An unapolagetically opinionated husband and wife share their thoughts on the movies they watch. We love watching movies, discussing them, contemplating them, dissecting them, and sharing our thoughts with each other.
PIXAR is at it again with another adventure where the only real villain is the simple challenges of life! Joy, Sadness, and the rest of the gang is back, but this time, they're accompanied by some new emotions, and they could not have picked a worse week to move in. Riley has Hockey Camp to think about! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll relive horrific memories of puberty.
If I had a nickel for every time a Hogwarts student was influenced to commit some worrisome acts due to a book they found, I have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Anyway, some people love this movie, some people hate this movie, but everyone should at lease have an opinion! I mean, c'mon, Dumbledore forces a man to stop being a chair! It may not be perfect, but it's got some great stuff!
We're finally doing it! We're covering the Dune movies! You've seen 'em. You've loved 'em. If you didn't you're weird and we hate you. These movies are glorious and Denis Villeneuve deserves our never ending gratitude and praise! I haven't been this excited about CGI sand since Spider-man 3. I haven't cared this much about a giant worm since that episode of Spongebob. I haven't been this in love with seeing something in black and white since Harvey! These movies are INCREDIBLE!
The ghostbusters are at it again, and not just the founding members, but the new crew as well. It's a full team up cuz this icy jerk ain't going down without a fight. It's not perfect, but we had a lot of fun watching it. Definitely worth a watch!
The Oscars are here, so right before we all find out who's winning and who's losing, we decided to take a quick minute or two, or 106, to go though how we felt about all the Oscar nominated films we were able to get around to seeing this year. Hop on instagram and let us know what you thought of the Oscar nominations this year.
We are continuing our series on Harry Potter! Our guests for this 2nd installment chose the 4th Harry Potter film as the one they wanted to cover, so we are looking at the Tri-Wizard Tournament! How do you like this one? How does it stack up against the rest?
The new animated movie from Disney is a celebration of their 100 year legacy of magic through animation and storytelling! A lot of negativity has been directed at it so far, but we're here to say, not everyone feels that way! It may not be perfect, but there's a lot here to enjoy! What did you think?
"Yer' a wizard, 'Arry." We are kickin' off the most magical franchise we've covered yet! Although we won't necessarily be covering them in chronological order, we are starting with the first film. Each movie in the franchise will feature 1 or 2 guests of ours, and we're letting the guests pick the movie! Let us know what your thoughts are on the Harry Potter franchise as well as this first film in particular.
The newest film from director Martin Scorsese. It is, without a doubt, going to be a major contender at the Oscars this year. The historic tale of murders that were able to be left unchecked, unchallenged and uninvestigated for years due to bigotry and greed. What did you think? Was a 3 1/2 hour runtime too long?
The Reel Couple has been BUSY this summer! We saw a ton of movies these last few months! Most of them have luckily been really great, but if we're being honest with ourselves, there's been some crap, too. We're taking a walk down memory lane as we review every new release we saw this summer. It's a bit of a long one, but there's a lot to talk about. What did you guys think?
4 asian american women travel to China for a business trip that could have been a zoom meeting. But before they know it, they've gotten themselves caught up in a wacky adventure that so desperately wants to be considered funny. Unfortunately, writing crude humor still requires some skill, and this movie didn't quite have enough. It wants to feel like the Hangover trilogy, with the female cast of Bridesmaids, and with the cultural awareness of Crazy Rich Asians, but instead it feels like and hour and a half we'll never get back
Indy is back for one final adventure! A final send off to the best archeologist we've ever loved! And we are relieved to admit, we really dug it! Now, with that said, it's not quite perfect. And it led to a pretty heated argument. The Reel Couple really gets into it in this one! BUCKLE UP!
Indy's getting older, and unfortunately, his days of swinging from vines with monkeys are behind him. But don't you worry, Spielberg thought of everything! That's why he invited a shiny, young Shia LaBeouf along for the ride. Although, by the end of this movie, just like Cate Blanchett, we too felt we were having our eyes burned out of our faces, we still stuck it out and we watched to the end. And we did it for you! And we'd do it again! We just really don't want to. Please don't ask us to sit through this again! PLEASE!!!
What can we say that hasn't already been said? Hopefully something, I mean, we said a whole bunch! There must be at least one thing in here that no one's talking about. We LOVED this movie.... obviously! It's one of those movies that took on the impossible task of living up to its predecessor film, and proceeded to somehow be even better! But what did YOU think of this work of art? Let us know on our instagram!
