Rhys Thomas, who directed multiple episodes of Marvel's Hawkeye series (including the first two), has clarified when, exactly, the Disney+ show fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Despite fan speculation that Hawkeye takes place in 2025 (two years after the present-day in Avengers: Endgame), Thomas has confirmed the show unfolds in the MCU's version of 2024. "For a period of time, we were going to set it two years out - which would make it 2025 - hence me messing with your minds about the timeline. But it's [one] year out [from Endgame]," tweeted Thomas. Hawkeye set photos leaked well ahead of the series' debut showed Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, and Lucky/Pizza Dog in New York City's Chinatown district outside a store with a sign in its window reading "Happy New Year 2025," as well as text referring to it as a Snake Year on the Chinese Zodiac. (The next Snake Year is, indeed, 2025.) However, it wasn't until Hawkeye's marketing campaign confirmed the show takes place right before Christmas that fans had all the pieces they needed to conclude the show picks up in December 2024 and not the early part of 2025. While the series' main storyline plays out in the post-Blip MCU, Hawkeye's first episode opened with a flashback to a key moment from The Avengers (2012) -- which, in terms of the MCU's timeline, takes place over a decade before the show's present-day. "We wanted to figure out a pivotal moment that made sense for Kate to enter the MCU, especially through her eyes," said producer Trinh Tran when asked why the series' creatives decided to link Kate's backstory with Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Clint included) this way. Between Clint trying to retire as Hawkeye and Kate aspiring to fight crime herself, the first two episodes of Hawkeye suggest the show may well serve as the swan song for Jeremy Renner's run playing the former in the MCU. Renner, who has jokingly referred to himself as being a "grandpa" of the franchise, is understandably keeping his cards close to the chest for the time being and simply claiming he has "no idea" what the future holds for Clint in the MCU beyond the series' final episode. Cobie Smulders To Reprise Maria Hill Role in Marvel Series ‘Secret Invasion' https://deadline.com/2021/12/cobie-smulders-maria-hill-marvel-series-secret-invasion-1234883068/ EXCLUSIVE: Cobie Smulders is set to reunite with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury on Marvel's Secret Invasion, reprising her her MCU role of Maria Hill. The Disney+ crossover comic event showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years. A rep for Marvel declined comment. Secret Invasion also stars Ben Mendelsohn — reprising his role as Skrull Talos — Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald and Killian Scott. Smulders has reprised the role in several Marvel pics including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Captain America: Civil War and every Avengers film. She recently received strong reviews for her portrayal of Ann Coulter in American Crime Story: Impeachment. Kathryn Hahn discovered the name of her WandaVision spinoff series, Agatha: House of Harkness, when it was announced to the public. In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Hahn discussed her excitement for reprising her role as Agatha Harkness in the upcoming series and the secrecy involved in working on a Marvel project. "I mean I didn't even know the title of the show until it was released to the public, they keep it so tight," she explained. Hahn also touched on why the role of Agatha appeals to her and why she wants to continue the character's story arc. "There is something that does feel so badass to be playing like, you know, we think of a witch, and you think of, immediately, you think of a woman who is loud, who is mysterious, who is dangerous because she's complicated and she's misunderstood," she said. "And all that stuff is a real turn-on to me as a performer in terms of digging into this person a little bit more. [I'm] very excited." Hahn played coy when asked about the potential for the series to introduce Mephisto, who was heavily rumored to be pulling the strings in WandaVision. "I have no idea," she said. "That was like a big thing during WandaVision, but I have no– who knows. I mean, I think right now, like anything, like Marvel, I mean who knows?" Agatha appeared in WandaVision as a powerful witch who used dark magic in an attempt to steal Wanda Maximoff's abilities. She initially hid behind the persona of Agnes, the nosy neighbor of Westview who always found a way to inject herself into Wanda and Vision's family life. After she was defeated, the series concluded with Agatha being trapped as her character in Westview. Hahn's performance was praised by critics and fans, with the actor being nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. "Agatha All Along", the song from WandaVision that revealed Agatha as the antagonist, won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and recently received a Grammy nod. Plot details about Agatha: House of Harkness are currently unknown, with the title and the return of Hahn being the only pieces of information about the series. A WandaVision spinoff show centered on Agatha was announced back in October, with the official title reveal coming as a part of Disney+ Day the following month. Disney+ Cuts Two Pre-MCU Marvel Films From Its Lineup https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-pre-mcu-marvel-fantastic-four-cut/ Two classic Fox Marvel films are no longer available to stream on Disney+, and the reason why isn't totally clear. Disney+ subscribers looking to watch either 2005's Fantastic Four or 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer will have to look elsewhere, as the two films have seemingly been removed from the platform. At this time, it's not totally clear why the two movie left Disney+ on Dec. 1. Josh Trank's maligned Fantastic Four reboot is still available on the platform, alongside the two animated series based on Marvel's First Family. However, rights issues for streaming can be complicated, so it's possible Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer will eventually end up back on Disney+. Both removed films are also still available to stream on Peacock. Directed by Tim Story, 2005's Fantastic Four was the first live-action film based on the titular superheroes to receive an official release. The movie starred Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/Thing and Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom. Fantastic Four proved a moderate success at the box office, earning $333.5 million against a budget of between $87.5 and $100 million. However, the movie did not fare well with critics, and its score on Rotten Tomatoes currently sits at 27 percent. Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer were both distributed by 20th Century Fox and come from an era when Disney and Marvel Studios did not own the rights to the characters. However, in 2019, Disney bought 21st Century Fox, thus giving Marvel Studios the rights to the Fantastic Four. Soon after, Marvel Studios announced work on a Marvel Cinematic Universe Fantastic Four film, which Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts will helm. There is no casting information for that film at this time. Created by comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Fantastic Four first appeared in a 1961 self-titled series. Over the years, the team has had a number of different members. The core Fantastic Four, though, has generally consisted of Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and Thing. At the start of their adventures, the four get their powers after being exposed to cosmic rays during a mission into outer space. OUTRO [44:47] We would love to hear back from you! Black Widow.   This comes straight from Marvel Studios President/Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, one of many who paid tribute to Johansson at a ceremony honoring her as the 35th recipient of the annual American Cinematheque Award. “We are already working with Scarlett on another non-Black Widow-related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer,” said Feige (per The Hollywood Reporter). He went on to call Johansson "one of the most talented, versatile and beloved actors of our time," later adding, "Working with you Scarlett has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”   Feige's announcement comes on the heels of Johansson settling her Black Widow lawsuit with Disney at the end of September. The Oscar-nominee took legal action against the House of Mouse in July, alleging that Disney breached her contract by giving the film a day-and-date release in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access without allowing her to renegotiate her deal. This led to a public war of words between Disney and Johansson's legal reps, with the former calling the latter's lawsuit "callous [in its] disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."   “It was a very surreal time because, of course, the film had come out and was hugely successful and that was a big celebration. I had a baby, and that was obviously a life-changing, amazing, celebratory thing,” said Johansson, discussing the Black Widow lawsuit on the red carpet for the American Cinematheque ceremony. “In a way, that sort of buoyed me through the very uncertain, stressful time. I feel mostly very fortunate that nobody will have to go through what I went through and that it's made, I think, a positive impact in the industry and hopefully for artists and creatives' lives and livelihood.”   Black Widow, which took place between the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), served as a coda to Natasha's story in the MCU after the character sacrificed her life to help save the day in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The film also ended with a post-credits scene laying the groundwork for Natasha's fellow Red Room trainee and sister-figure, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), to return in the Hawkeye series on Disney+.   Johansson's mystery Marvel Studios venture is one of two projects she's working on with Disney at the moment, along with a movie based on the company's Tower of Terror theme park attraction. The latter, which Johansson is producing with an eye on starring in, has yet to receive a release date.   Marvel's Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld and Kevin Feige's Young Avengers Reaction Goes Viral https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-hawkeye-hailee-steinfeld-kevin-feige-young-avengers-reaction-meme/ https://twitter.com/Hawkmaestro21/status/1460711493163532296 Kevin Feige and Hailee Steinfeld are keeping the Young Avengers arrow in the quiver. In the Marvel Studios series premiering November 24 on Disney+, Steinfeld enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe as expert archer and Hawkeye fangirl Kate Bishop, the self-taught protege of eagle-eyed ex-Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner). During a press conference with the cast of Hawkeye, a cautious Steinfeld looked to the Marvel Studios president and producer before answering a question about Kate Bishop's future as a member of the Young Avengers, a team of young adult superheroes formed after the Avengers disassemble.    "I mean, listen, this feels so crazy to me right now just sitting here with this group of people. I'm so grateful to be a part of this show in this universe, and it's only the beginning," Steinfeld said when asked about Young Avengers. "This shows not even out, so I'm looking forward to that day."   aking on the mantle of Hawkeye, Bishop becomes a member and leader of the Young Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. Speaking exclusively to ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Apple TV+'s Dickinson star spoke out on her Marvel future after teaming with Renner's Barton in the six-episode Hawkeye.    "It's always exciting, the thought of any character you play, where it could go. And especially with something like this," Steinfeld said. "You've seen the first two episodes, and there's a whole lot more that happens in the four that are to come. That's where my head is at."    Elizabeth Olsen, whose Wanda Maximoff births two future Young Avengers in Disney+'s WandaVision, said over the summer she's not aware of plans for twins Tommy (Jett Kline) and Billy Maximoff (Julian Hilliard) to join the roster as Speed and Wiccan. Phase Four of the MCU has already added prospective members Eli Bradley (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Elijah Richardson) and Kid Loki (Loki's Jack Veal), with more on the way: America Chavez (Doctor Strange 2's Xochitl Gomez) and Cassie Lang (Ant-Man 3's Kathryn Newton).    "As a comic fan, anything in the comics is always our inspiration and our guide point. How those things come together and in what shape, it's always subverting expectations, it's always half the fun as meeting them," Feige previously told Entertainment Weekly when asked if series like WandaVision and Hawkeye are building towards Young Avengers. "But, yes, you can certainly see that Phase Four is introducing all sorts of new types of characters with the potential being endless. Now, all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and new performers come in and we tell them they're part of a bigger universe. They just now have to do the work required to build their audience."   Feige added: "I'm happy to say everybody that's here, certainly where I'm sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can't wait to show them the world."   See reactions to Feige and Steinfeld's meme-able exchange below. The two-episode premiere of Marvel's Hawkeye is November 24 on Disney+.    Disney+ confirms launch of new Marvel movie ‘Eternals' on January 12, 2022 https://streamingguider.com/eternals-disney-plus-movie-2021/ Marvel Studios' new movie Eternals (2021) was released in theaters earlier this month, but has already received a release date on Disney+. The streaming service has informed Streaming Guider's editors that the superhero movie will be available worldwide on Disney's video on demand platform starting January 12, 2022.   ➝ This announcement first appeared in Dutch on Streamwijzer.nl, the largest website about streaming in the Netherlands ✅   Superhero movie ‘Eternals' (film, 2021) will launch at Disney+ on January 12, 2022 The very first new title on Disney+ in January 2022 has been announced and it's a big one: Eternals! The Marvel film is making quite a splash with the first openly gay character and the first sex scene. In addition, the leads are played by an amazing cast including Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden.   Disney+ has confirmed to Streaming Guider's editors that there is already a date in the calendar for the release of the superhero film. Starting Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Eternals will be available in all countries where the streaming service operates. That's approximately 70 days after the theatrical release, a comparable gap as for the launch of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).   The choice to release the movie on a Wednesday is remarkable, as movies usually appear on Disney+ on Fridays and (episodes of) series on Wednesdays. The video on demand platform seems to be experimenting to determine the best weekday for new releases. For example, Black Widow previously appeared on a Wednesday (as of October 6 for all subscribers) and the streaming service released the premiere episodes of the hit series Dopesick on Disney+ Day (Friday, November 12) in several countries.   Mixed reviews Viewers and critics seemed to disagree about the quality of Eternals after its theatrical release. On IMDb, the film scored a 6.8 out of (so far) 106,000 votes. That's fine for an average film, but not very high for a Marvel film. Yet, for example, Captain Marvel (2019 | 6.8), Thor: The Dark World (2013 | 6.8), Black Widow (2021 | 6.7) and The Incredible Hulk (2008 | 6.6) were given equal or lower marks.   At Rotten Tomatoes, Eternals does score the lowest of all Marvel films with 48% out of 359 reviews on the Tomatometer. The audience disagree, as the Audience Score actually constitutes an excellent 80% from over 5,000 votes. So take a quick look at the film as soon as it shows up on Disney+ and let us know what you think about it.   Plot, information and trailer of ‘Eternals' op Disney+ Marvel Studios' Eternals follows a group of heroes from beyond the stars who have been protecting Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called the Deviants return, while long thought lost mysteriously, the Eternals are forced to reunite to defend humanity once again.   DISNEY+   Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld Compares Kate Bishop to Her Into the Spider-Verse Role https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-hailee-steinfeld-kate-bishop-compares-gwen-stacy Hawkeye actor Hailee Steinfeld talks about playing both Kate Bishop and Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse   Actor Hailee Steinfeld has now addressed having played both Kate Bishop in Disney+'s Hawkeye and Gwen Stacy in Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film.   In a press conference attended by CBR, Steinfeld was asked to compare her role as Gwen to her time as Bishop. "It's incredibly cool," Steinfeld said. "I feel so honored to be a part of both projects. They're characters that have similarities, but they're very different. Of course, one is animation, and one is not, and two completely different worlds. But I always love that -- I do find the characters that I have played in the past do have this sort of consistency in being these young women who are strong-minded, have a point of view, have an idea of who they are in this world and they really stop at nothing to get what they want to achieve. I think that both Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop are proof that if you set your mind to something, you can really achieve great things."   Created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, Kate Bishop made her debut in 2005's Young Avengers #1, taking up the mantle of Hawkeye following Clint Barton's death. Rumors of Steinfeld's casting as Kate in Hawkeye began in 2020, with her role officially confirmed at the end of that year. Hawkeye will see her teaming up with Clint to take on the enemies he made while using the name Ronin.   An alternate version of Peter Parker's classic love interest of the same name, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman was created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez. First appearing in 2014's Edge of Spider-Verse #2, Gwen hails from a reality where she was bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter. The Into the Spider-Verse version of the character found herself pulled into a different reality, though by the end of the movie she'd returned to her home world.   Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, Into the Spider-Verse released in 2018. The film saw Miles Morales team up with several characters from different universes with similar powers to himself so to save New York from Kingpin. The movie did well at the box office, grossing more than $375 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $90 million. Into the Spider-Verse received praise from critics, earning a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.   Created by Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye is slated to release Nov. 24 on Disney+. At this time, it's not clear when Steinfeld will next appear in the MCU after Hawkeye, though she is slated to appear in multiple projects. Steinfeld will reprise her role as Gwen when the first sequel to Into the Spider-Verse releases on Oct. 7, 2022. While the official title hasn't been confirmed at this time, there's some evidence the movie will be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.   Hawkeye's Story Arc Leads Directly Into a Future Disney+ Marvel Series https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-leads-directly-into-echo-series Marvel boss Kevin Feige and Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas explain how the Disney+ series will lead directly into Echo, starring Alaqua Cox.   Marvel's upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series will lead directly into the recently announced Echo series starring Alaqua Cox.   During a press conference attended by CBR, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas were asked about Cox's Maya Lopez/Echo and what can be expected for her in the forthcoming Disney+ series. According to Feige, Cox "came in as a cold audition and sort of read a number of different times."   "She's amazing," Feige continued. "I can't wait for people who've seen the first two episodes have seen a very brief moment. It will be fun to see the audience discover Maya over the course of this series and then in her own series later. As announced on Disney+ Day last week, the Echo series will be -- we see Maya Lopez go from the end of this series into that series will be the next direct link."   