Jesus addresses hypocrisy in the Sermon on the Mount, focusing on our motives behind giving, prayer, and fasting. He warns against performing religious acts to gain human approval rather than pleasing God. True spirituality happens in secret, where only God sees our hearts. We must examine whether we would still practice our faith if no one ever knew about it. Living for an audience of One means being authentic in our devotion, removing our masks, and responding to God's love with genuine spiritual practices.

Got your own ghost town story or local legend? We'd love to feature it in an upcoming show—reach out to us through our website or social media. Welcome back, all you ghost hunters, history lovers, and seekers of the strange! On this episode of the 222 Paranormal Podcast, we're exploring a lesser-known but deeply haunted side of Ohio—its ghost towns. You may not think of Ohio when you think of eerie abandoned places, but the Buckeye State is filled with long-forgotten towns where whispers of the past still echo through the woods, fields, and empty buildings. These aren't just abandoned communities—they're home to some of the most chilling ghost stories in the Midwest. Ohio's ghost towns were once thriving villages, mining outposts, or utopian communities, now reduced to little more than crumbling foundations, moss-covered cemeteries, and overgrown roads. But in many of these towns, the dead didn't leave when the living moved out. First, we take you deep into the heart of Moonville, a remote 19th-century coal mining town hidden in the forests of Vinton County. Today, only a few foundations and the iconic Moonville Tunnel remain, but paranormal activity is rampant. The most famous spirit is that of a lantern-carrying ghost said to have been struck by a train—many visitors report seeing a glowing light bobbing in the distance and hearing disembodied footsteps echo through the tunnel at night. Is it the spirit of a railroad worker, or something more sinister? Next, we turn to Boston Mills, better known in urban legend circles as Helltown. Located in Summit County, this area was partially evacuated in the 1970s when the government acquired the land for the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. But the lack of public explanation left a vacuum that filled quickly with rumors: tales of Satanic cults, mutant creatures, ghostly children, and cursed roads. Is it just a case of folklore run wild, or are the spirits of the displaced still making their presence known? Then there's Utopia, Ohio, a riverside community in Clermont County founded by spiritualists in the 1800s. Designed to be a utopian society, the town's dreams were washed away—literally—by a tragic flood that killed dozens. Today, the few remaining structures and nearby riverbanks are said to be haunted by spirits who perished in that disaster, still searching for peace that eluded them in life. We'll also touch on lesser-known but equally spooky spots like Mineral, San Toy, and Tadmor, ghost towns with rich histories and reports of unexplained noises, shadowy figures, and strange lights. From the whispers of miners who never clocked out to the children heard laughing in the ruins of old schools, these towns may have lost their populations—but gained eternal residents. In this episode, we dive into: The true history behind Ohio's ghost towns and their rise and fall Eyewitness accounts from paranormal investigators and visitors Common threads between these locations that may explain their hauntings Why abandoned places seem to attract and hold spiritual energy If you're into legends, forgotten history, and spine-chilling stories that will have you double-checking your rearview mirror on the way home, this episode is for you. Ohio may seem quiet on the surface, but it has a haunted heart that beats beneath the soil. So light some sage, grab your gear, and join us on a journey through the haunted ghost towns of Ohio. You'll learn, you'll shiver—and you might just want to visit these places yourself… if you're brave enough. Whether it's procrastination, perfectionism, or people-pleasing, this episode will deepen your self awareness.Key Takeaways:Self-sabotage often stems from ingrained mental patterns called saboteurs, rooted in survival mechanisms developed during childhood. The master saboteur, "The Judge," criticizes you, others, and circumstances, often working alongside accomplice saboteurs to amplify self-doubt and unproductive behaviors. The 9 accomplice saboteurs include The Controller, Avoider, Hyper-Achiever, Pleaser, Stickler, Hyper-Rational, Hyper-Vigilant, Restless, and Victim, each with distinct behaviors and impacts.Awareness of your saboteurs is the first step toward breaking these patterns and shifting toward more empowering behaviors.Tools like the free saboteur assessment can provide clarity on which saboteurs dominate your thinking and how to address them effectively."Your saboteurs are not a reflection of your value—they're simply patterns you've developed over time, and with awareness, they can be changed."- Karen GombaultSelf-sabotage may feel like an unavoidable part of leadership, but it doesn't have to be. By recognizing the saboteurs at play and taking intentional steps to address them, you can lead with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose. Start today by building awareness and taking the free saboteur assessment linked in the show notes. Camila Cabello's "CXOXO" album kicked off with a hyper pop-tinged lead single, immediately causing comparisons to Charli XCX. This episode discusses how goalposts in pop music are changing as music becomes more conversational online and less about Top 40 appeal. We explore how Camila's artistic pivot isn't about chasing another Señorita or Havana, but about carving a niche within online music stans. Despite high-profile features with Drake and Lil Nas X, slick production from Jasper Harris, and tabloid buzz surrounding Sabrina Carpenter and Shawn Mendes, the album struggles to stick the landing. Is the issue tied to the music itself, the crowded year, albums like "BRAT" in similar lanes, or is something else at play? Tune in as we dissect CXOXO, uncover key moments, and leave you with the tools to form your own verdict.
