Originally recorded in April of 2023, your latest unearthed prize from the Now We Know vault is our dive into the first (modern era) Mario movie, with the sequel set to hit theaters next month. And, oddly enough, both the beginning and climax of this one are very, very similar to the reviled 1993 live-action Mario movie!

Having been burned back in the 90s with one of the most infamously bad movie adaptations in history, Nintendo clearly had a one word mandate for The Super Mario Bros. Movie: safe. Make every safe decision you can, don't do anything interesting or take any kind of risk that could reflect poorly on the brand. And hey, it worked. Super Mario Bros. made all the money and kids loved it. But, what if the Nintendo made SOME choices, and took SOME risks? How much better a showing could this have been for the little Italian plumber? Josh Skaar of the Talking SMAC podcast joins us once again to find out! Together we work out a stronger arc for Luigi and a really fun and organic way for the Princess to be in another castle. Let'sa go!  

The holiday season is in full swing. The Grinders are ready to stuff their faces for Thanksgiving. The sales and the shopping are just beginning. But, most important of all, this is the last episode of Grinders for Nov 2026! While passing the gravy and making your Christmas list, don't forget to listen to Eric's reviews. So close to the end of the year there aren't many new releases left. However, Dec 8th will see the Steam release of the Y's inspired Angeline Era. For the people who don't mind waiting, February 2026 will see the releases of Norse: Oath of Blood and Y's X: Proud Nordics. Once the food is done, the last thing most people want to do is talk to their family members. So instead of gouging out ears, why not try to relax with a good movie or tv show. The Grinders have some recommendations and some warnings. Are Kpop Demon Hunter or Spin the Bottle going to leave Frank with more indigestion than eating an entire pecan pie? Are Predator Killer of Killers and the Super Mario Bros Movie so bad that they would make Eric prefer to watch football? Are Gen V and Alien Earth filled with enough nudity and gore to make Break enjoy them even more than the sweet potatoes?  If the dinner table political fight with the drunk uncle wasn't enough to get one's blood boiling, then maybe these Stinkos will get the heart rate up. Our overly stuffed president continues his war on the American people. Between his appointees, our failure of a Congress, and corrupted judges across the country there is a lot of anger. They embrace NAZIism while rejecting science. Despite their hateful claims, people do not become autistic because of vaccines. Also, they need to stop trying to "fix" autistic people. They are not broken! We can all agree that the stuffing is the best part of the meal. At least, no one can disagree because I have no editor. Just like the stuffing the Sweetos are here to counteract the bitter taste of Stinkos. In the surprise of all surprises the American government is finally releasing the Epstein files. From here, we can only hope it leads to punishment for everyone involved in the abuse and coverup. More than anything, we all should want justice for the victims. With only one segment left, it's time to loosen those pants for dessert. Almost as good as pumpkin pie but not even close to apple pie is the delicious Driver's Seat. Although the Grinders don't talk much about sports the final segment is dedicated to their favorite and most influential athletes. Football players, Olympians, baseball players, and competitors from numerous other sports get the respect they deserve. With so many delicious food options, don't be the guest who brings green bean casserole or fruitcakes. That is a good way to not get invited back. But it's not all bad, anyone kicked out of family events has more free time to listen to RPGrinders!                 I know I usually use this space for my sarcasm, but now I'm just thinking about Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey light meat. Turkey dark meat, stuffing, rolls, cranberries, mash potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, and a variety of pies... And now I have to try not to drool for a week, no promises and no apologies for drooling in my sleep.      

Get to the choppa, cause its time for a review of the newest Predator movie, Predator Badlands. It does not disappoint. Plus Valve doubles down on hardware, while the Super Mario Galaxy movie shows off its stars. Also, Sony has buyers remorse about Bungie, and somehow Amazon has forgotten that James Bond has had a history of reboots. and someone call MU/TH/UR because Alien Earth is coming back!

Legendary Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't often do interviews but recently he's been talking about the future of Nintendo. The Super Mario Bros Movie 2? Nintendo Switch 2? New Nintendo Theme Parks? And so much more!

Last year, Super Mario Bros celebrated its 30th anniversary. It was a fairly muted celebration, but its acknowledgement for the most part came with the release of the new Super Mario Bros Movie, an Illumination animation starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy & Jack Black, with many websites also acknowledging the movie that came thirty years before.It's well documented that this is a movie with problems, but what it really was, was the true definition of "creative differences". It would have a young directing team with previous experience of futuristic dystopia, an Academy Award-nominated producer, and would take inspiration from Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Everyone involved agreed they wanted something different to the light, fluffy games, but at least eight different scripts would confuse the tone, switching between serious brotherly drama, to The Wizard of Oz style fantasy, to Blade Runner and Mad Max inspired action, to something more family-friendly.The producers didn't want to work with the directors, the directors were getting the blame for everything (and they continued to get the blame for thirty years), the writers were being told one thing by producers and another by the directors - no-one was talking to each other. Threats were being thrown around, the set was chaos, no-one knew what was going on, no-one knew what they were going to be filming.But while the producers, directors and stars were at metaphorical war, literally everyone else was stepping up and going above and beyond on this movie, despite all the problems, including the terrific special effects teams, set designers and production designers. What we ended up with was something brave, bold, innovative, pioneering and special; most definitely not the bob-omb everyone has been led to believe it is...
