How do I fight temptation? How do I stick to my beliefs when I'm at work or with my friends? Has pornography affected anyone else's life but mine? How do I become who God wants me to be? Will I ever feel like I measure up? Why do I feel so alone? If you're a man, a husband, or a father, and you have questions like these then you're in the right place. Husbands, whether you feel like you should or not, you don't have all the answers. The good news is, you're not supposed to. Sometimes as a man, not having the answers or even desiring to ask a question, feels a lot like inadequacy. But the truth is, it's wisdom. Wisdom to know the extent of your knowledge, the humility to not be arrogant or prideful, and the desire to grow and learn. Join Brad @Unrelentingpursuit_ and Chris @expedition_marriage on episode 18, Questions Men Ask, of the Not Your Average Man podcast while we discuss some of these questions and the answers that go with them. Find us on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@notyouraverageman) where you can also answer the question posed in the Podcast and posted in the COMMUNITY section. *** If you're a wife, share this with your husband! ***

You can watch this on YouTube. We are so excited to have a special guest, Gareth Tedford, for a two part series. We are talking about the Five-fold gifts, also known as the Royal Gifts, from Ephesians 4:11-16. So, if you're not sure what those are, you're definitely going to want to hear this episode. It can change the way you see your life in light of the Kingdom. A little about our guests. Gareth became a follower of Jesus at the age of 15 in Northern Ireland. Through college and the early part of his career, opportunities for strategic projects and leadership advancement would often come his way, both in the secular/professional world and in his church/ministry world. After moving as a family to Texas in 2009, Gareth was invited in November 2011 to attend a workshop on the importance of Apostolic gifting in church planting, where he discovered the depth, significance and purpose of the 5-Fold gifts outlined in Ephesians 4:11-16. A section of scripture that he had been reading throughout his life suddenly took on new meaning and life, and a discovery of who God had made him to be suddenly placed his career, family and ministry life into context. And we're hoping that by listening to these episodes, the same amazing insights can happen for you too. In collaboration with staff at his church, Gareth helped curate training materials and has been teaching and coaching on 5-Fold gifting for nearly 10 years, leading workshops and interactive discovery sessions with church leadership teams and small groups. _______________ Links / References: Books / Subject Matter: The Permanent Revolution: by Alan Hirsch & Tim Catchim. https://www.amazon.com/Permanent-Revolution-Apostolic-Imagination-Practice/dp/0470907746/ref=sr_1_1?crid=WJ09KBO81803&keywords=the+permanent+revolution&qid=1673025306&s=books&sprefix=The+Permanent+%2Cstripbooks%2C128&sr=1-1 5Q, by Alan Hirsch. https://www.amazon.com/5Q-Reactivating-Original-Intelligence-Capacity/dp/0998639303/ref=sr_1_1?crid=YP9ZOS1L2OSJ&keywords=5q+alan+hirsch&qid=1673025134&sprefix=5Q+%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-1 The Forgotten Ways, by Alan Hirsch. Society puts a lot of pressure on men to do things just right. There's such a big fear of failure amongst men. We need to find the perfect way to be.. This way is too masculine and toxic, you're being too strong, too tough, but this way is too soft, you're being a pushover, you're not leading at all, …. It's like we have to find the Goldilocks “just right” bed. An average man seeks the world for wisdom on how to be a man. He seeks to become a good man for his own benefit and praise, or he gets paralyzed by fear from the uncertainty and he gives up. An above average man looks to the Lord for guidance on how to be not only a good man, but a Godly one. He is faithful, trustworthy, respected and respectful, and he is completely surrendered to the Lord. Go be more than just an average good man, be an above average Godly man. Men are fixers. Research shows that when we're able to identify and talk about our emotions we move them from the amygdala (the fight, flight or freeze, or the reactive center of the brain) to the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is rational and able to solve problems. If you want to fix problems, you need to actually DO what fixes them. And that means, like it or not, we have talk about our emotions. Chris went all the way from Greece to Japan and back just to avoid conflict. Sure, it was for lunch at Epcot, but there still is quite a bit of distance between the two. Believe it or not, many men would go to even more extreme lengths to avoid conflict or to avoid an upset wife. You might even be one of them. On today's episode Chris not only confesses his struggle in life as a passive husband, but he's also sharing all the different ways it affected his marriage and his children, and what steps he took to “recover”. If you think you might struggle with passivity, there's hope. You don't need to always settle for what everyone else wants. There really is a better way. Join us to learn what it is!