Maya Lopez/Echo, a deaf Native American superhero, will be introduced in Hawkeye, which wrapped filming in April and will premiere on the streaming service in November, though the nature of her role in the show currently remains unknown. It was reported in March that the Echo spinoff series was in development, with Etan and Emily Cohen writing and producing the series. While it had been reported on for some time, Echo was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios and Disney during Disney+ Day with the release of the series' official logo.   Thomas, replying to Feige, said that Cox "has amazing determination." Regarding her audition process, Thomas went on to say, "She never performed before, but seemed completely unfazed when we came back. We really sort of put her through the wringer. But she never once botched and has kind of walked into this universe like she should've always been there."   In a recent promo for the upcoming Hawkeye series, audiences were introduced to the MCU's latest villain, Fra Fee's The Clown. Cox's Maya Lopez/Echo was seen alongside him, with both characters seemingly holding Clint Barton hostage before he is rescued by Haylee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. While Maya is typically a hero in the comics, it was unclear in the trailer why she would be working with The Clown, though it could have something to do with her adopted father, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, in the comics.   Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, Maya Lopez/Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999 and is one of the few Native American and deaf characters in comics overall. Similar to the Avengers villain Taskmaster, Echo's powers include photographic reflexes, giving her the ability to perfectly mimic the movements of other people. Echo was first introduced to comics as a supporting character for Daredevil and it's speculated that her involvement in Hawkeye could be a way for Matthew Murdock/Daredevil to officially enter the MCU. It has also been reported that both Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld will reprise their Hawkeye roles in Echo as well.   WandaVision's 'Agatha All Along' Conjures Up a Grammy Nomination https://www.cbr.com/marvel-wandavision-agatha-all-along-grammy-nomination/ The song "Agatha All Along" from Marvel Studios' debut Disney+ original series WandaVision is up for an award at the 64th GRAMMY Awards in January.   Per the official list of nominees for the 2022 GRAMMYs, "Agatha All Along" -- written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez -- has been nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media. The fan-favorite track was brought to life by the Lopezes, featuring Kathryn Hahn, Eric Bradley, Greg Whipple, Jasper Randall and Gerald White.   Going up against "Agatha All Along" in the category of Best Song Written For Visual Media are "All Eyes On Me" by Bo Burnham (from Inside), "All I Know So Far" by P!nk (from P!NK: All I Know So Far), "Fight For You" by H.E.R. (from Judas and the Black Messiah), "Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)" by Jennifer Hudson (from Respect) and "Speak Now" by Leslie Odom Jr. (from One Night in Miami...).   WandaVision premiered on Disney+ earlier this year on Jan. 15 to kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series' seventh episode, "Breaking the Fourth Wall" -- which aired on Feb. 19 -- revealed that Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision's (Paul Bettany) nosy neighbor, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), was actually the classic Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness, and that she was the one who had been disrupting Wanda and Vision's seemingly peaceful life in Westview.   This revelation sets up the musical number "Agatha All Along," performed by Hahn as Agatha. On Feb. 24 -- a few days after "Breaking the Fourth Wall" initially dropped -- "Agatha All Along" was added to music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora. The song had nearly broken 1.8 million plays on Spotify by the time WandaVision's finale (aptly titled "The Series Finale") hit Disney+ on March 5.   WandaVision leads directly into the upcoming Marvel Studios film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which hits theaters on May 6, 2022. The film will see Olsen reprise her role as the newly-christened Scarlet Witch. Meanwhile, Hahn is set to return as Agatha Harkness in Agatha: House of Harkness, a spinoff series Marvel Studios is producing for Disney+. Hahn's deal with Marvel also reportedly calls for additional appearances across both film and television.   The 64th GRAMMY Awards will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Monday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.   ‘Hawkeye' EP Trinh Tran on Casting Hailee Steinfeld and the Influence of ‘Better Call Saul' https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/hawkeye-movie-tv-show-marvel-disney-1235050780/ The Marvel executive reflects on why Jeremy Renner's project was moved from film to TV: "The big question was, 'How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe?'"   Hawkeye and Avengers: Endgame executive producer Trinh Tran never doubted whether Clint Barton/Hawkeye's Endgame storyline warranted further exploration. Instead, it was a question of which medium was best suited to tell the street-level story of Jeremy Renner's Avenger and his quest to get home in time for Christmas. Tran, along with her fellow Marvel Studios producers, quickly realized that the Hawkeye project would benefit creatively if it transitioned from the feature film side of the studio to the newly-established Disney+ side.   “We decided to move Hawkeye from the feature side over to the Disney+ side for [creative flexibility],” Tran tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The big question was, ‘How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe? We have an Avenger whose backstory we haven't quite had time to explore yet . We also have to introduce a new character [Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop], as well as allow enough time for them to bond and create that special dynamic that everybody finds so appealing in the comics.' So, in moving it over, it allowed us six hours, three times as much time, which really gave us the creative flexibility we needed to tell the story.”   In September 2019, when Hailee Steinfeld was reported to be playing Barton's protégé Kate Bishop on Hawkeye, fans rejoiced unanimously until Steinfeld herself cast doubt on the idea. This led to some speculation that the actor's existing contract with Apple TV+'s Dickinson may have caused a snag in the proceeding. However, Tran was always confident that Steinfeld would be involved as Bishop.   “When [Hailee] came in to meet, we knew right off the bat that she was the person we had been looking for all these years,” Tran shares. “It was just a matter of we couldn't quite talk about her involvement all this time. So the speculation in terms of whether she was in or not was just us trying to figure out how we can carry out the series during this time and get it delivered in time for this holiday season.”   