The appellate challenge to Richard Allen's conviction in the Delphi murders rests on two primary grounds: the reliability of over sixty custodial confessions made during a period of diagnosed psychosis, and the validity of the probable cause affidavit that authorized the search warrant initiating the entire prosecution. On the confession issue, the defense filings document the following timeline. Allen was placed in solitary confinement at Westville Correctional Facility upon his arrest. IDOC policy limited such confinement for inmates with his mental health classification to thirty days. Allen remained in the most restrictive cell for approximately thirteen months. During that period, prison medical staff diagnosed him as gravely disabled and psychotic. He was forcibly administered antipsychotic medications. His weight dropped to approximately 135 pounds. He reportedly confused nightmares with reality and believed he had initiated a global conflict.Prior to solitary, during the arrest interrogation, Allen — after being subjected to what the defense characterizes as over an hour of deceptive interview techniques by Detective Holeman — stated: "I am not going to say something I did not do." The subsequent confessions, numbering over sixty, contained factual errors inconsistent with the known evidence. He confessed to shooting victims who died from blade wounds. He described acts for which no corroborating evidence exists. His initial statement to his wife was qualified: "I think I did it." Dr. Westcott's 127-page forensic evaluation ruled out malingering and attributed the psychosis to the conditions of confinement. The jury heard the confessions but was not presented with the audio of Allen's psychotic episodes or the expert testimony characterizing them as false. The warrant challenge is equally foundational. Detective Liggett's probable cause affidavit allegedly included material misrepresentations of witness testimony. Witness Betsy Blair described Bridge Guy as a young man in his twenties with distinctive brown hair — a description that does not match Allen's appearance at 44 with a crew cut. The defense alleges selective inclusion of corroborating details and omission of contradicting ones. A Franks hearing was denied. Without the warrant, no subsequent evidence in the case exists. An appellate court will determine whether these challenges constitute reversible error.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Before solitary, Richard Allen wouldn't break. According to defense filings, Detective Holeman lied to him for over an hour during the arrest interrogation. Allen's response: "I am not going to say something I did not do." Five months in the most restrictive solitary cell in a maximum-security prison changed that.IDOC's own policy imposed a thirty-day limit for inmates with Allen's mental health diagnosis. He was held for thirteen months. By April 2023, he weighed 135 pounds. He was confusing nightmares with reality. He believed he'd started World War III. Prison doctors diagnosed him as gravely disabled and psychotic. IDOC forcibly injected him with antipsychotics. When his lawyers begged for a transfer, the prosecutor allegedly mocked their concerns on the same day IDOC designated Allen gravely disabled. Then came the confessions. Over sixty of them. He confessed to shooting Abby and Libby — they were killed with a blade. He confessed to acts there is no evidence occurred. He got basic facts of the crime wrong. His first confession to his wife wasn't "I did it." It was "I think I did it." Dr. Westcott produced a 127-page evaluation that ruled out faking and concluded the psychosis was caused by solitary confinement. The jury heard the confessions. They never heard the audio of Allen's psychotic episodes. They never heard the expert who would have called the confessions false. The appellate filings also challenge the foundation of the case itself. The search warrant rested on Detective Liggett's probable cause affidavit — which the defense alleges misrepresented witness descriptions and omitted details that would have broken the connection between Allen and Bridge Guy. Betsy Blair described a young man in his twenties with poofy brown hair. Allen was 44 with a crew cut. Blair reportedly told Liggett these were two different men. The defense requested a Franks hearing. Denied. Without this warrant, there's no search, no gun, no bullet match, no arrest, no confessions. The entire case, the defense argues, grows from a document the witnesses wouldn't recognize. An appellate court will decide.