If you ever made the choice to watch this movie, then you have chosen..... Wisely. This movie is great! It's got something for everyone! Father/son bonding, Sean Connery scaring birds, nazis getting beaten in hilarious are humiliating ways, christianity themed booby traps! What's not to love?!?!
GUYS!!!! There's a new MCU movie out, but it's actually FANTASTIC!!!! So good, in fact, that BOTH members of the Reel Couple got emotional! Not just during the movie, there were sone water works while recording the episode too! Don't believe me? Listen in and here Dallas get VERY choked up!
Another installation in the Fast Saga! Can you believe it?!?! It's Crazy! It's over the top! It's absolutely ridiculous from beginning to end! And with all that said, at least one of us actually really enjoyed it! Jason Mamoa was easily the best part. But what did you think? Let us know on instagram @the.reel.couple
Disney is at it again with another live action remake of one of their classics! This time they're coming for the fish girl and her little friends, too! We had a lot to say about this one, mostly negative, but what did you think of it? Let us know on instagram @the.reel.couple
Let's face it, Ke Huy Quan is doing all the heavy lifting in this movie. You can't help but love him in this breakout performance! Almost everything else, we could easily help but love it. But what do you think of the first theatrical chronological Indy adventure? Let us know on Instagram @the.reel.couple
Starting our watch through of the Indiana Jones series leading up to Dial of Destiny, we kicked it off with the O.G. The 1981 classic staring Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, John Rhys-Davies, and Paul Freeman! This movie still holds up so well. Charming characters, impressive use of practical effects, and face-melting nazis. What's not to love?!?!
Is this movie good? No. But, was it at least funny? Almost not at all. However, did it make sure to be am exciting entry in an universe that is soon coming to an end? Also no. You get the picture. We were very underwhelmed by this new installment, but what did you guys think?
Woo-hoo! This movie was fun! That's just the best word to describe it. Fun for the whole entire family! The colorful, its exciting, it's funny, and it's based on characters and games we all grew up playing. What's not to love??? Do yourself a favor, grab the kids, grab the spouse, go see it, go home, and have an awesome game night together afterwards. Now here's to hoping Illumination Studios builds out a Super Smash Bros Cinematic Universe!
Paramount Pictures rolled really well on this one! Are you a long-time fan of D&D? Then go see this! Have you never played D&D once in your entire life and don't know the first thing about the game? Then go see this! It's fun for everyone! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll cheer, you'll want to shapeshift into an owl-bear.
The world's greatest dog dad is back again! This final installment has more nunchucks, more flaming shotgun shells, and more blind people than in any other John Wick film to date! It's got everything you could want! We loved it. You'll love it. Your mom's hair stylist loves it! It's John Wick! It's part of your balanced breakfast!
HBO has yet another jaw-droppingly good show and, as per usual, it will flay your soul! Well written characters, stunning visuals, incredible performances. You name it, this show's got it.... except for happy, uplifting moments. But if you want to be happy, what're you doing on HBO?!?!
The Oscars are only a few days away, so the Reel Couple has taken the opportunity to list off what they WANT to see win, what they THINK will win, as well as a few things they WISH had gotten nominated! Content Warning! This episode discusses some very adult content and concepts and listener discretion may be advised. WE DID IT! We watched EVERY! SINGLE! Best Picture Nominee and recorded and episode for each one! This movie was HEAVY! Very well done, but hard to watch none the less.
Not a best picture nominee, but it is a best animated nominee. Very controversial, for very stupid reasons! Girl turns into a giant red panda! Chill out! What did you think?
The loose retelling of the childhood of Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans is the story of a young boy who falls in love with movies and movie making while having to travers the difficult waters of a very complicated family. Nominated for Best Picture and so many others, and it's not hard to understand why!
The newest Marvel movie is out, and the Reel Couple had GUEST STARS!!! The audio is a bit rough, but we had a lot of fun recording with friends! And we also dug the movie a whole bunch.
"You who's the worst? THE RICH" said the rich. It's a bizarrely pretentious film maybe trying to satirically criticize the social elite, or maybe trying to be an absurd comedy about the repercussions of our own actions? Or maybe it's trying to be something else entirely. Who knows? We don't! But we still watched it, we still talked about it, and it still got nominated for best picture!