Prior to Black Widow‘s release, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige referenced Breaking Bad prequel/sequel, Better Call Saul, as an influence on Widow‘s prequel storytelling. Then Marvel Studios hired former Better Call Saul writer Marion Dayre to lead the writers' room for Echo, which stars Alaqua Cox in the eponymous role. (Hawkeye will first introduce the character.) Furthermore, Better Call Saul‘s Tony Dalton also plays the enigmatic role of Jack Duquesne on Hawkeye, and Tran confirms that Better Call Saul was a key factor in Dalton's casting.   “I absolutely love Tony Dalton from Better Call Saul!” Tran says. “When we were talking about who would be great as Jack Duquesne, Tony obviously came to mind because he is incredible in that series. I can't say much about his character in [Hawkeye], but as you can see in the earlier episodes, there's a quality in Jack that will hopefully intrigue people into figuring out what's happening.”   In a recent conversation with THR, Tran also explains why the decision was made to make Hawkeye a bit more lighthearted than previous MCU series.   Since WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki each explored some heavy subject matters and themes at times, was Hawkeye always designed to be something a bit lighter for the holidays? Was Hawkeye meant to be a response to those shows?   Well, as we were brainstorming and talking about the story a couple of years ago, we were trying to figure out how we can set this series apart from Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. And one way was to set it around the holiday times. Out of all of the characters, it made sense for Clint Barton's story to be told around this time of year because he's a family guy. He's one of the few Avengers with kids, and after the fallout of what happened in Endgame — where he lost his kids for five years, became Ronin and got them back — this is the first Christmas that he's going to be spending with his family. And the big question of the series is if he's going to be able to make it home in time in order to do so. So there's that big weight that he's trying to figure out as he's stuck elsewhere. He's trying to deal with something that has put him on this mission and he has to figure out how to get out of it. And in terms of the lightheartedness, we wanted to show a different side of Clint that we haven't seen before, in comparison to all of the Avengers movies that he's in. And I find it so much more interesting that there is a version of Clint that is a little bit more humorous from the Matt Fraction [comic book] run. So we wanted to pull a little bit of that into the series, and we thought that Kate Bishop, out of everybody, was the perfect candidate in order to do so.   Everyone celebrated when Hailee Steinfeld's casting was reported, but then there was a period of uncertainty as to whether it would actually happen. Were you always confident that things would work out?   Yes, we love Hailee. When we were talking about who would be the perfect candidate for Kate Bishop, names were thrown into the hat, and we all loved Hailee. We think she's tremendously talented. When she came in to meet, we knew right off the bat that she was the person we had been looking for all these years, once we had talked about who this person is and what she can bring to the table. Hailee did an incredible job, and we were all very happy with the onscreen Kate Bishop that she delivered. It was just a matter of we couldn't quite talk about her involvement all this time. So the speculation in terms of whether she was in or not was just us trying to figure out how we can carry out the series during this time and get it delivered in time for this holiday season.   Kevin Feige has referenced a certain show as a touchstone for Black Widow‘s prequel storytelling. You also hired one of its writers, Marion Dayre, as the lead writer of Echo. And now, with Hawkeye‘s casting of Tony Dalton, is it safe to say that Marvel Studios is rather fond of Better Call Saul?   I absolutely love Tony Dalton from Better Call Saul! When we were talking about who would be great as Jack Duquesne, Tony obviously came to mind because he is incredible in that series. He brings a different tone to this particular character that people haven't quite seen yet. I can't say much about his character in the series, but as you can see in the earlier episodes, there's a quality in Jack that will hopefully intrigue people into figuring out what's happening.   What I love about Marvel Studios' TV shows is that they're able to devote more time to character development than a two-hour movie can. From your vantage point, are the TV shows already making your feature directors' lives easier since they don't have to squeeze six episodes of character work into their two-hour runtimes?   It allows us the creative flexibility to explore the characters a lot more because we have the time and space to do so. We decided to move Hawkeye from the feature side over to the Disney+ side for that very reason. The big question was, “How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe? We have an Avenger whose backstory we haven't quite had time to explore yet . We also have to introduce a new character, as well as allow enough time for them to bond and create that special dynamic that everybody finds so appealing in the comics.” So, in moving it over, it allowed us six hours, three times as much time, which really gave us the creative flexibility we needed to tell the story. But challenges come with it as well. We have a process at Marvel and we try to maintain that same process both on the feature side and the TV series side. We treat it as one process that works well for us. But things happen faster on the TV end. We have the same amount of time that we normally do on the feature end, but we have three times as much content that we have to deliver in a shorter time span.   So I've only got a few seconds left, but I have to say that I'm fascinated by the Marvel Studios Parliament, which counts you as a member [along with Stephen Broussard, Eric Carroll, Nate Moore and Brad Winderbaum]. Do you each have a special blazer with a crest on it? Is there a secret handshake? How do you signify your membership?   (Laughs.) That's great, actually. I'm going to go back to my parliament colleagues and go, “We should definitely come up with a handshake of some sort.” If there is a blazer, I didn't get one. (Laughs.) Can you call Kevin Feige and ask where my blazer is?   I'll make some calls!   (Laughs.) But that is actually a great idea. I'm going to go back to the other parliament members and say that we should come up with a secret code or something. On this episode of the Holy Nerdy Podcast, we start off the show with some thoughts on this year’s CW Arrow-verse Crossover Event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. With about 6 years of hype, they really needed to knock it out of the park, but unfortunately they settled for a double instead. Next up we chat about Dragon Ball FighterZ and Caleb’s newfound infatuation with E-Sports tournaments and how I think he’s crazy. Finally we close out this episode with our thoughts on the last four or so chapters of the Dragon Ball Super Manga. Are we heading into an all new territory story wise or is this just a shiny new facade on old story beats?   