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The behavioral shift is the center of the Delphi appeal. Before solitary confinement, Richard Allen sat across from Detective Holeman during the arrest interrogation and — according to defense filings — was lied to for over an hour. Allen's answer: "I am not going to say something I did not do." That was the man who walked into Westville.Thirteen months later, he was a different person. IDOC's own policy limited solitary for inmates with his mental health diagnosis to thirty days. Allen was held in the most restrictive cell in a maximum-security prison for over a year. By April 2023, he weighed 135 pounds. He was confusing nightmares with reality. He believed he had started World War III. Prison doctors diagnosed him as gravely disabled and psychotic. He was forcibly injected with antipsychotics. His lawyers begged for a transfer. The prosecutor allegedly mocked their concerns on the same day IDOC designated him gravely disabled. Then came the confessions. More than sixty. He confessed to shooting victims who were killed with a blade. He described acts there is no evidence occurred. He got basic facts wrong. His first confession to his wife: "I think I did it." Not "I did it." Dr. Westcott's 127-page evaluation ruled out malingering and concluded the psychosis was caused by the solitary conditions themselves. The jury heard the confessions but never heard the audio of his psychotic episodes and never heard the expert who would have testified they were false. The appellate filings also attack the warrant that started the case. Detective Liggett's probable cause affidavit allegedly misrepresented what witnesses described. Betsy Blair said Bridge Guy was young, twenties, poofy brown hair — not a 44-year-old with a crew cut. The defense says Liggett kept the jacket and cut the person wearing it. Blair reportedly told him she was describing two different men. Without this warrant, the defense argues, the entire case collapses — no search, no gun, no bullet, no arrest, no confessions. An appellate court will decide whether any of it holds.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The prosecutor allegedly mocked defense concerns about Allen's mental state on the same day IDOC designated him gravely disabled. The jury heard the confessions. They never heard the audio of his psychotic episodes. They never heard the expert who would have called every one of them false. The case didn't start with confessions. It started with a search warrant — and the defense says that warrant is built on a lie. Detective Liggett's affidavit allegedly changed what witnesses described. Betsy Blair said Bridge Guy was young, twenties, poofy brown hair. Allen was 44, crew cut. Blair reportedly told Liggett these were two different men. The affidavit allegedly said Allen admitted to wearing a blue Carhartt. Allen reportedly said he didn't know what he was wearing. Without this warrant — no search, no gun, no bullet, no arrest, no confessions. The defense argues the entire case grows from a document the witnesses wouldn't recognize and confessions a psychotic man made about a crime he described wrong. Canadians have long believed in stability, common sense, and not “rocking the boat.” But what happens when the boat is already taking on water?Michael Westcott, CEO of Allies for a Strong Canada, joins Stephen LeDrew to talk about why Canadians need to rediscover a sense of civic responsibility - and how ordinary people can actually do something when they see their country heading in the wrong direction.Westcott explains how Allies for a Strong Canada helps Canadians move from frustration to action by providing simple, practical tools: who to call, what to write, and how to engage constructively without becoming a professional activist. The conversation covers free speech, democratic values, activism on university campuses, and the long-term consequences of disengagement. If you've ever said “this doesn't feel right” but didn't know what to do next, this episode is for you.

Why are land acknowledgements now mandatory at almost every public event in Canada - and what are they actually accomplishing?Michael Westcott, CEO of Allies for a Strong Canada, joins Stephen LeDrew to challenge the idea that land acknowledgements are harmless or meaningless gestures. Westcott explains why these statements are not merely symbolic, but increasingly being used by activists, institutions, and courts to justify real-world political and legal outcomes. The conversation explores why so many Canadians privately disagree with performative rituals but feel pressured to comply, how conformity has replaced common sense in public institutions, and why speaking up now matters more than ever. This is a discussion about civic courage - asking what problem we are trying to solve, refusing to say things we don't believe, and understanding that most Canadians have not shifted nearly as much as they are told they have.
