Why do “your” like, your pen and “you're” like you are nice sound exactly the same in American English? The reason is, in natural speech, both words usually reduce to “yer.”So instead of saying:  “your phone”   Americans say:  “yer phone.” And instead of:   “you're late”       We say:  “yer late.”Listen to these examples:“Is that your car?” → “Is that yer car?” “You're early today.” → “Yer early today.” “Your idea is great.” → “Yer idea is great.”This is part of American rhythm — small words often get weaker, and the important words get the stress.Try using this pronunciation in your English conversations this week. (Amsal 26:23)Renungan: Di suatu desa hiduplah seorang wanita yang terkenal culas. Ketika kematian menjemputnya, la ditempatkan di mana orang-orang jahat berada. Malaikat yang menjemputnya berusaha mengingat-ingat kebaikan yang pernah dibuatnya untuk diajukan sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam keputusan yang akan diberikan kepadanya. Kemudian malaikat itu teringat bahwa wanita itu pernah sekali mencabut serumpun bawang dari kebunnya dan memberikannya kepada seorang pengemis. Singkat cerita wanita Ini mendapat kemurahan dan diberi kesempatan keluar dari tempat penyiksaan yang panas dan pengap itu. Tuhan berkata kepada malaikat. "Ambil serumpun bawang dan ulurkan kepadanya. la boleh keluar dari tempat ini dengan memegang bawang itu. Jika ia bisa keluar ia mendapat kesempatan untuk hidup di Firdaus, tetapi jika gagal karena bawang itu pecah atau putus maka ia tetap tinggal di lautan api ini." Kemudian malaikat mengambil serumpun bawang dan mengulurkannya kepada wanita itu. "Peganglah bawang ini erat-erat karena aku akan menarikmu dengan ini." Ketika ia sudah terangkat, beberapa orang penghuni lautan api itu memegang kakinya supaya mereka bisa ikut naik. Ketika wanita itu menyadarinya, la mengibaskan kakinya supaya orang-orang itu terjatuh. Ia berteriak, "Sayalah yang ditarik, bukan kalian. Ini adalah bawangku, bukan bawang kalian. Lepaskan kakiku!" Karena hentakan kakinya yang keras, maka putusiah bawang itu dan wanita itu kembali ke dalam lautan api itu. Dari ilustrasi ini kita diingatkan untuk menjaga hati. Hati adalah tempat yang rentan untuk bertumbuhnya benih-benih jahat. Dalam hati yang jahat terdapat benih-benih kecurigaan, iri hati, balas dendam. kesombongan, amarah, ketidakpedulian, takut disaingi, minta dihormati, korupsi, tipu muslihat dll. Sedikit saja terbuka kesempatan maka benih itu akan mulai menancapkan akarnya dan bertumbuh dengan cepat seperti benalu. Kalau tidak waspada maka ia akan segera menguasai dan mengendalikan hidup kita. Mungkin orang tidak mengetahui kejahatan apa saja yang saat ini akar-akarnya sudah menancap di hati kita, tetapi Tuhan tahu, "Aku, Tuhan, yang menyelidiki hati, yang menguji batin, untuk memberi balasan kepada setiap orang setimpal dengan tingkah langkahnya, setimpal dengan hasil perbuatannya." (Yer 17:10). Karena itu setiap hari jaga dan bersihkanlah hati dari benih-benih yang jahat. Tuhan Yesus memberkati.Doa:Tuhan Yesus, jagalah hatiku agar tidak ditumbuhi akar-akar kepahitan yang dapat merusak kehidupan rohaniku. Amin. (Dod).