TOPICS   "Crisis On Infinite Earths" Crossover Thoughts Dragon Ball FightsZ E-Sports Tournaments Supporting Your Kids In Their Career Aspirations Misplaced Priorities Dragon Ball Super Manga Thoughts New Hotness Or Same Old Same Old? Starling Tribune - Season 4 Edition – Episode 13: Sins Of The Father (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast)   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   In a decidedly bittersweet week for Arrow, The Starling Tribune reporters Chris, Neil and Stargate Pioneer drop down their thoughts on what occurred on the screen within the episode “Sins Of The Father” and off the create with the battling DC and Arrow creative teams. The reporters run down the Father-Son/Daughter sets on the show and attempt to pick the “best” father of the bunch. The trio also attempt to identify the episode theme which has Neil confused and both SP and Chris going in opposite directions. Malcolm shows his true colors – again – and Oliver has to decide on how to deal with it (#severancepackage). The fight scenes were some of the most intense and complex since The Siege at the end of season 2 in Starling City. Nyssa and Laurel's relationship continues to transform and possible strengthen as comrades. The Reporters also analyze The Calculator's dual reveals to Felicity and Overwatch and how Felicity responds in kind. This week was a big shakeup for the reporter's “Who's In The Grave” predictions and Chris throws out a second hashtag for the episode #WallerStillLives. The reporters wrap up the episode with a list of Easter Eggs, Arrow News, Feedback and comments from the chat. Starling Tribune - Season 3 Edition – Draw Back Your Bow   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   The Starling Tribune reporters go Chris-less this week as Wing, Jay and Stargte Pioneer take on the 7th episode of Arrow's 3rd season “Draw Back Your Bow.” Everyone is excited enough to go over last episode's boxing glove arrow AGAIN while Wing is so excited that Arrow started to call Roy Arsenal that he doesn't even wait for the regular conversation to start before he mentions it.   It's a big Ray Palmer episode as the Queen Consolidated gets a face lift and discussion into the yet to be seen A.T.O.M. suit ensues including the comic book history into the A.T.O.M. character, Arrow's plans for whether he will be miniaturized or not, and what does Felicity's dress have to do with the suit? The reporters admit that Ray can be pretty sneaky with his co-regeneration technology, and they also discuss Brandon Routh's Salmon Ladder technique as SP thinks about building one. If you have not yet had enough of the two super-men in this show the reporters take time out to discuss the similarities and difference between Brandon Routh and Stephen Amell.   The reporters take a look at Cupid and not doubting her abilities wonder just how she could take down Roy. And Wing and Jay deflate at the one line in the episode which summarily seals Harley Quinn's fate within Arrow. The reporters also delve into a SECOND comparison in the episode but this time between Cupid and The Huntress. And let's not forget the magically properties of bowls of water in Arrow either!   Dating Thea is obviously complicated with as many man issues as she has in her life. And The Reporters search the comic to bring some backstory to Mister DJ whose superpower seems to be filling a club dance floor in 3 seconds. And talking about comic books the reporters wonder which comic is the most important to read: Green Arrow, Grayson, Saga, Dark Knight, or The Last Laugh. And as long as they are going into comic book history there is mention of how Robin Hood has visually impacted Arrow to date, and why A.T.O.M. is appearing in Arrow versus the character that the creative team really wanted.   Reporter Wing starts his “Hot Girl Report” as everyone wonders where Laurel is. And the reporters also give their opinions on whether they are looking forward to seeing Laurel as the Black Canary or not. SP give his theory on who kills Sara which captivates reporters Wing and Jay.   MEANWHILE BACK IN THE FLASHBACKS….the reporters geek out about Katana and wonder if Ollie and Katana will ever end up together. And Sp points out that Oliver is a little old to be learning how to do laundry.   It isn't a Starling Tribune without a DC Checklist including a look into the FOX show Gotham. The reporters comment on the family feel of Team Arrow and that they are all looking forward to the big Flash-Arrow crossover.   Next Week's Episode   “The Brave And The Bold”   If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself! Starling Tribune - Season 2 Edition – League of Assassins (A CW Arrow Fan Podcast)   The LIVE Geekation 2014 Recording!   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   In this special LIVE recording edition of the Starling Tribune at Geekation 2014 Reporters Wing, Jay and Stargate Pioneer discuss the best episode of the Arrow series yet, League of Assassins. The fight choreography is amazing in this episode for starters! Reporter Wing was extremely excited to see the re-shoot scene with the newly cast Sara (Caity Lotz versus the pilot episode's Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) but Reporters Jay and SP had already seen Caity on the Netflix season one pilot version. And Caity goes have a real life superpower as Reporter SP points out: she has perfect hair despite her survival conditions. And she gets to relive a moment from the hit movie Titanic as well! Reporter Jay is certain that he spots romantic tension between Sara and….Felicity? The reporter also discuss why Quentin recognizes Sara right away but doesn't make that same connection with Oliver as well as he need for some advanced SWAT team style training. And while on this topic the Arrow makes some tactical mistakes as well. With Sara back her sister Lauren continues to spiral down and the reporters are disappointed to see Diggle do nothing. Reporter Wing likes to play the game “What will happen?” with SP and Jay and decides to play it around Moira's secret. In addition to lamenting the loss of Big Belly Burger the reporters discuss the combat capabilities of Kindergarteners, the art of Arrow catching and how great Reporter Jay is at nerf dart catching (Thanks Agent Haley from Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.!). Reporter Wing gives us some Dr. Anthony Ivo comic book background and the reporters run down the Bat Checklist one more time including: a definition of comic book dead, the Canary references in the episode, and the League Of Assassins mention. SP wants to start a Starling City Window Repair business and his nasty gym stories return once more!   The reporters would like to thank those that were in attendance for the live episode recording including Legends Podcast cohost Beef, Legends Of SHIELD cohost Haley, and many other Geekation 2014 attendees!   