What if the only way to stop an apocalypse was a first date? Our Valentine's special takes a sharp, funny, and surprisingly tender look at Date A Live, where spatial quakes level cities, spirits bend reality, and a soft-spoken teen seals world-ending power with a kiss. We kick off with the premise—romance as crisis management—then trace how that playful hook mutates into a dense web of factions, betrayals, and big ethical swings. The AST wants control. DEM wants dominion. Shido wants consent, connection, and a path that saves both humans and spirits without erasing who they are.We walk through each season's turning points: the early charm of Tohka and Yoshino, Kurumi's time-twisted menace, and Origami's grief sharpened into resolve. Then the framework cracks wide open. Natsumi blurs identity. The twins and Miku test loyalty and ego. Nia reads truth like panels, winking at the series' structure while revealing how stories trap their heroes. Inverse forms flip the good-versus-evil script; the “corruption” is closer to a core self than a stain. Phantom steps out of the shadows, and Mio's origin reframes the entire cast as pieces of a single, shattering love story engineered by hubris.By season five, the mask is off. Shido's past life as Shinji, Mio's desperate choice to scatter impossible power into many hearts, and Westcott's calculated cruelty turn the harem joke into a myth about consent, agency, and the weight of design. The kiss mechanic stops being a punchline and becomes a question: when does affection liberate, and when does it coerce? Between the gags, banger themes, and crisp battles, the series dares to say love can be logistics, sacrifice, and strategy at once. We land on an 8.5, with praise for escalating stakes, layered worldbuilding, and a finale that pays off years of setup.Hit play, then tell us: is the romance device clever satire or a moral tightrope? In this episode, we discuss technical glitches, Farrell's influential books, and his controversial views on the Golden Dawn, Mathers, and historical occult figures. Farrell emphasizes the human flaws of these figures and the importance of magical practice and experience over theoretical knowledge. The conversation touches on a range of topics, from the misuse of secrecy in occultism to practical applications of ritual magic. We also delve into Farrell's latest work on John Hayden and the complexities of alchemy and geomancy within the Golden Dawn system. This insightful discussion offers valuable perspectives for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to the occult. Don't miss this deep dive into the rich traditions and modern interpretations of Hermetic wisdom. #Occult #GoldenDawn #NickFarrell #MagicWithoutFearsTheomagica is the blueprint for a lot of the waffle you hear in modern occult circles, but with actual depth and taken in context.Heyden discusses the magician as a mediator between celestial forces and the material world. It's the exact microcosm–macrocosm spiel that the Golden Dawn borrowed wholesale and incorporated into their rituals. Like Heyden, Crowley waltzed in later, sprinkled on some poetry, and declared himself the prophet. But the cosmology he borrowed comes from the likes of Heyden. His book is stuffed with Platonic philosophy, biblical mysticism, and the power of the stars, and unlike some later magicians, he didn't need a thesaurus to make it look impressive.Even Frederick Hockley, who was the Golden Dawn's beta version, drew on Heyden when shaping his scrying techniques. And despite his endless bluster about smashing old systems, even Crowley ends up echoing Heyden's ideas. Mathers and Westcott leaned on Heyden's worldview, which included magical images and a hierarchy of spirits, while pretending it all came straight from the Secret Chiefs.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/magick-without-fears-frater-r-c-hermetic-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Michael Westcott, CEO of Allies for a Strong Canada, joins Stephen LeDrew to talk about why so many Canadians feel something is wrong - and why so few feel empowered to do anything about it.Westcott explains how a small but highly organized group of professional activists has learned to dominate public institutions, politics, and media simply by being the loudest voices in the room. Meanwhile, most Canadians - even those who strongly disagree with what they are seeing - remain silent, unsure of how to respond or where to begin. This conversation is about civic confidence, personal responsibility, and practical action. Not protests. Not placards. But knowing who represents you, speaking up when something feels wrong, and understanding how everyday Canadians can influence decisions that affect their communities and country.

