Superhero movies? Oh, go on then. A pair of very different projects take centre stage here, at different ends of the budget spectrum.2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was a pivotal movie for Warner Bros, and a big screen showdown that it'd first attempted nearly 20 years previously. This time, director Zack Snyder was effectively charged with leading the fightback against Marvel and its cinematic universe - and his Batman/Superman showdown would have plenty of ramifications. In the case of 1996's The Phantom, here was a lower budget superhero outing, where the price was chopped just weeks ahead of filming. Joe Dante had originally been set to direct, and Simon Wincer would step in. But 10 days away from release, the boss of Paramount was very aware few people had heard of the movie...Stories of both are told in this episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
When we were kids, we all took our action figures and bashed them together as if those characters would actually have reason to fight. In a lot of those cases, the dialogue we made up in our heads for those action figures was probably better than what ended up in some superhero films. But don't worry, no need to bash anything here because we're about to venture into the world of DC and see if Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is not that bad. Special guest: Lyle Robichaud. After almost a year of going through all things cinematic involving Krypton's favorite son, it's come down to this. A review of a movie we have reviewed before. But this time, instead of telling it from Batman's point of view, this review of Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice will be told from Superman's perspective. Why review this film again? That is the question, among many, that Matt and Adam brought to the table. And as always, Garrett has his reasons. Judge for yourself whether they are warranted. Listen in as Garrett finally gives his views on Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex Luther, and the boys try their hardest to spot Henry Cavill's Superman rescue someone other than Lois. Be sure to tune in next week when Matt and Garrett bring in special guest Mik Duffy to start their Halloween season retrospective involving the devil himself. That, of the Exorcist.

After a much needed three week break into Predator territory, The Three Men And A Retrospective podcast is taking quite a jump this week. Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice was released a full twelve years and four in universe films after the film that was the basis of our previous DC review, Catwoman. Why did we take this approach? That is one of the many questions they answer in this full in depth episode of the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast. The other questions asked involve a lot of what went into this extremely polarizing Zach Snyder directed film. But if we were to answer everything that went into the making of the 2016 superhero film, it would take two podcasts. Which is why we are reviewing it AGAIN from Superman's perspective next year. But for now, listen in as the guys take a look at BvS from Batman's point of view, and judge how each character we have followed in this seemingly non ending dive into the Batman Universe.

#156 Thor: Love and Thunder, The Princess, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice The final dreaded hump of the bloated Snyder-era Batman films comes to an end. While we did enjoy Ben Affleck's rendition of both the caped crusader and Wayne, the severe over-plotting makes watching the film difficult. The Princess was a fun action romp that takes place primarily in a castle; using the urgency of the plot to drive nifty action scenes. The latest Thor wasn't as great of a hit as its predecessor but we enjoyed the new one-off villain and some of the universe-building. After 5+ years of endless online discourse regarding this film's quality and what it means, it's time to revisit this superhero epic directed by Zack Snyder. In case the title didn't already convey this, this film presents us with a burgeoning conflict between Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) as they both attempt to protect the citizens of their respective home cities, Gotham City and Metropolis. But throwing a monkey wrench into both of their plans are the machinations of the evil Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg and along the way, we also spend time with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and a mysterious artifacts curator played by Gal Gadot….When we're not seeing disturbing images both on the ground and flashing (pun intended) through the mind of Affleck's Bruce Wayne. Let's revisit what works and what doesn't work about the film which launched a thousand “Martha” memes!SHOUT OUT: WITH NOTHING TO SAY PODCASTHost: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/#livingforthecinema #moviereviews #batman #batmanvssuperman #benaffleck #henrycavill #jesseeisenberg #galgadot #zacksnyder #amyadams
