Compass, episode 11Our previous episode: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/gold-shines-amid-tariff-tensions-6961Recording date: 17th April 2025Gold and gold mining stocks have emerged as standout performers in today's challenging market environment, according to industry experts Samuel Pelaez and Derek Macpherson of Olive Resource Capital. While traditional safe havens like bonds weaken and equities struggle, gold miners have posted impressive gains of 20-80% from recent lows."Everything that has happened right — you've got equities that are weak... bonds that are weak... and the dollar is weak," Macpherson noted, explaining the unusual market conditions driving investors toward gold as a reliable store of value. The experts identified a predictable pattern currently unfolding in the gold market. Historically, investment capital flows sequentially from physical gold to large-cap producers, then to mid-tier producers, development-stage companies, and eventually exploration firms. This pattern, evident in previous gold cycles (2001-2005 and 2009-2011), appears to be repeating, with large-cap producers already seeing substantial gains.A significant change in market structure could accelerate this trend. The consolidation of mid-tier producers has created a gap in the industry, potentially allowing capital to flow more directly from major producers to development-stage companies. Resource funds that have profited from large-cap positions are now seeking diversification in smaller companies, as evidenced by VanEck's recent position in Troilus Gold. The next 60 days represent an opportune "sweet spot" for junior mining companies to raise capital. "They've outperformed over the last six weeks... but there's still a sweet spot where you can raise significant amount of money, set them up for the next 12-24 months, and still lots of upside left for the new incoming investors," Pelaez explained. For exploration companies that have spent years conducting low-cost groundwork like surface sampling and geophysics, this financing window enables advancement to drilling their most promising targets. When properly deployed, this capital can create value that outweighs dilution concerns.Despite recent gains, both experts emphasized that the gold market cycle has considerable room to run. "This is a very exciting time... Don't blink, don't miss it... the next couple months are going to be tremendously important for this market," Pelaez stated. For investors, the message is clear: gold appears well-positioned in the current environment of economic uncertainty, with continued momentum expected until greater clarity emerges about the broader economy.Sign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

She cherishes her MacPherson memories and reflects on her rough start to politics. Synopsis: The Usual Place host Natasha Ann Zachariah hunts for new perspectives on issues that matter to young people. In the lead-up to the expected general election that must be held by November 2025, Natasha looks at how MPs, and others involved, are preparing themselves. MacPherson MP Tin Pei Ling was PAP’s youngest candidate at 27 years old during the 2011 General Election when she was put in the spotlight – remember the Kate Spade bag episode? – it’s never quite left her. Since then, she has had, arguably, one of the most closely watched political journeys among MPs. From her pregnancies to career moves, she has drawn much public and media attention. In this episode, Ms Tin, 41, tells Natasha about how she deals with hate comments, her perceived job-hopping in the past few years, and why she hopes to be the MP for her current ward for a long time to come. And given the current geopolitical climate, she makes a case to young voters why her party would be the best choice now. Tolu Minerals Ltd CEO Iain Macpherson talked with Proactive about the company's initial gold production at the Tolukuma Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea. While not commercial output yet, Macpherson explained that gold from commissioning demonstrates proof of concept and marks the start of larger-scale activity. The company is leveraging existing infrastructure valued at around AU$500 million, with a strategy focused on addressing previous cost pressures that led to mine closure. “The mine shut down, not because the resource ran out... but because they were faced with severe cost pressures,” Macpherson said, citing diesel dependence and lack of road access. Macpherson highlighted Tolu's capital program and extensive exploration footprint across the broader Tolukuma structure. He detailed the utility of airborne magnetotelluric (MT) surveys, which provide deep, three-dimensional geophysical data. “It gives you a very good three-dimensional picture... and enhances target generation,” he said, noting this method's success in similar geologies globally. The company also discussed its Mt Penck project on New Britain Island, revealing the identification of eight new porphyry targets based on the MT survey. He wants to save liberal theory and liberal democracies from themselves, but is there a viable way forward? You know what we think: it's socialism or barbarism, baby! Multivitamin and multimineral supplements have long been a topic of both scientific inquiry and public debate. While they are often marketed as convenient solutions for achieving nutritional adequacy, their true value remains contentious. Are these supplements essential insurance policies against nutrient deficiencies, or are they merely expensive placebos? Importantly, how should we weigh their potential benefits against the lack of robust evidence for long-term health outcomes such as reduced mortality or chronic disease risk? These questions demand a nuanced exploration, grounded in the context of specific populations and individual needs. Ultimately, the role of multivitamin supplements cannot be assessed in isolation but must be viewed through the lens of context and specificity. How do we balance the biological plausibility of benefits against the variability of individual diets, the presence of fortification policies, and the challenges of achieving dietary adequacy in certain life stages? These considerations invite a more thoughtful and less binary discussion about whether, when, and for whom multivitamins are a worthwhile addition to the diet. I have never been a big spirits fan but it was impossible not to appreciate the level of craftsmanship in this impressive whisky. A great conversation about a world that is admittedly a blind spot for me.

Hello to my beloved Discover Indie Film Community. When we had scheduled last week's episodes, we had know idea what tragedy and horrors Los Angeles was about to endure. If you are in LA, I truly hope you are safe and taking care of yourself. And if you're listening I'm guessing you're like me, and connecting with art is a comfort and inspiration in difficult times. I hope this following interview offers that. Writer-Director Jake Macpherson brought his feature length horror film “Terror Firma” to Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2024 and the film brought home awards for Best Performer in a Lead Role – Horror, for Faye Tamasa and Best Performer in a Supporting Role – Horror for Burt Thakur. This impressive, innovative film was one of my favorites; I love an indie film that focuses on great ideas and innovative visuals. This film looks great, probably because Jake is as talented as cinematographeras he is a writer and director. Add those skills to a tight story and great performances and you've got a winner. I highly recommend that you watch Terror Firma. And if you're one of those, “I'm not a big horror fan,” people then you should know that this film is much more arthouse than horror. With Myka still mad at Artie for what happened with MacPherson, she and Pete are ordered to help with the inventory. It leads to a suspicious mirror and a haunted Studio 54 disco ball. But after Myka stares too deeply into the mirror, she is called away to Las Vegas to handle a couple with surprisingly good luck. Will the artifact in their possession prove useful to the entity that escaped the mirror inside Myka? Will Artie accept that Myka is, in fact, stuck in the mirror? Erik and Justin immediately award star Saul Rubinek MVP status. Justin also can't help but compare the series to The Librarians. Erik recalls the Sci-Fi Network as it was when Warehouse 13 was first produced. While in the weeds, they discuss Wolverine, season 12 Simpsons, CCH Pounder's ability to sell absurd dialogue, The Gifted, and Batman rogues Rubinek could play. Constant re-casting suggestions occur for the Warehouse 13 cast. Despite only appearing in a recap, Roger Rees gets some praise. Justin pitches a story around the disco ball and the comparisons to The X-Files and Fringe become inevitable.