Tuesday, 2 December 2025 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. Matthew 14:29 “And He said, ‘You come!' And having descended from the boat, Peter, he walked upon the waters to come unto Jesus” (CG). In the previous verse, Peter emphatically challenged Jesus that if it was Him, to command Peter also to come to Him on the waters. In response, we read Matthew's continued words, “And He said, ‘You come!'” The response is immediate. There was no “Wait, I wasn't ready,” or “Sorry Peter, I didn't bring enough miracle juice for two people.” Rather, the command was confident that Peter could and should come out to Him. Therefore, it next says, “And having descended from the boat.” Imagine being on the waters as the waves slammed against the boat. The meaning is that the boat's buoyancy allowed for the hull to be partly submerged in the water while the rest remained above the water. It wasn't that the entire boat just sat on top of the water as if it were sitting on an ice bed. In other words, the laws of nature were working as they should. The water surrounding the boat was unchanged, and the boat was doing what boats do. And yet, Peter descended from the boat, which was in, not on top of, the water, and was able to stand on the water without sinking. The change, therefore, was in Peter, not in the water. This is evidenced with the next words, “Peter, he walked upon the waters.” The words don't say how long this occurred. They also don't record the distance, be it ten feet or fifty. Jesus was close enough to be heard, but far enough to necessitate Peter's effort to walk to Him. The testimony, however, declares that Peter did walk on the water. With that understanding, it next says, “to come unto Jesus.” There is a slight difference in the texts here. Some say, “he came to Jesus,” others say, “to come to Jesus.” The writers of the Pulpit Commentary, having obviously been in the boat with the disciples, say – “To go to Jesus; rather, and came to Jesus (Westcott and Hort; cf. margin of Revised Version). The true text states what did, in fact, happen, notwithstanding Peter's lack of faith (cf. ver. 31).” Because verse 31 says that Jesus immediately stretched out His hand and caught him, the Pulpit Commentary has deduced that Peter must have made it all the way to Jesus. How they can conclude that this is the “true text” based on that, while dismissing the contents of verse 30, is exceptional. While Peter was distracted with the waves, Jesus could have taken three steps toward him. Life application: As has been noted in the past, take all commentaries on the Bible with a grain of salt until you think through what is being said. For the Pulpit Commentary to state that the Westcott and Hort text is the true text based on a couple of words that may or may not have been properly thought through is damaging. Nobody is going to lose his salvation over this. Whether Peter got to Jesus or was still on his way to Jesus isn't going to change someone's life or the direction of his life. But for the commentators to adamantly claim that one is the true text immediately dismisses the other text. What if that is the true text? They have now determined that what isn't God's word has replaced God's word! That is not a sound attitude, nor is it a good place to be when we all must stand before the Lord and give an account for the lives we have lived. If we were not in the boat with the disciples, or flying a drone over the event, filming it while it was taking place, then we should reserve stating adamant words about texts as the Pulpit Commentary has done. Only when there is no dispute in the text is there a reason to be adamant about what the text says. But even then, we need to be sure about our claims. After two thousand years of people looking over the word, new insights come up all the time, opening our eyes to new parallels, patterns, and points that may have never been considered before. Lord God, it is beyond our imagination that we could just step onto the local body of water and tread on it as if it were dry land. But Jesus did it, and Peter did for a short span as well. How little our faith must be that we cannot do what You allowed Peter to do without a moment's hesitation! Strengthen us in our walk of faith, O God. Amen.

We were going to talk about the pitfalls of spark plug replacement this week, but since our good friends at Rolling Thunder Cycles closed up shop after 45 years of service we thought it'd be better to have Gerard come on and make the announcement formally. Also talked about was Buc-ee's spicy beef jerky, the legendary RTC holiday parties, and how to physically close a working business that has "lots of stuff" to dispose of. "ADHD is not an excuse, it's a reason." In this episode, Phil and Ky Westcott (mental health advocate - @thevibewithky) delve into the complexities of introversion, mental health, and the evolving understanding of ADHD. They discuss the importance of authenticity in sharing personal struggles, the rise in ADHD diagnoses, and the need for better education around mental health in schools. Ky shares his journey from injury to self-discovery through social media, emphasizing the significance of vulnerability and emotional intelligence in today's youth. The conversation highlights the impact of societal changes on mental health awareness and the importance of supporting individuals in their mental health journeys. Introversion does not limit performative abilities. The journey of self-discovery can start from personal struggles. Social media can be a platform for authenticity and connection. ADHD awareness is increasing due to more open conversations. Education systems need to adapt to the emotional intelligence of students. Mental health discussions were lacking in past generations. ADHD is a spectrum that evolves over time. Vulnerability in adults can positively influence youth. Stories of late diagnoses highlight the need for awareness. Support and understanding are crucial for mental health management. NASM Master Instructor Roundtable: A Show for Personal Trainers
