Vervolgens vertelt documentaire fotograaf en samensteller van het boek “Gezeik in Amsterdam” Renzo Gerritsen tijdens een wandeling over de Wallen over de geschiedenis en het verdwijnen van Amsterdamse plaskrullen uit het straatbeeld.

Both countries are neighbours of Germany, where Electronic Music took off in the early 1970s. It was therefore inevitable that many local progressive artists became fascinated by synthesizers and inspired by this new genre known as "Kosmische Musik" (cosmic music). Influence of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze is obvious, but there's also a hint at prog rock and a few tracks come close to melodic synth pop similar to Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre." My guest today is Arran Johnston, Arran works with the Scottish Battlefield Trust and the Battle of Prestonpans Museum increasing awareness of the History of conflicts in the Highlands, Lowlands and Isles. A specialist in the Jacobite Rising Arran has had a number of books published on that subject as well as Cromwells earlier campaigns in Scotland. Hoe kom je over je eigen schaamte en verlegenheid heen op het podium? Wat is de kracht van je show benaderen als DJ-set? En hoe zou je als indie-band na moeten denken over ‘poespas' die je live om de muziek heen bouwt?Dit is alweer de laatste aflevering van het derde seizoen van The Live Coaches: van idee tot herinnering. My sister, Almudena, visited me in Charleston for a few weeks over Christmas. She had been here a few years ago during a hot July and absolutely hated Charleston. The heat, the humidity, and the fact that I had recently moved here and didn't know any local spots to while away the scorching summer days did not make for a successful visit. This time was different! It was so much fun to experience my town through my sister's eyes. Winters in South Carolina are heavenly. Crisp days, cool evenings, bright sunshine, and many things to do. Clearly, my group of friends has grown, and so have the activities we were invited to join. Private parties are always the best way to meet my friends, and we were feted nonstop. From plantation visits to tailgates and country pursuits, we did it all. And we still had time to explore the town and hit the local hangouts. Here are the highlights of those days: RestaurantsFrom high-end to honky tonk places, Charleston's food scene doesn't disappoint. My sister wanted oysters and local fare. A wonderful selection of very wearable dresses and blouses. * Peyton Williams. Practical and great-looking semi-precious hand-made jewelry perfect for every day and for traveling. * Julep. Clearly, my group of friends has grown, and so have the activities we were invited to join. Private parties are always the best way to meet my friends, and we were feted nonstop. From plantation visits to tailgates and country pursuits, we did it all. And we still had time to explore the town and hit the local hangouts. The tiny Holyrood Distillery in Edinburgh shocked the whisky world when it was named Distillery of the Year last week in Whisky Magazine's Scottish Icons of Whisky Awards. Less shocking was Holyrood's Embra single malt, which took top honors for Lowlands no-age-statement single malts in the World Whiskies Awards. Elmer is een anagram en het alter ego van de Amsterdamse rapper Merel Pauw. Elmer begon haar muziekcarrière in 2021 met de single "Je vader". Jelle Paulusma, zanger en gitarist van de iconische alternatieve-rock band Daryll-Ann, viert een comeback met het nieuwe album ‘Spring'. Na een pauze van twintig jaar brengt de band, waarin hij samen met Anne Soldaat de muziek en teksten schrijft, opnieuw muziek uit. Het album, dat op 13 september verschijnt, belooft dezelfde unieke chemie die hen in de jaren '90 tot een van de meest geliefde bands maakte. During the late Spanish colonial period, the Pacific Lowlands, also called the Greater Chocó, was famed for its rich placer deposits. Gold mined here was central to New Granada's economy yet this Pacific frontier in today's Colombia was considered the “periphery of the periphery.” Infamous for its fierce, unconquered Indigenous inhabitants and its brutal tropical climate, it was rarely visited by Spanish administrators, engineers, or topographers and seldom appeared in detail on printed maps of the period. In The History of a Periphery: Spanish Colonial Cartography from Colombia's Pacific Lowlands (U Texas Press, 2024), Juliet Wiersema uncovers little-known manuscript cartography and makes visible an unexamined corner of the Spanish empire. In concert with thousands of archival documents from Colombia, Spain, and the United States, she reveals how a "periphery" was imagined and projected, largely for political or economic reasons. Along the way, she unearths untold narratives about ephemeral settlements, African adaptation and autonomy, Indigenous strategies of resistance, and tenuous colonialisms on the margins of a beleaguered viceroyalty. During the late Spanish colonial period, the Pacific Lowlands, also called the Greater Chocó, was famed for its rich placer deposits. Gold mined here was central to New Granada's economy yet this Pacific frontier in today's Colombia was considered the “periphery of the periphery.” Infamous for its fierce, unconquered Indigenous inhabitants and its brutal tropical climate, it was rarely visited by Spanish administrators, engineers, or topographers and seldom appeared in detail on printed maps of the period. Today, the Spotlight shines On saxophonist/composer Kevin Sun.Kevin joined us to discuss, among other things, his dramatic double album from 2023, The Depths of Memory, which was released in two halves: From All This Stillness in July of that year and The Depths in Slow Motion in October of that year.Kevin's an intense yet accessible player and composer—and a true working musician. He leads an ensemble most Tuesday nights at Lowlands Bar and appears regularly at Bar Bayeux and Ornithology, all three in Brooklyn, NY.In the time since we recorded this talk back in January, Kevin has released a new record, a live one, recorded at Lowlands. Fate of the Tenor has him leading a trio which, to my ears, gives more than a passing nod to Joe Henderson's great 1985 live trio recordings with Ron Carter and Al Foster, State of the Tenor. Even the cover art seems a bit of an homage.
