Scripture Reading: Revelation 2:12-17 The third church in the letters of Christ to the seven churches was in the city of Pergamum. Like Smyrna, it was a center for emperor worship. There was a temple dedicated to the worship of Augustus (and subsequent Caesars) in Pergamum as well as the renowned Altar of Zeus. Christ lauds the Christians in Pergamum for their willingness to suffer and display fidelity to the Christian faith. The problem in Pergamum was that although the Christians had publicly denounced idolatry, some of the people had privately allowed immorality (Rev 2:14) because of doctrinal corruption (Rev 2:15). Doctrinal corruption always leads to behavioral corruption. It is true of many Christians today. Some condemn public evil … abortion, pornography, same sex marriage … but allow subtle sins in their own lives , like lust, hatred, neglect of prayer. The allowance of subtle sins, often, results from haziness about Biblical doctrine. Wrong thinking always leads to wrong behavior. So many of our churches today need a revitalization of precise, deep-rooted, fervent truth in their programs. Biblical truth is being replaced today, in wholesale fashion and in the name of worship, by entertainment. While we stimulate our senses we are starving our souls. We need clear, demanding truth from the eternal Word of God. This is the only way our lives and our churches will remain pure light in the darkness. He who has an ear, let him hear.

In this series we're going to study through the book of 1 Corinthians to deepen our spiritual maturity. All of us need to be more intentional with our spiritual growth. Paul, the author of this letter, will challenge us, just as he challenges the church at Corinth, to move into a deeper level of spiritual maturity.

In the old days of coal mining one of the common practices was to bring a canary down in the mine. They did this because canaries are very sensitive to gases like methane. So if the canaries became sick or died the miners would know it was unsafe and leave, so it was a way for predicting dire consequences. Therefore the term "canary in the coal mine" refers to an indicator which proceeds disaster. Today Michael Ness joins me as we look at certain groups which have distanced themselves from the Adam-God Doctrine and where they stand now.

In a digital age where cyberattacks are common, our spiritual lives also face constant threats from false teaching. Just as we need firewalls to protect our devices, God has given us doctrinal firewalls to safeguard our faith—through biblically qualified elders, sound doctrine, and expositional preaching. In 1 John 4, we're reminded that the Spirit of God empowers truth, while the spirit of error seeks to deceive—and only by grounding ourselves in God's Word can we stand firm.
To Overcome Doctrinal Decay, we need the Bible to...1) Increase knowledge2) Gain perspective3) Develop convictions4) Sharpen skills5) Build character

A lot of Christians are surprised you tell them that what we call the beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount listed in Matthew 5 were not written to the New Testament Church found in the body of Christ. Far from it, the Sermon on the Mount is Jesus telling the Jews about what life will be like in the Millennium when He returns as King to sit on the throne of David and rule over the whole Earth for a thousand years. But even though it was not written to us as doctrine, there is a boatload of doctrinal dynamite contained in these 9 beatitudes given by the Lord, and we would do well to rightly divide and understand them. "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:1-3 (KJB)The Sermon on the Mount and the 9 beatitudes, or blessings, contained therein are actually the foundational pillars that comprise the 'Constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven' that Jesus will rule and reign over. The blessings mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount constitute what life will be like during that time period, it is a constitution of that kingdom as prophesied in the Old Testament. It is not doctrine for Church Age believers, but a wonderful promise of what is to come when King Jesus is ruling in perfect righteousness.

In this episode of Catholic Answers Live, we explore key questions about Catholic doctrine and Scripture. Topics include the Church's teaching on Purgatory, the meaning of “under the earth” in Scripture, and Pope St. John Paul II's quote on free will and the greater good. Jimmy discusses who the Church Fathers are and how to read them, how doctrinal development fits with the end of public revelation, and biblical support for the resurrection of the dead and Christ's second coming. He also addresses whether a priest can deny communion to someone kneeling and whether baptism removes both sin and attachment to sin. In this episode, we continue our discussion on how to listen to a sermon, drawing insights from 2nd Timothy chapter four, verse one and following. Pastor Mike Abendroth emphasizes the importance of listening doctrinally, with a focus on understanding the divine facts and truths being presented, rather than merely seeking practical application. We should approach sermons with a devout attitude, recognizing the seriousness and eternal consequences of the message. Listeners are encouraged to be defensive in a world that often rejects sound doctrine, guarding against messages that merely tickle the ears rather than speak the truth. How can Christians engage meaningfully with history? In an age underpinned by the idea that life is about self-invention and fulfilment, contemporary Western culture holds that the past has little to teach us. We live in an age that historian Sarah Irving-Stonebraker terms as the “Ahistoric Age,” in which we are profoundly disconnected from history. In the attempt to appear relevant, the church often embraces this ahistoric worldview by jettisoning the historic ideas and practices of Christian formation. But this has unintended consequences, leaving Christians unmoored from history and losing the ability to grapple with its ethical complexities. Sarah Irving-Stonebraker joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss what it means to be a priest of history and why it matters more than ever for Christians to maintain this critical conversation with the past.To receive Priests of History: Stewarding the Past in an Ahistoric Age for your partnering gift, please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resources-priests-of-history-stewarding-the-past-in-an-ahistoric-age/Topics discussed include: What does it mean for Christians to be priests of history?