In this “Master Instructor Roundtable,” co-hosts, and NASM Master Instructors, Wendy Batts, and Marty Miller, take a deep dive into some of the most persistent myths in strength training. Whether you're a fitness newbie, a seasoned trainer, or just fascinated by health science, this lively discussion will help clear up common misconceptions that still linger in gyms everywhere. The two tackle myths like the idea that lifting heavy weights automatically leads to bulkiness, especially for women, and whether kids and seniors should steer clear of strength training. They dispel the old “high reps for toning, low reps for bulk” rule, explain why “muscle confusion” isn't the magic bullet it's made out to be, and set the record straight on spot fat reduction and the safety of squats for your knees. Drawing on up-to-date research, years of professional experience, and practical examples (from training young athletes to keeping grandparents strong and independent), the hosts break down how strength training impacts everyone—at every age. They cover how adaptations really work, the crucial role nutrition plays in muscle growth, and why proper technique and progression always trump trendy workout fads. With plenty of humor, relatable anecdotes, and actionable advice, Wendy and Marty equip both trainers and clients with the facts they need to make smarter choices in and out of the gym. If you want to gain confidence in your training—or help others do the same—don't miss this myth-busting episode that promises to educate and empower. Episode 102: Carrie Delgott is the President, COO, and CCO at Wescott Financial Advisory Group. With over 25 years in financial services—including two decades at Vanguard—Carrie brings deep expertise to the evolving RIA landscape. At Wescott, she has helped guide the firm through transformative initiatives like B Corp certification, major acquisitions, and the development of their Life-Minded Wealth framework, all while prioritizing employee engagement, client experience, and sustainable scale. This week, Kyle talks with Carrie about how values and vision can power meaningful scale. They dive into Wescott's journey as a B Corp, their involvement in the Net Positive Consortium, and how their Life-Minded Wealth philosophy puts people—not just portfolios—at the center of everything. Carrie shares lessons from integrating a billion-dollar acquisition, insights on the future of the industry, and why technology, culture, and intentionality are key to building a standout firm in a crowded market. In this episode: (00:00) - Intro (01:48) - Carrie's money moment (04:03) - What B Corp Certification really means (07:21) - Why B Corp matters for RIAs (09:21) - The Net Positive Consortium and its five pillars (11:45) - What sets Wescott apart (13:09) - Westcott's Life-Minded Wealth philosophy (15:27) - Scaling an RIA with intention (20:32) - Lessons from a $1B acquisition (26:12) - Consolidating tech stacks for growth (29:30) - Carrie's outlook on the future of wealth management (32:57) - Carrie's Milemarker Minute Key Takeaways Growth is about absorption, not just acquisition. Successfully integrating people and culture is just as important as the deal itself. Without alignment, you lose the opportunity for true scale. Values attract top talent. Wescott's B Corp status and purpose-driven approach resonate deeply with next-gen advisors who want to do meaningful work. Scale is relative—and evolving. As the industry shifts, even mid-sized firms must rethink what growth looks like and how to build infrastructure that supports it. Quotes "We're not looking to have technology replace that human interaction, but we certainly are looking for it to make us more and more efficient." ~ Carrie Delgott "Acquisitions are not for the faint of heart. Just because you can afford a practice doesn't mean you can absorb a practice." ~ Carrie Delgott "If you're not going to integrate and you're not going to come to some best practices for how you're going to work on behalf of our clients going forward, then you just lost all of the scale and efficiency opportunities." ~ Carrie Delgott Links Carrie Delgott on LinkedIn Wescott Financial Advisory Group Vanguard Grant Rawdin Net Positive: How Courageous Companies Thrive by Giving More Than They Take Life-Minded Wealth Salesforce The Psychology of Money Connect with our hosts Milemarker.co Kyle on LinkedIn Jud on LinkedIn Subscribe and stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify YouTube Produce game-changing content with Turncast Turncast helps your company grow by producing top-quality content and fostering transformative conversations. About Jennifer Westcott Hi I'm Jen. I am a therapist, artist, mother, wife, friend. I am a woman devoted and passionate to making therapists the best they can be, the most supported and human and kind to themselves. the reason I believe so strongly in this is through my own journey through healing and encountering both great and awful therapy! As the mental health field becomes more needed than ever, it's essential to support therapists as HUMANS. We already know how to get supervision, we already know how to get training, but there are not nearly enough places to talk about the human experience of being a therapist; how it affects us and how we affect it. I grew up in an alcoholic, dysfunctional family that looked really good on the outside with professional parents and kids who were 'bright' and went far...but inside the family were secrets of incest and alcoholism. When I was 36 years old I suddenly remembered being sexually abused by my mother. I nearly