Gaumy.

A mother's challenge: her 12 year-old son's lesbian friend (who isn't out to her parents,) said that she was into gooning. Right in front of her! The mom wants to be an ally, but also would like them to back off on the oversharing. Sometimes on a sex advice podcast, you have to call a veterinarian. A man's new girlfriend, (a professed "animal lover,") lets the cat hump her leg to completion. He thinks this is kind of gross. Dan brings on a veterinarian from Seattle's Urban Animal to confirm if it is indeed "gross." On the Magnum, we all know that LENGTH DOES NOT MATTER. But what about... girth? Sex researcher Dr. Debby Herbenick is on to talk about the physiology of female pleasure. Also, she and Dan discuss the continuing bewildering popularity of choking. A woman has a fantastic, indulgent, skilled lover. She is loud but non-verbal when she comes. He wants to know exactly when she is going over the falls. How can she let him know without having to say "NOW!" You should ask Dan a question NOW! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rebuilding Entries!: Listener David: Sorry I didn't make it into the first round, I always seem behind when you guys announce an entry show. Here are my plans to rebuild my pistol collection with $5,000. I am assuming no shipping, tax, or transfer fees on any of these. Most of my pricing is an average from Gunbroker, picking the first 2 or 3 completed and roughly averaging them together. I want to bookend with not really cheats this time. First up is a Mac-5 mp5 clone as a large format pistol. Atlantic firearms has them for $1,010 but I paid $975 for mine last year. Roller delayed 9mm is sweet. Next up is a blued Smith & Wesson Model 25 in 45 Colt with a 6 inch barrel. The less known Irish twin of the 29. $775 For carry, I would pick up another Hellcat Pro in 9mm. $550 For backup carry, I am adding an LCP Max in .380 $300 Next up is a Tisas 1911. These are on Gunbuyer.com for $320 To scratch my big bore itch, I picked a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in 44 Magnum with a 7.5 inch barrel. $800 on gunbroker. I suppose for "big-ish" bore? A Hi-point JXP in 10mm. Just bought one for $129 from RK guns on sale but I see $150 would buy one quite easily. Next, but not growing a man-bun for it, a CZ75B in 9mm. $550 My last choice is a bit of a cheat, I would buy a build kit from Maf-arms.com (shout out to Matt) for a G19 clone for $221.33 and since the frame would cost roughly $3 to print, that leaves me just over $300 for a 3D printer. Also the BB19 from Broken Bullets is the best grip for the 3D printed Glock, change my mind! To be honest, I am pretty happy with what I have now, so many of these would be re-buying old friends. There are a couple of things I would probably do differently, but it's minimal. Thank you all for the show. ======================================================================== Listener Russell: Hi, I've been listening for about a year. I found the idea of rebuilding my collection super intriguing. I've bought and sold/traded so many. I think now I know exactly what I'd need bare minimum in a collection. So first, I'm replacing my edc. A Shield Plus in 9mm for $420. No doubt absolutely the best all around carry gun I've ever had. Then I'm replacing my Bodyguard 2.0 $400. The most fun gun I've ever bought. It's crazy how usable it is for the size. Now the rest I don't currently own but these are what I'd get if I had to start over. For home defense id get: A Smith&Wesson M&P 2.0 with the 4.6” barrel in 10mm $625.

Years before a free album made them the most unpopular popular band on the planet, U2 ran into the arms of America. In 1987, touring behind their blockbuster album The Joshua Tree, their songs became lightning rods for violence. They received death threats in the States and became targets of terrorists back in their native Ireland. But it was the song “Exit,” written from the POV of a killer, that was linked with pure evil. That song allegedly inspired a man to hop an overnight bus to Los Angeles, carrying a loaded .357 Magnum and a copy of The Joshua Tree, ready to do whatever it took to meet the women he was obsessed with. In this episode of the Guns Podcast, hosts Brent Wheat and Roy Huntington delve into the controversial .327 Magnum cartridge, discussing its merits and drawbacks. They explore the realities of recoil and muzzle blast, particularly in home defense scenarios, and emphasize the importance of real-world shooting experience. The conversation highlights the need for informed decisions regarding caliber choices and the impact of shooting dynamics in high-stress situations. Takeaways The .327 Magnum has a dedicated fanbase but is often misunderstood. Recoil can significantly affect shooting performance, especially in defensive situations. Home defense requires careful consideration of caliber and its effects on hearing and vision. Real-world shooting experience is crucial for understanding firearm effectiveness. Placement of shots is more important than caliber size in defensive situations. Muzzle blast and recoil can impair your ability to respond effectively in a crisis. Training in dynamic environments can reveal the limitations of theoretical knowledge. The .327 Magnum may be more suitable for small game hunting than self-defense. Shooting without hearing protection can lead to permanent damage. Understanding your firearm's capabilities and limitations is essential for effective use. Brad Watts, the director of marketing for CVA, joins me on the show to talk about the diverse array of muzzleloaders and rifles CVA produces. Of note, CVA currently produces a number of rifles in more esoteric cartridges like 35 Whelen, 444 Marlin, and 400 Legend. Not only that, but they also produce other rifles and muzzleloaders that are in compliance with very specific hunting regulations in states like Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, and Oregon. And finally, they also produce plenty of more conventional rifles and muzzleloaders as well. We discuss this in more detail during this interview along with the specifics of their current production rifles and muzzleloader and what sets the company apart from competitors in the industry. They dive deep into the various hunting rifle and muzzleloader models the company makes, what sets them apart from the competition, and how they offer firearms for hunters in states with very specific regulations (like Idaho and Illinois). Photographer and paranormal researcher Shannon Taggart joins JF and Phil to explore the phenomenon that was Michael Jackson. One of the most brilliant and successful musicians of the modern era, Jackson was also a liminal figure sans pareil, a shapeshifter who defied the binary categories through which we order the human world. His art and persona together enacted a transformation that can only be called shamanic. About Our Guest: Shannon Taggart is a photographer and author based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her photographs have appeared in Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal, and have been recognized by Magnum, Nikon, and the Alexia Foundation. Her monograph Séance was first published by Fulgur Press (2019) and reissued in a second edition by Atelier Éditions. Shannon is currently developing an illustrated history of SORRAT (the Society for Research on Rapport and Telekinesis) and hosts an annual symposium on the weird and the paranormal in Lily Dale, New York.
