During the conversation, Alasdair explains why meaningful friendships between men can be difficult to develop and what makes Christian friendship distinct. Good Sunday to you,This week I'm talking to the goldbugs' goldbug, Alasdair Macleod.I'm more of a continued decline, muddle through guy, but Alasdair, as you shall see, is very much in the outright collapse camp and he sees that outright collapse coming soon, as you shall hear - within the next 18 months!Alasdair has spent decades studying financial markets, monetary history and the role of gold, and his argument is uncompromising: gold is money; pounds, dollars and euros are credit. I could not agree more. Confidence in fiat currencies is approaching breaking point, he says, and any currency that hopes to survive will ultimately have to become a credible substitute for gold through a proper gold standard. We also look at the fragility of the bond markets, starling, Japan, China and what a 21st-century gold standard might actually look like. My thanks as ever go to The Pure Gold Company for making these interviews possible. If you live in a third world country such as the UK, I urge you to own gold or silver. The pound will be further devalued, as will the euro and dollar. The bullion dealer I use and recommend is The Pure Gold Company. They deliver to the UK, the US, Canada and Europe. Solar and wind power is growing worldwide, but so is electricity consumption: as a result, renewables are often only added to the energy mix, rather than replacing fossil fuels. Reducing energy demand would make net zero more achievable, but it recieves far less attention than decarbonisation efforts. This may be due to a perception that managing energy demand would be politically unpopular, requiring governments to make radical interventions into people's lifestyles and spending. Oliver Broad, Senior Research Fellow at University College London, tells Alasdair that such fears are unfounded. His team's research found that the UK could reduce energy demand by 52% without new tech or overly disruptive societal change, and has worked with policymakers and public focus groups to demonstrate political acceptability. Further reading: 'Policymakers and academics envision energy demand reductions beyond typical policies in the United Kingdom', Nature Energy, 2025'Policymaker-led scenarios and public dialogue facilitate energy demand analysis for net-zero futures', Nature Energy, 2025'Energy demand reduction options for meeting national zero-emission targets in the United Kingdom', Nature Energy, 2022'Real people or "economic processing units"? Geoengineering research is growing, as scientists look for increasingly radical means to protect humanity from the disastrous impacts of global heating.Less publicly, concerns are also building about the use of these techniques for geopolitical disruption or control. Technologies such as solar radiation management (SRM) and stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) are controversial amongst climate scientists: they could buy us time through a temporary cooling effect, but they would not actually stop global heating, and could cause other negative impacts.Danielle Young tells Alasdair that scientific research on these technologies often lacks alignment with political realities. While scientists plan for multilateral governance regimes to protect global populations from heat, government and military officials are more likely to think about SRM or SAI in terms of weaponisation and international power struggles. Dr Danielle Young is an Assistant Professor in Politics and International Studies at The University of Leeds. Her research focuses on the geopolitical and security implications of emerging solar geoengineering technologies. If you've ever wondered why some investors swear by UK commercial property investment while others stick to shares, pensions and buy-to-let, we lay out the real mechanics: what your return is made of, how leases shape risk, and when property genuinely earns its place in a portfolio. We get specific about rental yield versus capital appreciation, and why commercial property can look steadier than equities day to day even though it is not as liquid. Alasdair explains how borrowing can boost return on equity when the deal stacks up, and we pressure-test the assumptions so you can think in net cashflow terms rather than headlines. We also tackle the residential versus commercial debate, including why repairs and ongoing costs can quietly crush buy-to-let returns, and why full repairing and insuring (FRI) leases often shift responsibility back to the tenant in the commercial world. Then we zoom out to what's hot for 2026 and beyond: how risk appetite changes the yield you should expect, why “retail is dead” is an oversimplification, and what has driven industrial property's standout performance since 2020. We also touch on the office market's post-Covid reset and what quality and demand look like now.———————————————————————Disclaimer: All content on this channel is for education purposes only and does not constitute an investment recommendation or individual financial advice. What's it like to survive Stage 4 abdominal cancer? The Dorx interviewed Alasdair over a year ago, shortly after he learned he was an immunotherapy “miracle patient.” But we never released that episode, partly because Nina cried about her own problems. Here Nina and Alasdair attempt to re-create April 2025 (not May, as Nina incorrectly asserts) and cover most of the same topics: emergency surgery, chemotherapy, heart failure, asking Dr Google, the woman across the infusion table, tuning out of genderworld, and robot litter boxes. All with less drama and more propriety! But is that a good thing? Should Nina release the spiked episode, which she has since listened to, despite Alasdair's protestations? Host Ricky Sacks and Co-Host Billie T are joined by Tottenham Hotspur Correspondent Alasdair Gold, as we look back at the past 10 months since Alasdair was last on the show with us. Before the opening game of the season, Thomas Frank declared he wanted Spurs to be competitive in multiple competitions. By the final day, It was Roberto De Zerbi who saved Tottenham Hotspur from total humiliation. This was a season when years of mismanagement and drift caught up with Spurs. It was a disaster and the club must ensure it does not happen again. Daniel Levy was removed from his position as chairman after nearly 25 years in charge. Frank was spotted drinking from a coffee cup that had Arsenal's badge on it. Frank ended up being sacked the following month and replaced by Igor Tudor, who lasted only 44 days before Roberto De Zerbi took over. Spurs only won three games at home and suffered 17 defeats in total. At times it felt like the drama was never-ending. On this show with Alasdair we break-down the campaign just gone and what led us to Roberto De Zerbi completing the most unlikeliest of final-day great escapes.
