In this week's Live from the Vault, Andrew Maguire is joined by Alasdair Macleod to reveal how silver is quietly moved through private channels - largely controlled by China - keeping real supply and demand hidden from the open market. As silver approaches a critical price point, two old friends explain how major market players may soon lose their grip, opening the door for a sharp rise in silver and a fresh wave of interest in precious metals, unwinding decades of price control.Check out Alasdair: https://alasdairmacleod.substack.com/_______________________________________________________________Timestamps: 00:00 Start02:20 Andrew introduces Alasdair Macleod03:55 Silver breaks out as warehouse stocks reach critical lows10:55 EFP values distorted; China continues strategic silver stockpiling18:50 Major Asian buyers quietly acquiring precious metals by the billion27:25 Echoes of the 1970s: Historic parallels in gold accumulation32:25 BRICS currency risks and the rise of an East Asian supergroup37:05 What the whales and central banks are really doing behind the scenes43:30 How central bank leasing and double-counting threaten a crisis47:15 The Fed's covert borrowing of gold from the BIS51:40 Alasdair's journey: Decades of decoding precious metals market behaviour_______________________________________________________________Ask your questions for Andy here: https://forum.kinesis.money/forums/qu... Alasdair Macleod believes the largest credit bubble in history may have reached its breaking point, as Trump's tariff barrage sends markets plummeting. Nearly half of the global agriculture market is controlled by four companies. This level of concentration - driven by decades of mergers and poor regulation - has allowed agribusiness “titans” to dominate the farming sector. Alasdair talks to Dr Jennifer Clapp, author of a new book about corporate domination of the farm sector and why it matters. Alasdair and Jennifer discuss how and why mass-merging has led to market distortions and high prices, and what solutions could improve the state of the sector. Dr. Jennifer Clapp is a Professor at the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability at the University of Waterloo, Canada. She is a member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub. Okay, hear me out. First off, this was re-recorded a couple weeks ago because i'm extremely good at backing up audio files from 2 years ago entirely in line with the professionalism this podcast is known for. Secondly, there's some audio issues in this that I can't get rid of, no matter how much I try (remember when I said this was recorded 2 weeks ago?), sorry about that. Point III: This isn't this weeks normal episode, that's still to come, and the rest of these will be additional free episodes just like originally promised. Fourthly, we used my near 2 year old notes for this and if i'm being entirely honest I reckon it shows, but for the next one (yes, we're actually doing all of these and finishing it) I've got a revamped set of notes ready so it should be a bit slicker. Anyway, enjoy the much awaited sequel to the running joke that you lot have been haunting me with for far too long. Tom welcomes back Alasdair Macleod, Head of Research at GoldMoney to discuss his insights into the silver market and its relationship with gold prices. He suggests that despite a seemingly undersupplied market, the price disparity between gold and silver does not reflect this reality. Macleod anticipates a significant shift in investor behavior once patience runs thin among those who have already bought into gold but yet to enter the silver market. The role of foreign investors, particularly central banks, in driving gold prices is highlighted. Macleod also emphasizes the importance of understanding the impact of the ongoing credit bubble on financial markets and encourages listeners to consider reducing their exposure to credit. Alasdair expresses his views on Donald Trump's impact on gold prices, citing increased foreign demand due to Trump's status as an inflationist and his executive orders. However, concerns over tariffs and potential economic repercussions remain. Macleod also touches upon historical examples of tariffs and interest rates and their relationship with an economy's purchasing power. He emphasizes the importance of understanding this connection for investors during the upcoming credit bubble. Throughout the conversation, Alasdair highlights the importance of considering global economic trends and various factors influencing gold and silver prices. He also discusses the role of speculators versus central banks in driving these markets and the potential for a significant shift once investor sentiment changes. Alasdair Gill has a passion for cooking and an abundance of creativity. However, years of working in hospitality and drinking heavily left him facing a difficult decision—one he took reluctantly, despite a dire prognosis. His advice is valuable for everyone, no matter where you are in your relationship with alcohol.Welcome to the next round, where I talk to people who have inspired me—not just with the changes they've made to their drinking habits, but with what they've gone on to achieve next. From reigniting old passions with renewed vigour to making bold life and career changes, there's no template. What you do next is entirely up to you!Alasdair Gill is now a private chef. Since rehab, he has rediscovered the skills and passion for cheffing that he developed early in his career, building a new way of working that aligns with who he is today. His story is a powerful reminder that the things you loved before life fell apart can still be part of your future.Alasdair Gill's journey from battling addiction to becoming a successful private chef is a powerful testament to resilience and reinvention. His story highlights the challenges of working in hospitality while struggling with alcohol and drug dependency and how recovery transformed not only his outlook on life but also his career. The Beginning of the Journey: Struggles in HospitalityFor Alasdair, the hospitality industry was both a lifeline and a trap. He describes the kitchens and bars he worked in as a “pressure cooker,” a space that both attracted and enabled his struggles with alcohol.“Hospitality is accepting of what you are—it will take us in.”While kitchens initially provided a way to earn money, Alasdair admits they didn't spark joy or passion.“For a long time, it was just about making money. There wasn't much love there,” The Turning Point: RecoveryThe tipping point came when Alasdair faced severe health issues, including cirrhosis of the liver, and was told he wouldn't survive to see Christmas. Even then, his decision to enter rehab was reluctant.“I didn't want to live, but I didn't want to die either. I was in between—a numbness of fine.”Rehab became the space where Alasdair could pause, reflect, and start to piece his life back together.“It gave me a sober mind for the first time since I was 15. Suddenly, I started questioning whether what I'd been doing was normal.”Finding Purpose Through CookingPost-recovery, Alasdair returned to the one industry where he had experience -hospitality. But this time, he approached it differently. James tells Alasdair the spooky story of a poltergeist in Dorset*. All your polterguy classics are in play here: scratching sounds, flying objects and a young girl with a talent for throwing things while no one is looking. Prepare yourself for strange happenings in a Durweston semi, witnessed by a gamekeeper whose perception of time and space is all slantwise. Let's be honest, this episode gets a little bit silly. Especially towards the end when A-List celebrity Keanu Reeves makes a guest appearance. *Of course he would, etc. This episode was edited by Joseph Burrows - Audio Editor. LoreBoys nether say die!
