I stumbled upon The Scottish Clans Podcast while doing some research on my last name, and I am so glad I did. This podcast provides a wealth of information on the history of the clans, and it has been incredibly helpful in understanding my Scottish ancestry. As someone who did their Masters in Scotland and loves Scottish history, I find this podcast to be both awesome and well-detailed.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its balance between history and genealogy. It covers a wide range of topics related to Scottish clans, providing both basic and in-depth information that is easy for beginners to follow. The host's military background is evident in the thoroughness of the content, and he goes above and beyond to provide more information than I even dreamed of finding about my heritage. It has been so helpful in piecing together the bigger picture of my family history.

However, one downside is that there isn't much focus on individual family specific stories within the clans. While the podcast provides a great map view of Scottish history and culture, it would be interesting to hear more personal anecdotes or experiences from listeners who have connections to specific clans.

In conclusion, The Scottish Clans Podcast is an amazing resource for anyone interested in Scottish history or genealogy. It provides detailed information on various clans, battles, and politics, while also giving insight into lesser-known aspects such as the Anglo/Viking/Gael connection and the history of The Borders and Galloway. With its thorough research, cited sources, and engaging storytelling style, this podcast is a must-listen for anyone wanting to delve into their Scottish heritage or simply learn more about Scotland's rich history.

In this episode, we explore the Gaelic origins of the word "slogan," meaning "army shout," and how these cries functioned in Highland warfare. While many Highland clans had distinctive battle slogans, not all did, and Lowland examples are even rarer. We'll also untangle the confusion between slogans and formal mottos found in coats of arms. For the last episode in this mini-series, I take a look at a few more clans and their claim to have fought at Bannockburn.  Did these clans even exist at the time?  Is it plausible, if they weren't yet a clan, that their ancestors were still there, stomping the English alongside Robert the Bruce and his allies? Many clans claim to have fought at the Battle of Bannockburn on 23-24 June, 1314.  This battle happened at an interesting time for the clans as we would recognize them.  Some of them had taken shape by this point and some hadn't.  My goal here is not to proclaim whether they were definitively there or not.  Rather, I look at scholarly sources and the accounts as given by the clans themselves or their origins to see whether they were even developed as clans by the this decisive battle or not.  I sampled 15 clans.  Did yours make the list?  Were they even there?   Podcast website: Scottish-clans.com Contribute to the cause: Scottish-clans.com/team Check out my new online course-Origins of the Scottish Clans 101: Scottish-clans.com/origins Sponsor: usakilts.com For free resources:  Scottish-clans.com/resources
