The team sat down with Alasdair Lumsden, one half of the Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF) founding team, and discussed CNF's plan to produce vast amounts of eSAF in the UK. About Alasdair Lumsden:Alasdair is Co-founder and Director of Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF), a UK-based Sustainable Aviation Fuel developer. About Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF):CNF was co-founded by Alasdair Lumsden and Sophie Zienkiewicz on the sidelines of COP26 in Glasgow in 2021. Based in the UK, CNF is endeavoring to replace liquid fossil fuels with a more sustainable alternative and developing their modular and scalable Power-to-Liquid (PtL) flagship facility called Starling, a commercial-scale eSAF facility under development in Workington, Cumbria. This facility will convert low-carbon electricity, captured carbon dioxide and water into 25,000 tonnes/year of synthetic kerosene with a 97% lifecycle GHG emissions reduction versus fossil kerosene. This is enough to deliver over 40% of the UK's mandated 2030 eSAF supply. To date, Starling has received £7.4m from the UK government.--Links:CNF site - www.carbonneutralfuels.com CNF LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/carbonneutralfuels

Climate change is making the lives of many more difficult. Tens of millions of people are already displaced by weather events each year, and studies show that climate breakdown drives mental and physical health crises, increased conflict, drought, and food insecurity, among many other challenges. So why do leading climate models primarily measure impacts on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rather than human wellbeing?Inge Schrijver joins Alasdair on the podcast to discuss her new research into this question, and to explain how climate models work, how they are used, and what they are missing. Inge Schrijver is a PhD researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Leiden University. Her study, “Inclusion of wellbeing impacts of climate change: a review of literature and integrated environment–society–economy models,” was co-authored with René Kleijn, Paul Behrens and Rutger Hoekstra, and is available to read here. This week's news roundup is more exciting than usual, as the government teases us with the idea that society's upper echelons are not immune from the consequences of their actions. Also, and stop me if you've heard this one, but the Americans might be starting a war in, get this, the middle east. Then for our main topic, we discuss why councils can't provide even a sliver of public services because Everything Must Go. Breakthrough science has never been stronger — yet patients still miss life-saving therapies.Despite decades of innovation, most precision medicines fail at the last mile of healthcare delivery. The problem isn't discovery. It's how science, capital, and systems are aligned — or not.Possessing elite science is no longer enough to win in the multi-trillion-dollar biopharma ecosystem. As innovation shifts from West to East and from treatment to prevention, leadership teams struggle to bridge scientific depth with incentives, execution, and real-world delivery. Capital follows speed and scale — not intention — and healthcare systems built decades ago are failing to keep up.In this episode, Alasdair Milton, Principal at KPMG, explains where innovation actually breaks — and what must change for cures to reach patients at scale. From diagnostics and data silos to capital allocation and prevention models, this conversation reframes the next decade of precision medicine.

His background includes being a stockbroker, banker, and economist.Alasdair Macleod started his career as a stockbroker in 1970 on the London Stock Exchange. Within nine years, he had risen to become senior partner of his firm.Subsequently, he held positions at the director level in investment management and worked as a mutual fund manager. Mr. Macleod also worked at a bank in Guernsey as an executive director. For most of his 40 years in the finance industry, he has been demystifying macroeconomic events for his investing clients. The accumulation of this experience has convinced him that unsound monetary policies are the most destructive weapon governments use against the common man. Accordingly, his mission is to educate and inform the public in layman's terms what governments do with money and how to protect themselves from the consequences.Alasdair Macleod - Substack - https://alasdairmacleod.substack.com/Twitter - https://twitter.com/MacleodFinanceLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/alasdair-macleod-9494b27/WTFinance -Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/wtfinancee/Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/67rpmjG92PNBW0doLyPvfniTunes - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wtfinance/id1554934665?uo=4Twitter - https://twitter.com/AnthonyFatseas