If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself! Starling Tribune - Season 2 Edition – Crucible   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   In this edition of the Starling Tribune the reporters Wing, Jay and Stargate Pioneer discuss the packed fourth episode of season two titled “Crucible.” The reporters comment on the name since it is a re-tread from the sixth episode of season one, “Legacies,” in which the concept of Crucible was explored. SP is finally vindicate as he finally gets to the point in his series watch where Sara returns from the dead! The reporters also comment on Sara's character re-casting, Sara's capture, and whether or not the episode got the Sara reveal right in the episode since she was in both the flashbacks and the show's real-time scenes.   One of the most powerful scenes in the episode was when Sara watches her Dad, Quentin Lance, ask Oliver Queen for help over Laurel through the window. And the reporter discuss Laurel's struggle with alcohol and wonder if Laurel's DUI stop was actually a villain setup or not. And pay attention to Sara's question about Slade Wilson.   In another major storyline, the reporters all express their happiness at the return of Isabell Rochev (A.K.A. Summer Glau). And Reporter Wing runs down Isabell's comic book background.   The reporters also discuss the live action fighting and shooting scenes. Just how realistic is it in this episode? And the reporters give their take on why the citizens of Starling City and specifically The Glades are fighting so much for what they have left instead of searching for a better opportunity or taken somewhere else.   The flashbacks in the episode were full of plot even though there was not a lot of time spent on them during the episode. The reporters tell what they enjoyed about them including “Prochnost.” Reporter Jay gives background into Brother Blood's mask while SP thinks it is something out of Stargate. The Reporters answer the question many of us have asked: How does Oliver get out of his Arrow costume so quickly?   With all the new characters in the show the reporters discuss if there is enough show for all of the characters. Are characters like Diggle, Felicity, Lyla, Sin, Thea and Roy given enough screen time to carry them forward? SP asks where is Moira after dropping the fact that she has a secret. The trio of reporters break down their weekly Bat Checklist. Starling Tribune - Season 2 Edition – Broken Dolls   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   In this edition of the Starling Tribune the reporters Wing, Jay and Stargate Pioneer discuss the third season of season two titled “Broken Dolls.” The reporters mention how aptly named the episode is because several major female characters are “broken” including one who we do not even know who she is yet! And the Dollmaker is so evil he shakes all three reporters to the core. Reporter SP doesn't know who The Black Canary is (still) and it's up to Jay and Wing to give him the knowledge that he is sorely lacking, ESPECIALLY since he hasn't even starting reading the episode credits yet. While Jay and Wing do have background comic knowledge of The Black Canary and the comic references to the newly introduced ship's name Amazo, none of the reporters have background knowledge of Sin but the reporters have some interesting theories to share. There's even a brief diversion into Aquaman. Reporter SP also is stuck on dead bodies apparently now in both the DC and Marvel Comic Universes thanks to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the Arrow pilot. Roy continues to be extremely reckless and is in sore need of training….as is Detective Lance apparently Mr. Starsky and Hutch. The Detective might need to learn police tactics in the 21st century but apparently everyone must listen to his names since “Arrow” catches on like wildfire. Oliver might have a new vigilante name but it doesn't help him run his company any better and it apparently doesn't help him sleep at home anymore either since the Queen Mansion seems to be a set of the past. Reporter SP gives a big shoutout to Stargate SG-1 alum Teryl Rothery who comes into Starling City as Moira's attorney and Reporters Jay and Wing geek out about the big reveal that Ra's al Ghul will be involved in the Arrow TV universe. The trio of reporters break down their weekly Bat Checklist and Reporter Jay gives a huge shoutout to listener Adam. Starling Tribune - Season 2 Edition – Identity   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   ALSO: A Fan podcast OF Felicity Of the CW show Arrow (Or as we like the show to be renamed: Felicity Smoak And The Many Adventure Of The Arrow)   SP is ALWAYS wrong with his predictions and he refuses to give anymore (yea, right). Shirtless Ollie workout and shirtless on the Island. Shado was shirtless…from the back. Ollie has excessive hate against punching dummies. Showrunners were very happy to bring in Felicity to not just have two dudes watching each other work out in the Arrowcave/Lair/Quiver. SP still doesn't like Moira while Jay doesn't mind her. SP continues to have a fascination with the Paleyfest 2013 Arrow Panel and references it as often as Stephen Amell shoots CGI arrows in this series. What do we call the lady in charge of the bad guys? Well let's ask Apple TV for what we should call her! What exactly is Brother Blood and what are his motivations? The hosts also seems to disagree on if Laurel knows that Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow, but they all dig deeper into why the Laurel character does turn so far against the vigilante. Roy seems to know how to crash a crappy red bulletproof Mustang. And the hosts all take their stab as to what the show should call vigilante Roy. Roy and Oliver's relationship continues to evolve. Is Oliver now adding Roy to Team Arrow? Are we even calling it Team Arrow now? SP continues the Thea Dress Report. SP also gives his gym report while Jay's idea of a workout is a bit…illegal? What about those Japanese soldiers? Wing loves how fast the island storyline is moving in season 2. Felicity continues to bring it in the dialogue for the week. We find out what kind of tattoo Wing has on the small of his back. Let's not talk about Michael Bay. Ever. What was your favorite John Rhys-Davies character? Jay and Stargate Pioneer talk about how they found the Arrow Paleyfest Season 1 panel and what nuggets were in it. You always run through the forest barefoot and shirtless. Wing explains the Brother Blood reference to SP as a Teen Titan Villain. SP seems to enjoy Thea's nice orange dress. The devastation to The Glades is immense. We find PROOF that Quentin Lance is indeed the ONLY one in Starling City that doesn't know that Ollie is The Arrow. Wing didn't know about the Geico “Boots And Pants” Commercial (https://youtu.be/Lxc2nCmZzrs). How long is a window blind chain in an office building in Starling City? And how over engineered does it really have to be? Don't worry – we tell you. Who reads the credits anymore? Ollie's new bow is incredible. Starling Tribune - Season 1 Edition - Episode 7: Muse Of Fire   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   In this edition of The Starling Tribune Reporters Wing and Stargate Pioneer discuss the