Supercultured: Movies, TV, Anime, and Comics

For the rest of the month of May and part of June, we will be discussing legendary Japanese filmmaker/auteur Hayao Miyazaki in an event we are calling Mayazaki! In the first part of this series we discuss one of our favorite films, the underrated classic Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind. This beautiful and influential film features princesses, adventure, monstrously giant pill bugs, and it helped launch Studio Ghibli. What's not to like? For our 50th (ish) Episode, we can't think of a better movie to celebrate this many episodes and two years (!) of podcasting than the latest and greatest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Infinity War. Much like the MCU lead to this film, I feel like our podcast has been leading to this episode, which is by the way full of spoilers. In this spoilerific episode, we talk about David's lifelong obsession with Thanos, Lauren's superior plan to defeat Thanos which is inarguably better than whatever the Avengers came up with, and how many (spoiler) at (even bigger spoiler) end of (SUPER massive spoiler, seriously) waffles.  Get spoiled and celebrate 2 years and 50 episodes of our show as well as 10 years of the MCU with Supercultured!

Today on Supercultured, we discuss a long awaited super-hero cinematic-universe cross-over extraganza. The one everyone has been waiting for, which features a villain who arrives on Earth to combine items of unimaginable power in order to take over the universe, only to run afoul of some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes... that's right I'm talking about Justice League! Why? Which movie did you think I was talking about? Join us as we talk about the latest thorn in what is the lions paw known as the DC Cinematic Universe. Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight and/or ever wondered where he got those wonderful toys? Well if so, this latest episode of Supercultured is for you. This time, we are discussing the mother of all comic book movies, Batman. We will be talking about what made this movie so special and what is the last legacy of this film, but we will specifically be highlighting one of the greatest villain performances of all time, Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Today on Supercultured we will be discussing Legend and specifically one of our favorite villains of all time, Darkness as played by the legend himself, Tim Curry. It's good to be the king on this episode of Supercultured as we give our reaction to the latest offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther. Join us as we say 'Remember that scene? The catch of the day here on Supercultured is The Little Mermaid! No, not that one, this is the 1975 anime version of the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that Lauren fished out of the briny deep for us to watch. There are some similarities with the 1989 Disney version though, and some of us here at Supercultured think it may have been on porpoise. Join us for a deep dive as we travel the ocean with Marina and Fritz and learn about Denmark via Japan and how you are supposed to treat living things. We'll have a whale of a time!

This week on Supercultured we discuss the latest in what now can be called the Star Wars Extended Cinematic Universe, and that movie is Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It's the first Star War we have discussed at length on the podcast and we are more excited than a Wookie on Life Day. Join us as we drink tea and discuss the finer points of Episode 8 while lifting rocks with our minds.