In this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Jill Peterson, Founder and Chief Growth Strategist at Clover Insights LLC. We discuss how to improve your mental fitness and build positive intelligence, and she explains the differences between your “survival brain” and your “sage brain.” Jill shares why improving your mental fitness leads to greater happiness, increased productivity, and improved mental resilience. What You Will Learn in This Episode: How Jill uses the concept of “sage brain” to enhance happiness and productivity in personal and professional settings Why understanding and managing mental habits, particularly saboteurs, is crucial for overcoming internal barriers What the Positive Intelligence program entails, including practical techniques like PQ reps and how they help develop mental fitness Why integrating positive intelligence practices into daily routines can effectively boost mental resilience without requiring additional time What the role of the “Judge” is in one's mental framework, and how recognizing its influence can prevent it from sabotaging growth and happiness Understanding Mental Fitness This week, we've got a real treat on the #DOTL podcast, as Jill Peterson Founder and Chief Growth Strategist at Clover Insights LLC. explains how to handle life's challenges positively. Jill describes how we can be the best version of ourselves and influence those around us positively. This episode is all about offering you practical strategies to improve your mental fitness for a fresh start as we prepare for a busy holiday season. The Sage Brain vs. The Survival Brain Jill introduces the concept of the “sage brain” and the “survival brain.” The “sage brain” encompasses positive emotions, creativity, empathy, and curiosity, which are so important for addressing life's challenges constructively. On the other hand, the survival brain operates on negativity and judgment, housing nine saboteurs that seriously hinder our potential. Recognizing and managing these two brain modes increases happiness and productivity. By understanding our mental habits and overcoming internal barriers, we can unlock our true potential personally and professionally. One of our key discussions centered around the concept of “saboteurs.” These negative mental patterns or behaviors act alongside an internal judge, sabotaging our growth and happiness. Jill identifies nine types of saboteurs: Controller, Restless, Stickler, Hyper-vigilant, Hyper-achiever, Pleaser, Victim, Avoider, and Hyper-rational. Each saboteur represents a strength overused. For example, the Controller needs to manage every outcome, while the Hyper-rational dismisses emotions, focusing solely on logical analysis. Building Mental Muscles Jill advocates for working out our mental muscles to combat these saboteurs. This involves recognizing saboteurs, using physical sensations to switch brain modes, and tapping into the “sage brain.” Physical sensations act like smaller moments of meditation, helping transition to a more positive mindset. Jill describes the five tools in the sage brain toolbox: Empathy, Explore, Innovate, Navigate, and Activate. Regularly practicing Positive Intelligence repetitions (PQ reps) can strengthen these mental muscles, making it easier to manage life's challenges without falling into negative patterns. Let's explore what it means to align with your truth and find peace in being your authentic self.Episode Summary:In this episode, Dimple Thakrar takes listeners on a personal journey exploring the essence of self-trust and the transformative impact it has on life decisions and relationships. Through candid stories, she reflects on times when she went against her intuition, leading to challenging outcomes. Dimple describes how trusting oneself—being in alignment with one's true nature—attracts more fulfilling experiences and genuine connections.Listeners are introduced to three archetypes that represent different ways of relating to oneself and others: the Pleaser, the Rebel, and the Sovereign. Dimple explains the tendencies of each archetype, from sacrificing one's needs to please others to reclaiming one's power by embodying the Sovereign, who can navigate chaos with inner calm. This framework helps listeners identify where they may be holding themselves back or blaming others for their unhappiness. Dimple shares insights on how moving through these archetypes can lead to self-awareness, peace, and resilience. The episode is a deep dive into self-reflection and growth, encouraging listeners to tune into their intuition and let go of responsibility for others' reactions. Dimple's message is one of empowerment, showing that true self-trust is about embracing discomfort and evolving beyond old patterns.Key Takeaways:Trust Begins Within: Genuine trust in others starts with self-trust. Trusting your intuition brings alignment and clarity.Recognize and Honor Your Archetype: Knowing if you're in the Pleaser, Rebel, or Sovereign mode helps you understand your responses and make empowered choices.Learn From Repeated Patterns: Life sends lessons repeatedly until we learn from them. Embracing these lessons helps shift towards greater self-awareness.Embrace Discomfort as a Growth Tool: Discomfort signals growth; rather than avoiding it, lean in to uncover deeper self-understanding.Choose Peace Over Control: The Sovereign archetype exemplifies self-responsibility, choosing calm and clarity even in challenging situations.Thank you so much for tuning in and joining me on this journey of trust and transformation. Nick Pollard, Born in April of 1980, is a world-renowned coach and speaker