went completely mad and definitely went quite mad. This started my journey to healing and sobriety and I continue to trudge daily. The help I needed took me to many therapists' couches, psychologist appointments, psychiatry appointments, alternative healing circles, and 12-step meetings. Through this inside experience, I became PASSIONAtE about what helps people and what doesn't. I changed my complete approach to being a therapist after being a client and NEEDING HELP and getting it, and not getting it. My job as a clinical supervisor and private therapist became an experiment in 'what helps' clients heal from trauma and addiction and I tried a LOT OF THINGS and still do! What I've learned for sure is this: therapists who are authentic, real, and human help clients profoundly. How then do I support therapists to KNOW their own stories and wounds and USE this knowledge to have a healing impact on their clients? How do I support therapists in breaking out of the mold they became trapped in during their graduate program and remembering the sacredness and marvel of human healing? Creating Therapist Sanctuary is my attempt to do this and to hold up therapists in the sacred and meaningful work they do. Also, shout out to my old mentor Stuart Smally from 90's SNL who 'was not an actual therapist but a member of many 12-step groups'. Stuart; I love you. Permission for therapists to be more vulnerable, making them love what they do more deny the culture of putting our 'best self forward', let's put our most wounded self forward too! Therapists support and hold each other up better than any cheesy self-care method that doesn't even work and that we try doing alone in the bath. https://www.holistichealingcounselling.com/ https://www.youtube.com/@therapistsanctuary https://www.instagram.com/therapistsanctuary/ https://www.tiktok.com/@holistic_healing4 https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennifer-westcott-ba897023b/
Amy Hudson and Dr. James Fisher chat with Dr. Wayne Westcott, an accomplished international authority in health, fitness and aging. He's the author of over 25 fitness books and the go-to expert and deep source of knowledge for maintaining strength at any age. They discuss how strength training not only combats muscle and bone loss but also helps prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Tune in to hear how you can age gracefully and improve your overall health by focusing on strength, muscle retention, and longevity. Dr. Westcott shares how he used strength training in high school to improve his running, despite his coaches warning it would slow him down--now, he sees it as the foundation for both athletic and personal strength. According to Dr. Westcott, strength training for kids isn't just about physical health—it boosts cognitive performance and academic success. Dr. Westcott points out that strength training combats muscle and bone loss, which are inevitable with aging. He highlights its role in preventing chronic issues like obesity and type 2 diabetes. “Muscles are the engines of your body,” says Dr. Westcott, explaining how muscle loss slows metabolism and leads to weight gain. Dr. Westcott shares research showing that after dieting, most people regain weight as fat instead of muscle. Strength training interrupts this cycle, helping to maintain muscle and improve body composition. Amy reflects on how weight loss is often misunderstood--it's not about shedding pounds; it's about losing fat while preserving muscle. Dr. Westcott shares a study showing that older adults who combine strength training with extra protein significantly improve muscle retention. He recommends this simple strategy for anyone over 50. Dr. Fisher discusses the tragedy of muscle loss with aging, calling it a hidden threat to health and independence. Dr. Fisher and Dr. Westcott break down a study on the benefits of extra protein combined with strength training for postmenopausal women. You can lose weight faster by simply cutting your calories. Unfortunately, this strategy means you'll end up losing both fat and muscle. It makes a lot of sense to add strength training to whatever you do, from aerobic exercises to sensible dieting. The best way to get amazing results with strength training is doing exercises that keep the tension on the muscles in a safe and effective manner. According to Dr. Westcott, many people overdo strength training and that's why they burnout. He recommends focusing on safe, efficient workouts that are sustainable and enjoyable. Amy shares the key elements of her training schedule--20 minutes, twice a week is more than enough. Dr. Westcott talks about slower-speed exercises and how they yield better results in strength training. Amy and Dr. Fisher discuss the best place to start with strength training. Keep it simple, time efficient, doable, and interesting. Dr. Fisher and Dr. Westcott agree that the slower you do your reps the better. Your goal is to make every repetition count. You can do far fewer repetitions with far fewer risk of injuries and still get awesome results. Dr. Westcott explains why most people don't go the whole way in their strength training journey. People start strength training and they try to do too much, too frequently--too many sets, reps, and exercises—which quickly leads to burnout. Lifting weights is not about how much weight you lift. It's about how effectively you work your muscles and how long the muscles are under tension. Dr. Fisher believes