HICCUPS! And also we talk about a best picture nominee. But mostly there are hiccups. Cate Blanchett is great, sure. The rest of the film is.... forgettable? Unfortunate, but true if you as us.
Do you like Tom Cruise? Do you like fighter jets? Do you like mustaches? Do you like seeing the same trailer for a movie every time you go to the theater for almost 3 years? Then Top Gun: Maverick is for YOU! Fantastic movie, it'll have you on the edge of your seat. And thanks to the Academy, we're talking about it because it got a Best Picture nomination!
Baz Luhrmann is at it again. This time telling the tale of the life, times, and iconic career of Elvis Presley. While it was certainly... interesting to watch, The Reel Couple can't quite say it was enjoyable to watch. What did you think?
It's nominated for Best Picture. Unfortunately, the Reel Couple doesn't understand the hype. Is it good? Arguable. Does it has good elements? Definitely! Does it deserve Best Picture? Hell NO! It shouldn't even have gotten that nomination! Anyways, do you agree with us? Head on over to our instagram page and let us know! @the.reel.couple
A great film that neither of us want to see again. This Netflix exclusive is one of the best war films we've ever seen, but it is one of the most painful to watch war films as well. Definitely deserving of all of its Academy Award nominations.
Adolescent murder has never paired so nicely with adolescent resurrection! This movie has something for everyone! Creepy monkeys, creepy aquatic life forms, creepy characters voiced by Christoph Waltz, Fascism, a wooden boy, etc. Fun for the whole family, as long as the whole family doesn't include very young children. Seriously though, it's really really good!
This was quite the mind trip! Quite possibly the craziest plot line of a movie to be receiving so much Oscar contender predictions. We loved it, did you? Also, stick around to the end to hear our Academy Award predictions, gripes, speculations, etc.
Another audience request! This week the reel couple watched on of the better "chick flicks" out there. Have you seen this one? Did ya like it? But did you like that one scene? What about that other scene?
Our listeners made a request, and we listened........ Much to our chagrin! This movie is painful, but we love you guys, so we did it for you. Enjoy our suffering.
We did it, Patrick! We finished the Terminator series! It's had its ups, and its had its downs. Fortunately, we feel like it ended on an up. What do you think of the final installment of the terminator franchise from Deadpool director Tim Miller?
The sequel is finally here boy is there a lot to talk about! We understand if you need to take a bathroom break mid way through! We promise we tried to keep it as short as possible!
The Reel Couple gets into it! We've been wanting to talk about this one for a LONG time! And what better time than right now when the whole world is talking about Pandora again? [A bit more language than usual, just FYI]
We're getting close to the end of the Terminator saga! Today we're looking at the installment that jumps around on the timeline like it's a trampoline! Have you seen it? If so, you're one of the few. But let us know if you agree or disagree with our assessment of this one!
We finally get to pull back the curtains on Judgement Day and see the War against humans and machines! There's no way this could possibly disappoint....... or is there??? Have you seen the 4th Terminator film? If so, what are your thoughts?
OUCH! The Reel Couple sat through the third (and so far most disappointing) installment in the Terminator franchise! Did it hurt? Yup! Could it have been worse? Probably. Have you seen it? Hopefully. Will you listen to this episode? YOU BETTER! enjoy.
One of the all time greatest Sci-Fi Action adventure films of all time! Aren't you interested in hearing the Reel Couple's thoughts on such an incredible film?!?! Well then take a listen!
The Reel Couple went and saw the newest installment to the Marvel universe and wanted to let you know how good it is! Also, this week we were absolutely heartbroken to hear of the passing of legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy and we take a few minutes up front to discuss his many performances as the caped crusader. Kevin Conroy, you will be missed by so many.
Is it a bit dated? Maybe a bit. Is it a classic? Absolutely! Does it stand the test of time? Depends on who you ask! The Reel Couple is gonna tackle the Terminator franchise! Tune in for the kick off!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! In this new episode the Reel Couple is talking about not 1, not even 2, but 3 WHOLE MOVIES! It's insane! But this was really fun and let us know what you think of these movies in the comment section of our Instagram post
The Reel Couple Real Spooky Octoberthon continues! This week, they're talking about an absolute classic from comedy legends Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder! We laughed, we cried (from all the laughing), and then we laughed some more! Have you seen it? Hop on over to our Instagram post and let us know your thoughts!
