In this second episode I will be responding to a video from a Holiness pastor, claiming to provide answers for confused Christians and pastors surrounding holiness issues. Although, his claim is to provide answers and shed truth, he does none of that. The goal of this video is to expose the errors spoken by Brent, and also to clear up many Biblical errors. This is meant in love, and hopefully will be received as such. Hard things are said, but the hope is redemption and reconciliation. “Many Christians have a basic desire to live a holy life, but have come to believe they simply cannot do it. They have struggled for years with particular sins or deficiencies of character. While not living in gross sin, they have more or less given up ever attaining a life of holiness and have settled down to a life of moral mediocrity with which neither they nor God are pleased.” The Pursuit of Holiness Does salvation ever feel like a struggle? Holiness feel unattainable? In this video we discuss what it truly means to leave the kingdom of darkness for the Kingdom of God. Often our response to becoming a Christian is reactionary, rather than provisional. We think we must react to the world around in order to avoid all its temptations and snares, rather than rest in the security provided us in Christ. Now, we must resist temptation. That's a given. There is a warfare to fight. We would do well to remember, that Satan was defeated by Christ at Calvary. So, when we are saved we don't just switch sides. We enter an eternal kingdom of righteous, peace, joy, and victory. Rejoice O' Christian! You are victorious in Christ! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/don-vanzant/support
With everything to consider when we discuss holiness, the single most important thing is Christ. It is only because of His holiness that we can achieve any degree of holiness. In todays episode I will be responding to a popular holiness podcast that discusses holiness standards, specifically the issue of hair length for men and women. This particular episode was full of misleading, misogynistic, false, and sometimes outright cultish tactics. I pray this episode is a blessing and hopefully answers some common objections raised by fundamentalists preaching when it comes to this difficult passage. Three things to remember when reading this setting of Scripture are submission, distinction, and worship. The Bible is a book intended to be both read and studied. This is an example of a bad reading of scripture, leading to bad study, and ultimately bad conclusions. In chapter 4 of Galatians Paul is going to remind the Galatians that since they have been saved, they should not return to elementary principles of the world. In this video we are going to answer four basic questions about the chapter. 1. What is the heir? (v. 1-7) 2. Is slavery to the world better than slavery to the law? (v.8-10) 3. How does legalism affect brotherly love? (v. 12-20) 4. How are Abrahams sons an illustration of legalism and liberty? (v. 21-31) One of the dangers of coming out of legalism is the temptation to become progressive, or deconstruct our faith entirely. The reality of faith is that it strips away everything but Christ. So then, legalism is not the answer, but neither is "worldliness." https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/why-abba-does-not-mean-daddy/ https://www.amazon.com/Galatians-You-Reading-Feeding-Leading/dp/1908762578 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/don-vanzant/support
In chapter 3 of Galatians Paul is going to give three different arguments for why justification is by faith alone. Deliver us from evil. It's a popular phrase in culture. But, is Jesus referring to an abstract evil force, or is He referring to the devil himself?