season 1 Arrow episode Muse Of Fire. The reporters discuss the episode as well as take a gander into the origin of the Batman based DC Comic character Huntress, one of Wing's favorite DC characters. The reporters comment on how sadly the episode was without the standard Arrow Flashbacks, but that the production team makes up for it with a Stephen Amell shirtless workout scene which gives SP time to ramble about the shirtless scenes in his gym locker room that no one should have to see. But the reporters also marvel that Stephen Amell seems to be able to run faster than a motorcycle. The reporters comment on how this was the first scene with Malcolm Merlyn and son Tommy Merlyn on screen together which was also their first on-screen clash. Tohmof Penikett, a genre actor that is well known to the reporters as the Grnadfather of the human race as shown on Battlestar Galactica, makes his Arrow appearance as does the leading Triad woman in her first appearance since the series pilot episode. The reporters were glad to see Walter back but assess that Moira Queen does not have a clue of how to deal with her second husband at the moment. The reporters ask a very important question: Where exactly does Oliver Queen keep his Arrow suit while he is running around Starling City in a motorcycle? The reporters give a Oliver Queen nightclub status and the comment on Thea Queen character's potential in the series. The reporters ask another very important question: Who has the bigger Universe? DC Comic Book Universe or Stephen Hawking's Universe-Universe? In a rare moment of teaching, Stargate Pioneer tells Nightwing - the self-proclaimed film student - the first movie that had a post credit scene in it. Starling Tribune - Season 1 Edition – Episode 5: Damaged   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   If you want to see The Green Arrow's first attempt at archery, this is the episode for you! Oliver learns a lot and gets slapped around a bit, not to mention can take some pain and torture! But lying continues to be an underlying character issue with Oliver Queen.   SP still has a lot to learn about DC Comics including the Black Canary and Deathstroke. Wing starts to set him straight, including an Easter egg in the pilot episode of Deathstroke. SP is amazed that he can catch an arrow in the middle of the air! Then there's Edward Fyers – yet another DC villain shown in this episode. And we also learn the name of the island, Lian Yu!   We see that while Diggle is very capable he is not as capable as Oliver Queen. So this begs the question, is Diggle an Alfred or a Robin to Oliver's Batman? Wing guides SP through how Oliver might be able to fool the lie detector test so easily. Wing also continues to spoil certain tidbits to SP throughout the podcast. SP continued his disenchantment with the character Moira and how she treats her children and her husbands.   Who can compete with Oliver Queen with his cut body, his scars, his money and his toys?   Wing and SP run down the Starling Tribune Bat Checklist to include a billionaire party, billionaire toys and roof perching (or bat-vaulting?).   If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself! Starling Tribune - Season 1 Edition – Episode 4: An Innocent Man   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   Everyone is innocent in prison. Including Wing! SP is somewhat both disappointed and relieved that Stephen Amell did not have a shirtless workout scene in this episode. Oliver is coming to grips in both the flashbacks and in “real time” that he is a killer. Oliver is coming to terms that he cannot do it all alone and starts to gather his “Team Arrow.” Diggle agrees to come on board with Team Arrow to be the moral compass of the team. Oliver also is reaching out to Laurel for her help as well. What is up with the Queen's Gambit back in Starling City? SP just wants to have a conversation with Felicity. And Felicity is displaying just how capable she really can be to both Walter and Oliver. Does Tempest mean anything beyond the operation to raise the Queen's Gambit? And the book remains the big mystery with its list. Malcolm Merlyn makes his grand debut to the series, and it's always good to see John Barrowman on screen. SP is not impressed with Wing's “Bat Vaulting” term. SP prefers the term “Bat Perching.”  The two hosts run down the Bat Checklist for the second time. The voice modulator needs some work to become more functional. We're just starting to see the complexities of this seemingly simple island in the flashbacks. And SP NEVER remembers his last word…or DOES he?   If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself! Starling Tribune - Season 1 Edition – Episode 3: Lone Gunmen The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network Wing is having fun re-watching these early Arrow episodes while Stargate Pioneer is learning to love the show as well. Wing helps SP out with some more Green Arrow comic lore including Merlyn and Deadshot. There was significant discussion about the fight at Max Fuller's club and just who saved who. SP gives his Oliver Queen/Stephen Amell workout and stunt reports. The mystery of Oliver's blank book continues and SP wildly speculates about what's going on with the little notebook. SP also wonders just how Oliver Queen has all his skills and accesses. Wing helps SP not get too attached to the wrong characters. Why does Oliver have a Diggle and Thea doesn't have a Diggle? Oliver Queen is dealing with coming back to civilization while dealing with the confirmed death of his father. What's up with Ollie's blank book? The double meaning of resurrection of not only Oliver in court but also his relationships with friends and family is well told throughout the episode. Who exactly is the female supervillain and what organization is she with?  We see Oliver's awesome knife-throwing skills. Nightwing encourages to use Stephen Amell as a motivation in the gym. The two discuss how the flashbacks continue to be used well in Arrow. SP asks the question of just who is the other archer on the island? Quentin Lance is Nightwing's favorite character on Arrow. SP wonders if Oliver Queen is actually a holy trinity. And Starling Tribune creates The Bat Checklist for each episode for the future.  If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself! Starling Tribune - Season 1 Edition - Episode 1: Pilot The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network In this edition of the Starling Tribune Stargate Pioneer joins Nightwing in SP's first watch through of CW's Arrow. SP is watching with fresh eyes since he does not have an extensive comic book background while Wing is guiding him through the series to catch up in time for season 3. SP is enthralled with Stephen Amell's rock hard abs, but definitely not the playboy billionaire brat kid Oliver Queen. Wing slightly spoils the next episode of Arrow despite SP's continued and firm demands not to be spoiled. The two discuss Stephen Amell's solid archer form and SP's first impressions of Detective Lance, Robert Queen, Oliver Queen, Diggle, Moira Queen, Sara Lance, Tommy Merlyn Detective Lucas Hilton and Thea (a.k.a.
