Plus a 'Spend my Money' with an unusually broad scope

The Interesting Health & Safety Podcast

In this special 150th edition of The Interesting Health And Safety Podcast, Colin takes time to reflect upon the incredible highlights of the last six months. As Colin discusses, even though the world has been turned upside down, there have still been moments of opportunity, and valuable lessons learned from connections made.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes health and safety is a case of marketing. Perfecting the message is one thing, but marketing it effectively can help it spread. Willpower solidifies the mindset we need in order to make positive, lasting impact. We may not always succeed on the first attempt, but we must endeavour. As professionals we are always learning. The best way of learning is to talk, and especially with the people in the sharp end of the business, those who recognise the real safety needs. BEST MOMENTS 'We need to continually push new ways, new boundaries, and engage with people' 'Keep on the ball. Keep on pushing for what is right' 'Spend more time out in the workplace talking to the people who are doing the job'  VALUABLE RESOURCES The Interesting Health & Safety Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/vn/podcast/the-interesting-health-safety-podcast/id1467771449    ABOUT THE HOST Colin Nottage ‘Making health and safety as important as everything else we do.' Lots of hotels are trying to tempt locals to come in for a short staycation. Come and stay a night at the hotel and get a discount on the restaurant and spa and any other outlets that are open. But I think they're getting the messaging the wrong way around. Instead, the offer should be, 'Spend $250 in our restaurant and we'll give you a free night in the hotel.' We all need to eat. That's the Need. Staying in the hotel room is just a Want. So sell the Need first, then promote the Want as the add-on. #hotels #marketing #promotions

Saint of the Day
Our Venerable Father Sabbatius, Founder of the Monastery of Solovki (1435)

He lived for many years as a monk at the Monastery of St Cyril of White Lake, where his ascetic struggles won him the respect of his brethren. To flee from the admiration of men he moved further north to Valaam Monastery. But he still attracted the good opinion of his community, so he secretly headed still further north, planning to reach the uninhabited Solovki Island in the White Sea (a large bay of the Arctic Ocean). When he reached the coast, everyone who might take him tried to dissuade him from living in such a harsh place. He answered 'My children, I have a Master who has the power to renew the strength of the old and to enfeeble the young if He so wills. He makes the poor rich, clothes the naked, provides for the destitute and satisfies the starving with a measure of food as he fed five thousand men in the desert.'   While waiting for seasonable sailing weather he met St Germanus (July 30) who lived nearby as a hermit. Together they found a fishing boat and, casting all their trust on the Lord, made the dangerous two-day voyage and set up a hermitage on the island. It became known as a holy place, and thenceforth those living in the world knew not to settle on Solovki, or even to set foot there without good reason. After six years, St Germanus departed, and Sabbatius was left alone.   When he was old, he began to fear that he would die without receiving the life-giving Mysteries, of which he had not partaken since he left Valaam. So he returned to the mainland where he met an abbot Nathanael just as he was taking Holy Communion to a sick man. Sabbatius persuaded the abbot to hear his confession and grant him the priceless gift of Holy Communion. He then settled in a nearby chapel and made ready for his departure from this life. A wealthy merchant from Novgorod visited him to ask for his blessing. The Saint said to him, 'Spend the night here and you will see the grace of God.' The next morning the merchant came to Sabbatius' cell and found that he had reposed during the night; his cell was suffused with a beautiful scent.   The following year, St Germanus, along with St Zosimas (April 17), returned to Solovki island and founded a monastery there, which proved to be the nurturing ground of many Saints.

Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 87 (08/06/2019) Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection." The narrators of this Hadith said: Allah said (to man), 'Spend (in charity), for then I will compensate you (generously).' " Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said that Gabriel said, "Here is Khadija coming to you with a dish of food or a tumbler containing something to drink. Convey to her a greeting from her Lord (Allah) and give her the glad tidings that she will have a palace in Paradise built of Qasab wherein there will be neither any noise nor any fatigue (trouble)." (See Hadith No. 168, Vol. 5) Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah said, "I have prepared for My righteous slaves (such excellent things) as no eye has ever seen, nor an ear has ever heard nor a human heart can ever think of.' " Narrated Ibn Abbas: Whenever the Prophet offered the night (Tahajjud) prayer, he used to say, "O Allah! All the Praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. And all the Praises are for You; You are the Keeper of the Heavens and the Earth. All the Praises are for You; You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and whatever is therein. You are the Truth, and Your Promise is the Truth, and Your Speech is the Truth, and meeting You is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth and Hell (Fire) is the Truth and all the prophets are the Truth and the Hour is the Truth. O Allah! I surrender to You, and believe in You, and depend upon You, and repent to You, and in Your cause I fight and with Your orders I rule. So please forgive my past and future sins and those sins which I did in secret or in public. It is You Whom I worship, None has the right to be worshipped except You ." (See Hadith No. 329,Vol. 8) Narrated 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair: Sa'id bin Al-Musaiyab, 'Alqama bin Waqqas and 'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah regarding the narrating of the forged statement against 'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, when the slanderers said what they said and Allah revealed her innocence. 'Aisha said, "But by Allah, I did not think that Allah, (to confirm my innocence), would reveal Divine Inspiration which would be recited, for I consider myself too unimportant to be talked about by Allah through Divine Inspiration revealed for recitation, but I hoped that Allah's Apostle might have a dream in which Allah would reveal my innocence. So Allah revealed:-- 'Verily! Those who spread the slander are a gang among you...' (The ten Verses in Surat-an-Nur) (24.11-20) Today we covered: • The speech of Allaah • Allah says,” O son of Aadam spend and I will spend upon you.” • The obligatory and the sunnah charity • The hadith of Khadija receiving the glad tidings of paradise • The fruits in paradise • Nothing in this world is in Paradise except the names • The du’aa the Prophet used to recite during the night prayer • Allaahs descension during the last third of the night • The importance of having humility • Q&A session Benefit: To gain further understanding when we discuss the chains, follow our “Bayqooniyyah in the Sciences of Hadith” lessons on LearnAboutIslam: http://www.learnaboutislam.co.uk/2016/01/18/al-Ma’iyahndhoMa’iyahh-al-bayqooniyah/ The English translation of the hadiths and all the audio are available on: www.learnaboutislam.co.uk/bukhari Recorded at the Salafi Centre of Manchester on 08/06/2019 and streamed live on www.SunnahRadio.Net