strength training should be simple and accessible. He advises focusing on uncomplicated, supervised programs that fit seamlessly into your busy life. We have a choice in how we age. According to Amy, reversing aging starts with building and maintaining muscle. According to Dr. Westcott, cardio combined with dieting often leads to weight loss and muscle loss. Strength training, on the other hand, preserves muscle while delivering better long-term results. Mentioned in This Episode: The Exercise Coach - Get 2 Free Sessions! LA based photographer Ian Spanier has been on the show a few times, with the first being back in 2019 for a conversation about Classic Portraits & Classic Lighting, discussing a portrait of actor Jeff bridges. Next up was the 2022 show talking about his Favorite Light Setups, which was fitting since Ian is an Ambassador for Westcott as a "Top Pro". In all the years I have been doing this podcast, Ian is absolutely one of my favorite interviews. He's always happy to share any of his techniques or the details of his process. I have even watched his workshop a few times, when he was a guest presenter at Cal Baptist University. Simply put, he is a top level creator, and a fantastic educator. I was emailing back and forth with him recently, and he mentioned he had a new book coming out next year, titled Cigars: A Biography. Keep in mind, Ian already has had three successful books. His first full book of published work, "Playboy, a Guide to Cigars" arrived in cigar shops in November 2009. The book is a collection of his photographs made in six countries, and spanning two and a half years. His second book project was a different subject altogether, and “Local Heroes: America's Volunteer Fire Fighters,” came out to critical acclaim in the Fall of 2012. This year saw the arrival of book three, Arturo Fuente: From 1912 by Assouline books. This one is a two-book series that features all of Ian's images in their $1200 US Retail version as well as the limited edition smaller version packed with 20 exclusive Arturo Fuente cigars retailing for $2500 US. While we're chatting about the newest book, Ian said something that struck me as a great idea for a show. He talked about "how a long term personal project helps one grow as a photographer”. I think that as creatives we all have a different path for growing as an artist, and I feel like I have heard this one often. Personal projects lets us play, and explore not only our subject matter, but our entire approach to the art. I've done shows about personal projects before, and I have always been fascinated by the personal projects I see photographers take on, but this one was different. This personal project is the result of 17 years of Ian's work. As I mentioned above, Ian is an Ambassador for Westcott as a "Top Pro", and he's also a brand ambassador for companies like ThinkTank Photo, Spider Holster, Hoodman USA, Sekonic, Naroo Global Masks, and CamRanger. So, I asked if he'd wanted to come back and talk about how a project like this, spanning so many years, helped him grow as a photographer. 3 Top Tips Permission for therapists to be more vulnerable, making them love what they do more deny the culture of putting our 'best self forward', let's put our most wounded self forward too! Therapists support and hold each other up better than any cheesy self-care method that doesn't even work and that we try doing alone in the bath. Question: I was very upset by the answer from you about the reason you prefer the KJV.... I need you to please send me several examples of what you consider "serious" errors [in modern translations]. I would also be very appreciative of some reading material that the lay person can understand...or names of some sources....Response: Thank you for your recent letter challenging me regarding my support of the KJV. This question is too complex to deal with in a brief letter, but let me try once again. You asked for sources. The best case against "KJV only" is presented by D. A. Carson in The King James Version Debate: A Plea for Realism. He points out, in "eight key Christological verses (Jn 1:1,18; Acts 20:28; Rom 9:5; 2 Thes 1:12, Tts 2:13; Heb 1:8; 2 Pet 1:1)... the KJV fails to underscore the deity of Christ in four." Most modern translations do as well or better. The NIV scores in seven of the eight. Even Thomas M. Strouse, though strongly criticizing Carson, admits these four KJV failures (Jn 1:18; 2 Thes 1:12; Tts 2:13; 2 Pet 1:1) and explains them as "a textual problem (Jn 1:18) and the other three are translational problems." Even its defenders must admit to some flaws in the KJV.Critics fault the KJV because it comes from a Greek New Testament which was put together by Erasmus in 1516, later improved by Theodore Beza and Robert Stephanus. The latter's fourth edition in 1551 is "substantially the Textus Receptus," according to Jasper James Ray, one of its most fervent defenders. Too late in time, say the critics, and too few manuscripts as its source. Yet this was basically the Greek text that had been accepted by the Greek church in the East for centuries (the Roman Catholic Church in the West used the Latin Vulgate), earlier manuscripts from which the Greek Bible came having been worn out and discarded. Modern translations (some are worse than others, the RSV in particular) come from a Greek text developed by Westcott and Hort (two scholarly heretics) based largely upon Vaticanus and Sinaiticus, which, though older, are clearly corrupted.