specializing in People Pleasing, Codependency, and Addiction. With over 50 million views on his social media channels, Nick has become a thought leader in personal growth and change. He ranks in the top 10% of coaches worldwide. Nick had a (in his own words) less-than-ideal childhood. His father was an alcoholic, workaholic, se* abuser. The latter would later push Nick to his psychological end, which landed him in a hospital in 2009. After that, Nick struggled mightily to hold his life together but could not (or so he felt) battle the mounting demons and turned to drugs and alcohol to solve the problem. It did not solve the problem, and roughly 9 years later, a change had to be made. Nick willingly checked himself into rehab, and the PeopleDisPleaser was born. Since then, Nick has traveled the world, learning and helping others and communicating his journey. His love for seeing people grow and the "light bulb go on and then explode" is what he credits, his drive. Nick has been very successful in business, forming and selling many companies. His first entrepreneurial venture, at age ten, was door sales for his car wash company that would later net him enough money to buy fireworks for the Fourth of July. "My parents said we did not have any money. I knew that was a lie, but I went anyway. I have made my own money since." If you ask Nick what he feels the key to success is, he would say, "Do the work. It is not fashionable or even slightly pretty. Just do the work." He enjoys walking on the beach, working out, and traveling. When he is not on the road, he spends time with his two cats, Azula and Zuko, reading, and working. https://www.instagram.com/thepeopledispleaser/ To connect with Jason click the link below! https://stan.store/Jbirdfit Disclaimer: The training is intended for informational and educational purposes, it is not intended to substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, and/or treatment. Have you ever gone all out to plan a perfect vacation only to be met with ungratefulness and rude behavior from your teens? Do you find yourself constantly trying to make your teens happy, often at the expense of your own needs and desires? In this episode, Colleen O'Grady explores the phenomenon of being a "teen" pleaser—a mom who seeks to satisfy her children, often neglecting her own well-being in the process. Colleen shares stories from several moms who faced disappointment after their efforts to please their teens were met with ingratitude. She discusses the inherent beauty in a mom's desire to please but warns of the pitfalls when this drive goes unchecked. The episode delves into the concept of "The Great Exchange," where moms expect their efforts to be met with gratitude and good behavior and what happens when that doesn't happen. Colleen identifies four key beliefs that can turn a mom into a pleaser: wanting to give their kids what they never had, feeling guilty, fearing their teen's anger, and believing it's selfish to prioritize themselves. The negative impacts of being a pleaser are highlighted, including feeling like a bad mom, disempowerment in parenting, and fostering entitlement in teens. Takeaways: Recognize and Reclaim Balance: Moms need to acknowledge where they are out of balance and start turning their attention back to themselves. This includes understanding their emotions, setting clear boundaries, and practicing self-care. Say No and Mean It: Learning to say no, even in small situations, helps strengthen the ability to set limits and regain control in the parent-child relationship. Seek Support: Finding a trusted confidant or engaging in coaching can provide the necessary support to break the cycle of being a pleaser and foster healthier family dynamics. By following these steps, moms can create a more balanced and empowered approach to parenting, ultimately benefiting both themselves and their teens. Learn more about your ad choices. On this day, the 13 anniversary of my first breast cancer diagnosis, I am reflecting on all the lessons I've learned about caring for myself and prioritizing my healing. I can't help but think about how often I've witnessed myself and my clients feel compelled to please others at the expense of their well-being. This tendency can lead to mistreatment or overextending yourself, even hindering your recovery and overall quality of life. The central message of this podcast is clear: true kindness towards oneself isn't solely about accommodating others at all costs, but rather about asserting boundaries with compassion and self-respect. I want to encourage you to recognize that setting boundaries is not selfish—it's a vital component of self-care and healing. You can cultivate resilience and foster a healthier, more sustainable recovery process by prioritizing your needs and limits. Listen now to gain insights into the transformative power of boundaries, and learn how these principles can empower you to advocate for yourself effectively. Let's talk about the journey from being a people-pleaser to becoming a protector of one's well-being. Your healing journey requires nurturing and self-respect. By prioritizing both presence and connection, they explain how parents can create an environment that nurtures the growth of beautiful little human beings – an inside out job. The three also emphasize the significance of our language choices around children, advocating for curiosity over fury and mindfulness over fear. They also share personal anecdotes from their own experiences as parents, highlighting the impact of screen and other stimulus on children's emotional development, creativity, imagination and worldview.
